DG so happy your little guy had such a great birthday. I am sure the pics are so cute. At that age they do the darndest things with the cake!

Val have you thought about seeing if you could order the licorice online from the candy store for your dad? I am getting where I use online ordering more and more these days. Just a thought.

Well, I took things into my hands today and we both ended up at Urgent Care. I did call our dr but when they hadn't gotten back to me by 11 I decided we needed to just go and do it. Of course, they had called and he wanted to see us at 2:30 but we were already taken care of. We both have acute bronchitis and on the same meds except I have the methyl-pred pak but Bill can't take it due to his ulcer/bleed. I did call to let the office know we went to urgent care. Hoping we are better in a couple of days-nurse practitioner thought we would be, Actually Bill sounds the worse but I had a slight fever and she said my lungs had more raspy sounds than his! We are to take it easy and stay hydrated.

Hurray my internet is up and running! It was down for awhile today while they updated some things.

We celebrated our precious little guys birthday. It was a Peanut Cartoon theme. Really cute. lots of cake left but hope the kids take it to work! He got a lot of needed winter clothes and some cute toys. He sure is growing up! His Mommy dressed him like Charlie Brown and he had his own football cake. He ate a good portion of it and didn't make too big of a mess but what a bunch of cute pics we got of him!

Pat hope you are feeling better!

Sandy hope you get enough time to rest during this busy season!

Val hope your kitty is fine. Sweet of you to leave her in a kennel. What a shame you don't have a friend that could keep her.

Gail hope you are doing well.

Blessings to you all!

So sorry that you're both feeling so lousy Pat. It does seem to happen at this time of year, but it still stinks. And I think you're doing the right thing by not going out and exposing others to whatever you've got. At work they always say stay home if you're sick, but they don't really mean it. If you miss too many days at work you'll end up with disciplinary action taken against you, but at least they pay lip service to staying at home when you're sick and not giving whatever you've got to other people. I work in a hospital, for goodness sake! I shouldn't be going to work when I'm sick and risking giving whatever I've got to both my coworkers and OUR PATIENTS! And yet so many people do come to work sick because we're all afraid of getting in trouble for calling in sick...

I'm really tired today. I was planning on trying to sleep most of the day because I haven't been sleeping well recently, but I need to be able to get so sleep tonight so I can get up tomorrow and try to get my kitty in to see the vet. I think her little infected paw has gotten a lot better, but I want the vet to check it out and decide whether or not she needs to take some antibiotics to be sure to clear up the infection. She also needs to get her shots so that I can leave her in a kennel while I'm out of town for 5 days at Christmas. When I had 2 cats I would just leave them here by themselves, but i don't want to leave poor Cali all alone for 5 days because I know she wouldn't like that at all.

Other than taking the cat to the vet, the only thing I need to do tomorrow (other than laundry) is stop by
Sprouts and see if I can find some decent black licorice to give my dad for Christmas. There used to be a candy shop called Senor Murphy's in the main mall here that had 8 or 10 different varieties of licorice and I'd always get him a little bit of each kind every year for Christmas. Now that store is only in Santa Fe, and I'm just not going to drive 60 miles to buy licorice! Not even for my Daddy. I think there's another candy store in the same mall where I was able to get licorice for him one year, but they didn't have as many types and I really, really hate going to the mall, especially at this time of the year. but maybe if I go early enough in the day...

I hope the week starts out well for the rest of you. Stay warm (we're getting down below freezing at night these days) and be well.

There was much rejoicing!

We opted to stay home and not spread our germs at church this morning. I hate it when people come and are coughing so didn't want to be THAT PERSON! We had planned to sleep in but our MO friends who are renting the house Vickie & I cleaned called about 7:45 to tell us they were in Atlanta and they have since arrived and I got them into the house and back home. I showed them around it a bit but didn't linger-one didn't want to be out in the evening air and two didn't want to spread the "crud".
If we continue to cough like this, I guess we will go to see our dr or if we can't get in, the walk-in clinic by the hospital.

Hello Friends!!
Pat how wonderful you and Bill have been married 25 yrs!! Congratulations!! Wow!! What an accomplishment!!

Sandy hope you had a great Thanksgiving too!! I kept thinking about you all day today. I hope you get some rest between now and New Years!!

Gail so glad you had such a wonderful Thanksgiving! Thanks for the best wishes for my Grandson. He had such a fun party this year. My Ddil came up with the cutest party ideas and decorations. She and my DD worked so hard on them and they were so cute. I will email you some pics.

Pat sorry to hear you have colds again. They sure seem to be going around. Ddil and her Mom both had colds. Please take care. It is what my young friend died from. Went to pneumonia and she isn't the only one, another friend said her husband's boss's wife died from the same thing. Went into pneumonia very quickly and she died before they could treat it.

Good Night all! I think I will post more regularly now. LOL DD and a friend from church are practicing Christmas music and hope to make a CD to put in Christmas cards. Doesn't sound like it should involve me but it does. She practices 2 hrs each day and if the little guy isn't sleeping ... you get the idea! ;-) It's what makes our family tick ... all working together. It works and we are all happy.

May you all be blessed with love and laughter and making memories that will last the rest of your lives!

Gail so happy your family all made it. Sounds like a wonderful time. Those are the best blessings we can have-making happy memories with our families.

Bill & I are both battling colds again. This is unusual for us-we didn't have a single one last winter but this is 2nd one already. Sure hoping this isn't a sign of more to come!

Beautiful weather here-79 this afternoon. I had set it up with Vickie to work in the park this morning so forced myself to get out for a couple of hours but that did me in for the rest of the day. We got all the fall decorations down and put away and did a bit of weeding and trimming. Normally we have the fall planting done by now and haven't even started.

Pat: Happy 25th. Its a milestone and I'm so glad you and Bill are so happy.

DG: Hoppy Birthday to your grandson!

I had just about the very best Thanksgiving ever. There were 9 of us: my son and daughter and their families and my sil's mother. They played games and were laughing so much. I was just too tired to play too, but it did my heart good to hear them have so much fun. Wonderful when everyone gets on so well.

Recuperating today now that they've left. LOL Tomorrow I'll start to label and freeze the leftovers. Made turkey vegetable soup today and did 4-5 loads of laundry...I lost count.

Will do another load tomorrow and get the house cleaned.

Happiness to all of you.

Gail

Morning Friends,
Busy day today getting ready for tomorrow. DS got an antenna for our tv so we can watch Thanksgiving Day parades tomorrow. He is going to cut firewood this afternoon. I am so blessed! Can't wait to smell pies baking and hear the noise, hustle and bustle of a family home for Thanksgiving!

Hello Dear Friends, I am sorry I have been gone so long. It has been a week! The memorial service or my young friend was very sweet and saw so many folks I haven't seen in such a long time.
We have celebrated my little Grandson's birthday. He loved the ribbon as much as the gifts. LOL

Pat hope Bill's surgery and your laser foot procedure turned out well. How fun to make up a box of things that the grandchildren would love. You are right it is easier to find nice girls clothing. DD and I found some great things at a children's consignment store.
Hope Abbie's eyes are better. I hear you on the fix up and maintenance and then folks still expect their home to see at top dollar. It is sad.

Gail did you get snow. Hard to believe it is that time of year already. But true we used to have snow a lot at Thanksgiving time when I was a kid.
Isn't postage awful! I try not to send things either. Just crazy! A friend sent clothes by Greyhound and they got lost. She was going to college. They wouldn't reimburse her as she didn't have the original receipts and much of the things were new that her Grandma had made. So sad.

Sandy so glad you didn't have to sell the business at such a low price. A lot of folks here put serious buyers only on their adds. Now I know why.

Val hope you had a good "weekend".

Hope Everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! I hope to be back but it is still a very busy week here. Thanksgiving at my house and am looking to have the family all around.

I am happy to say that the clothing is now on it's way to MT. I do hope the kiddos like my choices. I guess I will find out next week!!! I went with FedEx ground as they were over $30 cheaper than USPS and $20 less than UPS. Sad when it costs one so much to send anything anymore. I spent about as much on shipping as I did buying the clothes. However it was several hundred dollars worth if I had purchased them new. The one Nascar coat for the boys was over $100 new!
DH & I have been cleaning house today also. Even thought I am not cooking will have company in tomorrow and Thur so thought I best get on the vacuuming and dusting!! I pick up every day but the dust comes no matter what one does. I truly do not know how we can gather up so much on the floor either as we take our shoes off before coming in the house but still sand walks in and Abbie brings in small pieces of grass, etc in her hair.
I worked on cleaning out leftovers today but DH wanted Chinese so stopped and got him takeout when we went to mail the package. I also picked up a faucet for Phyllis's house and still need to get a new toilet. I have a handyman who will install these and then I will send her the bill. As if I didn't have enough to do but since she is in WY I am trying to take care of things for her before our friends arrive next week. Sad that some people do not see the need to do some updates and preventative maint. to their homes. I know this is why her home isn't selling as it truly needs some updating and a good coat of pain!

Sandy do hope the 3 of you have a nice Thanksgiving. Sorry your Aunt won't come but I imagine she feels that would show support of ex-DH. Hopefully things will all work out and after the holidays you can get the business sold.

We woke to the coolest weather of the season-only 44 this morning when we got up. I had to get up and put a blanket on the bed and shut the window during the night. Another cool morning tomorrow and then we are to warm back up and be in the 80's by the weekend.

Took DH to get his hearing aides "tuned up" since they didn't have the computer to do it when we went on Fri. Not too happy as it is a 30 min drive (about 15 mi) from where we live) but he is hearing better so guess it was worth the trip.

Abbie's eyes have been tearing a lot and it is turning her hair dark brown so I went to PetCo to get some eye wipes this afternoon. I also got my free gift from Bath & Body-a $13 gift of my choice so now have some sweet smelling shower jel. I love the coupons they send out every so often.

I bought some of the vac pac bags and have started bagging things to send to our MT kids. I think it is going to fit in a much smaller box since I did this but still going to be heavy. One pkg weighed 9 lbs and the other one 8. I am not done yet but looks like it will be about 40 lbs. I hope to get it mailed later this week so it won't be in the holiday rush.

Thank you everyone. I am going to deal with all of after the holidays with the business.
My son and ex-DH and I are having Thanksgiving together. My Aunt won't come. Plus I have to be up at 5:30 am the next day for a 12 hr shift.

We are expecting snow in the low lands tomorrow morning. It will be our first snow here of the season. The Mountains have been getting a lot of snow to the point that some are already open for business. Which is better than last year.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Sandy do hope that things level off for you soon. We know how hard it can be selling a business. Sending good luck thoughts to you on that.

Gail with 7 kids to feed and clothe, I figure Grandma can bite the bullet and send the clothing-I have been checking and using FedEx ground will cost me about $50 for 40 lbs and I don't think it is that heavy. I have several hundred dollars worth of clothing had I paid full price but I have spent less than $20. Can you believe 3 pr of jeans/caballa pants for only $1. Folks just want to get rid of things at yard sales! Most items I pay 50 cents to $1 for and I am picky-they have to look good or I don't buy them. A friend gave me several pr of capri pants that got too big for her so that was a plus and Bill is donating his Nascar coat that has gotten too small-I know the older grandson will love it-Grandpa gave him his Toyota cap and then the younger boy felt left out so he got the other one! Had to buy Bill a new cap for the trip!! I do send gift cards for presents and let them purchase what they want because of the postage.

We are much cooler tonite. The temperature has been falling this afternoon and we have been able to turn off the a/c. We were told the high tomorrow will only be 65 now. BRRR!

Sandy: You seem to forever be on a roller coaster. Hope things settle down very soon.

Pat: I once bought my son and his wife a huge beautiful oversized platter by Fitz and Floyd that I found on clearance at Sams. There were only two left so they were down to rock bottom price. When I went to send it It was something like $72. I was floored. Never again. That's another reason I now only send $.

Val: I'm so glad you are enjoying your job more. That is so important. Will you be working Thanksgiving?

Holy Samoli! It's 12F and we are expecting a high of 25 today. I'm not going anywhere. The good news it's supposed to be a sunny day.

Stay warm and safe everyone.

Well my work week is finally over and I can sleep as last as I want tomorrow. emoticon Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to watch the last NASCAR race of the year and hopefully my driver will end up winning the championship one more time before he retires. (Tomorrow will be his last race.) Then I'm going to do laundry in the afternoon and evening and start fasting around midnight. On Monday I have to go get my blood drawn to determine whether or not I'll get any kind of healthy person discount on my health insurance costs next year. I won't pass on my weight or my waist circumference but if I pass on 3 of the 5 or 6 things I can get the discount. Now that I'm back on all of my blood pressure medications I should be able to pass that one, and my fasting blood glucose and triglyceride level are generally pretty good. I think it's triglyceride they want me to pass, but it could be cholesterol. I'm generally pretty good on my total cholesterol but my HDL cholesterol is usually a bit lower than it should be. Anyway, I'm hoping that I'll be able to pass 3 of the things because health insurance is really expensive these days and I'd like to be able to get any discounts they have available.

After the blood draw on Monday I'm going to take my car to the dealership to get an oil change, have my low tire pressure checked out and get new windshield wiper blades. Then to Sprouts for groceries and back home to get ready for the start of my new work week on Tuesday. Work has been so much nicer for me since I finally got retrained to work in the blood bank. That's the first department I ever trained in and it has always been one of my favorites, so now I've got two good departments and only one bad one. Much more enjoyable than when I only had one good department and I had to work in my bad department most of the time because we kept hiring new people and training them in my good department first.

I hope that you're all having a wonderful weekend. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Well, I woke this morning to 27 degrees and frost. I am thankful that my car is in the garage. I was to be at work at 5am today but, got a call last night saying not to come in till 6am as there was a manager change. And they would not be in till 6am. I was to get off at one but, stayed till 2pm and made up my hour that I lost. Plus we were super busy and the 2pm person was late coming in. It back to work tomorrow at 6am.

Oh, the guy that I had working for me quit on Friday with no notice. Then I got a call from our storage unit informing me that he lost our Lock to our storage unit and they had to put a temporary one on. That cost me $ 22.00. I charged him $ 35.00, call it stupidest charge for him. As he didn't tell us. We had to hear it from our Storage unit people that I am in good standing with. They said he came back asking if anyone turned in a set of keys and a lock. hen went up and down the street in front of the storage place looking for the keys. He never told the girl who he was . They figured it out as our unit was the only one without a lock and they asked him if it was for Unit 8699 and he said yes. I am now he is gone. I did get another guy that has helped us before that has just lost his got that he went to after he worked for us. So, he is going to help us out till I sell it. Oh, the guy that I thought wanted to buy the business really didn't. He was only offer me $ 5,000 just to take it off my hands to help me out. That kind of help I don't need. So, know I am going to go through a broker to sell it. As, that is going to be the only way to go.

Hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend. I know that I will.

Sad thing is the postage is going to cost me more than the clothes!! I have gotten some very nice things for them and hoping it all fits. I know my friend's GD loves Justice clothing and I got a pr of jeans and a pr of shorts in that brand. I got things for everyone but more for the older girls as those clothes are easier to find where they still look like new.

Thank you Gail I guess you are getting some snow today??? It looks like the Midwest is getting quite a storm this weekend. We are overcast and expecting rain anytime.
Bill is doing much better today. We went to a community yard sale and picked up a couple of things for the park and I got 3 pr of slacks for the grandkids for $1! This coming week I have to mail things to them that I have already collected. One of the pants was a pair of Cabala lightweight pants with the zip off legs. I am sure the one grandson will love them.

Good evening dear friends. Quite a day for us-thought Bill was going to end up in the ER but all ended well. We were up at 5 am and I had him at the surgery center by 6:15. They got him in to prep by 6:40 but dr was late so he didn't have the procedure till almost 8:30!!! We could have slept another hour at least!!!
Dr said the actual procedure went well - he has an ulcer and the dr saw something strange-had never seen anything like it in all his years of practice. He has what looks like poppy seeds in his duodenum, He took biopsies of this and now have to wait to find out what it is. We got to see him in 2 wks for a followup. The problem started after the procedure-the gas they use was caught since they did both a endoscopy and colonoscopy and nothing seemed to work for almost 30 min and they thought they were going to have to send him to the ER for an x-ray but finally-GAS! We didn't leave the surgery center till after 10 and originally dr had said we would be done by 8!!! I was so happy it all worked out-really scared me when he couldn't even stand to have his tummy touched. I was afraid something had been perforated.
We both took a nap when we got home! Didn't get to sleep too long as he had an appt. to have his hearing aides looked at at 1:30 so by 1 we were on our way to that. (This was made before we knew about this procedure and would have rescheduled but neither one was working and he could barely hear a thing!!)
He is feeling fairly good tonight and I am very thankful for that and he can hear again!!

Sandy Great that you and your aunt got together.

Will be an early day tomorrow as Bill is 1st one in at the surgery center so we have to be there at 6:30. Poor guy is doing his prep now and not enjoying it. I went by myself to get my toes zapped today and podiatrist really worked me over-snipped off a lot of the "bad" nail and ground down the nail on 2 toes in hopes the laser would be able to do the job even better without that nail on there. Toes are a bit sore this evening-with just the laser it hasn't bothered me before.

Hi Friends,
Pat it is so true, that it is sad to die alone. I know my Dear friend (the Mom) aches that her DD died alone. Had she just gone to the Dr sooner. She even could have gone to her brother's house for them to care for her, they just live a few minutes apart but she just didn't think she was that sick. I am sure the DD's son is so sad she died alone too. It will be hard on him, he was very close to his Mom and he is only 25 and not married. Thankfully he is very close to his Grandma too!!

Sandy so glad your visit with your Aunt was a good one!

Hope you all have a great Thursday!

My Aunt and I got together today and had a really nice day. We went to a new place . They took an school and turn the area into a Hotel with a theater and restaurants and gift shop and bar& Grill. It was develop by two brothers that take old builds and turn them into great places. They brew their owe beer and Whiskey. I don't like whiskey but, this whiskey is really smooth with no bite. We had a great time.

I have to be at work at 8:30am tomorrow so it is off to bed for me. Hope everyone has a good night.

Gail, the kids didn't have the great credit rating we did so could not buy new appliances in bulk, they got to keep our accounts and most stayed with them but everyone always thinks they can manage things better and it didn't work out so good! We knew they could not get a loan to buy it from us so we set it up for them to pay us off over 10 yrs and they did pay us all we asked - they just got part of their inheritance early! They sold it to someone else and they weren't as lucky, that person didn't finish paying them off before going bankrupt so...they didn't fare too well.
Finished cleaning our friend's house today. Had a bit of excitement when the bathroom door locked and we could not get it open-Sonny ended up getting the door open and he replaced the lockset. After we got done this afternoon, Vickie & I had to go pick up medicine (she had a script and I had to get the stuff for Bill's cleanout tomorrow) and we both needed some groceries so by the time I got to finally sit down because I had to cook supper after shopping it was after 6 and do my feet hurt tonight.
DG so sorry about your friend. Like our neighbor, passing away alone is sad.

Hello Dear Friends,
Sorry I missed being here yesterday. I learned late Sunday night that a long time friend passed away. She was just 45 yrs old. She lived alone as her DS has already graduated from college and doesn't live in the area. She had pneumonia and died alone. Her Mom lives about 3 yrs east of us. But not even sure she is in the States again yet. She went to Europe for the funeral of a long time friend of hers. It is all so very sad. I baby sat for the daughter when she was just 3 yrs old. She babysat for my children and we have known one another for the 43 yrs we have lived here.

Gail glad you are feeling better. Sounds like the stomach bug I had. Sure was a miserable one. Hope you are feeling much better soon. So sorry you took such a loss on Vic's things. It is so hard but proud of you for letting things go so you could move on and enjoy your home as you want to do.
Donating items even if you can write them off on taxes give you even less.

Sandy glad you got a settlement. Are you feeling better? Hope you can sell the business at the better price.

Pat sorry it is such a project cleaning for your friends to come. Geikos I wouldn't mind but mice!! Geikos take care of roaches and that is a pure benefit in my mind. ;-)
Hoping the tests for Bill show all is well.

Trying to get more done today. Hope you all have a good day!

Sandy: So sorry for what you are going through with selling the business. I know all too well what it's like to get pennies on the dollar. Of Vic's things that I did not donate, I got a small fraction of their value. A lot has to do with the economy and the market in your area. I recently let Vic's 6'2" German Steinway go for $15,000. The dealer bought it from me at that price since it hadn't sold in 3 years. The dealer estimated the value at $60,000-70,000 when he first took it on consignment. We spent $26,000 on it about 6 years ago to have it fully restored, so I was bummed out. That said, I need to be realistic; the average person doesn't have that sort of discretionary money to spend on a non essential. Also, the market in my town of under 300,000 people doesn't have that many professional musicians, and those that are here already have their instruments.

Pat: How is it you sold the business to your kids well below market value, but they took 10 years to pay it off? Did they run the business into the ground, did the market change, were there other personal expenses that drained their profits? It is very hard to make a go of a small business. Perhaps they underestimated the profits they would realize.

Sandy do hope you can get what you want out of the business. Selling can be tricky-our kids bought our appliance business and took 10 years to pay us off. It worked out but we sold it to them for a LOT less than we could have gotten otherwise.
Busy day here-spent the morning cleaning our friend's house getting ready for our MO friends who will arrive Dec 1. She now lives in WY (lady we visited this summer) and we didn't realize how much work it is going to take to get it ready. Mice and gekko's invaded the place so....not enjoying this. Thought we would just be running a vacuum and dusting. I got bug bombs for it this afternoon. Hoping that helps things.
Took Bill to the gastro doc and he thinks this is a flare of radiation prostitis from his cancer treatment - however could be other things too so now Bill is scheduled for a colonoscopy and endoscopy on Fri. Thur was already a busy day and now he has to prepare for that too!

It is really cold here and we are having a good soaking of rain. We have winds blowing at about 60 mph. I am so glad that I went to the store on Sunday. I fixed a roast last night. So I have left overs. My son stop by last night and picked up the extra blanket. Told him that Santa may bring him something for Christmas for don't go running out and spending his money that he needs for rent and bills.

I got the final money for pain and suffering from the insurance company of the guy that hit me. I negotiated and got $ 2750.00 plus them pay all my Medical bills. The business offer was for $ 3,000.00 ( that is 10% of what the business makes for 1 yr) plus $ 25.00 for each good post. I wrote him back and told him I was look for a Flat rate. And what I was looking for was $ 45,000.00. I have not heard from him yet. I just sent it to him yesterday. So, we will see how that goes. It is less than what I bought the business for. He doesn't want the truck. So, I will sell that but, pay it off first.

I hope that everyone has a great day.

So far I've gone OK for 2 days. Am staying in until I feel sufficiently confident....

Sandy: What a great gift. Two of my friends who happen to be sisters (not nuns) are very dear to me. At one point or another I get them bed linens. One year I bought my friend a pillow. She said it was the best gift she ever got. Your son will love it.

Just got out of the shower and need to get dressed. Will stop by laters.

I hate to think about Christmas cards. I haven't done well with it since the last Christmas DH helped me address them all. I have to make sure all his friends know he is gone. We still stay in touch with many of his college buddies.

Sandy glad your DSS got to see his Dad too.

Pat hope you get some rest today. Enjoy dinner at Olive Garden. My Sister's Grand daughter calls it the Olik Garden. ;-)

Time for dinner! Late tonight as DS and Ddil had to work late. A very busy time of year for them.

I am sure your son will appreciate the gift of a new comforter for Christmas. I have been getting my gift cards all ready so I can send out early in Dec and then the kids/grandkids/great grandkids will be able to get what they want. I want to start on the items I will make and need to get busy on my cards. So much to do and not enough time!

Got a phone call from my son and his comforter finally fell apart. So am giving him a blanket for know that will keep him warm. Will buy him a new comforter for Christmas.

Hope everyone is having a great day.

It is such a sad state of affairs this world we live in and I fear it will soon be coming to the US. Evil with no care about the innocents they wreak havoc on. Feel so sorry for all affected by this latest terror siege. As DG said, so happy we have our Lord to hold our hand thru all of this.

I had my appointment to get my eyes checked this morning and my pressure is remaining stable at 12. Dr. was happy with that and now I am on a schedule of every 4 mo. getting it checked. My eyes still feel "gritty" since they put in drops and touched and prodded them. May see if I can find the Visine to see if that helps!
I called the gastro doc and he will get Bill in late tomorrow. I will feel better if he reviews things and tells us all is well and if not, then we need to get it checked out.

We hold a monthly birthday/anniversary dinner and that is this evening. It will be at Olive Garden so not a lot of time today-did get 2 loads of laundry done. I am still tired from not enough sleep on Sun so maybe I can squeeze in a power nap!!

Good Morning! It is another dreary Monday here but we were able to sleep in and that was nice. DGS is learning and notices everything. We have a toy turtle in his room that lights and has stars and a moon cut out of his shell. He pointed to the turtle this morning so I turned it on. He was so intrigued. It was cute. Then I gave him his bottle and he just laid there and stared at the lights on the ceiling. DD turned on the color light changes and he was even more intrigued. So cute to watch the world open before him!!

Pat I am so sorry you had to be part of finding the neighbor and telling her daughter. Such a tough place to be in. Where does the daughter live?
You had a busy day yesterday. So glad Bill is feeling better and hoping there are no other issues for him for a long while!

Sandy glad you got a visit with your DSS. Was his Dad there too or just you? Hope he is doing well on his own and is finding the good path. Agree with your, my heart is in Paris and Lebanon and around the world where there is unrest and chaos. So glad Jesus gives us Peace if we ask for it!!

Hope you all have a good week!! Hard to believe next week is Thanksgiving!!

Gail how wonderful you have a timebank - I don't know of anything like that around here but we try to help those in our own community. You are so right about how hard it is when one is ill. When DH #1 was ill (9 yrs) I had to work to support us and had 2 young sons and was trying to get my degree so I could earn more so I sometimes wonder how I survived but I did. I am thankful for friends who made it possible for me to work-like one who took him to outpatient therapy after his amputation so I didn't have to miss work and meals. So much to be thankful for over the years with him and now Bill but like you I try to pay it forward as much as I can.

Beautiful weather here in Fl. Another day in the upper 70's. We have been waiting for days like this to happen. Hopefully this weather will hang in here thru the end of the year.

Bill scared me last night with a bright red bloody stool right before we went to bed. Hence I didn't sleep well thinking he might have an issue and not wake me up so it was almost 5 am before I finally fell asleep and I was up by 8:30 so a little tired this evening. I am praying it was just a hemorrhoid that ruptured due to all the diarrhea but will call his gastro doc on Mon about this. He has been fine since then. (Knew I should not have said we had a good day!) Had a full day today so not much rest. I baked cookies before we went to church this morning for the Veteran's Day program held at our clubhouse this afternoon as I had signed up to do that and was too tired last night after everyone left. I got them done just as it was time to head to church. The last few were still on the cookie sheet as we left!!

We stopped at Publix after church and I bought chicken for our dinner. I wanted to get one of their gas cards-if you spent $50 you got $10 off of a $50 card so a 20% savings is worth it and I got the sale items. Bill was hungry for chicken wings and I got a breast for myself. I made mashed potatoes and green beans to go with the chicken so had a nice dinner that didn't take too long to get ready.

By the time we got done with lunch, I got the cookies onto plates and besides what we took for the ceremony, I made plates for Barb (lady who took care of Abbie for us while we were gone) and for Bob & Bert (she broke her ankle & is just home from rehab). I really did appreciate all that was done for us when Bill broke his hip so hopefully paying it forward. The sermon today was talking to us about giving-not always is it in terms of money but in other ways we can help others and I figure this is something I can do to help out.

We went to the ceremony about 2:45 and it was after 4 when we got back home. They had a nice turnout and a lady came to talk about the honor flights for vets. It originates out of The Villages but is eligible to any veteran and they are taking applications. It is quite impressive what they do for the vets and I hope some of our veterans get to take advantage of this. They are just starting on the Korean Vets (had been doing WW II as they are almost all gone) and will consider Vietnam veterans but they try to take the oldest ones 1st. Sometimes you are on a wait list for a couple of years as they only do 4 flights a year and then 1-2 ceremonies locally for those who aren't able to go to DC. It is a long day-they leave The Villages at 1 am and get back about midnight!

Well, just had a bit of excitement-our neighbor's daughter called as she could not reach her mother and Bill went to try to get her to answer her door and nothing so we went and got our board president and he got another board member and they got the key from the office and when we went in we found her dead on the floor in her dining room. I had to call the daughter back to tell her and now we have an ambulance, a firetruck and 2 policemen here! Sad to lose her like this. The daughter and her husband live near Orlando so will take them about an hour to get here. They are the couple who bought our little Rialto.

Well, best run as we have to go soon to pick up Vickie & Sonny at the airport.

Happy Sunday Everyone!
I had a busy but productive day yesterday. Am thinking about taking a nap today. ;-)

Pat so glad to hear you and Bill are feeling well and he feels better than he has felt in a long while!! ;-)
Cards and out to lunch sound like fun!

Gail you are right if one has to live in fear it isn't really living.
Thank you for the cooking you did for that couple. It is very hard to be sick and be caregiver and do all that needs to be done at home. When my family cared for my DFil and My parents we had 2 children at home plus DH and I. We had lots of hands to get things done and still have a volunteer come once a week. She mostly visited with my parents and gave them some diversion. She became a friend and still we are in touch. When DH was sick we still had 2 children at home and DS and Ddil lived close and came to help. He was really only sick for 2 weeks with the last one being in bed. But it is so tiring and emotionally draining, besides the expense. We had to have hospice so DH could be at home where he wanted to be. We didn't need things they offered just the professional to say things were on the up and up and sign the death certificate.

I am sure Vic's last days are not happy memories for you either, but I am glad we both had support and were cared for!

Sandy hope you can manage to get enough sleep while you are working such an odd schedule!

Hope you all have a great Evening!

Val: It was just pay back time for me. When Vic was ill he went for chemo 10 times a month. In addition to constant medical/dental appointments during the month, on days when he had chemo we would spend 3-5 hours in the hospital. When he had a transfusion we spent 7-11 hours at the hospital.. You can imagine what a drain that was. Vic's coworkers brought dinner for us 10 times a month; What a blessing. I couldn't have done it without them. Also, I found when he was ill, though we had the very best insurance..no copays or deductibles...we still spent $400-$600/month more. It's expensive to be ill. During Vic's illness the TB was WONDERFUL. For 3 1/2 years I had volunteers who came every week to help me clean and sanitize the house. Can you imagine? Cooking a few meals for someone who needs help is a drop in the bucket compared to what I received. I could never repay this community in kind.

Gail, you are so sweet and so very understanding. It truly is very costly in more ways than just financial to be chronically ill. I feel very fortunate that I'm still able to work and do things for myself, but it hasn't always been this way for me since my MS was first diagnosed. Luckily I had people helping me when I was too sick to work or to clean and cook. Thank you for being willing to help these people you don't even really know. I'm sure they feel blessed and extremely thankful that someone is willing to help them out.

I'm very thankful that my work week is finally over. Today (Sunday) I'm going to relax, watch a NASCAR race, and probably nap a lot. Then on Monday I have to take my car in for service and then go to the grocery. I'm also going to try to work in seeing at least one apartment complex that I might like to move to. I don't know what's up with Cali Cat tonight. She's sitting on my desk and she's got a bit of gas going on. I know this happens to cats sometimes and I'm wondering if she ate something she shouldn't have eaten? Did I drop something on the floor and forget to pick it up? She's generally a healthy little stinker, but tonight she's just a stinker. I hope she's okay...

Anyway, I'm suddenly realizing that I'm pretty tired and this post has taken me a really long time to type. I think it's time to shut down for the night. Hope you're all having a fantastic weekend. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Good Evening:

So sad about the Paris attacks. Hope Russia, US, UK, France, Germany etc. get together and put forth a concerted effort to contain ISIS. Living in constant fear is not living.

I'm back working for the community with the TimeBank. This past week I helped two people with decluttering, and yesterday and today I cooked 3 meals for two people in medical crisis.
When you cook for someone in the TB you get reimbursed for food and your "payment" is your time. Well, my offer was to prepare food at my expense and just get reimbursed for time. The people I dealt with were incapable of doing for themselves. They get meals on wheels, for which they have to pay, but it's not enough. How can they make someone who is on SSID pay; they are given a sum whereby it's not enough to live and it's not enough to die.

I fixed tuna salad, 2 quarts of split pea and ham soup, and chicken stew with vegetables. For dessert I brought a 3 lb bag of apples and a large sack of grapes. The woman adores cinnamon, so I brought her a small sack of pure cinnamon, no sugar added. I was happy to do this recalling how hard it was to prepare anything after spending hours and hours with Vic in the hospital. She wanted to give me some money but of course I refused. It's very expensive to be ill, financially, emotionally, and physically.

Thanks everyone-we both seem to be ok today. I was ok by afternoon yesterday but DH had an issue till about 3 am. He slept in this morning and said he has felt better today than in quite awhile.
Friends came over near lunchtime and we played cards and went out to eat. It was an awesome day - high of about 77 so we could play cards out in the Florida room. Actually had to close the windows as it got chilly! I do hope we get to enjoy some fall weather before the cold stuff arrives. They are predicting we will have a rough winter-more severe storms and wetter than normal.

Val - I hope you are able to get in and see the doctor sooner so you can get your BP under control.

Pat - I hope you feel better soon. Some times after a trip your immune system can be low do to all the time changes. So, please take care and don't over do it.

Gail - Hope that all is well with you and that you are still getting out with friends.

DG - You sound busy as always.

Lynn - Always nice to have you in our group posting. How is your weather doing? Know you having been having some crazy weather.

I slept in till 11am even with the contraction going on. I have been relaxing most of the day. I have done some laundry and some cleaning. But, have gotten most of my phone calls done today.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Good afternoon all-seems I have picked up a bug and thinking that may be what DH has since he continues to have issues. Glad we have 2 bathrooms! I haven't accomplished much today but guess that is ok.

Our weather is much cooler today-we have turned off the a/c and opened the windows. We haven't been able to do that in ages.

Hello Friends!
It has been a busy morning here. Nice to get so many things done. I have so much more to do but a little at a time is a progress!! There is always the usual house cleaning, laundry and dishes to be done. I chose not to have a dishwasher when it was just DH and I and our daughter at home. But now I sure miss it! But not enough to take out the new cabinet that took it's place. ;-)

Pat, he is almost a year and will walk when someone holds his fingers or around the coffee table if he holds on. It won't be long. He still likes the pack and play for playing and I am thankful. It is too easy for my large dog to trample him. Safety is a good thing and I don't have to stay in the same room or follow him where ever he decides to crawl. ;-)
I think he will like the new baby. There will still be plenty of arms here to hold him and look after his needs/desires as well as the baby. He loves other little ones around so in no time I think they will have a lot of fun together. ;-)

Val glad you have a plan. Sounds like a good one! The new Dr needs to know you need your medications, obviously. It is cooler here too but not down to freezing yet. I have my Christmas Cactus plant out front. I need it to bud then I can bring it inside unless it freezes first.

Gail hope you feel much better today. You are wise to take it easy on the food. Sorry you fell! Hope you hurt less today! Sweet of you to take your friend to the Dr. Hope you make it to the grocery store today.

Going out to dinner with friends tonight. We have a group that goes out to dinner once a month together. It is nice and we try different restaurants. Tonight is is Japanes Hibachi .. I already know what I want and *no* it is *not* sushi!! LOL

Hope Everyone has a great Friday and a marvelous weekend!

Good Morning:

I was a little queasy yesterday but managed to take a friend to the doctor. The cramps were gone by yesterday, but I'm still going easy on the stomach. It took three hours yesterday before I got home and I was too tired to run errands. Today I'm helping a friend for an hour and hope to run to Aldi's.

In my haste yesterday I slid on my tile floor in the foyer and landed in a funny way. I watched the inside of my knee and ...OOOOOO. I had to take ibuprofen yesterday afternoon and again during the night. Nothing is broken but I think I bruise my cartilage. Anyway, it's much better this morning and I'll go for another does of ibuprofen before I leave the house.

Been enjoying Elizabeth George mysteries and hope to get back to it today.

I'm going to wait till the middle or end of next week and then call my new doctor's office if I haven't heard from them. I'll just say that I went to the urgent care to get my prescriptions refilled and the PA I saw was going to try to expedite things so that I could get in to see the doctor sooner...did that ever happen? And if they can't find a way to get me in sooner then I'll just go back to the urgent care early next month to get more refills. The good news is that while the upper number of my blood pressure is still hanging out a little higher than I'd like it to be, the bottom number has made it back down to where it's supposed to be. emoticon Progress.

We've been getting down below freezing at night recently...and I don't really like it. Makes my bones ache. I know that a lot of you have it worse than we do, but I'm just not used to this and I hope it gets back to being warmer soon. In the meantime, I'd better take a quick look at my other emails and then get to bed. I hope that you all have plans for a fabulous weekend. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Val do hope that you can get in sooner to see the new primary. I know just going to the dr is a pain but......something we must do.

Gail do hope you are feeling better and it was just a brief virus. DH can sure sympathize-he goes thru this at least once a week.

DG sounds like a nice walk and I am sure the little one loves to get out. Is he walking yet? I forget exactly how old he is. Wonder how he is going to feel about the new baby. My cousin's DD just had twins and they have a 3 yr old who is ecstatic that he is no longer the baby!

I had my dental cleaning today so glad to have that over with for another 4 months. Next week I see the eye dr. We have 2-3 appointments each week till Christmas!!!

Happy Thursday, Everyone!!

Lynn Good to see you post! Hope you come back often!

Pat I don't get invited to that many parties and knowing Ddil as I do, I knew she'd enjoy us coming just for the fellowship.
How sweet of you to fix meals when folks are down. It does help so much.

Val sure hope you can get into your new Dr before next month.

Gail so sorry you had a stomach bug or did you eat something that upset your tummy? I am hoping isn't a virus that takes awhile to get over. Hope you get your errands run.

DD and I took DGS for a walk and we got a good 2 miles. We picked up some pretty, giant, Burr Oak acorns. They will look nice on our Thanksgiving table. ;-)

Hugs to you all!

Sorry I've been MIA but two nights ago I was up constantly going from bed to toilet. I never had stomach cramps before and it was awful. (I had my appendix out years ago so I wasn't worried on that score.) Anyway, yesterday I just took ti VERY easy and I got a good night's sleep last night. I'm all right today, right enough to take a friend to her doctor's appointment. Its a gloomy day here so as long as I'm out I'll run some errands.

GS.

Pat, of course I didn't take offense. I know that you guys all care about me, and I know that it was supremely stupid to allow myself to run out of 2 of my 3 medications. My pressure hasn't quite gotten back down to where it needs to be, but that has always taken a little time when I've started a new med. It will be fine in a week or two. The PA I saw in the urgent care said that he's going to call my new primary care to see about expediting things so that I can see her sooner than the end of January. if I can't then I'll have to go back to the urgent care in a month to get my prescriptions filled again, and that would be a big pain in the butt...

My computer is acting bad so I'm going to have to end this here for now. I hope the week is going really well for all of you.

There was much rejoicing!

DG Glad you didn't feel pressured to buy some jewelry you didn't really want. I hate to go to parties like that for that reason. Luckily no one in here seems to host them so that is a good thing.
Val I am happy you didn't take offense to my lecture. I did it out of concern for you. I would hope if I am doing something not good for me that all of you would straighten me out. I lean on all of you for support and hope you get the same from me.
We had our monthly RO meeting today and the budget that I and the others worked on passed so that is a good thing.
I made a BIG pot of vegetable soup yesterday and DH took a big bowl to a friend in the park - she fell and broke her ankle while we were gone and has been in rehab and recently got home so felt I should try to help out with a meal for the two of them. I need to do something for Barb & Eddie again also. I always appreciated it when friends brought food for us when Bill was ill so try to repay that to others. I truly do believe the world is a better place when we pay it forward.
