Such a beautiful day-I worked in the park after fixing DH some banana pancakes-gluten free recipe. I now have the front of the park completely pruned and ready to get fresh mulch. Tomorrow Barb & I hope to finish up the area near our clubhouse. Will be nice to have that behind us and glad I only have to do this on an annual basis.
About 1 we went with friends to eat a late lunch and then I showed them some more sights in our area. We have the highest point in Central Florida about 15 mi from where we live so took them up on Sugarloaf Mountain. From the vantage point, you can see clear to Orlando. They have recently bought down here and showing them around the area.

Today, I donated a bunch of items to my church, picked up coupons a friend had saved for me, made lunch (cabbage, mushrooms and noodles) and want to whip out the good 'ol crockpot for dinner but have not made up my mind on the recipe yet...

Yesterday, I worked on writing submissions ALL day... I was so exhausted I could not sleep. Do you ever get that way?

Have a good one!

My oh my but you two are busy bees. I made some Italian white bean soup, but that was it. Mostly I read and listened to exquisite operas.

Hope you all enjoy the week ahead.

I finished trimming my ornamental grass this afternoon after church and then watched the race. Hope to work in the park tomorrow and get at least half of the grass trimmed in the park.

Got a load of laundry into the washer and now off to church. Plan to do some yardwork this afternoon. Cool start to the day (46) but going into the mid 70's this afternoon so should be pleasant to work outside.

Sorry to hear about the gluten!

This upcoming week I am donating clothes, kitchen utencils and water bottles to my church. I sure hope the items are found useful. Everything is in good condition.

TLL good for you for figuring out at way to use up some of the items just taking up space. It wasn't frugal but I gave several bags of items from my pantry to a friend to give to her daughter since they all had gluten in them and DH just found out he is gluten sensitive so no sense in letting them go to waste and I knew she could use the extra help.
We had a nice time today at the fish fry sponsored by the boat club. The guys made DH some fish without breading BUT it was fried in the same grease so he is having a bit of a sore tummy tonight. Lesson learned-even if it doesn't have gluten on it, if it is cooked in the same grease it may cause a problem!
I worked in my yard today and got some of my ornamental grasses trimmed. I call it giving them a haircut. I have workers helping me do the same thing in the park and hopefully we can get them done this week. Spring cleanup is a chore and as many gardens as I care for it can be a big workout.

Today's frugal story...

2 friends of mine gave me a new cookbook for Christmas. I was skimming over it today for something different...a recipe that would use ingredients I already had on hand.

I have never been able to make a pancake. I just didn't have the talent.

Well, I found a recipe for "baked pancakes"!!!!! I was so excited! On top of that, my housemates and I had 3 boxes of pancake mix in our pantry that were just taking up room and not being used. (my housemates cook? Are you kidding?) 2 boxes of Cinnamon Spice and 1 box of Bisquick. So, I made a 9 x 13 of Cinnamon Spice and half of the 9 x 13 is gone!

Sunny day but still cool so looking forward to the warmup coming next week. I need to do yardwork but can't stay out long - my hands get cold!
I am working 3 days next week-earn a little extra $$. It will let our park manager have time to spend with her daughter while she is visiting her and I don't mind doing it. Helps to keep me sharp and challenges my brain. emoticon

I use coupons, buy on clearance etc. whenever I can. I do pantry challenges sometimes. I use a crockpot atleast 2 to 3 times each week. I have "coupon fairies" who save their coupons for me. I am not too shy to take them either!

Sandy glad that DS made it back ok and hope that this change works out for him. One never knows when you embark on a new journey in life but one has to go where you are led to be. Sounds like you are as busy as ever.
I took DH to his pulmonary dr today and his stats are improved with his new bi-pap machine but still not as good as dr would like. He has only had this machine about 5 weeks so dr is hoping things will continue to improve. He will see him again in 6 mo.
After that we ran a couple of errands and I found some more gluten free food for DH. He was missing bread so I bought a loaf and he had a sandwich for lunch. He isn't thrilled with it, but it will work for an occasional sandwich for him. We will keep it in the freezer so it doesn't ruin. I am trying to add variety into his diet and learning as we go.

Hi All,

I have been busy with my crazy schedule and keeping track of DS on his trek to Maryland. He has made it back there but, did hit some nasty weather along the way. Of course his Mom and sisters never called once a long the way to check on him. Which I found very odd. Nor did his mom even offer to pay for a room for him to stay in. His father and his Aunt did and DS only had to pay for one night. His Mom , well let's just say she won't win any awards for Mother of The Year.

I am now working on the books. I have spent the last 2 days on the phone making appts. of dealing with the insurance co. that hit my car. They keep saying they are sending the money but so far I have not gotten it. I will have to call on Tuesday when she is there and find out what is the hold up.

Weather here has been crazy sunny for 3 days then pouring raining for the next 8 to 10 days. This has been the wettest season we have had yet. we have not gotten a lot of snow in the lowlands but a lot in the Mountains.

I want to announce that I have add My little lady as a Co-leader to help me out she had ask and I was happy for the help. So, welcome My little lady!

Hope that everyone has a really great weekend.

Gail your lunch sounds yummy. I love cauliflower. I tend to bake it often as DH likes it like that-we can eat a whole head!
We are working very hard on making sure his diet is gluten free and I am happy he is feeling better and because of that he is doing extremely well although he does miss lots of things he used to love to eat (he loved bread!).
Our weather was really nasty yesterday but we were blessed to not have any tornadoes here. It is much cooler today but sunny and extremely windy. We did get our taxes done yesterday so glad that is behind us for another year.

Going to get my hair cut today and then off to the library.

Had a nice lunch yesterday with a neighbor. I made eggplant parmigiana in the morning and it was ready for lunch when I brought her home from the airport. We had that and homemade cream of cauliflower soup. BTW, my cream soups contain no cream..LOL

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Making a run for Aldi's today to pick up some produce and chicken thighs. BTW, do any of you like spicy food? I got this Indian spice mix for making Masala. It's very tasty and you can use as much of it as you like to suit your taste. I think it's a kind of curry. The following recipe is healthy, low in calories, and very tasty:

1 15 oz can diced tomatoes
1 onion diced
2-4 cloves garlic diced
4 pieces of uncooked chicken (I use thighs, legs and occasionally breasts)
4-5 carrots cut into chunks
2 large potatoes cut into chunks
1-2 tsps Masala spices
salt to taste

Using an emersion blender or food processor, puree the tomatoes, onion, garlic and spices.
Spray a large pot with non-stick spray. Pour the pureed mixture into the pot and then add the
other ingredients. Cook on a high heat till the stew gets hot; then put on simmer until the chicken is thoroughly cooked and the vegetables are tender.

Gail you are right-I have noticed when we go back to MO that the prices are less at Aldi-strange isn't it since one would think they bulk purchase and it would be the same everywhere but it isn't.
I made DH some gluten free pancakes this morning. It is nothing but eggs and a banana-you use your blender till smooth and then make small pancakes and DH loved them. We are working hard to find him foods to replace the ones he ate that had gluten.
I spent almost 4 hours working in the park gardens today. So much work to get them ready for spring. I need to work on mine at home too so that will be my priority M-W as it is to cool down on Thu so will put off inside work till then

Pat: I've a sneaky suspicion that Aldi's prices aren't the same all over the country. This week, for example, chicken thighs are 49 cents a pound. Also a lot of the produce is dirt cheap...a fraction of what they were asking in Florida, and, for that matter what they are asking here in Madison.

Sandy: Time to take a deep breath and try to get in some "me" time.

Sandy glad to hear from you and that your hives are doing better. Hope all works out for DS.

Gail I know our prices are higher than a lot of places-one reason I shop at Aldi and the flea markets for produce. Eggs have been all over the place-they got up to almost $4 a doz and about a week ago I got some for 99 cents a doz. but now back up to $1.89. I don't understand why they are fluctuating so much and mind you this is at Aldi! The only good thing is we don't pay tax on food.

I got the cabinets washed down on the outside today-could not believe the smudges and I guess the rest is from cooking-they had like a coating on the ones over and by the stove. I have to do more yard work tomorrow. I am trying to get "spring" pruning done before everything takes off or else I will be pruning off all the new growth.

Hi All. I have been working some crazy hours lately. I finally got to lunch with my Aunt the other day. We had a wonderful time. My son is leaving Sunday for Maryland to live with his Mom and his sister and step-sister. His mom just had open heart surgery and I think he wants to try to bond with her. She says she is going to pay for his schooling but, she is not working and hasn't worked for a while. Long story short she has disappointed him all his life and am afraid she will again this time too. He is a grow man and needs to find things out for himself. He is driving back there and Ex DH has got his route all planned out since Ex-DH was a trucker at one time.

Weather has been rainy and cool here but have had some sun breaks. My hive are OK. I am getting my shots again. I missed 2 months of shots. So, that is why my hives has been so bad. They are still not under control but, it is getting there.

Hope that everyone has a great weekend.

Good morning

Pat, I meant to mention that I was in Florida I went to the Winn Dixie a couple of times. I was blown away by the prices. The cost of food in WI is much, much cheaper. Many things were understandable. We are a dairy state, so dairy is much cheaper. Also, we are about 3 hours by car from Chicago, so meat is a lot cheaper because the transport costs are relatively low, but still. Wages in WI aren't as high s they are in other parts of the county, but a clerck told me she makes only minimum wage. How do people manage?

Gail you are too funny-I am trying to get thru my house AGAIN! I got everything back into my pantry and still have space left!! Love, love, love having those pull out shelves in there and I organized everything else into storage baskets so easy to pull them out and grouped like items.
We went for a boat ride about 11:30. The boat club sponsored it and we had 6 boats go over to the state park where we had a potluck luncheon. Lot of fun. Was a bit cool so my sweat jacket felt really good but sunny so it wasn't a big issues. We saw 7 gators on the trip over and back when we really didn't expect to see any.

emoticon to DS - DG. I am sure you are so excited and no matter what happens you will look lovely and radiant I am sure.
I am a happy camper as Kevin got all my pull out drawers installed today and already I am in love. I have all my pots and pans back in that cupboard and I will no longer have to stand on my head or get down to the floor to get the pans in the back.
Now I have to work on the pantry-I have gotten 3 flats of canned goods back in there but still have 3 big tubs of stuff to put away. It may take me a couple of days. When I am done, I plan to clean my kitchen from top to bottom and my spring cleaning will be done in there. I plan to do the living room, family room and dining room before my chairs arrive so that only leaves the bedroom and bathrooms and will work on them between times.

Hello Friends!! I am back! I have to get my act together!! DS#2 is engaged and the wedding is set for June!! :-) We are all happy! I want to be a good looking Mother of the Groom not a sloppy one! Exercised this morning!!
My hyacinths are blooming and oh so fragrant!! Daffodils are going to bloom soon too.

Copper I am sorry for your hurt. I think a lot could have been the way it was said. If a gift is chosen with care to make the receiver happy and the giver also liked it and grew to cherish it because the receiver loved it ... I can see how they would want it back after the receiver is gone. My siblings and I divided things up that way and if the giver didn't want it back then a sibling got it if they wanted it. I was thankful it all went well. I hope those in your family will explain and have better motives and mend the hurts.

Gail so glad you had a good trip! I hear you about the taxes!!

Val glad you don't have to be out when lease is up! Hope you can get a place with a/c!!

Pat sure wish I had your stamina!!

Sandy hope you are doing well!!

Nan hope you are enjoying the winter!!

Hope I didn't miss anyone!
Hugs to you all!!!

Got some Neapolitan rage simmering on the stove. Will freeze it in batches when it's done, but probably won't be able to resist having some for dinner.

Just waiting for the library guy to pick up the CDs and then I'm off to the library and Aldi's. Stay safe and warm everyone.

Val hoping you get motivated so you don't have to spend another summer in the heat. After this crazy winter who knows what we will have to deal with this summer.
Gail I called and got an appointment with the AARP tax help to do my taxes next week. They do it for free. I could do it but figure why should I when they offer this service. You might check your area to see if they offer it there if you don't want to pay to have your taxes done.
I worked all day emptying my pantry but it is cleaned out and waiting to get my pull out shelving installed. Eating may be dicey until I get everything put away because all our food is piled in tubs at the moment!!

OK. Tomorrow's the day I will get all my tax stuff in order and see if there are still some statements I haven't gotten. YUK! My bank seems to wait till the end of February before it sends stuff out. Then I call the accountant and off I go. My taxes should be very easy this year but I just don't want to do it myself. I did it in the past when it was complex, but since Vic died I just don't have whatever it takes to do it.

The library is sending a truck tomorrow to pick up 6 large boxes of CDs, many of which are still in shrink wrap. I'm donating them to the University of Wisconsin Libraries. The CDs are all classical music. I've still got lots to go through. Everything in time, right?

Hope you all are having a nice start to your week. Remember, every day is a gift....enjoy it.

Gail

My current lease expires on March 8th but it will only cost me about $75 a month more to go month to month until I can get my act in gear. I can live with that extra cost until I find a new place, but I will definitely have to find one before the end of April because I can't take another summer without a real air conditioner.

There was much rejoicing!

Penny so sorry to hear your family is expecting their "gifts" back. Once something is given then it is the receivers to do with as they choose-just ask Emily Post! Hope this doesn't cause a big rift in your family. I can't imagine someone even expressing this to you.

Gail happy to hear you had a good time and sorry our weather was a bit cooler than normal but I am sure it felt great to you after all the cold weather you have had.

Val good to hear from you. How soon do you have to make a decision on an apartment? Are you in a lease and have a time limit? Hoping you can find something as I know you really didn't like not having a/c last year.

I went for my eye check today and still holding steady. However, all the lights they shined in my eyes gave me an excruciating headache so came back home and went back to bed till lunch. This afternoon Vickie & I worked on pruning the roses in the park and got that partially done. We are to have nice weather all week so going to try to get a lot done outside.

Penny, I've never heard of such a thing. Why give a "gift" that you're expecting to get back? I will admit that I have told my parents about a few things that I would like to inherit after their deaths, things like a particular rocking chair that has good memories for me, but I have also made it very clear that I'm much more interested in having my parents than their stuff. I'm really sorry that your family members have done this and made you feel bad about the situation. I hope that they will come to realize how hurtful their demands have been and change their behavior, but then people who do things like that seldom do... emoticon

I've accomplished very little on my days off this week, and absolutely nothing today. That's not really anything terribly new with me but I really had intended to get out and do a couple of things today. I am getting ready to start my tax return in a few minutes so I guess I won't have totally wasted the day. I've got a lot of things to accomplish at work this week so my excuse for being lazy on my days off is that I'm going to be so busy for the rest of the week, but I do wish I could get my act together and accomplish more on my days off.

We're having really nice weather right now. Mid 60s every afternoon and possibly even 70 or 71 a couple of times over the next couple of weeks, and our lows aren't supposed to go below 35 degrees over that same time period. I'm afraid that this may mean that we're going to have a hellishly hot summer so I really need to get my act together and find a new apartment so that I don't have to deal with that without a real air conditioner. I hope that the week is starting out well for the rest of you and that you're all a bit more motivated than I am. Have a great Tuesday. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Oh, Penny, I never heard of such a thing. How awful of them to even suggest that and how brazen to say anything before you are gone. I can surely understand why you and your DH are so upset. Geesh!

I've done everything in my power to ensure that my children know what I do for one I do for the other. They are always telling me I don't have to be so strict, but the outcome is they are on great terms and know I have always been even handed.. Also, they always tell me to spend on myself. Example: When my daughter married, my DH and I paid for the wedding. I kept a detailed account of every penny we spent. My son married exactly 10 years later. I inflated the amount we spent on our daughter by the rise in the CPI over the decade and that's what we gave my son. All the grand kids get the same $ for their birthdays, holidays, graduation, etc. When I die each of my kids get 50% of what is left. God, I hope things go without a hitch.

G.

Haven't been here for awhile but am getting my strength back. Seems like it's taken forever to do it. I've been trying to get rid of a lot of things. Mostly just giving it to those that need/use it.

In the last year I've had 2 friends (?) & family tell me that I should put what ever they've ever given me in my will to be given back to them. I've never heard of this before & it's really upset me! And, in one instance it's really caused a family split. I'd prayed about it & felt that I should just give it back. I talked to DH & he agreed with me as it was a gift given to him a few years before by this person. I did tell the person that he didn't understand what he'd done. No matter. Now I will talk to this person but DH refuse to. DH is a step father. I'm really hurt over this. Besides which I've already given a lot of that stuff away before any of this came up! No one ever said they wanted anything back! Why give it to me if they wanted to keep it to begin with? Now I'd rather they just not give me anything to begin with! And I hate this gulty feeling I get that I diid something wrong! Did I ?

Just got back from a week in Florida with the family on Sunday morning. It was so nice and sunny all the time, but the temps were too cool to go swim at the beach. It sure beat the freezing temps here in WI so I'm not complaining.

Belated Happy Valentines to you all

DG so happy to hear from you and that all is going well and you are getting to enjoy those grandbabies. I know you are loving every minute of it. How wonderful that their mother is going to get to stay home with them. Great that she won't miss a thing as they go thru so many milestones.

We had out Thur. breakfast with 12 in attendance today. Afterwards I had to go to see my podiatrist and this afternoon I got my hair cut. I worked on cleaning files out of my old computer as I want to donate it so need to get it wiped clean before doing that and that took the rest of the day.

Hello Dear Friends!
Nice to get here for a chat again! I have read all the post for Feb and have caught up a bit with you all!

Pat so glad Bill is doing so well. You have done a lot of cleaning.

Gail hope you are having a wonderful time in Florida! Nice of the friend to let your DD use her place.

Val hope you are doing well and hope you find a good apartment close to work soon!

Nan we have gotten some good limes here but have a hard time finding them grown in the USA.

Sandy so sorry to hear about Ex Dh's injury. Hope your hives are in better control now. Hope the insurance is finally paying too.

The babies are growing and doing so well. It is such fun being with them each day. Little brother is walking but not to far yet but it won't be long. He seems to cut teeth in multiples! At the beginning of the week he cut 2 on the bottom. Last week he cut 3 on top so now he has 8. I hope that is it for awhile. He loves his baby sister and gives her so many sweet kisses! Mommy has given her 2 week notice and will be home with them and such a blessing to us all that will be!

Hugs to you all! Hope I won't be gone again for so long! I think of you all often and it is nice to catch up with you and know you are all doing well!

Sandy glad you are going to get a shot to help control things. Hope you get to feeling better soon. Sorry about ex-DH and hope he gets to feeling better soon.

I took DH to see his cardiologist and his gastro doc today. Both gave him good reports. He has to see his cardiologist again in 6 mo but the gastro doc in Apr for another endoscopy. Dr is concerned that he still has bleeding internally. We have to keep tweaking his diet to find out what will work. He also changed how he takes his meds for the stomach so.....have to redo everything when I do his pills. Hard to get them all in as he has wait times between most of them!!

Finally got a hold of the insurance company and they said they would pay. Need to call them again to be sure she got the information. I also got appointment with my allergy Doctor too. I get another shot for the hives on Thursday. I got them under control by increasing the dose of my medication to 4 tables at night instead of 3. The doctor said to take 2 to 3 a night but, the 3 stopped working so I took 4 for a couple of nights and it seem to help it for now. I had missed a shot in January as I got new insurance and we had to start at ground zero again to get me approved again.

So, Ex DH has a 3rd degree sprain. The doctor said it would be better if he had fractured it as it would have healed faster with this it will take 4 months to heal. His work laid him off because of it. And Now he feels bad as he went to so much to get back on track. In the long run it my have been a blessing as he was being give a real hard time there and was working 12 hr days. They were only to work 8 hr days. Poor guy can hardly walk.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Gail hope the weather warms up a bit-cooler here today-57 for our high and to be even cooler tomorrow. Too bad you weren't here while we were in the 80's, everyone was enjoying the pool.

We went to the social clubs breakfast this morning and then to a couple of community yard sales. We got 2 birdhouse, a garden fairy and a snowman for the park. I also got a dressy blouse to wear to church but need to find a pair of dark brown slacks to wear with it.

Good Morning:

Well, today is packing day. I'm going to my daughter's tonight and we will leave early in the morning Sunday for our flight. I took out 9 e-books from the library which I will read on my IPad while away. Pat, thanks for telling me about that.

Last night I resurrected my warm weather stuff and tried everything on. I've got the stuff set aside and except for shoes am good to go. My swim suit is coming apart, so I won't be taking that. I looked at the forecast and the temps are supposed to be 60s-70, so it won't be water weather in any case. Will have to keep my eyes opened for a suit this spring.

Stay safe and warm everyone.

Gail

Nan: Thanks for the candy. As for cards, Euchre is very popular here in Wisconsin, but I never learned to play.

Pat: Terrific that you finished cleaning and decluttering. Way to go!

Computer hutch is empty!!!! Now I have to work on my built in hutch (job for next week since weather isn't supposed to be too good).
I made lunch for friends today and we had a nice visit before and while we ate.
I have spent part of the afternoon trying to learn how to use my new phone-spending time of the computer looking things up and then attempting to do what I have read on the phone. I am determined to not let it "outsmart" me!
Weather is sunny but quite windy and nippy out there. Temperature is about 25 degrees cooler than yesterday and had to give in and turn on the heat.

Gail I am down to one drawer-the clutter drawer and I can't decide what to do with it all!!! I have to finish it tomorrow and then start on the built in hutch in the dining room. Bill & I cleaned 3/4 of the Florida room today-he helped me take out the big sliding windows so I could wash them and we got 3 of them done and I washed down the walls around the windows and steam mopped the floor. Then we managed to get the sofa out there from the living room-what a job but.....it is done.
This afternoon I broke down and ordered new chairs for the living room and they will arrive in about 6 weeks. Looks a bit bare in there now.

Catching up on my recorded TV shows today.

Sandy: Take care dear one.

Nan: Stay warm.

Pat: Did you empty out your computer hutch today, or are you still in the process. It's hard to declutter.

Sandy hope you can get things resolved with the insurance company. If the agent isn't returning your calls, can you call corporate?
I got my computer hutch about half emptied today and plan to finish it up tomorrow. I did more yard work and will keep at it until I get my spring cleanup done. I was busy doing things around here from before 8 till almost 3 and got a lot off my to-do list. I hope to get some of my projects completed before something else crops up to take it's place.

Sleeping a lot and trying to get in to see the doctor for my hives. Now dealing with a migraine. Also dealing with medical bills that were not paid from my accident. The insurance company is not returning my calls now. Or rather the agent isn't. It shows on the bill that it was sent to them but, they never paid them. Did talk with my boss this week and things are better at work.

hope everyone has a great week.

Gail how awesome that you will get to come south for a week-hope we have some nice weather for you-beautiful this week but to cool down towards the weekend and haven't heard how it will be next week yet.

I worked in my yard this afternoon and worked up a sweat. DH had to see his nephrologist this morning and then we went to the farmer's/flea market = I was disappointed as they had no strawberries-this is normally high season but the crazy weather has messed things up-hoping they will have berries soon. I did buy 4 nice sweet potatoes for $1. Vickie picked up 3 bags of peanuts in the shell and I told her I would take 1-she grabbed ones that weren't roasted so I had to do that this evening.

Will be doing some decluttering in the basement today.

Well, ladies, my daughter's friend has a house in Florida and this friend invited my daughter to use it. My daughter, granddaughter and I will be going for a week next Sunday. It will be lovely to get into the warm sunshine for a few days.

I'm still listening to classical music every day, but have moved over a lot to instrumental music. Still so lovely.

Hope this coming week is a very good one for you all.

Nan. Thanks for the tip about freezing citrus fruits. I've recently been putting some fresh lime juice I my water for flavor. Very nice.

Someone mentioned that limes are a dollar each in her area. Where do you live?

And February is time for me to get serious about finding a new apartment. I think there is one available in the complex I want in February, which would take care of my problem, but I'm also going to get out tomorrow to look at a different complex that's closer to work. It's a really large complex so I'd prefer the smaller one I've already looked at once, but I need to at least take a look at it before I make up my mind. I'm going to spend a month moving because doing it over a weekend has nearly killed me in the past. Then once I get into a new place I intend to start paying a LOT more attention to what I eat and get back on track with the weight loss, too.

There was much rejoicing!
