Thanks Pat and Sandy! It was fun seeing how much was really in there. We will have lots of chili and Mexican dishes but also lima beans and split peas for some variety. There were Mung beans which we will have to research some recipes. Anyone have any they have tried and like?
Your dinner sounds wonderful! A friend took DD and I out to a favorite Japanese Grill last night. There beef and fried rice and fried veggies are always wonderful!

Sandy sorry you have construction right outside your window. That makes a move more appealing for sure! If not can you put some insulation in the window to help keep out some of the sound? A neighbor of ours, a day sleeper, did that when we had a lot of young children in the neighborhood and it was summer time, to keep down some of the noise that would bother him.

Hope Everyone has a great weekend!

DG that is was wonderful that you won all that food.

Pat I haven't talked to lately about being tired as right now we have a school being built right out side my bed room and they star at 7am and they stop at 3pm. So part of the problem right now is that they wake me at 7am after coming home at 1am. She has been watching my TSH ( Thyroid) and keeping an eye on my iron and other test. But, everything else is good. So, far.

I did go to sleep last night at 9pm and didn't wake till about 8:30am when they dumped a lot of rocks outside my bedroom. I our company is helping out at the Boys & Girls Club Celebrate today. So I am helping out today instead of working at the store. I am working there from 2pm to 5pm.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

DG how exciting to guess the closest and now have some "free" food that will last you for quite a few meals.
I am making chicken fried rice for dinner with broccoli, water chestnuts and cashews and will take dinner over to Vickie & Sonny as they are still pretty sick.
I did some more weeding in my yard and got the ironing caught up. Tomorrow I have to be at Quest by 7:45 and then will run some errands.

Hi Everyone!
Another good day here. Ddil won a 2 gallon jar of beans and pasta for being the closest to the correct number of pieces in it. ;-) We finally got all the beans and pasta separated and into zip lock baggies. ;-) We will have them to eat all winter long, I think! LOL

Gail how special to still have that table! One of our first pieces of furniture was an old dresser. It had the original stain and varnish, painted over, and then somone wall papered over that! It took us a long time to strip it all down but it is a beautiful wood underneath. We were able to stain it and DH put a very thick coat of polyurethane over that. We still use it too. I have other pieces that were his parents - like our dining room set and some things that belonged to my parents. I love family treasures. It makes me feel connected. :-) Some of my children want some of the things and some don't but that is ok too.

Pat how wonderful that you too had things from older family members and were able to pass some to your sons! Thanks for sharing the memories!
What a shame we don't live closer! I love turkey but not all my family does. I used to purchase 3 - 4 turkeys at Thanksgiving time when they were on sale and freeze them to use all winter. Turkey noodle soup and turkey pot pie are 2 of my all time favorite uses for left over turkey!!! Turkey salad and Turkey sandwiches aren't bad choices either. :-)
Hurray for yard work that is done!!

Sandy so glad you had the hives for the Dr to see. Hope the medication works well and the specialist tomorrow has even more help.

Good Night Friends!

Sandy do hope the medicine works. Glad the dr feels the changes you are making are good ones.
We had more rain today. I did manage to get some yard work done and a couple of loads of laundry.taken care of today. We even took a bag of clothes that I had cleaned out of our closets to the thrift drop off. Trying to get some things cleaned out slowly but surely.

I Saw my primary care Doctor today and I had the hives. I was really happy about that as I wanted her to see it. She gave me another Medose pack and a pneumonia shot also. We had a nice talk and she is really pleased at what I am doing in my life. The Medose pack that got this time is the one I use to get. So, I am hoping this longer dose really helps. I do have appt. with my Allergy Doctor on Monday. So, We will see what happens. I am feeling better since I took my first dose, at least the itching has stop.

Hope everyone had a great day.

I think it is wonderful to have some pieces that have "meaning" to us. My sons used the high chair that their father had used as a baby. I rocked them in a rocking chair their great grandparents had used to rock their grandma. Fond memories using those pieces of furniture. The only thing I still own now is my grandmother's old steamer trunk. Some items I passed on to the sons (if they wanted them) and the rest I sold as we couldn't take them in our rv!!!
It has rained off an on all day. I started to walk, rain, waited a few minutes, stopped so I walked but it started up about 2 blocks from my home so I got a wee bit wet. I did go get my hair cut today and made a big pot of turkey noodle soup when I got home. Our friends, Vickie & Sonny, are both ill so I took them a big bowl, also a bowl to our next door neighbor who isn't doing well and another to the guy where we park our car across the street. We had it for supper, I kept enough out for another meal and froze the rest for later. I have enough of the turkey breast left to make a turkey pot pie. I do say making a turkey breast sure can go far and provide several different meals for a family. My biggest issue is DH does not like leftovers and quickly tires of something-told me tonight no more turkey for awhile but he is getting turkey pot pie later in the week!!!! Not wasting good meat.
We were supposed to go to bonfire tonight-monthly hot dog roast-but we opted to stay home due to rain and thunder as the "furbabies" are scared during storms. Both are close to us right now. We had gotten 1/2 of an inch before this round and it appears the gauge is over 1" now,

DG: I think it's great that your family does projects like that. My husband could do most anything but he had so many interests that he did very few. One thing he did when we got married. We were starving students and had virtually no money for furniture. It was late August when there was a closeout on redwood outdoor furniture. For about $23 we bought a picnic table with redwood that was abut 2 " thick. He sanded it, stained it and put on a few coats of a clear, tough coating. That table still serves as my kitchen table.

So true and I agree for me too, DrGrandma!

Hope Everyone has a great day! Busy one here but that is good!! Sewing night tonight. I hope to get the seat cushion made for the high chair that my DH used at his Grandparents. My DD painted and stained it and baby's Daddy made leather security belts for it and DS#1 screwed them into place. It looks so wonderful and we all are pleased that even though DH is not here to love on his grandchildren they will have a place to sit and eat where he enjoyed the love of his Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles. ;-)

(waves hello) sorry all it's just been a busy time with writing papers and doing research for school. Living frugally has shown me interesting things. But mostly good. I though when I made this decision I would feel deprived especially where food was involved. What I have found was "new" choices. I'm learning to appreciate fresh veggies and fruits again. I wonder why I lost track of my old friends to begin with.

Glad you are settling in DG and hope the little guy gets that tooth soon. I remember my boys always ran a fever for a few days when they cut teeth.

Sandy do hope you talk to your dr about always being tired also. I am having the same issue so need to talk to my dr when I see him also. Might be nothing but.....better safe than sorry.

Boy, I am really tired today. I slept till 9:30 am then watched some Perry Mason and fell back to sleep till noon. I still could sleep another 3 hrs. But afraid that I won't sleep tonight. I see the doctor tomorrow for my annual Physical. Going to talk to her about the hives that I seem to not be able to get rid of this time.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Hi Friends,
I am doing better at getting to the things I need to do each day. Last week the little one ran a low grade temp for 3 days. He is teething and his little gums are so sore. No teeth yet but fever has been gone a few days and he is much happier. Gums are still very sore. He is napping better too.

Pat so glad to share my dog tips with you. I am trying a new food too, well I have purchased it but won't really try it until he is closer to done with the Puppy Chow. I know I have to mix it but I bought a small bag of the new stuff.
Hope the therapy works well for DH and it isn't too complicated working around your trip to Daytona.
So glad you are getting help with the weeding!
Kuddos to DH for changing his diet to improve his health! I know that makes you happy too!

Sandy have you decided on the new place closer to your Aunt. It would be nicer to be closer to her! Sorry life has been so difficult lately. Glad you enjoy your job.

Gail so glad the surgery went well!! Hope you see even better now!! I know it takes a bit of time for it to clear up.
Thanks to you and Pat for reminding me to check on Senior discounts.
Amazing the cost of repairs isn't it? Congrats on the microwave! Hope it works well for a long time!

Nan hope it was a lovely wedding and a fun trip!

Chris emoticon

Am off to do dishes and some organizing! Am enjoying the progress although still much to do! But we have lived here a life time so it won't happen over night!! ;-)

Took DH to the nephrologist this morning and the news was good. After being in a very bad spot less than 2 yrs ago, his kidney function is almost back to normal. By watching his diet and plenty of fluids they are doing better than the dr expected for someone his age. We are very thankful and pray this continues at his next checkup next Feb.
I know we are all working to better our health and it always amazes me when people know that by changing their diet they could improve their condition but they always say it is too hard and want a pill instead. I am thankful that DH is willing to make tweaks in his diet that has improved his health. This is a man who never used to even eat a salad and now will order one for a meal. He never drank water and now drinks several bottles a day. He wasn't a fruit eater and now enjoys many different varieties.

I worked today from 3 to 10 pm. It was good to be at work. It is where I am the happiest as I am away from all the stress, so to speak. It is kind of sad as his own son doesn't want to live with him either. I have been in touch with a old dear friend who is going through the same thing but, a little different. So it has been nice to talk with him. He has been very supportive and very nice.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Sandy do hope you are able to sell the business and the house and find a smaller place if that will help relieve the stress and get rid of the hives. Never good to be under a lot of pressure. Sorry to hear that DH still "doesn't get it".

We went to church this morning minus Sonny. He was under the weather but Vickie joined Bill & I. Afterwards we had lunch at Outback and our neighbors joined us. DH had invited them to our church and they had attended it this morning.

I have done a few things around home but did quite a bit of reading as my e-book is due in a week and I still have 20 chapters to read.

I slept in till 1pm today and it felt really good. Talked to DH I had just paid him for 3 weeks work - long story short he hasn't changed at all even with the fact that he has stopped drinking it is still the blame game. He just doesn't take reasonability for his own actions. Informed him that I am going to be selling the house. So, he will not be moving back in so might as well start to look for a place to live. He doesn't believe me but, he will when I sell the business and the house in the next few months. I think that may be why the hives are not going away this time is do to the stress. But, I am not feeling under stress. I am tired a lot though.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

I got most of my to-do list done before we left for a birthday party-surprise 70th for a friend. I had to do the pill boxes for the coming week, had used our electric grill to cook supper last night so got it all cleaned up and then got on the computer, paid my Visa bill and cashed in points-got a 10% bonus for putting the money in my checking account instead of taking cash-and then got the minutes typed up from my finance meeting the other day. We are dog sitting again for little Abby and her mommy asked if I would giver her a bath so when we got home from the party, I did that and gave her a trim on the face and feet (wasn't asked to do that so hope I didn't overstep!). I have been reading on my book-1/4 of the way done and have 8 more days till it is zapped back tot he library so will try to read every day so I can finish it in time-it has 37 chapters so it is a long one.
We just had quite a downpour, heavy rain, thunder, etc. Was supposed to arrive earlier but just arrived. The furbabies were anxious but have settled down now.

Yes, getting a handyman to do minor repairs is expensive. When we still lived in STL our son liked to make extra $$ so he did most of our odd jobs and we knew he would do a good job. Now we have one friend who does some odd jobs but he doesn't do everything so...have to find someone to do those he won't do. We got lucky when our neighbor put in our faucet for us and wouldn't take any pay and Sonny helped patch our tire.
How lucky to find a microwave to replace yours. The money you saved on it helped to pay for the repairs.

Good Afternoon:

Went over to deliver some donations to the Hospice Thrift shop today. Right out there in the front was what looked like a new or almost new small white microwave oven. I think I mentioned my microwave died almost 2 weeks ago. Anyway, it looked perfect. I bought it for $15 and was really a happy camper.

On the flip side, I had some small home repairs: fixing the rain spouts, repairing the screen on the back porch, and fixing the wobbly plank on my picnic bench. Anyway, I was floored at the cost...$125!. Oh well, easy come easy go. I wanted that stuff fixed and have been putting it off for quite a while.

Wishing you all a good weekend.

Walked this morning for over 90 minutes and then found out my fitbit isn't working. I just replaced the battery about 2 weeks ago so thinking it may have died! It is about 3+ years old and has been thru the washer (accidentally) and went swimming at the beach (forgot to take it off when I went to cool off so....maybe it is time to spring for a new one. Now do I get the little one or upgrade to the flex?????

I finished cleaning the house this morning, gave DH a haircut and went grocery shopping and was done by noon! Had more on my to do list but decided to leave something for tomorrow and enjoy reading on my book this afternoon.

We had quite a shower this morning-got over 1/2" and we could get up to 3-4" by the time Monday rolls around. Cooler weather though-only supposed to be in the 80's for a few days.

Sandy: Are you looking to buy another home? Not interested in renting? Will it be difficult to sell your home?

Pat: Hope the PT helps Bill a lot. So sorry you'll be running from one medical appointment to another. Bummer.

Nan: Where will you travel? Will you be visiting relatives or friends or will you be sightseeing?

DG: How's it going? Any weekend plans?

Wonderful news Gail. Sounds like all those worries before you started this were for naught!

Sandy hope you will be able to find exactly what you are looking for and close to your aunt.

We had a lengthy visit with the doc-most of it spent waiting on her but she did spend almost 30 min examining him and doing tests, etc. New x-rays and wants to get a DEX scan, etc.
She isn't a big believer in drugs or surgery if something else can help sooooo he starts PT 3X a week on Aug 3. Going to be tricky working around a mini-trip to Dayton the following week and other dr appts. but we will make it work! Have to get him into shape before mid Sept!

Gail - So glad to hear that all has gone well.

Nan - glad that you are taking some time to travel.

Chris - Good to hear from you.

Well, I work tonight from 5:30pm to 11pm. My Aunt and I looked around at a her area to see if there was anything for sale but, there wasn't at this time. There is one that is abandon, there is a problem with the bank as the bank has taken it over. It is small but cute. And it is really close to my Aunt. We will have to wait to see what happens.

Hope that everyone is having a great day.

Good Afternoon:

I'm doing great and can now read without glasses. Imagine that! The surgery was designed to improve my long distance vision so this is a side benefit. I"m hoping I'll be able to drive without glasses. My check up yesterday was great and the doctor was jubilant. He's rather staid but yesterday he was all smiles and glowing from the inside out. I stuck a scissor in my eye when I was two and have a scar. He was concerned that this could cause complications and so he had extra staff, materials and equipment ready for any eventuality. Well, things went without a hitch and the surgery took no longer than it would have had the scar not been there. Talk about good fortune. Thanks for all the good energy you've been sending me.

We had an awesome day at the aquarium yesterday. Today was back to reality-got in my walk and then spent a couple of hours cleaning house. I washed 8 windows inside and out on the front of the house and pulled all the furniture out in the family room and living room so that area is nice an clean for another few weeks! I am starting to do a deeper clean to get ready for our trip-I like to leave things in ship shape so all I have to face is dust when I get back!!

Taking DH to the orthopedic surgeon this afternoon and hopefully we will find out if she thinks she can help his neck pain.

Had a wonderful day with my Aunt today. But, was had been woken by my son making a lot of noise before he went to work. Then the construction work going on out back didn't help any either. So, when I got home I took a nice long nap as the construction guys were gone and DS was not home. I had a nice long nap. emoticon

Hope everyone had a wonderful day.

Gail - So glad everything went well with the surgery.

Gail happy surgery is now behind you and it is just dealing with those drops you have to do! Thanks for the tips on savings. I knew and use a lot of them already but didn't know about a discount for Publix-will be sure to ask about that one!

We went to Tampa today to the aquarium and had a great time. It was 176 miles roundtrip for us and spent about 3 hours in there seeing all the exhibits. We got to pet different sea creatures and learned some interesting information. Best part was we had gotten our tickets off Living Social for $18 for 2 of us and regular admission is $22.95 for seniors so we saved quite a bit. Does anyone else ever check out Living Social for deals in their area? We have used them for other things and will be going to Daytona and staying on the beach next month with one of their offers.

The surgery is over and it went very well. Today I have my follow-up appointment.

I was reading Yahoo features and came across an article outlining several discounts for seniors that many people are not aware of. Here is the address:

Sandy I hope things work out for you if you decide to sell and downsize. I remember how long you looked to find a house that you really liked. I don't mind having a smaller place-less to take care of, heat and cool, etc.

I had to take a short nap this afternoon-I think too much heat and work outside this morning did me in. I did get up and make a small batch of chicken alfredo with a side of zucchini, squash and onion and it turned out really good. Even Abbie like the zucchini and squash!

I work today from 6:30pm to 11pm. I just rested all day and didn't do much. Did do some laundry. Business is starting to pick up again. I am meeting with my Aunt tomorrow and we are having lunch. I am thinking of down sizing so am looking at a place over by my Aunt as it is a gated community. It is a little bit longer distant to work only by about 10 minutes or so. But, it is really nice and I will be closer to her and it will save me money.

Hope everyone has a great day.

DG thank you for those tips. I will have to look into getting some coconut oil. I have Abbie on Blue Buffalo salmon food and salmon treats that is supposed to help the skin issues. I give her a fish oil pill for dogs but it is a real job to get her to swallow it. She is such a picky eater so have to be careful what I put on her food or she won't eat it. I hadn't tried the raw egg-she loves hard boiled ones! I will try some of these things as I sure don't want to keep her on meds all the time.
After my walk today, I worked in the park gardens for about 2 hours. We got the maint. men to help with the weeding but I did mainly pruning and tied up my climbing roses. Anything to keep from stooping over so much. I know I was soaked in sweat by the time I got home.
We are getting intermittent showers this afternoon. About time to get off of here and read for awhile.

Hi Friends!!
I took a nap yesterday afternoon. Was tired at normal bedtime but woke up at 5:45! Haven't seen the sunrise in a long time!! Guess I will skip the naps from now on. LOL

Pat, I am glad the family is here to help too! I can't do as much as I used to do!
How nice of your friends to replace your kitchen faucet for you!
My large dog had a lot of itching issues. So much so that a few months back none of us were sleeping very well with his scratching. I was told to try Dinovite (check it out on line) but it was a bit too expensive for me. Someone else told me she gave her large dog a tsp of coconut oil each day in his food. I started that and it helped a lot. After reading about Dinovite I started adding a fish oil pill (I carefully cut it open and put it on his food) and a raw egg on his food too. He is much better and the bruises and sores on his legs and body are healing. Evidently dog food is cooked at such a high temp it destroys a lot of the vitamins and enzymes that the dogs need. Hope this info helps your dog too. My dog isn't hardly scratching at all anymore and the dark circles under his eyes are almost gone too. (literally he had dark circles ... I didn't know dogs did that! LOL )

Sandy glad you are getting some rest!! So nice you are enjoying your job!
How nice to have a good visit with your Aunt.

Gail praying for your surgery! Hoping it is very successful!
We are going shopping today. Also Ddil has her mid-wife appointment. We should get a better due date today. ;-)

Dr Gma hope you have a good day and get those things done on your to do list.

Off to get some things done before we have to get going.

Gail - hope all went well today.

Well, I didn't wake up to about 11:30am today. I went over and saw my Aunt for a little while and talked with her. Then went to the bank and to the store. The boys had order a pizza and saved me some before they went out. I now have the house to myself and am relaxing. I am going to take a nap.

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Gail I hope your surgery went well today and you will soon have all this behind you.

I had to have Bill at Quest at 8 for his blood draw and they did the one for his appt. next week with his nephrologist and the following week with his internist. I was glad they would do both at the same time so he didn't have to get stuck again in less than a week. I will just have to go have mine drawn next week.
Once he finished, I took him to McDonalds for a quick sandwich (I had yogurt at home before we left) as we had to have Abbie at the vet by 9:30. We did arrive a little early to her appt. but they got us in early so it worked out. They ended up not drawing any blood since she had been there in May. Actually she didn't need an appt. according to the tech but since we were there, I had them check her skin-she has allergies and clean her anal glans. She came home with antibiotics and a prescription medication which is similar to Benadryl (I had been giving her that but it wasn't stopping her itching). Vet also put her on No-Scoot which is a fiber pill for dogs and a fish oil tablet for dogs! She hates pills so now I have fun poking all this down her. I am hoping this will help clear up the tiny little sores that are all up and down her spine. Poor thing scratches a lot and I bathe her weekly to help keep the allergens off of her. Vet said I can even do it more often if necessary. Without a lot of expensive testing, we aren't exactly sure what is causing her reaction.
I have a meeting so best shut this down and get moving.

Getting ready for my surgery. My neighbor who is staying with me overnight loves Cuban black beans and rice. It's a two day affair but I'm approaching the finishing line. Actually, it's a vegan dish, very tasty and very healthy.

Got to get things going here. Catch you all later.

Gail

Pat: The people in your community sound wonderful. What a blessing.

Sandy: So happy you love your job. It makes the time go by quickly, doesn't it?

Val and Nan: Hope you are doing well.

DG: What are you and your family up to today.

Angela: I didn't know that those retail shops have coupons. Do you get them on line?

NO Nap today. I slept till 11am. I had to be at work at 1:30pm today and I worked till 10:30pm. I am still part-time but, I do get a few extra hours in here and there. I am off tomorrow so I will sleep in. But, do have to go to the store since we are low on everything. I am really enjoying the job a lot.

Hope everyone has a great week.

A good day down south. I mentioned to a neighbor of ours who goes to the same church that we had to get our faucet replace this week and she sent her hubby over this afternoon to do it for us! He wouldn't take any $$ for doing it either. We will take them to lunch after church soon-they leave on vacation this Tues for 2 wks and I will get their mail for them.
Gail happy that the mix-up on the drops didn't cause an issue with your eyes. Those drops can be so confusing. I am lucky to have Bill here to put mine in for me. I won't know if they are helping till the end of Aug.
DG sounds like a busy, happy time at your house. Enjoy that GS but do be careful about the back. It is good the kids are there to help out.
Angela it sounds like you really did well on your shopping. I went to Kohls after church and spent my Kohls bucks and got a new nightgown for $7. Always feels good when you come home feeling like you got a bargain.

Hi Friends!!
Hurray I seem to be on a much better schedule! So happy to be posting on my teams again! Sorry I didn't get here yesterday. It was a busy day with all the family here. We had a wonderful time and celebrated the July birthdays!

Sandy thanks! I am feeling better. I get tired if I stand too long but just take some time to sit and have things to accomplish while I am sitting so I don't feel like I am "wasting" time. ;-)
Glad you have a/c!!
We are having our normal July temps of triple digits. I spend a lot of time inside. ;-)

Pat thanks for the words of caution. I knew I needed to be careful and was paying attention to the baby's weight gain and then all of a sudden it was too much and I was down with my back for about 3 days. It still tires easily so I am being very careful and thankfully my children are doing much of the lifting for me. I am so thankful they don't mind!
Glad your temps have dropped to the 80s.
Good for you and DH to take the day off. We all need a good rest once a week!

Lynn thank you for giving others help so they might be able to change their situation. I know Jesus is the best way to help them change but they have to choose Him too. Sorry it is hard to earn their trust and trying to teach them. I can't imagine how challenging it must be!!

Gail glad the eye drop mistake hasn't mean a change in your surgery date. I know how easily it is to mix up those eye drops. My Father in law stopped his glaucoma eye drops after his cataract surgery when the surgeon told him he was healed after the cataract surgery that he could stop *all* the eye drops. He stopped the glaucoma eye drops too and that he wasn't supposed to do! My DH didn't catch it for a year when he took his Dad to the eye Dr to check on the glaucoma. More damage had already been done, sadly! Drs don't realize they need to be more specific!
Glad you have a/c too. It can be miserably hot upstairs without a/c even up north.

Angela yes, I know about those long stories! ;-) I am glad you and your DD have one another! Glad your shopping day was a success. Emotions do run high sometimes.

Hugs and blessings to you all!

Yes, my DD lives with me until God calls her to start a new life and build hers. It's a long story. Yesterday was one of roller coaster emotions but at the end of the day we spent a third of what should have been spent due to what good bargains we found.

WE also were able to buy really good fresh vegetables and fruit to use in cooking this week. So I consider the day a success.

Good Morning:

What a screw-up I am! I confused my drops and tapered off one I should be taking 4xth/day and taking 4x/day I should have been tapering off. I spoke with the ophthalmologist on call and he said to just finish off correctly. As long as my eye is fine no worries. Tuesday I have a cataract operation on my right eye. My sil was supposed to take me but he forgot and scheduled an appointment the could not change. My neighbor said she'd take me so I'm set. When my daughter found out she hit the ceiling because my sil didn't tell her. She would have taken off work.

There have been many times in my life that I was emotionally devastated when someone supposedly close wasn't there for me. Because I didn't feel I could face rejection I didn't want to ask my daughter. She has always been there for me, but still I didn't want to ask. She made it very plain that I was to go to her if anything comes up. It's nice to know she will be there. I guess we all carry some baggage.

Yesterday was one of very few days that I had the ac go on. My upstairs is a good deal warmer than the first floor (heat rises) but with the ceiling fan on. What a difference it makes. For the most part it has been warm during the day and cooler at night.

I never got to the farmer's market yesterday because it was pouring off and on. Next week....

Wishing you all a fine Sunday.

Gail

Angela: emoticon on the weight loss.

Lynn: What do you teach at the prison? My neighbor was a volunteer 1x1 to teach a jail inmate to read. The guy improved some, but when he screwed up after discharge he went right back to jail. Lots of recidivism.

Pat: Glad your temps got a bit better. You were in dangerous territory.

Nan: Thinking of you darling.

Sandy: Hope you get a good nap in today.

Harplute, thanks for asking-I just keep on keeping on.

Back to school Monday and not something I am looking forward to. It appears 3-4 inmates may have moved to other units. Naturally, those are generally my best students and I get to break in a new batch of jerks. I'm just too old to be doing this. I think I can make it another year but I wish I didn't have to. Any ideas on winning the lottery? LOL

Our heat has been a bit more bearable-we are staying in the mid 80's and it has rained off and on today. We ended up getting 2" yesterday and so far about and inch today. I haven't been out a lot today. DH & I both decided we needed a rest day so slept in and then grabbed a bite at Cracker Barrel as I had a gift card that paid for our breakfast. Then it was on to Lowes as we needed to get a new faucet to be ready to get that fixed next week, we needed more filters for our filtration system and some sprinkler heads.
With the rain, I have enjoyed reading on my e-book (Lisa Jackson novel) this afternoon and I am 1/3 thru with it. I think by Mon I should be able to finish this one and then I only have one more and will have 11 days to read it.
Angela that is emoticon to have lost that much by eliminating HFCS from your diet. I remember many years ago when 7UP was just starting to add it to their soda. I worked for them back then and we employees were their guinea pigs (tasters)!
I am getting used to the eye drops twice daily. I won't know if this is doing what the doc wants till I return the end of Aug.
DG sounds like a great time with all your family together. Again, do be careful and don't reinjure the back. It can be a hard thing to heal if you keep injuring it. I know what my DH experiences and he has had surgery on his and still having issues with his neck.
Sandy it sounds like you are getting quite a few hours on your job. Are you still just part time?
I am done working till next June unless they need me for something special. I don't mind doing it each June but sure do not want a full time job!!! emoticon

Angela - emoticon on the weight loss. Coupons are my friend I use them all the time.

DG - How are you doing today?

Gail - How are your eyes doing since the surgery?

Pat - Is the heat any better today?

Well, we are to hit 90 today and tomorrow. Just glad we have AC and I work in a AC building. Got home at 1am last night and I go back in at 5pm today. It is getting warm out already.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Happy Saturday Everyone!!
It is a beautiful day here. Hot but it is July after all!! LOL Soon all the family will be gathered for middle DS's birthday dinner. Have enjoyed his visit. He is enjoying the baby and baby enjoying having another member of the family wrapped around his little finger. ;-)

Gail thanks! I will be careful. I forget and lift too much. Now that the baby is 17 lbs I have to be careful of the amount of lifting I do and how I do it. ;-) I made a list of sewing projects that I already have fabric and patterns for! My I will be sewing for a long while! LOL

Angela don't think we have met!! Glad you have joined our team. Do you and DD live together. Great binder ideas. I will have to consider that! We get lots of coupons too. DD and I live together. She is a real blessing to me especially since I lost my husband (her Dad) to cancer a few years ago. She has never married and it is a real joy to be around. My youngest DS and his family recently moved in with me too. They had a horrible apartment experience and it will help DD and I if they are here as well as they can save more money towards a house this way.

Hugs to you all!! Hope you have a great weekend!

It's been a busy week. Today I am taking my daughter shopping the list is long and as I told her the budget is small. She's pretty good about shopping for bargains and we always have a good time. One thing I did learn it's amazing the coupons you can print to use shopping. My daughter can only find jeans at Macy's or Jc Penny that fit comfortably. I found excellent coupons for each place and all I had to do was print them and of course remember to take them with us.

We are going to buy some binders. One is for these coupons. With Dividers with pockets we can put the coupons in folder pockets and list them by store. Then we just will need to weekly pick up the binder and make sure nothing has expired. Another one is for Christmas. We are going to put our family in the binder (a divider for each one), list ideas then what we got and daughter is even going to put where we "hide it" so I remember what has already been bought.

Eating? I lost four pounds since July 1. All I really have done is give up HFCS. (frustose corn syrup and reg. corn syrup). I am on my feet at work 4-7 hours at a time depending on the shift so at this time I am not really adding walking or other exercise. The discouraging part is just how much of our food has HFCS in it. This decision has forced me to go organic but I will admit I have more energy than before. My boss even mentioned he's noticed a diference in my energy. Before this I would have to sit after about an hour just because I lost my energy to gather more. I don't do that now unless it's to personalize a Bible.

I wish you all a blessed day.

Angela

Nan: Thinking of you and holding you dear.

Pat: Has your heat wave let up?

Vali: Where are you? We haven't heard from you in a long while.

Thanks Sandy and Pat, It is getting better. I just have to sit when I get tired and watch what I lift. Am doing well.

Sandy glad your hives are lessening!! How is the job at Kohl's going?

Pat is your part time job finished for this year? Hope you can get that kitchen sink replaced easily and not to expensively!

Sandy happy the medicine is working better for you and the hives are improving. What a relief.

DG sorry you haven't been feeling well. Do be careful and don' reinjure your back. How is it going with the kids living with you? Are you all settled in by now?

Remember I said the rain was missing us-well about 5 tonight the heavens opened up and I think we have gotten about 2 to 2 1/2 inches in about 90 min. I am not complaining as we need lots of rain because of the heat. I don't have to go "water the weeds" tonight.

DG - So good to hear from you. So, sorry that you have not been doing good but, glad you are on the mend.

Well, the new meds are working and the Hives are starting to go away. I just have a few but, they are not bothering me. Plus I got a good night sleep last night without the hives bothering me. emoticon I work tonight 5:30pm to 12am. So, I really need the sleep.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Hello Friends,
Here we go again! Trying to catch up with posts and making posts daily. After the bad cold improved and I was making progress, I injured my back lifting too much. Now that it has improved I am being more cautious and am trying to get everything in order again. I am making progress slowly! ;-)

DS#2 is home for a long weekend! So glad to see him again. He is the one that lives farthest from me. He helped me get my 65 lb "puppy" to the Vet yesterday for his yearly exam. All is well and he hates cars as much as he always has so I am glad DS could help me so I didn't re-injure my back. ;-)

I won't make this long so I am more likely to come back tomorrow and catch up to you all again!
Hugs and blessings!

Gail I think you sent me some of your karma-our kitchen faucet has to be replace-it has actually rusted out from the bottom! The washer is working off an on. I need to go today and look for a new faucet and we have to get someone to install it as Bill doesn't see well enough to do it.
Rain seems to be missing us the past couple of days. I did some weed pulling at home this morning but by 9:30 it is just too hot out there for me to deal. After walking and weeding I had to hop in the shower to cool down!

I've been very busy this week with one thing or another. I got new porch lights in now so I can read outside when there isn't too much light. That will be so nice. Yesterday it rained a lot so aside from getting out for a few errands I stayed in. On TV they are showing mostly reruns. Thankfully, there's PBS. I like their programs best of all. They are now running a series on the origins of man in Europe, Africa and Asia, including migration patterns and recent findings through our DNA.

Angela- So sorry for what you went through. Hope all is well now. Sounds like the Nurse PA isn't reading your chart very good.

Called my Allergy Doctor today as my hives were not getting any better. I told his nurse that I had have had 2 doses of one med that didn't work. As soon as I finished a week later I had hives again. I had a Xolair shot and the hives got worse. The only thing that has ever helped me is a Medose pack. Which is what they finally gave me today. I took that first dose and the hives have stopped and started to go away. I haven't had to take any Benadryl . Which I am glad as it was making me really dopy. I am feeling better.

Hope that everyone has a great weekend.

Lynn sure sounds like it has been a bad few days. Hope you can find a dr closer or at least one who is interested in YOU. I hate it when a practice goes to pot. DH's oncologist went with one of the big cancer centers and boy did they make changes and not for the better. DH stuck it out for 6 mo and luckily his dr decided this was not how he wanted to practice medicine and he gave them the boot! Now things are back to normal.

Rain is all around us today but non here today so far. I did my walk early and then deadheaded roses in the park-wanted to get it done before the real heat.

Lynn: You poor dear. What a mess! Aren't there any doctors and facilities closer to home? Where do you live in TX. When my son finished his training about 20 years ago they offered him a HUGE salary. He turned it down flat. He'd be the only specialist in a 300mile radius and there was no way he was going to shoulder that. Plus, the town where he'd be located was the pits. I'm sending good energy your way and will keep you in my thoughts.

Appt. #1 - back: Went well, have to go back in three months and will probably have to have another neurotomy in my right knee. I still owe a couple thousand on the last one.

Appt. #2 - Mom: she had two toenails removed and is marching right along. In fact, she is out getting ready to plant peas in one of her raised beds.

Appt. #3 - eye: Everything started going downhill from here. Good news is my vision hasn't changed much. Bad news is for some unknown reason I am losing blood flow to the right eye. Will "take a wait and see" approach. Took prescription down the highway thirty miles to discover my Lenscrafter store had closed. Sometime before I lose the money in my flexible spending account, in September instead of November because the company is changing managers, I have to take a day off work and go find another eyewear provider.

Appt. #4 - is the real %^&**&^%%$%^%&*(*. After seeing me 3-4 times a year for the last half dozen years ( her call, not mine), my primary physician last July told me I would not have to come back for an entire year. Hurray, right? So I need a refill on thyroid medication, call in, and am told I have to come in. I ask whether I need to schedule lab first and am told no, if the doctor wants it the doctor will schedule it. Okay, this is different from the last twenty times but I am a "good patient" who never makes waves so I say okay, etc. When I get to the office, I find that I have been assigned to a PA I have never seen before whose professionalism consists chiefly of calling me honey and little lady. She reorders the med but when I get copied the lab the next day online, I see that she did not even order the TSH, or the lipid panel, GSR, blood glucose, etc. that are routinely drawn because I have polycystic kidney and liver disease with renal insufficiency.

Added to which, this woman wants me to come back next week for a "well woman"exam. Like why am I taking three hundred mile round trips to accomplish one simple "doctor" visit? I e-mailed the nephrologist for an appointment for a follow-up visit so he can do what the primary didn't but I am so irritated as it appears I will be in the market for a doctor and I hate changing providers but this kind of treatment signals the practice is changing and not for the better.

Wow, I need to go plant some flowers or something after that rant. Forgive me, y'all.

Oh, did I mention I don't know what I am walking back into at work next Monday because an inmate in our region killed a correctional officer?

Had to be up early today as Abbie had to be at the groomer's at 7:30 and that is almost 30 min from us. Vickie & Sonny rode along and we had breakfast on the way home. Used a coupon so ate breakfast for $11. I got a few things done before we had to go back to pick her up at 10:30. I stopped at one of my favorite thrift stores on the way home and got myself a summer dress there. While I was trying it on, I dropped my glasses and the lens popped out so had to stop at Wal-Mart on the way home to get that taken care of.
I had boiled eggs yesterday so made some tuna salad for lunch. I would get busy but we are having a storm and Abbie needs me more than anything I could be doing. It will clear up soon and then I can get busy!!

emoticon Dr. Grandma to the Team!

Well, had my 6month mammogram and everything was fine. I have to go back in another 6 month to be check one more time and then it is once an year. They have been watching one side for a year to be sure that it hasn't changed. So, far so good. Hives have been good today. After the shot I had a break out which was to happen. But, I took Benadryl and made it through the night. Keeping my fingers cross that this works.

Hope everyone has a great week.
