I have done well using up what is in my pantry this year! However I have one question: Is it cheating that I found a few stale items that I then threw in the compost bin? LOL - I do use the compost rather than fertilizer so in that sense I saved some $$

I can do it!!

Took everything out of the pantry, shelf by shelf, yesterday. Washed the shelves and consolidated items, took stock of what was there and realized I'll be making a lot of things with cream of ___ soups. Know anyone who needs a lot of cookie sprinkles?

I've tried keeping a list of what is in the freezer, just to remind me what needs to be eaten. Regularly, I go through the pantry to make sure the use-by dates are current and in order. But my problem lies with the other person in the house, who trots to the store 2-3 times a week to buy whatever looks good to him. Plus he brings home so many doggie bags from his business lunches that I'm hard put to either eat them or serve them to him again. Maybe I should just take a load of canned goods to the food bank.

My potatoes are starting to sprout so I threw some in the crockpot and will use the rest tomorrow. I have stale bread to use for crockpot french toast. Etc.

A pantry challenge is when you go through your kitchen cupboards, fridge, freezer and stockpile then use everything up before going shopping again. It frees up room and saves alot of money. Good to use your crockpot doing this! Just use some creativity!
