Sandy sorry to hear you hurt your back. It is wise to take it easy to give it time to heal. Strange how just a simple move can often cause us a lot of pain.

Yes Gail, I will be glad to hand the reins back over to Sharon. I am glad I don't have to do this on a full time basis. It is nice for something different than my everyday routine but by the end of the month I really understand why I do not want to work fulltime anymore!!!

It is getting dark out so thinking we might get some more rain this afternoon. High of 94.

Val - Glad you had a wonderful Birthday.

I have been really busy and tired. I also hurt my back and had been laid up and taking it easy when I am not working.

Hope all of you are having a great week.

Val glad you had a great birthday-sounds like a nice time out with friends. I hope you have good luck finding a dresser and bedside tables or nightstands-whatever you like. Enjoy what is left of your vacation. It is great that you have a/c this year. When I was a kid we didn't have any a/c and now I can't imagine life without it!
I had another busy day at the office and have just one more to deal with BUT I have to go in tomorrow for about 30 min to take care of something. I will deal with month end on Fri and hope to get things started for July so Sharon won't have that to deal with when she returns on Tues.
This afternoon we finished up with our cremation plans and now the kids won't have that to deal with all of that.
We did have a thunderstorm blow thru about 1 today and got 1/3 of an inch in about 20 min. It was very welcome as the rain has been missing us.

Thank you, Gail. I had a really great birthday celebration with friends, but now I'm going to have to work hard to burn off the seafood enchiladas and the two margaritas I had at dinner with my friends last night. emoticon It was wroth it, though. We had a great time, and a friend from high school, who I hadn't seen since 1982 but found again through a reunion site online, showed up before going to work. All in all, it was a great day.

We had a nice cool spring, but now it's getting really hot here. We were up to 98 and 99 degrees a couple of weeks ago, though now we're only getting up to the low 90s. At least we have low humidity, but I can't wait till summer is over. I know that a lot of other parts of the country have been really hot recently, so I hope that you've all been able to stay cool. (I just love my new apartment and its air conditioning. emoticon )

Tomorrow I'm going shopping with a friend to look for a new dresser and a couple of bedside tables. Time to replace the dresser I got when a roommate moved out of a house I was living in about 25 years ago with one that's not falling apart, and the wooden TV tables I've been using beside my bed just aren't hacking it. So I guess this isn't really going to be a very frugal vacation, but my excuse is that I've put off buying these things for quite a number of years because I didn't want to spend the money. But now it's just time...

I've got other organizing chores I need to do around here. Still haven't moved that darn bookshelf out of my closet, but I may have actually come up with a better plan for it. We'll just see what I can get done before the end of the week...

I hope this week is a good one for all of you.

There was much rejoicing!

Nan & Gail I hope to get back into reading after this week-I am even behind on my magazines! I don't enjoy it like I once did but hoping with the kindle I will get back into it. I have to go to the library and get it set up to borrow books from them for free. I was getting them on my tablet but have given it to DH to play with so won't "take it back" to read on now!

Yesterday I finished another Magdelan Naab book, "Death in Autumn". Today I'll move on to her next book in the series, "The Marshal and the Murderer". These are short books that can be read in a day.

Going to the dentist this afternoon to get a crown. Glad this will be over with.

G.

Val: Happy Birthday. Did you celebrate yesterday or this past weekend?

Pat: Glad your work is now behind you. Enjoy....

Nan: You reading anything now? Are you in to crafts?

Sandy: Hope all is well with you. Hang in there girl.

A minister is walking down the street one day when he notices a very small boy trying to press a doorbell on a house across the street. However, the boy is very small and the doorbell is too high for him to reach.
After watching the boys efforts for some time, the minister moves closer to the boy's position, and gives the doorbell a solid ring.
Crouching down to the child's level, the minister smiles benevolently and asks, "And now what, my little man?" To which the boy replies, "Now we run!"

Gail the top 3 teams receive a prize ($). We won $20 for 2nd place. I do not know what 1st receives. We placed 5th out of 10 teams this week.
Today we went to a seminar on cremation. Before we left at 9:30 I had done up our meds for the week and given Abbie a bath. I even balanced our checkbook so pretty much keeping up with things on a daily basis.

Nan: Had mine mowed yesterday. It smells so sweet and looks so good. Glad some of the neighborhood kids are interested in earning a few $$$. A Timebank member is coming Friday to deadhead the flowers, trim the bushes and do the little weeding that there is.

Woke up this morning in horrible pain in my right arm. Actually, I didn't sleep all night, not even after taking ibuprofen. Had to take some again this morning. I think I was sleeping in an awkward position. It's quite a bit better now. Anyone have remedies for this?

Hope all of you are having a great weekend. Val hope you enjoy your vacation. I do bet Cali cat will enjoy the new cat tree. I know my DB's cats love the one they have.

8 of us went out to eat after church. The guys wanted crab legs so we all splurged and went to an all you can eat restaurant. Yum, yum. Won't do that again anytime soon.

It is back to work for me tomorrow.

Good Morning:

The weather here is hot too (upper 80s) but that's nothing compared to what some of you are experiencing. My AC goes on from time to time, but not that much. I have great insulation, special window shades throughout the house (keep heat in in winter and cool in in summer), shade trees on the south side of the house, and a very efficient AC that I got a year or two ago. My utility bill for last month was about $135...that's for 2200 + sq ft above ground and a 1200 sq ft basement. I've been reading out on my screened porch which is on the north side of the house. When it gets too hot I come in. My heart goes out to those who have horrible heat, floods, wildfires, and other disasters. They keep coming, don't they, one after another>

I bought a tomato plant at the farmer's market last week and put it in a big pot. It was doing great and grew like crazy this past week. Late yesterday afternoon I took a look at it and the leafs were lacy. I think some bugs have gotten to it and I'm siappointed.. The tomato plant is a Rose Berne, my very favorite variety. Do any of you have a remedy? I might take a leaf off and bring it to the local nursery to see what they recommend.

Going out with the family today to celebrate Father's Day. My son-in-law will be the only father there, but that's fine. His mom, his wife and I will be there too. I'm not sure if my granddaughter is coming in from Chicago.

Sending you all good energy. As Val says, stay hydrated.

Gail

Well my work week is finally over and now I'm on vacation for 2 weeks! Hooray!! I'm not going to go anywhere, just hang out in Albuquerque and work on organizing my apartment. I still need to bring that shelf out of my closet and I've got a lot of boxes that need to be unpacked, so I'm going to work on those projects. I'm also going to go furniture shopping with my friend Angela on Thursday. I've been needing to go look at and buy a new dresser and some bedside tables, but I hate doing that kind of shopping by myself. Having a second opinion is a good thing when I'm doing something like that. Then on the 27th, which will be my 52nd birthday, I'm going out for dinner and drinks with a bunch of friends. I only drink a few times a year and over the last 5 years or so going out with friends for margaritas and Mexican food on my birthday has become a new tradition. It's always a lot of fun...and there's always someone to drive me to and from the get together because I drink so seldom that I don't trust myself to drive afterward.

We had such nice cool weather for quite a while, but over the last week or so it has gotten really hot here. We're up to almost 100 degrees every afternoon lately. Luckily our humidity is very low still, but it's still unpleasant when it gets that hot. I'm so happy to be in this apartment with an air conditioner this year. I really don't think I could have handled another summer with an evaporative cooler.

The only other thing I have planned for my time off is putting together a little cat tree I bought for Cali Cat. It's not one of the fanciest, but I think that she'll like it. It has 2 little rooms that she can hide in and take a nap and a little platform at the top that she can sit on while she looks out the window. She likes jumping and climbing so I think that she's going to like this.

I hope that everything is going really well for the rest of you. I guess almost every part of the country is having really hot weather right now so everyone stay cool and drink lots of fluids. We don't need anyone getting heat stroke, that's for sure. Take care and have a really great weekend.

There was much rejoicing!

Gail sounds like a lovely luncheon with your neighbor.

I am glad it is Friday-just 2 more weeks of work. Had to do a well check today-a daughter called that she wasn't able to reach her father and had to find out if he was ok. It was a shock when we entered his home and didn't find anyone there. Finally made a call and found out he was in the hospital! He had a heart cath today (or was supposed to).
Another lady who was causing me some issues is now in a nursing home. I feel sorry for her and don't mind helping (as with others) but she then expects one to drop everything and be at her beck and call and it soon gets old as everyone here is over 55 and many of us are caring for our own spouses, etc. If one isn't able to drop everything, she is then mad at you. Several people have backed off helping her because of how she has treated them. Hoping finally the nephew will step in and do something for her as she has no children.

Didn't get to read much yesterday. Right now I'm reading Michele Giuttari's DEATH UNDER A TUSCAN SUN, and Adler-Olsen'sTHE ABSENT ONE.

I invited my neighbor for lunch yesterday. We had Italian sandwiches ( roasted red peppers, roasted eggplant, and melted provalone), grape tomatoes, and Kalamata olives. We also had somebody Prosecco. Good lunch, and great company.

I wonder how some people have time to get bored-not happening in my life! Busy morning at work then we ran errands before coming home and I did some cooking (DH was wanting his rice krispie treats-one of the things he can have as a sweet treat) and I made grape salad. We enjoyed fresh corn on the cob, baked cauliflower and a home grown tomato for dinner tonight. We try to do the veggies only 2 or 3 times a week

I just finished the last book in Elizabeth George's Lynley series. There were a few things at the end that were very profound. One of the characters realizes that we often wish to change somebody so they will be what we want them to be. But, it's their past that makes them what we are and we cannot change a person's past. Food for thought.

Sandy hope things improve and you scheduling gets better. Do hope you don't hurt too badly - always something as we age it seems! We just have to learn to deal.
I worked this morning (crazy as well)! Then DH & I both had appointments in the afternoon with the eye dr. We both had decent news-no change in our vision. He wants DH to take an eye vitamin and he wants me to take bilberry to see if it improves my night vision.
Tonight we attended trivia and finished 4th out of 8 teams.

Everything went well with my Physical except that I have burses in my right hip on top of my Arthritis. Work has been busy and my hours have been crazy. It has been like a rollercoaster and it is not a fun one. This week I work 7pm to 11pm then off ,then 5:30am - 2pm then 5pm to 11pm, then off. then 6am to 12pm. As I said a crazy schedule.

Ex DH got a job and it is much better than the last one. He already has health benefits. He seems a lot happier this time around than last. Just glad he found something that he likes.

Hope that everyone has a great day!

How right you are. I always tell my children and grandchildren I love them before I hang up when we conclude a telephone conversation.

Take a moment and tell your loved ones how you feel-today showed us none of us ever know if we will get to see them again. So sad what happened in Orlando. Let us all pray for love instead of all this hate in the world. Sad!

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. I purchased a cooling cloth today to hopefully help me stay cool when I work outside in the heat. Anyone ever use one?
Another hot day here-92 for our high and felt warmer.

Another crazy day-I worked and then had to see the foot dr at noon. I picked up Ellie and she rode along with me so Bill could stay home. We did lunch out and I took her to a couple of thrift stores and then I had a coupon for JC Penney and I got a $38 blouse for $4.67! Our last stop was to pick up some Good Belly for Bill-had a coupon to get 1 free if I bought 2. I can only get it at Super Target or Fresh Market and neither are in my town.

Yes Pat, sometimes on our day off it's just go, go, go. When I look back it seems my whole life was a rush. Now I really enjoy doing little or nothing and don't rush any more.

I had a day off but seem to have been on the go most of it. We do breakfast on Thursdays with our friends and when we got home, Bill had to see the ortho doc. His shot in the shoulder has given him relief so nothing further to do - we are just to call if he gets to feeling a lot of pain again. He cannot have another shot before Sept but the dr is hoping this will keep him going for 18-24 months but he says there are no guarantees.
Once we got out of the dr's office, we headed to the tire shop. Our car tire has had a slow leak for some time and we were having to put in air more and more frequently so felt it was wise to get it fixed and not ruin the tire. Luckily they worked us in and we were out of there in about 45 min. That is one less worry.
I have worked in the yard and pulled weeds at home. I also caught up my ironing (didn't have too much).
Our high today was only 90 but the weather man said our heat index made it feel like it was 100. I actually didn't think it was too bad today when I was outside working, maybe because there was a light breeze here by the lake.
We had a brief shower about 5.
I have a roast on for supper so best go check on that.

Last night I was listening to some things on U Tube, which included conversations with Luciano Pavarotti, the famous opera tenor who died of cancer a few years back. I had listened to some serious conversations he had had with interviewers in the past, but these were so funny...real belly laughs. He had a great sense of humor and was very charming, despite the fact that he looked like Bluto, Popeye's rival. With all his talents and likable personality, he wasn't without his human foibles. He divorced his first wife of 30 some odd years who helped him build his career, and married his assistant who was younger than any of his daughters. For a long time I couldn't bring myself to listen to his music.

G.

Pat: So glad you didn't experience serious damage because of the TS. However, that heat you are now dealing with can't be a picnic. Stay well and hydrated.

Sandy: Good luck on your physical.

TS Colin has left and the heat and humidity moved in. High of 97 today and very humid. It is still 94 at 6 PM. I am not sure that I am really ready for the long hot summer but guess I best get ready as it isn't going away for several months!!!
Worked again today 8 to 12. I am off tomorrow as DH has a dr's appt. and we both have appts. on Fri so will work a short day. That will get me half way thru my working for Sharon. I am off on my walking with all the rain so must get back into the groove. That means I go to be by 10 so I can be up by 5:30.

We have finally cooled down here. We have overcast skies today. Much nicer than the 95 degrees we were having. I work again tonight and then off tomorrow. I have my annual Physical tomorrow.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

TS Colin gave us 3" of rain from Sun eve thru today. We had some wind gusts up to 45 MPH but no major damage or flooding. There is a reason we choose to not live on the coasts.
I worked 2 hours today so we could do 2 closings and have no more set up for the month. This afternoon I spent about 3 hours with Ellie at the dermatologist while she had some cancer removed. They had to go in twice to get it all and she has 9 stitches and dr said she will likely have a black eye.

OK, so I chickened out. I made rhubarb preserves. No need for Jello; they use orange zest and 1/3 C orange juice. Evidently, orange has pectin. Not much to it: just dump a few ingredients in a pot and let it simmer for about 45 minutes.

G.

Pat: How are you doing? Did you get flooded?

My Aunt make Rhubarb and Strawberry jam. It is soooo good.

Weather here is out of control. It is 96 here today. Going to work at 7pm to 11pm tonight. Hopefully it will have cooled down by then. Yesterday it was 95 and we didn't cool down till 2 am 65 degrees. emoticon

Hope everyone is having a great week.

I do miss fresh rhubarb-doesn't do well down here. I didn't make it to the market yesterday but hopefully will make it next Sat.
We are getting really dark out but still very hot. Could have rain anytime. Supposedly there could be a tropical storm coming in tomorrow or earlier.

Good Morning:

Went to the farmer's market yesterday and got some Tuscan kale, red leaf lettuce and a flat leaf parsley plant. Hadn't gone since last summer. Should probably go every week. I'll always find something healthy to buy.

It's supposed to rain today. We've had great weather : cool at night and in the 70s-80 in the afternoon. Yesterday it was drizzling in the morning but sunny and glorious later on.

Got some rhubarb from a neighbor. Will try a new recipe. The recipe is for a French rhubarb tart. I'll just make the filling.

wishing you all a happy Sunday.

It was 86 today here and we are to get into the 90's tomorrow. Not looking forward to it. Work is even warm.

Hope everyone is staying cool. Keeping all in my prayers that are having flooding and bad weather.

We're supposed to start hitting the 90s here by Sunday or Monday. I'm not looking forward to that at all. We've been having really nice weather, staying cool and pleasant later in the season than we normally do, but I guess that's about to be over. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. emoticon

One more day of work this week and then I can sleep as late as I want for two days. I'm just planning on taking it easy and doing a little organizing around the place. Nothing too strenuous for me this weekend. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

There was much rejoicing!

Day off today. Did a few things and got my shot. Took a nap. It was 75 or 80 here today. That is warm for us up here. It is to get up to 85 tomorrow and into the 90's this weekend.

TGIF-didn't think I would be saying that again emoticon

Did get up by 5:30 today to walk and it was already hot-no wind at all but enjoyed hearing the birds serenade me, saw 3 big gators in the lake and several birds trying to catch a fish. All the beauty of nature and I didn't even leave my community. Got to the pool for nearly 2 hours this afternoon. Then went to a BBQ at friends-pretty good day!

Didn't get my walk in this morning-didn't get to sleep till about 11:30 as a late phone call kept me up so couldn't force myself to get up at 5. I even took a nap this afternoon! Oh well, time to go to bed now or I won't get up again tomorrow. I am trying to walk at least 5 days a week and if I get more that is a bonus.

Busy, busy that seems to be me these days. I am getting up between 5 and 5:30 am so I can walk for an hour before heading into work. I am looking forward to the weekend. However, it is summer down here so if I want to walk, I will still have to get up early to do it-we hit 92 today and could go to 95 tomorrow!!!

Good Morning:

It's hard to believe that June is here already. Our weather has been very mild but the last few days we've had rain. Nothing like the rain in Texas, but enough so that the lawns look like putting greens.

In our area we have all our utility lines underground. That said, there are three small grey towers that are above ground. I have planted something so that I don't see them when I look outside. Well, the bush I planted in front of them took a hit a couple of years ago when we had a very cold winter. I had a small ash tree...a volunteer...but of course that didn't hide anything. I had the ash taken down, but the guy never came to grind the stump. Last year shoots emerged from around the stump and it looked like a small bush. This year, with all the rain, it has grown so much that it now hides the utility towers. I don't like things too big so I'll have to trim it. LOL

Hoping to get some exercise...any exercise... in this month.
