Hi Everyone!
Don't forget to change the clocks tonight. We get an extra hours sleep tonight. Sorry Val that means you work an extra hour. It is the Spring when the clock goes forward and the night is shorter.

It is raining here again today. The kids are trying to get baby's 1st year pictures and Mommy's maternity pictures but not sure it will happen. ;-)

Val I haven't ever watched Nascar races. What is the difference between Nascar and like the Indianapolis 500? Or are they the same, someone told me they aren't. Not that I have watched the Indy 500 much either, but used to when my Dad watched it.

Sandy such a shame folks don't honor their word much anymore. Nice that you did. Glad you had a good time.

Gail glad you were wise and checked out the email before you acted on it! Wise woman!!

Blessings to you all!

Sandy: So glad you enjoyed your time helping out at the school .

Val: Good you'll be getting paid for the hour you don't work. You never know when the extra few $$ make a difference.

Did you read my blog from last night? I got a pfishing email that was supposed to be from Apple. I called them to ask if they had sent it and they hadn't. You cannot be too careful.

Well, I helped out at the local school that is right behind our house. It was a lot of fun. I did it for our work. There were to be 5 of us be just 2 of us showed up. Just happy that the other person showed up and it was just me. Would of really been embarrassed.

We are getting rain today and thru Monday. It has turned cool here.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Halloween! emoticon

As I said, I'm not going to criticize anyone who chooses to get a flu shot. We all have to make our own decisions based on our needs and the information that we have. I will say that the flu shot that Pat got probably didn't actually prevent her from getting the flu because they truly do not do this, but I totally understand what would make a person (anyone, not just Pat) choose to err on the side of what they perceive as safety and get a flu shot. Truth be told, I would probably still be getting them if my employers hadn't bullied me so hard trying to force me to get them. I'm not a person who reacts will to bullies and the more I read about the flu shot, the less I felt inclined to allow employers to bully me into getting one every year. Some hospitals require all employees to get a flu shot as a condition of continued employment. If mine ever does this then of course I'll get one. I think that they're useless and that the mercury in them is dangerous, but I'm not going to lose my job over a principle.

One more day of work for this week. Tomorrow (Saturday) I get to sleep late because I'm going in at 4:30 and working until 3:00 in the morning. One of the good things that my employer does is pay employees who work the night of the time change for an hour they didn't work so that their paychecks don't come up short. So even though the clock will jump ahead at 2:00 and suddenly it will be time for me to go home because it will become 3:00, I'll get paid as though I had worked the full 10 1/2 hours that 4:30 to 3:00 would be if the time change hadn't occurred. Not that one hour of extra pay is really going to mean that much in my life but hey, at least my company is doing something nice for us. emoticon After work I'll come home, sleep for a few hours and then watch the NASCAR race on Sunday...or at least watch part of it. How much depends entirely on how tired I am and how exciting the race is or is not. My favorite driver is retiring after this season and since I haven't been nearly as interested in racing since my husband's death, I'll probably just sleep in on Sundays after this season instead of getting up to watch the races. I'm sure I can find a lot of better things to do with my Sundays...

So anyway, that's the state of my world tonight. I hope that all of you have really great plans for the weekend. Have fun before it's too cold for normal people to go outside. emoticon emoticon emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Great buy Gail. I watch for meat that is marked down also. I picked up 2 roasts the other day at W-Mart. I find they are good (some say they aren't very tender but mine always turn out good). They were marked down to $3 a lb for chuck roast and at the grocery they are $5.99. That is what I cooked the next day and we finished that up so today I made ham & bean soup which will last a couple more days.
I never got a flu shot till 2 years ago. Bill was in and out of the hospital with pneumonia (had it 3 times that winter) and I came down with the flu (I am sure I picked it up going to see him in the hospital). He ended up with the flu a few days after I got sick and it put him in the hospital AGAIN so I now opt to get the shot in hopes of not getting it and giving it to him since he can't take the shot. We all have to weigh what might or might not benefit each of us as tto whether or not we should get it.

Well this is all about being frugal, so I'll tell you about my great buy today. I stopped at Aldis and got a 3.88 lb pack of chicken drumsticks. They were 89 or 99 cents a pound, but because the sell by date was approaching it was $2 off the price. Long story short I paid $1.40 !

I made chicken soup with half the pack and put the remainder in the freezer.

Hi Friends,
It is a busy day here. This is my last post before I go on to other things. ;-)

Gail yes the baby will be the older brother. I have 2 married sons and an unmarried son and daughter. The other married son and his wife have lost both of their babies and still have empty arms after 12 yrs of marriage. We are so blessed to have these 2 babies. Unmarried son has a serious girl and in time will probably marry. She teaches theater and they lived a few hours apart. They met about 7 yrs ago but started dating last year after they met up again.

Pat They will continue to live with me. Saving for a house is a big project these days. Ddil will work from home after the baby. At least that is the plan. ;-) DD, Ddil and I get along very well so the extra hands will be nice but we will cover for her so she can work too. ;-)
Oh, I can imagine the snow birds are coming back! ;-) Enjoy your breakfast get togethers!!

Sadly the flu shots are not all they are advertised to be. I think it is very sad we aren't told the truth. I don't get angry at anyone taking them either but it does disappoint me. The shots can cause lots more trouble than they help.

Val hope you have a great couple days off!

Hugs to you all!! Have a great weekend!

I'm not getting a flu shot because they aren't particularly effective and they contain mercury. But I'm not going to criticize anyone who chooses to get the shot. A friend of mine who used to be a nurse was told that getting it within two weeks of getting a pain block could be deadly, so she has had to go without her pain block because she just had a flu shot. I just wanted to put that into the mix in case any of you are getting pain blocks. If you're going to get the shot, please talk to your doctor about anything else that you are taking or doing that might react poorly with the shot.

And now, off to work. I hope you all have a really great day.

There was much rejoicing!

Boy Pat, you're always on the move. I was wondering if the proposed sales tax of 1 % is to fund school programs.

Listened to the news last night and heard that the flu vaccine isn't as potent for people who take statins, cholesterol medications. Going to the doctor next week and will speak with him about that. I had my flu vaccine earlier this month.

DG it sounds like you will be as busy as I am getting ready for the new arrival. Will they continue to live with you after the birth or are they looking for their own place? I believe you said that DIL is not going to work after this baby is that right? If they do leave you and DD will be lonesome for sure.

The snowbirds are returning and several wanted to restart our breakfast ritual (go once a wk as a group) so 11 of us went this morning and I expect it to continue growing as more people return in the coming weeks. After we got back home, I gave DH a haircut and then called to see if I could get in for one so by noon we both have gotten our "ears lowered!". Feels a lot better. Abbie will go tomorrow for her cut.
We got DH's ballot mailed in for a special election wanting to raise $$ by charging a 1 cent sales tax and I will go tomorrow and do my early vote (the actual day to vote is Mon).
I worked on my ironing this afternoon but it is going to take a couple more days to get that caught up, I have also attacked a few more weeds and that too will take several days to get all up to par. We are watering the tiny bit of our front yard and our neighbors yard as she isn't watering and all the grass is either dying or has died. I kept it going all summer but just 6 weeks gone and BAM it is looking like it was never taken care of. Next week I need to get some weed-n-feed and do my yard and will likely do the neighbor's front yard too as their weeds come into my yard!
I got an appointment to take the car in Mon for it's service and will get my flu and pneumonia shot then also so....making progress!!!

Hi Friends,
My such a list of things to do! Between now and Jan when the new baby will be here, there are a multitude of things to be done. I better make me a list or I will never get it all done. ;-)

Pat oh my what a schedule of things for you to do too! Hope you are resting well in your own bed! Vacation really isn't a rest is it?
Glad Bill is feeling better!! 3 cars in a caravan, did you switch drivers and passengers any? We have done that sort of thing on a couple of trips.
Bet Abbie is glad you are home!

Sandy how nice to get so much training and maybe in management one day. It is nice to know someone appreciates the hard work you do!! Congrats!! Have fun at the Halloween event at the school. Hope all are safe and have a good time. Very kind of you to help with it.

Hope Everyone has a great day!

Gail - I won't get a pay increase till June of next year. I am not sure that I will be doing the same job from now on. I am just training for a week on it. Then I don't know what they will have me do next. It is a way they groom certain people that they want to go into management. I have talked to them about it. So they are cross training me in all areas of the store which is nice. Tonight I closed down all the registers by myself. I also received a pin to put on my badge. There are about 4 pins you can get and I just got my first one tonight. But, yes I really like there and the kids I would with are really nice too. Some of them call me Mom. It really is a nice feeling. All my bosses give my great encouragement and let me know how much they like the work I am doing.

Well, It is really late and I have to get up early tomorrow to finish the books. I am off on Friday but, helping out at the local school by my house the is putting on a Halloween Carnival. It is only from 5p to 8p.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Thanks everyone for inquiring about our trip. We actually had 3 cars for a good part of the trip as we each drove our own vehicle. We got home about 2:30 Mon afternoon and I have been busy ever since. All had to be put away, laundry sorted and DH took care of doing all 7 loads, we had stored a lot of our outside stuff inside in case there was a storm while we were gone so we had all that to move back outside,, I went grocery shopping with Vickie on Tues and that took 2 hours, then of course you have to put it all away, I made a roast yesterday and some potato salad so we had something to eat and hopefully we will not want to go out to eat anytime soon after eating out for 6 weeks, I have made appointments, called to get one of my scripts transferred from W-Mart to my mail order pharmacy and that took over an hour for something that should have been simple-they had me calling 1st the mail order, then the pharmacy then back to MO so at that point I said Whoa, not playing this game, someone is going to resolve this so think now it is, DH went to the chiropractor this morning with a friend and says back/leg is better. I have so many weeds and end up pulling some every time I venture outside but......not really making a lot of progress yet but I will. I had to wash the car-it was so scummy that V & I got filthy loading and unloading stuff when we touched it so I washed it in the rain!!!
DH still needs a haircut as do I and Abbie has an appt. on Fri to get hers cut. Car needs an oil change so praying by Fri evening I have most things done and next week will be able to start fresh!!!
Others decorated the park for Halloween and what a pathetic job they did but I am not going to lift a finger to do more!! Aren't you amazed at that?????
DG so happy you didn't get any issues from the flooding-Patricia followed us home and we had rain yesterday and light rain this morning but finally sunny in the afternoon. Guess it was really dry while we were gone so it was needed.

Happy Wednesday Everyone!! i am 100% better and am trying to catch up on a lot of things. ;-) Isn't that the way when you have been sick. So easy to get behind! ;-) Started some sewing for my little guy and found out I had a bad pattern. It isn't made so it will fit. ;-( So will try again. I think I might be able to "fix" one pair since we had 2 cut from the same fabric. I hope so!

Pat did you drive 2 cars on this trip then? Or maybe I am misunderstanding the friends in AZ that were heading east. Looks like we might get more rain at the end of the week.
Hope you have made it home and all is well!!

Sandy glad you got the sleep you so badly needed! Things will get done. (As if I should talk, LOL)
Glad your hives are getting better!! Are you still able to get together with your Aunt once in awhile to go out and eat together?
Hope your new job is one you will enjoy!

Gail I am about 8 hrs north of the border. Thanks but the hurricane is just bringing us the so desperately needed rain. ;-) I am just sorry it means trouble for others.
How wonderful to get such a bargain on the meat and soup bones!!

So glad to be catching up on my teams and things at the house too!!

Hope all are well and before we know it, it will be Thanksgiving. My little guy is 11 mths old now and crawling all over the place! I told my sister it is time to get new running shoes!! ;-)

Have a great day Everyone!!

Been working on end of month the last couple of days. I've slept in yesterday till 12pm. My hours are going to change next week and so is my job. I am going to be in cash office. Which is counting out all the money from the night before and getting the drawers ready for that day. My hours will be 6am to 1pm. After I do cash office I will go onto the floor to work till 1pm.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Sandy happy to hear you are getting some rest. I know I am going to need some extra sleep when we get home.

We are about 350 miles from home so will make it in tomorrow afternoon. We toured the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola today.

Sandy: Good to hear you are on the mend and getting some good sleep in. Obviously, you need it. Take care.

Pat: You've been gone a while now. I know it was a great trip but it's always good to get home.

DG: I'm glad for you that you are out of the hurricane's path. What part of Texas do you live in? Are you near the border?

Good Morning:

Well, I got to walk in the mall yesterday with my new walking buddy and also made it to the farmers' market. Got a beautiful sweet red pepper.

I had soaked some beans overnight with the thought of making bean and vegetable soup. I was wishing I had some beef or pork bones to throw into the pot and mentioned this to my friend. Long story short, she stopped at Metcalfe's on the way home. Metcalfe's is VERY expensive, about like Whole Foods. But when they have a sale their prices can be lower than Woodman's or Aldi's, the two lowest in town. Also, if you spend $10 at Metcalfe's they always have something free. Yesterday it was $5 worth of bratwurst or Italian sausage. I found 3 packs of beef bones with a good amount of meat for under $2 a pack. I also got some fresh lake white fish that had just come in and was on sale. I made out like a bandit and got 4 brats/sausages to boot. Will use them in soups too.

It's supposed to be sunny and cool here today. Will stay at home and enjoy two books I just started.

Glad you are safe and sound DG. Our other friends, Bob & Faye are back in AZ or were when we last talked to them but they were ready to head east so hoping they are safe and doing ok. They did more running than we did after we left the Grand Canyon.

Pat thanks!! We are fine. It always amazes me that people will drive into high water that is over their tires! There are warnings all the time not to drive into water you can't see the road through and water that is moving. It only takes 4 - 6 ins of water to make a small car float and that is just the top of a curb! If a car is floating it isn't controllable by the driver. It goes where the water takes it!

Glad you are closing in on home, Pat!! Can't wait to hear about your travels!

DG do hope you are safe and high and dry. Sure scary for lots of Texas. We watched the flooding in Dallas on the news and saw a mobile home floating away but wasn't sure where that was. We used to make sure of where we were (county wise) when we traveled in the rv so we could set up our weather radio but don't do that when traveling by car but might be something to think about. Pray for all the people affected by this storm.

We left Houston about 8 am and it was just misting then. It took us about 45 min to get thru Houston and was happy we didn't try to do it during rush hour on Fri!! Glad to have that behind us. I think I dislike driving there more than most major cities!!!
We drove about 350 miles today and we are in Hammond, LA tonight. Rain got really heavy several times and that wears one out. We should make it to Pensacola tomorrow before noon and will tour the Naval Air Museum and spend the night in the area then hopefully arrive home Mon. It is a little over 400 miles so....we should be able to handle that-I know DH will be pushing to-he wants to see his "baby".

Hello!!
Pat glad you got out of Houston area. We were supposed to get together with friends and they could drive north due to the flooding. Other friends couldn't get their flight because nothing was allowed to land here. So we will plan it for the spring or later.

Sandy hope you are doing ok. How are the hives, under control again!

Gail how are the events? Are you still busy with new and long time friends?

emoticon Elizabeth Glad to have you join us.

Bill is doing better-will try to watch about the additives and see if that helps him. He just seems to have periods of tummy issues. Last year was a bad flare and he was on steroids. The gastro doc is getting a call when we get home!!

We are trying to outrun the rain that is coming to TX from Hurricane Patricia. We are just north of Houston tonight and they are warning people to be aware of potential flooding by tomorrow afternoon so we will be up early and beat feet east!! Only stopped once today for a few minutes of sightseeing as it rained on us most of the day. The worst of it was north and south of where we were. Only once did it rain so hard it was hard to see driving.

Gail so happy you are getting out and enjoying doing things with others and making new friends. I am sure your assistance will be welcome to the new widow. You have been thru it and know how to help her navigate everything.

Hello Friends!! A lot of posting since yesterday!! Nice to see everyone and a "new face" too. ;-) Welcome Elizabeth!!!

Pat so sorry Bill is having such a rough time. Hope you can get home quickly with no troubles and get him into his Dr quickly too. Hope you have had a wonderful trip and a very enjoyable time!

Val so very sorry about the situation surrounding the murder of that little girl. I do hope they have the person in custody! I am sure he/she regrets it now! Why don't people think before they do such crazy things. So sorry for the Dad. He will regret always having been upset and not just letting it go!

Gail so glad things have been going so well for you and you have so many friends and happy times together! What is the young friend going to knit for you? I hope the young widow can find a happy way to make an income.
How wonderful that you have found a way to avoid acid reflux. I agree additives to foods can affect us in ways we have no clue. Avoiding them helps so much!!

Hope Everyone has a good weekend!!

Good Morning:

I can honestly say that I had a VERY good time at the TimeBank party last night. There is always good friendship, but the best part was the sing along at the end. There were some talented people there, especially one guy who did a Louis Armstrong imitation of the song IT'S A BEAUTIFUL WORLD. The lady who drove last night was very nice. The good news is she lives very close to me and asked if I'd like to be her walking partner.

All sorts of nice things are happening to me. I met a young widow at the co-op supermarket and we have become friends. I've been helping her negotiate her way through medical insurance options and a few other things and took her to Aldi's this week. Aldi's is much less expensive than where she had been going and since she is living off her savings and has no job, she needs to save where she can.. Anyway, she is an avid knitter and will be knitting me that 1930s style for which I recently obtained the pattern.

I mentioned on Tuesday morning that I had a terrible night fighting heartburn. That morning I went for my yoga class, and when I bent over forward the acid reflux came back. A search on the net led me to an article that pointed out all the chemical additives in foods give us acid reflux, other gastro problems and cause us to gain weight. That day I watched what I ate very carefully: fruits, veggies, meat, and diary with no additives. Well, Tuesday night no heartburn. The same thing Wednesday nigh, Late last night, even though I had lots of spicy food like salsa and chili, I had no heat burn. This "no additives" seems to be working for me.

Pat, I'm wondering if this would help Bill. It means avoiding any food that could have additives and preservatives whether at home or when eating out. Having something like grilled fish or chicken, baked potatoes with butter and steamed veggies or a salad with oil and vinegar would work. BTW, though it's counter intuitive, some cider vinegar helps counter heart burn.

Got a bunch of mysteries at the library yesterday and am looking forward to finding some new authors.

Gail

I saw a report on the national news about that shooting too. And then at work today someone told me that the father was driving and wanted to exit from the freeway to a city street but the shooter cut him off. So the father of the girl drove up next to the shooter and waved his hand at him. I kind of translate that as gave him the finger, but I don't know that for sure. Anyway, after that the shooter drove by and shot into the dad's truck, hitting the little girl in the head. The family pulled over to the side of the road and an ambulance took the little girl to University Hospital, but obviously she did not make it. People are just so crazy these days. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Val we saw about the little girl on the news-so tragic but I understand an arrest has been made. That is good.
We managed to stay ahead of the rain today but fear our luck may run out tomorrow. DH had a really bad night so we are trying to get home. I need to get him into the gastro doc again as his tummy issues are getting worse again and then add in the cold-not a good situation. He had to sit up in a chair for nearly 3 hours so he could breathe. He didn't want to go to ER as he was afraid they would admit him and then we would be stuck here longer! That happened when we were in Ft. Meyers and he spent a week in the hospital there.

I prepared a long post with comments to Val and Pat, but I lost it.

Today was good. A friend from Israel is in town for a visit. It was so good to see him...such a nice man and an exceptional human being. I hope to,see him again before he leaves.

Tonnight I am going to the 10th birthday party of the Dane County TimeBank. They are having a cake walk so I baked a chocolate cake. It should be fun. I joined it some years ago but haven't been active for a few years. Now I'll be getting back into the swing of things.

Enjoy the evening.

Hi Everyone!

Pat so glad you can stop in and let us know how you are all doing. Sorry Bill's cold is going into his chest. I hope he can kick it without a prescription. I don't know why I am having such a hard time kicking this. I am pretty healthy normally.

Val it was here you shared it. So sorry the Dad works in labor and delivery. How hard to grieve when he sees the joy of new family members every day. Life is sure hard!! I have lost a child, 2 Grandchildren, both my parents within 6 weeks of each other from cancer, and my DH of 39.5 yrs. believe me none of them are any easier than the others to lose. They all cause grief and agony.

Hope Everyone has a great rest of the week.

Las Cruces is about 4 hours south of me. We had rain storms all day long so I'm not surprised that Cruces had them, too. We can always use the rain, but it does make for pretty miserable traveling...especially when one of you isn't feeling well. I sure hope Bill is on his way back to health soon.

I don't know whether it was this group I told yesterday or the other one I'm active in. Yesterday afternoon a 4 year old girl was killed in an apparent road rage shooting on the interstate at the west side of town. This morning I found out that her father works upstairs in my hospital's labor and delivery ward. I really feel awful for him. Parents just aren't supposed to outlive their children, especially not like this. Then this afternoon we lost a patient from that nursing unit. She had lost 5 babies previously (I think all of them at birth or shortly after). This baby lived, but her mama died shortly after giving birth. Very, very sad. When you work in the kind of hospital I work in, things like this are going to happen once in a while, but you're never going to feel good about it. so a couple of days without tragic deaths would be really good right about now...

Fall is finally here! emoticon Now if we could just stop here and skip the cold parts of winter, that would really be great. emoticon I hope that the end of the week is really great for all of you.

There was much rejoicing!

DG I can relate to trying to get better and not doing too much. I fought my cold (while continuing to keep going and driving every day) for over 2 weeks. Poor DH has it now. I have had to keep stopping and getting more OTC meds for us. He took his last mucinex tonite so will have to find a W-Mart and get him some more. He is coughing more than I did and it sounds like it is in his chest where mine was all in my head.
We had more rain during the night and was drizzling as we loaded up this morning but only drove in light rain off and on for a few minutes several times today. We could see where it had flooded the road on the way into the Saguaro National Park-sure glad it wasn't pouring down today-we would not have attempted to get there. We have seen dark clouds all around us and 2 different rainbows so very blessed that the bad stuff missed us. We are in Las Cruces tonight and the gal at the front desk told us about an hour before we arrived it had been pouring rain and some hail.

Hello Dear Friends,
We continue to make progress today. Now to be careful we don't over do. It is easy when one feels well again! ;-)

Pat what a wonderful time you are having!! Thanks for sharing so much of it with us! What wonderful memories!!

Val so sorry to hear about that little girl. Losing a child is always a real heart ache no matter what the cause. Do pray for her parents. Couples that lose a child have a much higher divorce rate than any other group of couples. Grief is a terrible thing and a grieving person can't really comfort another they are so consumed with their own agony, not that they intend to be, it just is that way.
Glad it has cooled down for you so you can rest better. Sorry your apartment doesn't have a/c or heating by your choice. Some do, maybe that is something you should add to your list of things to look for when you are checking other apartments.

Gail you are right, it is so common and agree with causes. It all boils down to the sinful nature of mankind. Selfishness, and it doesn't make them feel one bit better after they have chosen the wrong thing. Only Jesus Christ's gift of forgiveness (because He paid the price/penalty for all sin) can change us and make us new creatures with a new purpose in life. I recently read a book "Traitor? A Jew, A Book, A Miracle" by Jacob Gartenhaus. He said, "Many Jews feel that Christians blame Jews for killing Jesus." Well Jesus was not murdered He gave Himself to die, He is the last sacrifice needed to pay for sin. I haven't ever known anyone that thought the Jews killed Jesus. It was all part of God's plan to restore Mankind unto Himself. He loves us, created us and had a plan to restore us to Himself if we just accept the price He paid to do that. Such a love story!! But a real story, real His Story (History).
Thanks for the Jokes!

Hope everyone has a lovely day! It is cool here too and looks like it might stay that way through the end of next week. Woo Hoo!!

I hope this joke doesn't offend anyone. Point of fact, the Canadian exchange rate is about the same as the USA.
------------------

I't was announced today that Canada is preparing to increase it's commitment to assisting the United States in its war against terrorism.

They have promised to commit two of their largest battleships, 6,000 armed troops, and 60 fighter jets.

However, after the exchange rate is factored in, that comes down to a canoe, two Mounties and a flying squirrel.

Val: Evil and lack of respect and value for life is, so sadly, not uncommon. I shake my head in disbelief and yet there are killings day after day. I think, to a large extent, violent games, movies, and TV programs have desensitized people. The day we don't recoil in dread is the day we lose our humanity.

The apartment people came and switched my apartment from cooling to heating today. emoticon I'd still like to have my cooler working, though it never really worked very well this year. At least now that they've switched my apartment over I won't have to worry about sleeping in more than my panties in case they come knocking on my door tomorrow morning. emoticon I guess fall really has arrived. It was cool enough that I had to wear a jacket this afternoon and it's been raining off and on most of the day. Supposed to get down to 50 degrees tomorrow morning and it's supposed to rain all night and into the afternoon tomorrow. Hooray!

This afternoon a 4 year old girl was shot in a road rage incident on the west side of the city. emoticon Nobody really seems to know anything about who did the shooting on the freeway. It's so very sad. Nobody deserves to lose a child this way. Some people are just plain evil. Sorry, didn't really mean to bring everyone down. I guess it's just still on my mind. I feel so bad for the little girl's parents.

So now that I've brought everyone down, I hope that the week is going well for all of you. Have a great hump day. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

We had quite the symphony with thunder during the night-so loud it woke me up twice. We had rain off and on today but managed to get in our sightseeing in spite of it. We drove thru Oak Creek Canyon, stopped for an hour or so in Sedona, got to see Montezuma's Castle and managed to hit Phoenix before the worst of rush hour!!!
We are in Casa Grande, AZ tonight and more sightseeing tomorrow.
DG we won't be home this weekend-maybe by the end of the month. Just to get across TX will take us 2-3 days!!!!

Beautiful fall day here. Unfortunately I didn't sleep well at all last night. Had heartburn. Yuk! Had to take 3 Tums before I got some relief.

Going to do some laundry and then try to read.

Today was the day we went to The Grand Canyon-words can't begin to describe how awesome it is. It was even better to see our friends experience it for the 1st time. It is like watching a baby their first Christmas.
Bill's back and legs gave him some issues so he only walked at the one point today. I sure didn't want him to make things worse so was glad he was able to sit and relax in the car.
We were worried about rain, but it didn't happen. Now hope we are as lucky as we take the scenic route to Sedona tomorrow.

Vali - I was off Sunday and I work today Monday 7p to 11p. My next day off is Saturday.

I tied to sleep in today but had someone calling my cell phone every 2 mins. And I didn't want to get up to answer it and it was across the room being charged. The person never left a message. Which was even more frustrating to me. I hate when people call you and then they don't leave a message. So, I am still a little tired today but, have a shot shift today.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Well here I am. After a day of feeling well and eating normal, oh my!! Blah!! DD and I over did it I guess and have had a relapse as had the baby. We are all back on the BRAT diet and trying to get our tummies under control. The baby spent the day with his parents and his other grandparents so we didn't feed him!! ;-) So we aren't sure if this is just part of it and we are all still healing.

Gail what a great idea! I had never thought about asking for garden produce on Freecycle! Glad you got some great produce!! I bet you were exhausted after all the cooking! Thanks for the jokes!!

Pat hope Bill has gotten over the cold. It sounds like such a wonderful time and seeing so many wonderful things!! How wonderful you can exercise while you see all the sights.

Val freecycle would even be a good place to look for that dresser you need. ;-) I agree I think it is all over the country.

Sandy glad you were able to sleep so long. Hope you are able to heal with all the work you are
being scheduled to do.

Elisa no special plans for October but making plans for Thanksgiving and DD and Ddil have done the Thanksgiving decorating this weekend.

Hope everyone has had a good Monday!!

Made some Italian meat balls and wrote out a few Christmas cards this morning. My card list is skeleton thin this year.

Sandy: Glad you got some sleep.

Pat: I haven't been to Hoover Dam in decades. I can't imagine what it's like.

Elisa: What are you doing for extra income?

OK, so here are some Ole and Lena Jokes:

Ole is so cheap that after his airplane landed safely, he grumbled: "Vell, dere gose five dollars down da drain for dat flight insurance!
----------------------------------------
----------

Ole wore both of his winter jackets when he painted his house last July. The directions on the can said "put on two coats".
-------------------------------------

Lars: "Ole, stant in front of my car and tell me if da turn signals are vorking". Ole: "Yes, No, Yes, No, Yes, No, Yes, No...."
--------------------------------------

And my favorite for today:

LARS: Have you heard dat dey elected a Pole to be Pope?
SVEN: Ya, it's about time, dose Catlicks have had it long enough.

We made it to Hoover Dam and WOW it has really changed since I was last there. I knew they had built a bypass bridge but had not seen it. Still very impressive but so sad to see how low the water level is. All one has to do is look at the canyon walls to see where the level should be.
We are heading to The Grand Canyon tomorrow. I got in about 4 miles of walking today as we parked in the free lot which is a good hike back to the dam!!!

We have Freecycle here. Rarely anything we want, tho. DH checks on it.

SR: 2 a.m.???? Ugh! Glad you slept well.

We are getting our finances in shape. Thank you, Team! Feels good.
It helps that I am now able to bring in some income.
I'm trying to create some semi-passive income. Didn't know how difficult that would be! Still doing it tho.

How is everyone? Any special plans for October? Thinking of Christmas yet?

Freecycle here seems to go through periods of being very active and periods of not being much of anything. I get emails from them and they sort of wax and wane. I wish that they were more active here because it's a very good concept.

There was much rejoicing!

Oh, man! I just got out of the kitchen. I cooked up the Swiss chard, made home made salsa, apple sauce, 1 jar of pickled green tomatoes, creme fraiche and finished making the mushroom pate I started yesterday.

Now I'm going to rest. Think I'll read or catch up on the TV shows I recorded. You know, I'm beat.

G.

Val: I guess the activity and strength of a free cycle depends on the members. I have given away very good stuff and I have gotten a real gem...a leather Scandinavian chair and ottoman. That is the only chair I have ever fallen asleep in and it is one of my favorite reading chairs. It's the same thing with the time bank. Here people are quick to give and help is just a call or an email away.

We have Freecycle here, I think that they're all over the country. I've offered a few things but none of them have ever been taken, and I've never actually tried to claim anything I've seen posted. It does seem like a good way to get rid of things you no longer want or need while finding things that you've been looking for. I'd be in heaven if I ever saw someone offering fresh produce like what Gail got since I don't really have access to any of my own.

There was much rejoicing!

Hi everyone-don't know what happened-I wasn't getting notices on here so had to go out to the team page to get to the chat.
We have been really busy-seeing a lot and now have started the slow journey home. We did a tour in San Francisco on Thursday-from 9 am till almost 8 pm so a long day there. We are in Las Vegas tonight-drove all day from Carson City to get here-about 450 miles. Want to go to Hoover Dam tomorrow. We are heading south to take the southern route home. I think we should be back home by the end of the month. We opted to skip Yosemite since they were getting rains and we would have had to back track due to the mud slides in southern CA.
Will have to catch up reading with all that has been going on with all of you soon. I am finally over my cold but fear Bill has found it! I doctored him up tonight so hoping he won't get too bad. He has had some back issues-spasms which he hasn't had before. We worried about the neck but it has done good.

We have freecycle in this area. Have you heard of it? Everything that you get or give is free. People who have something they no longer need or want post an OFFER; those who are looking for something post a WANTED. I posted a wanted for any extra produce that people might have from their summer garden, and one lady responded. I drove out to her home this morning and came back with eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, parsley and Swiss chard. I cleaned everything but have yet to cut up the rest of the peppers; there were three varieties. I learned that this lady donated several hundred pounds of veggies to the local food pantry. What an angel.

I'm so exhausted right now I'll probably fall asleep in my reading chair.

Take care all,

Gail

Val; Glad some cool weather has come your way.

DG: Hope that bug takes a hike very soon.

Pat: When do you start back home? I'm so glad you're enjoying the trip.

Sandy: So sorry your hives are back. Take it easy.

We're finally getting some cooler weather here. emoticon We're not supposed to get over 75 degrees over the next ten days and we might even get some rain next week. We can always use rain. When I left my apartment this afternoon I really wished I'd worn a jacket (for the first time this year) but I was running late so I didn't go back to get one. Fall is so much nicer than summer here. emoticon emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Well, I went into work early yesterday and got off early. When I got home I only watched TV for a few minutes and fell right to sleep till about 2am when I got up with my hives again. When I saw the doctor last I told him I started breaking out again since my Car accident. He said that he is not surprised due to the stress of the accident. So, they kept me awake till I took some Benadryl and that seem to help an put me to sleep. So, I slept on and off all day. I have an Event to go to tomorrow morning at 6am to 9am. Then I go to work fro 4pm to midnight. I am off on Sunday and will sleep. Then I don't go in till 7pm on Monday.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Hello Friends,
We have had some stomach bug pass through the household. We are feeling better.

Val it is still hot here too and the a/c still comes on plenty during the day and even some at night. I will be glad when we don't need it and don't need the heat yet either. It is nice that it gets to 60s at night.

Gail how nice that the painter is done and you have cleaned up and all is back to normal. I am happy for you that you have been able to get so much done to your home. Great idea to cook and freeze when you are in the mood too. I fixed supper last night. The first time in a long while. I made home made chicken noodle soup. It hit the spot for all of us. I am not sure if my Ddil has ever had a meal I made. Probably but like I said not for a long time. ;-)
Apples and pears!! That sounds wonderful. I'd freeze them for smoothies for the winter!

Hope Everyone has a great weekend!

Good Afternoon:

The painter finished up staining and treating the wood sills and stops throughout the house and it looks great. I vacuumed upstairs and dry mopped downstairs. and now things are back to normal.

It went down to the 30s this morning and I never got dressed. It is sunny and much warmer now...in the 60s.. a beautiful fall day. Hey, Val, if you want to come for a visit to get out of the heat, you are welcome to come stay at my house for a few days.

This morning I made some bean and vegetable soup and threw a hunk of port steak into the pot. Yum. Healthy and good tasting. Yesterday I browned 1 1/2 lbs of ground beef that I will use for chili or some Tex/Mex casserole. There are times I don't want to cook, so having something in the freezer to nuke hits the spot.

A few minutes ago a friend dropped off a bunch of apples and pears. There are too many for me to leave out to eat, so I'll make pears in wine and apple sauce, and freeze them.

Sending you all lots of love,

Gail

Gail, what I wouldn't give for your low temperatures right now. Our low tomorrow morning is supposed to be 57 and we're still getting up to the 80s at least half of the time. I'm sooo tired of heat...but give me a few months and I'll be crying about the cold. emoticon They're supposed to come switch us from cooling (which never really worked for me this summer) to heating on the 205h of the month...and I think that will probably be too soon for me. Oh well. Hopefully it will actually get cool sometime soon. (80 degrees for Halloween isn't unheard of, but I don't really like it when that happens.)

Things have been okay so far this week. Well, kind of. Work today was kind of a drag, but it could have been worse and at least I've got a job that pays my rent and bills and also buys cat food for my little Cali Cat. emoticon But I'll tell you all now...if I ever go crazy and get married again he's going to have to be able to support me so that I don't have to work outside of home anymore. I'm not really expecting to ever get married again, but at least I've got my priorities straight. emoticon

Anyway, I hope that everyone's having a great week. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Happy Hump Day Everyone!
It is going to be a slow day today. DD has an upset stomach. So Grandma is on baby duty so if it is something catchy the baby isn't so closely exposed. ;-) Right now he is napping, thankfully!
I sure have plenty to do to keep me busy.

Sandy glad they continue to teach you new things. How are things with your Aunt? Hope they are smooth again!

Gail wish we lived closer. I could use a trustworthy painter. ;-) Sounds like he is doing a wonderful job, diligent and conscientious!! Aren't clean clear windows a delight?
It is getting cooler here but it is 89 right now so it isn't coming too quickly! LOL When it comes it will be a shock! At least it is cooler at night and we don't have the a/c coming on all night long.

Pat we all miss you! Hope all is well and you are having a marvelous time!

Sandy. You are a bright lady and a reliable enthusiastic worker. I'm sure they are over the moon to have you. So glad you are enjoying the work.

Pat where are you? How is the trip going and how is Bill holding up?

Yesterday the painter came and stained and treated the wood between the double glass windows. Due to condensation over the years the color was gone and some areas even had to be sanded. It had never been done in the 44 years that I've been in the house. It looks great now. Today he does the 2 nd floor. He's also been cleaning the two inner sides of the two panes that face each other. The windows look so great I was reminded of the glass cleaner commercial where the bird flies into the window because he doesn't realize there is a glass pane. LOL

the temps dropped to the mid 30s this morning. Brrrr

Gail - Thank you fro the Be-late Birthday. I really did do anything or do any celebrating. I just slept and relaxed.

Just wanted to pop in before heading to bed. They are now training me to close the registers at night. It is a lot of fun. I have worked in a bank before for this comes easy. They are really happy how fast I picked up on doing it.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Sandy: Belated birthday wishes. I had no idea it was your special day.

DG: How wonderful your kids helped you clean out the garage. You have a great bunch of kids there. Did your little grandson get into it with you?

Just got back from a party and am ready to hit the deck though it's not even 8:30. I was going to watch the debates but I don't think I'll go there.

Sweet dreams everyone.

Hello Friends! Wow I didn't realize it had been so long since I had posted! Saturday was so busy! 3 of my kids volunteered to help me clean the garage. We got a lot of stuff sorted and in order so I can take care of a box at a time. Then we hauled a bunch of stuff to the curb where it was picked up today! ;-) A good feeling to know there is more order there than chaos!

Gail so glad to hear you made so much progress with your Apple products!! Hope it all runs smoothly now and you have more peace! How did the 2nd yoga class go?

Val sounds like you have good plans to accomplish what you want to get done. Sorry you had a fever and scratchy throat and missed the visit with your girlfriend from HS.

Sandy you are welcome for the Birthday wishes! Hope you had a great day!!
Great to get all your errands done on one day so you can rest and enjoy the other day off. What movies did you watch? I have favorites I love to watch over and over but enjoy others too.

Elisa glad you have joined us! Jump in and tell us about you and your family!

Hope to be back tomorrow and not have any more big gaps in posts! Hugs to you all!
