Sandy, do hope you are feeling better now. I am happy the heat doesn't give me migraines. I just have to be careful to not get overheated when working outside-I do it in very limited amounts these days. Sounds like you are busy as ever at work-good job security.

Vickie ended up at Urgent Care this morning so they didn't go to church with us. Another park resident was there so he went to lunch with us after church. Had a nice visit with him. It is nice to visit with other neighbors in the park occasionally.

DH has to see his nephrologist tomorrow-hoping they were able to get his labs-nurse called three times on Fri about them-I didn't look at my Aug calendar and we didn't get the labs done a week ahead of time-I looked on Wed to see what was coming up in Aug and we had already eaten breakfast so had to do them on Thur. Doubt dr will be happy but it is what it is! Also, his primary called while we were getting the hearing aides on Fri and we didn't get back in time to call to find out what that was for. We decided to do both labs at the same time so he didn't need to get stuck twice. Guess it will be a busy Mon. morning.

Went window shopping yesterday. Frankly, I'm not a fan but at least I was on my feet for 1 1/2 hours. Better than sitting on my butt. And no, I didn't buy anything. What else is new?

Didn't post at all yesterday. Came home and went right to bed. I had a raging migraine due to the heat. The heat here was 87 yesterday which is really hot for us. By the time I got off I was so sick I couldn't wait to get out and home. The migraine is better today. I am going to bed early tonight as I have to be at work at 5am tomorrow. It is Price change time and back to school.

Hope all of you are having a weekend. Stay cool everyone.

Val, I doubt you have a programmable thermostat, but do you set it higher while you are at work? I am sure Callie cat would still be ok at 80-82 if she was not used to a/c. I know it helps us to set it higher when we aren't up. I mostly keep ours on a steady 78 and run a fan. As you know we have been very hot and so far haven't gotten to $170 a month for our electric bill.

I did a bit of work in the park early-a few min. after 7 when I got out. I got the last of the roses deadheaded today. I did some spraying to kill some weeds-just not going to keep weeding-we have money in the budget and our board president is going to have to hire someone and use it!

Vickie & I put out a shepherds hook with one of the birdhouses we purchased recently-it is a large ceramic and is very nice. We are getting rid of the wooden ones as we find others to replace them-they only last a couple of years down here.

After getting good and hot, we decided it was time to head to the pool-spent from 10:15 till 1 at the pool today-lots of good exercise-I tread water in the deep end and work out with water weights.

We got a strong storm about 30 min after 1 returned home-we actually got 2 1/2 inches of rain today. Happy it didn't go around us again.

Val: Always good to hear from you. Sorry things at work are so hectic. I can imagine how you are looking forward to your days off. One thing is good....it seems to me when you leave the lab you're done. No work to bring home. My last job before I retired was like that.

Pat: Hope Bill's new hearing aids work out.

Take care and stay cool everyone.

emoticon Sorry I haven't been around for a few days. I made the mistake of installing Windows 10 a few days ago (while it was still free) and it's been a pain in my hind end since then. I guess the operating system is okay, certainly not worse than Windows 8 which is what I had before. I've just been busy getting used to it and figuring out which of my important programs I'm going to have to find new versions of to download because they will not work with Windows 10. emoticon I'll get it all figured out...sooner or later...

It's been an interesting week at work. Problems with the machine I'm in charge of. Problems with the machine I accidentally caught on fire last year. Problems with not having enough people working in our lab to get the job done well a good deal of the time. It's exhausting some days. One more day to work this week so I'm just hanging on for dear life...

Our weather is hot, hot, hot right now. emoticon emoticon Luckily our humidity is usually pretty low, but it's been higher recently because we've been getting some occasional rain showers. My electric bill was outrageous last month because I'm having to use my air conditioner so darn much. emoticon I hope you're all staying cool and enjoying the summer more than I do. Can't wait for fall...

Stay cool and I'll try not to stay away for so long this time. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

We went to some thrift stores today and picked up a few things for the park before picking up DH's hearing aides. He is thrilled so far. He gets to try them for a couple of weeks before we have to decide to purchase them.
I am thinking I will go to the farmers market tomorrow-I am wanting some good fresh tomatoes-what we are growing are the salad ones.

Had to take DH for his bloodwork today-we almost messed up-his appointment is Mon. and should get this done a week ahead of time but I hadn't looked at my Aug. calendar till Wed AFTER we ate breakfast so had to do it this morning!!
Tomorrow we got to get his hearing aides fitted. Will do a little thrift store shopping too and have lunch out. Too hot to do much else. Heat index this afternoon about 107!

Have fun at the mall Gail. I know that time passes so quickly when you have a walking buddy. I walked on my lunch hour with a friend for years-in the winter and summer we did the mall but we did the zoo in the spring and fall when it was mild out.
It is extremely hot out today so staying inside and doing things inside today.

Thank you! I go back to work on Thursday and they are to announce it either then or Friday. Until then I can not say anything to anyone at work. I am really looking forward to this new challenge. I am on a 90 day probation. I have been resting all day but, have done some cleaning. One more day off then back to work.

Hope all of you have a great rest of the week.

I have been working some crazy hours and then dealing with my business. Luckily my business slowed down a little with school being let out. We will pick back up just before school starts.

Good News is I just got promoted to the head of Intimates Dept. I just found out today. I had applied for a Managers position knowing that it was to much of a jump from where I am not to the Managers job. It comes with a pay rise and the job starts next week. I have the next two days off and I am going to rest.

I hope all of you with the High Temps stay cool and drinking plenty of water. We are only in the 80's here with very low Humidity. I know my son said that they were really warm in Maryland and he was staying inside with the A/C. Hard to believe that he just turned 30 this month.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

I had a nice long message typed and BAM it disappeared into cyberspace. We had a busy morning. DH has to get his hearing aides checked so we were busy beavers. We got the sheets into the washer before breakfast. I gave Abbie a bath after breakfast and while DH sat outside for her to airdry, I got the ironing caught up. We had to be on our way before 10 and didn't get out of there until 11:30.
Sorry to say but both of DH's hearing aides have cracks. I guess all those accidental drops over the past 5 yrs have caught up to them. Rather than sink more $$ into them, we decided to order new ones. They will be in later this week and he gets 2 weeks to try them before we have to decide to purchase them.
We went to Sam's Club afterwards and got a rotisserie chicken for our lunch. One of the best bargains out there-we get at least 3 meals out of that chicken and only $4.99!
Got our yard mowed this afternoon-poor lawn guy-very hot out.
Well, time to get ready for Trivia night.

Val: So good to hear from you. I was thinking of you yesterday and wondering how you are doing.

Pat: I make crustless quiche frequently. What did yours have in it? Was it vegetarian? Yesterday I cooked up a pound of ground beef and added taco seasonings to it. I'll be eating it over iceberg lettuce and tomato this week for a taco salad.

My potted tomato plant continues to grow. Wonder if giving it a couple of jolts of Miracle Grow when I first got it had something to do with it.

I've had a really lazy Sunday. Slept late, which isn't unusual for me on a Sunday and was actually pretty necessary this week as I didn't sleep much during the week. After I got up I fixed a late breakfast for lunch and watched TV for a while. Did a little bit of cleaning (vacuuming and sweeping) and now the load of laundry I washed is in the dryer. Tomorrow I have to go to the post office, pick up packages at the apartment office, take my trash to the trash compactor, do my weekly shopping and steam some vegetables I bought on Friday so that I'll have something to eat for my dinners at work. I bought asparagus, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli that I'll steam tomorrow and eat with quinoa that i'm going to cook tomorrow, too. I'm going to have some high fiber, low sodium dinners this week, much better than frozen dinners. emoticon

Our temperatures have been right around 100 for a couple of weeks, but at least we don't have the humidity here that so many of you have to deal with. The heat is hard on me because of my MS, but with humidity it would just be murder. I hope you are all surviving the heat wave that's been going on. emoticon Anyway, that's about all the excitement I've got in my life. Hope everyone has a really great week.

There was much rejoicing!

We actually have gotten an inch of rain the last 2 nights. It was much needed. Another hot one today 94 with a heat index of 104.
We tried a restaurant we had never been to after church. It was called the Magical Meat Boutique. It actually served British pub fare and was named for the owners father's meat market back in London. It was a fun and very different meal. I had the best crustless quiche I have ever eaten.

Too hot to work outside so working on cleaning out closets and cupboards and making a pile for the thrift stores.
Our electric was off earlier in the week and we had not changed the batteries recently in our programmable thermostat so I thought I had it all reprogrammed after I replaced the batteries but evidently I missed Sat so it got up to 84! Well, that is remedied now but .....too hot in here for a little while.

Hey, if anyone is an AT&T cellphone customer and is an AARP member, they are offering 10% off your bill if you come in and sign up. Just passing this along-another way to save a little bit.

Did weeding very early this morning and quit by about 8:30 and still was a sopping wet mess!

I think to keep our sanity we must unplug a bit-it is getting to be too much for all of us anymore.

We got our flag pole installed today. It looks really nice in front of our house. I was just sorry we didn't get it up before the 4th of July.

I haven't been reading for pleasure the past few days and I believe it's because I've been riveted to the TV with all the crises that keep emerging. In the past crime rates were actually worse, but they weren't reported on national TV. Today, everything is sensationalized. Having it in my face is quite disturbing.

Gail, I buy very little for myself. I mainly buy items to use in decorating our park. I use a lot of birdhouses and down here the wooden ones do not last more than 2-3 years so trying to replace with ceramic ones which are usually fairly expensive so when I can find nice ones reasonable I do get excited.
Like you, at home I am trying to simplify things-I have cleaned out a lot of things and ready to clean out even more. Some friends think it is awful that I am trying to make it simple for our kids when something happens to us but I know what a chore I had twice cleaning out for dad and the 2nd time wasn't nearly as bad as the 1st because I kept things simple when we moved him down here. I figure these are things I should do while I am healthy because I know there will come a time when I can't do it.
I am so tired of the extremely hot weather-this month we have been above 95 every day and the heat index over 100-105 most days. Our normal average is 91 and one wouldn't think that would make a big difference but it does. Yesterday I sat up front and it was actually pleasant to sit and enjoy a cool breeze about 10 am but by 1 it was stifling out. I haven't been walking because it is so hot even at 6 am-trying to get to the pool several days a week for exercise and working early in the gardens to get my exercise.

Pat: Since I cleared out my house I cannot get too excited about buying things. The only thing I'd like to get is a coffee table for the family room, but I'm in no hurry. So glad you enjoy shopping. Anything innocent which gives you pleasure is great.

I am always excited when I find things we can use to beautify our park at a bargain price. That ceramic birdhouse was the pick of my finds! Today Vickie & I took a load of things to donate-some from our homes and some items that didn't sell at the annual yard sale and was left taking up space in our storage unit-we need space more than the few $$ we will get for the things!!

We took Abbie to the groomer this morning and she looks so different-we took her top knot off and took her hair shorter this time. She was a bit peeved with us when we picked her up but seems ok now.

While she was at the groomer, we went to a couple of thrift stores and did we hit a gold mine. So excited-got a beautiful snowman about 2 foot tall that will look nice at Christmas, then we found a ceramic birdhouse, two lamps that we plan to make into solar lights, 2 placques to hang on the outside of our maintenance shed when the shrubs are removed-we plan to do rock in place of shrubs and then put ornamental yard items there - less work for Vickie & I.

Well, this new format is driving me crazy to find things. It was fine just the way it was. as my grandfather use to say "if it's not broke why fix it."

Just came off a overnight with work where we revamp the shoe dept. and cleaned it up. We are getting ready for back to school and the new shoes that will be coming in ad the boots. Next week I will be working all mornings and will be working Truck 2 days. I have applied for a managers/Dept. head position. We will see what happens. There are a couple of people that are a head of me that could get it. We had someone step down from their position to take a lower one. So, we will see.

This summer has been really nice, knock on wood, we have had our normal cool 70 degree. We had a warm spring but since then it has been really nice. Hoping for it to last.

Hope that all of you have a wonderful weekend.

I was so saddened by the act of terror that took place in Nice, France last night. After going to bed I got up around 3am and continued to watch the commentaries. What a world we live in. Hardly a day goes by when we don't hear of major killings, not to mention the wars that are a constant reminder of our insane times. What kind of world are we leaving for future generations?

Glad to hear you figured it out.

I have worked in the park again today and only have one bed left to do and hoping after this we can turn it over to the new maintenance men to care for! I took the day off yesterday and had a mini girls day out which was nice-all work and no play isn't fun at all!

Have made it to the pool a couple times this week.

Gail all of my friends make fun of me for ironing but I guess it is just one of the things I like to have-freshly pressed clothing! Bill likes creases even in his blue jeans and shorts as do I and I also like the wrinkles out of my tops. He does the laundry and if he took it out immediately and hung it up, I wouldn't have to press as much BUT he doesn't and if I say anything he gets upset soooo it is just easier for me to press things!!!

I did more work in the park gardens this morning-about 2 hours but things are slowly getting back in shape. With the heat I could not work in the afternoons when I was working and I try to fit it in around everything else we do!

We took 1st place at Trivia!!!!!! First time for that so everyone was excited. Wonder if we will ever do this again.

Pat: It amazes me that you still iron with all the materials around that require no ironing. A friend o mine also still irons....I had a lot of table cloths from the 1900s that needed ironing. When I was clearing out the house I decided I didn't want to do that any more so I donated them to the Hospice Thrift Shop. The fetched quite a bit since they were "vintage". Now I mostly use play mats, but I have several permanent press tablecloths that I picked up at the thrift stores. When company comes I'm all set. Sometimes, for a change I use a table cloth or a table cloth and a mat.

My tomato plant is growing in leaps and bounds. I'm worried that there may not be enough dirt is the plant to sustain it. Such problems....

Stay cool and hydrated everyone.

I got up quite early this morning to work in park gardens and managed to finish the bed I started the other day and did the circle garden in front of the clubhouse. Then I came home and trimmed my ornamental sweet potato and deadheaded my roses. by 10 am one cannot handle being outside -at least I can't! I used my cooling towel today and it was a big help. Best $5 I have ever spent!
My ironing is caught up and I cleaned out a couple more drawers I am trying to get caught up on inside things when it is too hot to work outside.
Val I do hope you enjoyed your vacation.

Took a friend out yesterday for a birthday lunch. It was so good. We went to Outback and had steak. It's been a couple of years since I had steak and it was so good.

Not planning anything for today. Will read and listen to beautiful music.

I did a couple of loads of laundry today. Tomorrow I'm going to clean off my dining room table, which is actually in my dining room now as opposed to the living room in my old apartment, and then I'm going to collect all of my stuff together and try to use the cleaned off table to get back to making jewelry again. I've got so many nice beads and stones that I'd like to string together to make necklaces that I can give as gifts or maybe even sell at the hospital's arts and crafts fair next year.

Other than that, not much going on around here right now. My first week back from vacation was too long, but then so are pretty much all of them. I can think of so many things I'd rather do than work for a living, but at least it pays my bills. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and that the new week starts off well for you.

There was much rejoicing!

Vickie & I went to a small community yard sale this morning and then did all the things to close the house down for Bob & Ellie as they left early this morning for MO. This afternoon we played cards with our friends and the guys won 2 out of 3 of the games. I did get a load of laundry done and my ironing caught up and that pretty much took care of the day for me.

I think we moms always tend to think of our children as our "babies" no matter how old they get. My sons are both in their 40's but seems like they should still be teenagers not men entering into middle age! They have both lived longer than their father did. I know he would be proud of the fathers they are now. I regret he never lived to see his grandchildren.
I am thankful for DH, he stepped in after the boys father passed away and has been their father figure longer now than their own father.

Good Morning:

My son called last night. He lives in NC...quite far from WI. We had a nice long visit. He's a grown man in his late 40s, but God help me, I still think of him as my little boy. And I still think of my 52 year old daughter as my little girl. I guess I'll die with those thoughts. Thankfully, I don't mix previous thoughts with reality and treat them both as adults. It's hard though. Any of you have these feelings?

Wishing you all a happy day,

Gail

We attempted to help our friends clean their pontoon boat yesterday but by 11 it was entirely too hot so we decided to do it early this morning. We met about 6 am and it is now cleaned and under their carport and they will head north Sat. morning. After all the scrubbing we all headed home for showers and went out for one last breakfast together.
I got a haircut this afternoon, went to the bank and stopped to pick up a few groceries-the clerk didn't think I had the $50 needed to get a $50 gas car for $40 but I did-$52.11 total-how is that for figuring out what I needed without overspending!

Don't know what's going on but I'm out of sorts since yesterday. Yesterday I was nauseous and queasy most of the day and very lethargic. Today, I just can't seem to get with it. I went back to bed after breakfast and just got up. I immediately went into the shower and am hoping that will get me awake. A cup of coffee probably wouldn't hurt either. Nothing hurts, no other symptoms.

The weather here go very humid yesterday. It's that way again today and this will last till tomorrow. It's been raining at night and the trees and plants are loving it.

Be well and happy.
