Sandy good for you for taking that 3rd day off. Hoping that 3 days will help you get rested up to go at it again.

I reported for jury duty early this morning and I didn't get chosen to sit on one and was released just before noon. I did get 2 magazine read and started on a reader's digest!! Not totally unproductive.

My wrist is still aching so I continue to wear the wrist band. Hoping it will be better in a couple more days.

It was a much cooler day here today. We had overcast skies all day and we were in the low 70's. Boy, what a day makes. Form Mid 90's yesterday to low 70's today.

Well, it is back to work tomorrow. They did called me and wanted me to work today but, I said I had plans for the day. To have 3 days off in a row doesn't happen very often. So, when I get one I really enjoy it and rest.

Gail - your book sounds really good. I love crime Novels and mysteries. Guess that comes from having my Grandfather being a Police Officer and my Uncle being in the FBI.

Pat - Hope the 3 of you are staying cool. Take care of your wrist. I hope it feels better soon.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Gail you brought back fond memories of potato pancakes-my family used to take leftover mashed potatoes and make potato pancakes out of them and occasionally my mom would make mashed potato salad if she had a lot. As we had a garden and grew our own potatoes, they were plentiful and mom was always looking for different ways to serve them. I truly believe people used to be healthier as they grew most of their own food (at least if you lived out of town you did!)

Our hot weather has returned and we are so far getting no rain from Invest #99. Not sure if we are going to get any or not. The weatherman keeps changing his prediction every time we listen to the news.

I hurt my left wrist yesterday and have no idea how. I am wearing the wrist support band that DH had when he badly sprained his and hoping that will help me get it better. I am right handed but it is amazing how much one uses their other hand.

I can't believe all the natural disasters that have been in the news over the last month. Unrelenting wild fires in the west, flooding in the south, tornadoes in the heartland and, most recently, the horrible earthquake in Italy. My heart goes out to all the victims.

I've had this craving for potato pancakes and yesterday I made a batch for lunch. Fruit and coffee for breakfast, pancakes with sour cream and apple sauce for lunch, and a tomato and cucumber salad for dinner. Got to do better today.

Raining here to.

Enjoy your weekend,

Gail

My son was telling me how hot it was near Portland and he was out servicing equipment and very close to one of the fires. Glad I didn't know at the time-you know how momma's worry!

Has been a great day-slept late and didn't do a thing!! Hubby took me out to dinner tonight. Great birthday.

Nan: Where are you? I miss you.

Pat: Stay safe. I hear you may be having a storm this weekend.

Sandy: I'm so glad you have three days off. REST. I continue to read the Inspector Montalbano series. The last one I read was a stitch. I was laughing all the way to the toilet!

Nothing much planned for the weekend, but tomorrow I'm having my nails done. My treat to myself.

Well Pat, I am not going to complain about our 95 degree weather here. We have been having a heat wave here this week. But, tomorrow it goes down to 76. So that is good news. Hope it gets better for you.

Gail - What book are you reading now?

I am off for 3 wonderful days and I am not doing anything but relaxing and putting up my Halloween décor. Work is going great just been working a lot this past week. Schedule next week is a little better no night again next week. It's the nights that kill be.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Stay cool. emoticon

We are having record heat --- the heat index was 110 today! I have been getting up very early to work in the park gardens and have to be inside before 10 with the awful heat.
I have started working on cleaning out the closets, my file cabinet and the dressers! This is going to take a few days but it is necessary!!

I think we have finished our rounds of dr visits for now. DH has to have another test in 4 wks. His levels for his thyroid were over the top. Hoping the additional medication and stopping the iron and calcium at night will get things back in line.
My triglycerides dropped from 270 to 120 so dr was happy with that BUT my cholesterol went from 160 to 211 so now have to work on that. Always something we need to improve on. I hope when it cools down and I can walk regularly that will help things.
We are sweltering again and I hate to be outside. Seems it is hot everywhere.

Wow! It's really been quiet here. I'm just miss congeniality this week. Had dinner with a friend on Monday, made lunch for a friend on Wednesday, and will be making lunch for a friend today. Three times in one week I'm socializing. I think that's more than I did all last month. The friend who visited Wednesday has a garden and he brought me a batch of cakes and tomatoes. Yum.

Hope you are all weathering this weather. I've hardly used my screened porch this summer because of the humidity. Perhaps the late summer early fall with be better. I never recall a summer so humid in the 53 years I've been living here. Who says there's no climate change?

Enjoy the weekend and stay well everyone.

DH helped me pull the refrigerator out and I got it cleaned under there. Then I cleaned off the top-amazing how the dust collects up there!!
Vickie & I worked on the budget this afternoon and I will get it all typed up and sent to our chairwoman and she can decide how she feels about it all. We try to have a lot of the work done before the budget preparation in Sept. That is when we tweak things even more.

My hours seem to be up and down. So far. This week I have 2 early morning shifts and 2 closing shifts. I closed last night. It was much easier than being downstairs. So, we will see how it goes.

Weather here has been really warm week and last. Summer has hit here. It had been really nice. Now it is in the high 80's.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Sandy I hope you enjoy the new position. Will you get better hours with the change? Rest up on your day off.

It has been a hot and sticky weekend so I have been working on cleaning inside. Does anyone else wonder "why did I keep that?" on things? I worked on a section of my hutch that becomes a catch all and pitched a lot of "stuff" that I have no idea why I kept it. I still have phone boxes, etc that I need to pitch. I will start a folder to keep their paperwork in and that will clean out quite a bit of room in there!!
We went to a pizza place called Pizza Amore for lunch today. They have several gluten free menu offerings so DH was able to enjoy pizza for the 1st time in 8 mo! I tried a bite and it really was tasty-won't be going often but nice to know when we do crave pizza he can get it. I settled for a flatbread and it too was tasty. We both had enough left that we had that for our supper They also offer GF pasta items so we do have other options if we go back.

Had lunch with my Aunt yesterday after I got off work. Worked today from 6am to 10am. I work tomorrow evening and then off. Start my new position tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

Gail - I agree with you. Once I start to feel uncomfortable about driving I won't. My Mother did that.

Pat - Glad to hear that Bill had a good Dr's check up. Sorry to hear about the family. That is terrible.

Nan - Hope you had a wonderful time with your Friends.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

I agree with you Gail. DH hasn't driven since 2003 when he lost sight in the 1 eye. Dr says he can but he doesn't feel it would be safe as his depth perception is off a lot. Some people feel they can only get around by driving but we have bus service for seniors and disabled locally so they have options.
We are going to try Trivia (with the same guy doing the questioning) at a different restaurant tonight. We haven't gone the past couple of weeks as the one we were going to has lousy a/c and no fun sitting there sweating.
Tomorrow DH has a dr's appt. at 10 and then I have one at 12 about 45 min south so hoping he doesn't get behind as we have to leave around 11!

I have very strong feelings about elderly people who drive with diminished capacities (vision, hearing, reflexes, attention). I'm 75, see and hear well, never drink and drive and have very good reflexes. Also, I pay attention and drive defensively. BUT...the minute I feel I'm not 100% I'm turning in my license. My dad had heart failure at the wheel and hit the car in front of him. Nobody was injured thank heavens. Still, as soon as he got out of the hospital he turned in his license and never drove again. It was inconvenient, but he wasn't going to risk the lives of others for his convenience.

Ran errands this morning. On the way home an ambulance passed us and then we heard helicopters over our house and sirens kept on screaming so we went up to check out what was happening. There was a terrible accident just down the street from us. An elderly lady hit an SUV with 2 adults and 6 children in it. They airlifted 3 of the children to Orlando and took others to our local hospital but sadly one 2 year old was ejected and killed. The 6 lane road in front of our community was pretty much shut down for hours.
Our little Abby went home this afternoon and Big Abbie is very happy.
Another cooler day-we did hit 88 for a very short time but rain off and on kept it in the mid to lower 80's most of the day.

Took DH to 2 dr. appts. today and got good reports at the pulmonary doc--his numbers have improved enough to bring him into the high normal range - thanks for finally getting him that new bi-pap machine doc! Then his appt. at the cardiologist went good also. He is good for another 6 mo!
Amazing how much time this took out of our day. One dr was 2 hours late-had an emergency.

WTG Sandy!!! Super shopping. Hope that an easier week is a bonus for you and you get some rest.

We were blessed with a beautiful day. High of 84 today, some rain off and on. We ate lunch outside on the patio of the restaurant after church. We don't get days like this usually in Aug.

Hope everyone is having good weekend. We are having cooler temps here and it is feeling like Fall. I have a little easier schedule this week which is great. We just had a huge mark downs in the store and I took advantage of it. I got 5 tops for $45.00 but, I had 15 % off plus $ 20.00 in Kohl's cash, $40 in Rewards and then my Employee discount. I walked out paying $ 0. Today was nice and cool. I only worked a 4 hr shift.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Val I do hope you are having an awesome day with your friends. I think going with a group is always more fun and it sounds like you really enjoy their company. Sorry to hear your MS is acting up. I wonder if the weather affects it at all. I believe the weather can trigger my PMR at times-I have had small twinges lately but not a full blown flare for which I am thankful.

Gail it sounds like you do live in a great community and how awesome to come home with all those veggies. I go to the Saturday market to get mine most of the time and in the winter there is a farmer's market somewhere near us practically every day of the week.

It has cooled off here-still a bit humid-but high of 88 today. I got out and worked in the gardens again for a couple of hours. So much to do and we definitely need help so that is going to be a big discussion with our president when he returns from vacation.

Our Abbie is not a happy camper right now-we have Little Abby for a few days and our Abbie much prefers being an only child. They get along fine-we just are being "punished" by her turning her back on us and not being her usual loving self. It is sort of funny. This morning I gave each of them 1/4 of a can of Little Ceasar dog food and of course they wanted each other's plate! We couldn't allow that as I put BA's medicine in her wet food but we couldn't give her that without some for LA. We finally got them to eat from the right plates!

Here in Madison we have a great community. I've spoken before about the TimeBank, well, we also have Madison Stuff Exchange. You can post something you are looking for or offering. You may buy, sell, or give/get something for free. I just came home with a cauliflower, several cucumbers, a pepper, and several pounds of yellow tomatoes. I'll be making Greek cucumber yogurt sauce, tomato soup and yellow tomato sauce. Unbelievable the generosity of this community.

Hi everyone. Just thought I'd check in and tell you about the weekend I have planned with my friends. We're going to drive to Taos to see a concert tomorrow. It's not a group I'm familiar with but I've watched a few videos online and I really like them. They're called Alabama Shakes. So tomorrow I'll be getting together with my friend Caroline, her partner Dani, and our friend Yvette and driving to Santa Fe for lunch, and then on to Taos for the concert. We'll stay in a hotel overnight and go see the Taos gorge on Sunday, and then drive back to Albuquerque on Sunday afternoon. I think we're going to have a lot of fun. emoticon

There are only two possible problems on our radar screen, and I don't think they're going to keep us from having a really good time together. One is that it's been raining a lot (or at least a lot for us) recently so we're probably going to be cold and maybe wet at this outdoor concert, but I think we'll survive that and have a really fun time together. The other problem is that my MS has really been kicking my butt recently and I've been in a lot of pain for about a week and a half. My legs have been really stiff and sore and I'm definitely not up for a long hike of any kind right now, so if there's a lot of walking to be done at the Taos gorge I'll just sit and read my Kindle until my friends finish their hike. I'll be okay, just not going to do a lot of walking around if I can help it. On Monday I'm going to call and make an appointment with my neurologist because apparently it's time for me to get back on a treatment for my MS...

So anyway, that's the story of my life right now. I hope that you all have a fantastic weekend and I'll talk to you in a day or two.

There was much rejoicing!

OK, let the travel bug bite you, just not the Zika mosquitoes!

We had rain late afternoon for about 2 hours and got 1 1/3 inches and it is getting dark out now so looks like it might repeat today. We are cooler today than normal and I am loving it-high of only 88 and supposed to stay like that for a few days. We certainly won't complain or try to run it off.

I've got the travel bug again. Got an email from Princess cruises and a brochure from another company. Just might do it. I'll have fun looking through stuff today.

Happy weekend everyone.

I got up early to do some garden work-it was cooler today, lower humidity and a nice breeze. I filled up the back of my cart so feel like progress was made!!
DH had to go back to get his hearing aides checked-the flipper to change settings fell off the 1st day so got that repaired. Vickie & Sonny rode along and we ate a late lunch. Nice to have friends to go along and make a fun afternoon out of things. No stopping at thrift stores today-looked like rain so came on home - we have little Abby for 5 days - her parents dropped her off about 11:30. We beat the thunder and rain by about an hour and that was good-both girls snuggled close to us during the worst of it but down and about now.
We got over an inch in about an hour but haven't gone out to check since it stopped raining. The temperature dropped from 90 to 78 in a rush. Feels great out there right now.

Gail good luck on finding what foods to eat to help ease your arthritis pain. Not always the easiest thing to do-giving up our comfort foods can be a challenge.

I made a trip to W-Mart early this morning-I hate dealing with the crowds later on in the day. In and out in under 30 min. I wouldn't have taken as long but I did take time to look in the garden center!!

After a bite of breakfast, I got busy outside before it got too hot-I really do have to limit my time out in the heat.

I decided to clean out my linen closet and that ended up being a bigger job than I planned. I ended up taking everything out and pitching some things and then sorting out things to keep, donate, and pitch and it is much neater in there now!!

Good Morning:

I have been having some issues with my shoulders in recent weeks and decided it was time to do something. Three days ago I started doing PT exercises. The first day was painful and difficult. The second day was better and yesterday was better still. Got to keep this up. It's a sure fire way to reduce or eliminate pain and increase my range of motion. I've got to also get serious about sharply reducing gluten and sugar in my diet. I find that those foods act as inflammatories for me. I read an article yesterday that identified foods to be avoided if you have arthritis. Well, it was just about every thing: my favorite fruits and veggies, red meat, gluten, sugar. and some other goodies. Yeah, right. I'm not sure what's left to eat.....

Finally finished THE MONSTER OF FLORENCE yesterday. I didn't read it all at once and found it was hard keeping track of the characters. May go back to it at some time.

Hoping you enjoy the rest of your week.

Gail
