Good Morning:

Well, Pat and Sandy, I never heard of rewards points. I did join something at office depot and best buy, but I didn't know you could use points to get things for free. I thought you only got dollars off a future purchase. Thing of it is that I don't spend much money on things. I got printer paper once at office depot and I got a wall mounting for a TV at best buy recently. That's it. Since organizing the basement and garage I have found enough office supplies for the rest of my life....literally. I have entire moving size boxes with all kinds of packing tapes; markers, pens and sharpies; envelopes; file folders; pads, computer paper, notepads and lined paper. twines; labels...the list goes on and on. Same thing for toiletries: soaps and shower gels; toothpaste, tooth brushes and dental floss; shampoo and conditioners; lotions and creams; razors and shaving cream, etc. I have three full floor to ceiling metal storage units in the basement with these boxes. Obviously I couldn't use all this stuff in a lifetime. I'll give a lot of the toiletries to the Salvation Army and share the office supplies with family and friends. Also, Travis is coming over on Monday to go through some boxes I've set aside and a few are filled with office supplies. I'll auction some of that stuff off.

As you know, I've been donating regularly to the Hospice Thrift Shop since Vic died almost 2 1/2 years ago. Well, one of the volunteers sends out thank you notes once a month to donors. One day she called me and wanted to get together. She lives in my area. Her husband also died of cancer and initially she just called to say hi and told me I could call her if I needed to talk to someone. We had a very long chat and I liked her a lot. I told her I was still up to my armpits getting rid of Vic's things, but that I would call her when the dust settles. I called her yesterday and again we had a nice conversation. We agreed to get together in the next week or two. This is a first for me, reaching out. I think it's a good sign. BTW, her friends were trying to convince her to move to a retirement center and her experience was the same as mine. Also, in terms of finances, like me, staying in her condo was much more affordable. See, already we have a few things in common.

Planning on reading today. I've three 2 week books that I need to finish. One I'm half way through and the others I haven't begun.

Sending you all a big hug,

Gail

Way to go Sandy. It is always good to get rewarded for being a good customer. I get rewards bucks at Bealls and of course use my reward points at Walgreens to help buy my eye vitamins which are very expensive.
My fitbit went haywire today. It registered my steps this morning and when I last looked I was over 11K and when I synced it later this afternoon it only registered 77 steps! I do not know what happened - it is like it reset itself. I am thinking I will put in a new battery in case that is the problem. If this happens again, I will contact the company and see what they can tell me.
Vickie & I got another bed weeded today. We are about to get caught up again and I will have our maintenance men working to get them mulched soon.
Gail I will be happy to tell you about the 17 Day Diet anytime. You do eventually get to eat grains again! but I am thinking I feel better without them so will eventually try to only eat a very limited amount..
Have a Super Weekend everyone.

So, The coupons are from rewards. I have a staples cards and each time I use it I get rewards points. Then at the end of the quarter or so they send me a coupon of all my savings points. It is the same with my Home Goods.

I was able to get almost the books done today. All the baking and the laundry. I even started packing up the food and games for the guys. So, I am ahead of the game. I am very much looking forward to my time alone and the peace and quiet.

I hope that everyone has a great weekend.

Cleaned house today and made some acorn squash soup. It was really good. I've still got some for the weekend: squash, a carrot, cinnamon, chicken stock, black pepper, half an onion diced, and some butter. After everything was all cooked I used my immersion blender, MMM

Stay warm and safe everyone.

Gail

Pat: Fantastic job on the weight loss. I may call you one of these days to get the particulars.

Sandy: Where in the world did you find those coupons? I usually only find those where they offer at most 50 cents off. Aldi's has great produce on sale this week: grape tomatoes 99 cents; celery 79 cents; 1 lb bag of mini red/yellow and orange peppers $1.29; mushrooms
(8 oz) 69 cents, avocados 49 cents. I don't know how much things cost where you live but those were great bargains for us.

DG: Sorry you were stressed out yesterday. Relaxing today? Have any thoughts on the features you want in a microwave? You might check out Consumer Report. You can probably find it in your local library.

Nan and Val: What are you up to?

Hello Friends,
What a busy day yesterday turned out to be, but so many things done that I needed to do! ;-) I feel lots less stress today because I got those things done yesterday. ;-)
Am searching for a microwave now. Mine died before Thanksgiving and I really need to replace it. I am looking forward to having one again. I never realized how many dirty pots and pans a microwave saves!

Pat, I know what you mean. I try to so hard to be a good mother in law. Mine wasn't a happy woman and never could see much good in life. I was so sorry I couldn't add some happiness to life for her. Although DH used to tell me I did, because she did love her Grandchildren and I married her only son. ;-) DFil became a much different man after my Mil passed. I was so thankful we had so much time with him. He was a very kind and gentle man.
Congrats on 14 lbs down!! Way to go!! Does this become a way of life or after losing the weight do you transition back to grains and breads again?

Gail so glad your BP was so good!! So glad you have been able to relax and rest!! LOL I had to laugh when I read your post about your MIL. I could have written that myself! ;-)
Congrats on getting your paper work in order. That is one thing I need to do is clean out the filing cabinet. Have many things we don't to keep anymore!!

Sandy so you aren't going on the trip? I thought you were all going. Hope you enjoy your alone time then! You are doing very well getting ready!
Congrats on the great shopping! Where do you get your coupons?

Hope Everyone has a great day!

Well, I got everything except for the books done. I will work on those while I do the baking . I found a bowl that I have been looking for at Home Goods. I had a coupon for $ 20.00. It was only 12.99. I got some little white balls to put in the bowl. So, I only spent $ 2.00. emoticon I went to Staples and I had $ 56.00 in coupon. I got us some paper, pens, Note book, clip board and planner and I didn't pay anything.

I am going to finish up on the laundry today. Also will wash the floor downstairs. Still doing spring cleaning.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Go Hawks!

Gail your post reminded me I want to take a day and go thru everything we have in our safe. Some things need to be pitched and I need to put notes on other things for our kids-just in case! I tend to hang onto things too long and it is time to shred a lot of paperwork that is no long relevant to anything!!!!
We woke up to another cool morning-41-but it is now a balmy 70 and sunny. I had to take Abbie to the groomer at 8:30 but by noon it was time to get out of the jeans and sweatshirt and into the capri pants and a t-shirt.
I did my walk after I dropped her off and put together a big pot of vegetable soup. I like it to cook a long time to let the flavors go thru it all. I plan to freeze some of it for later and we will keep enough for a couple of meals. I can only eat it on certain days as I can't eat all the vegetables in it every day.
I have completed 4 weeks on the 17 Day Diet and am down 14 lbs. I will be on it for several more months and am now in phase 2. It is healthy eating and I am happy it allows me 2 servings of fruit each day. I find I am not missing the bread and other grain products. I feel more energized without them and we are both trying to eat more "clean" foods. I am trying to completely eliminate the processed foods.

Good Morning:

I'll be running a few errands today and will also set up some file folders to get things organized. My paperwork is in many places throughout the house. Figure I'll set up a few folders every day till they're done. The rest of the day I'll get back to reading.

Stay warm and safe everyone.

Gail

Did get a few things done but, have a couple more things to do to get the guys ready for their trip. Then I have cookies to bake on Friday. I am going to try to make some more nuts also. I just 2 loads of laundry to do and I am done with that. Then I have the glass front of the fireplace to clean and the bed to blow up. Then I am completely done. And I can relax the whole time they are got. emoticon

I am starting to do some early spring cleaning. I found a couple of items that I have not used in a very long time that I am going to take in to see what they are worth. Also out a few things on e-bay.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Well, it's been quite a day: mammo, library, bank, PT appointment; appointment with decorator. I treated myself to dinner at Denny's: grilled wild salmon, mashed potatoes and broccoli. It's been a while since I ate out.

I forgot to mention something astounding. When I went for my annual checkup yesterday they took my BP. It was 100/70. It's been ages since it was that low. (I was especially surprised since I had a couple of cups of strong coffee for breakfast.) I'm convinced it has a lot to do with the absence of stress that has come about in the last month or so. Resting, reading and watching TV was just what I needed.

Gail

Pat: My mil was horrible and mean to me; she never forgave me for marrying her son. I swore I would never be that kind of mil. I'm sure you'll do fine tomorrow; I'm cheering for you.

DG & Gail it is wonderful when one can have a good relationship with the in-laws. I lost my mom not long after I first married and so wanted my MIL to be a 2nd mom but it never seemed to happen. I was lucky to have my mom's sister to fill that spot.
Sandy I hope you do get to relax and enjoy while everyone goes skiing. Sometimes we just need a little "me" time. I sent DH to W-Mart today with one of his buddies-it was nice to just have the house to myself for about 90 min!
I got another bed cleaned today and the maintenance man got the mulch spread on the 2 bed by our clubhouse and office. I am working hard to get this job done so they aren't doing it in 90 degree weather.
Abbie is going to the groomer tomorrow and has to be there at 8:45 so will have to be up early to get her out, etc. I have been brushing her off and on today to be sure she has no knots.
Tomorrow ends 4 weeks of being on the 17 Day Diet. I am anxious to see how well I did. I will be following it for several more months to hopefully get to goal.

You are not a only a wonderful mother and grandmother, you're a great mother-in-law. I try to be a good mother-in-law with my sil and dil; so important for harmony in the family. Of course it helps a lot if they are very good people.

Hello Friends,
Sorry I missed yesterday. When Ddil and DS came to drop off the baby we got a surprise. Ddil stayed too! She just needed a good day of rest. She knew we'd love to care for the baby and when she could nap she did. What a special day to spend with both of them!! ;-)

Pat glad you have so many friends to stop by and spend some time with you! Congrats on all the tax work done! Sorry the gal didn't weed the gardens like she promised.

Sandy glad you got some cleaning done! I need to do the same. ;-)
Thanks for asking how I am! Am so much better and it feels so good to feel so good!

Gail you are right I don't live on the east coast but have lots of family that does! They are fine, thankfully!

Nan hope the extra sleep helps you heal faster!

Sea hope you join us often. Hope SparkPeople helps you to become Seaofbliss!

Hope Everyone has a great day. Glad the grocery shopping is done today and hoping to get some other things done!

Got a full day today: Annual mammo, PT appointment and meeting with the decorator to look at furniture.

Seaofcarnage: Welcome to our team. You know you can surely stay with the team anywhere on the globe as long as you have internet.

Sandy: It doesn't sound bad at all for you to sit back and just take care of yourself; it sounds wise and great.

Nan: You feeling better today?

I got most of my running around done yesterday. It drizzled most of the day and then started raining about 7pm. It is most cloudy today. We have a storm coming in this weekend. I going to pick a couple things up for Super Bowl today then finish up cleaning the house and work on the books. BIL and his girlfriend arrive this 1 week from today. And DH and DS all ahead to the mountains to ski. I am staying home to run the business. But, mostly staying home for a break from everyone. I know that probably sounds bad but, Mom need a breaks from the cooking, cleaning and just hearing her name every 5 minutes. I can relax and watch what I want to watch. Do the things I want to do. And basically just get things done.

Nan - I'm sorry your sick I hope you feel better soon.

SEAOFCARNAGE - Welcome to the Team! I hope you are able to join us from overseas.

Pat - You are a busy lady.

Gail - I glad that you have such good neighbors.

Val - How is your week going?

DG - How are you doing?

How everyone has a great day.

Dropping in for a moment to say good night! Another cool and windy day here but I still bundled up and walked in the morning. We ran a couple of errands and this afternoon I did some weeding in the park. A lady who does help told me she would get it done but she never did so I had to get the beds cleaned as I have mulch coming tomorrow and do not want it put on the beds with them full of weeds! I hate when people aren't dependable.
When I finished that, I worked some on our income taxes and when I get the rest of our 1099's I will be ready to file!

Good Afternoon! Trying to get involved, but will only be stateside until March. I am hoping to still be able to connect abroad. I know I can go into larger villages and connect, but maybe I will get lucky and my "home" will have interwebs within the village. We shall see.

Good Morning: This morning my neighbor will be helping me organize again. In the early afternoon I have an annual female checkup.

Don't think anyone on this team lives along the section of the east coast that is in the path of the storm. We are, as usual, cold with a bit of snow.

Just a quick note. Just wanted to say for those on the East Coast Please be safe and Listen to the Weather. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you in the wake of Juno. I hope it ends up not being as bad. Stay safe and stay warm.

Didn't get anything done yesterday but, hoping to get things done today. Did do some cleaning and dusting in preparing for BIL arrival. It is hard to believe that January is almost over. Time is flying by again.

Wishing all of you a wonderful day.

I hope everyone is enjoying the day. Start of another week-hard to believe this is the end of the month-January is nearly gone. Time certainly seems to fly by.
We are sunny out but extremely windy. Some of the gusts are up to 35 mph according to the noon news. I guess we should be thanking our lucky stars that it is just wind and no snow. I thought the wind was going to blow me down to the edge of the lake this morning when I walked.
Gail we do tend to be social people. We had friends drop in this morning for a visit-unexpected but still nice to sit and chat. I guess after years of living "on the road" so to speak, we met a lot of folks and when anyone is in the area, they know they can stop by to catch up. We play cards most Sundays after church with Vickie & Sonny and their daughter and her DH.
Time to haul out what I have gotten so far for taxes and start work on that. I want to get them done early in Feb.

Hello Friends, Happy Monday!!

Pat sorry you were so sick in 2013. Sounds like you had a good time yesterday.

Sandy hope you have success getting things done today.

Gail your reading 2 books at the same time just tickles me. Not sure why but I just can't help smiling when I think of it. Glad you enjoy reading so much. Do you enjoy reading a book for a 2nd time? I even enjoy watching a movie more than once. Drives my DS nuts. ;-) Funny how we are all so different.
I do shop all year round for Christmas and birthdays. I find I spend less money that way and can give nicer gifts. Just have to remember to give them. After Christmas DD reminded me I bought a crocheted hat for my Ddil and didn't give it to her. LOL

Off to do more decluttering!!
Hope Everyone has a great day!

Good Morning:

For several weeks I've been stiff when I get up and my left arm/shoulder has been hurting from the arthritis. I'm sure some pain comes from the weather, some from lack of PT exercise and some from getting into sugar and gluten. For the past couple of days I've stayed away from gluten and sugar. I find eating a piece of fruit in the morning (apple or orange) helps. Saturday I made chicken soup and that has been a comfort. I put some carrots, onion, garlic and about 2T of cider vinegar in a large pot along with the chicken legs, water and bouillon cubes. Very good. I enjoy boiled chicken so that has been my protein. Yesterday I made a veggie crustless quiche and will have that for breakfast or lunch this week. I'm not displeased with my food.

Well, I finished one of the two week books yesterday and read a bit more of the 4 week book. DG, I would have difficulty keeping track of characters and plot but I find if I read some of both each day it works. Today I'll start the 2nd two week book, but will focus on finishing the 4 week book. Both mysteries. One is translated from Finnish...takes place in Helsinki....the other is translated from Norwegian...a Norwegian homicide detective is investigating the murder of a Norwegian national killed in Australia.

Gail

Pat: Sounds like you get together with some friends every day. So good that you have people around that you enjoy.

Val: When the body says rest you have to rest. Don't feel guilty about putting off chores.

Sandy: Glad you are posting and things are looking a bit better with the business.

DG: Hey, getting an early start for Christmas is not a bad idea. Before I wrote checks for gifts I'd shop all year long.

Sheryl: How are you? Everything OK?

Nan: What are you up to this week?

Gail - I have a rice cooker and only use Jasmine rice. I friend of mine from Japan turned me on to it years ago. I really love it. Glad that you are enjoying too.

Val - I hope you are getting some good rest. As it looks like it will be a busy rest of winter.

Pat - Glad that your weather has been good.

DG - Glad you had a nice day with Family and Friends.

Sheryl - How are you doing?

I have a few things to do and I am going to start on the books. It was a very nice day yesterday and looks to be another one today. We are excepting rain on Tuesday.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Val hope you got some extra rest today. Sounds like your job just exhausts you. I know health issues also compounds things so....get that rest.
I never got a flu shot until last year. Bill isn't able to take them so he never does. However we both came down with the flu in 2013 and Bill ended up in the hospital and it went into pneumonia so I hope to not get it again and "share" it with him. I am in a difficult spot but have gotten the shot again in 2014, Scary no matter what one does.
Sandy glad to hear you are feeling better.
DG how nice things are coming together for you also. Feeling better and getting everything put away. That makes for a good day.
We went to church this morning and everyone came back here to play cards. It was chilly enough that we had to turn on our heater in the Florida room but it soon warmed up out there and had to shut it off. Ladies were victorious.

Sandy, our hospital is totally full right now. And yesterday there was a line of people waiting to register to be seen in the emergency room that stretched out into the hall! Most of what we're seeing right now are respiratory illnesses, though we haven't had nearly as many positive tests for influenza as you might expect. But just in case, we are sending all of our specimens to the state lab for confirmatory testing, whether they are positive or negative.

DG, I've read about exposure to mercury contributing to the development of Alzheimer's and other neurological disorders. The flu vaccine is about the only one that contains mercury anymore, isn't that special? I'll be very happy when this winter's flu season is finally over...

I'm just being lazy today. I need to buy some groceries. I need to bring my laundry in and fold it. (My laundry room is attached to my apartment, but not actually inside the apartment.) I need to go to the post office tomorrow to pick up a package. The list of things I need to do with my days off this week just keeps getting longer and longer, and I'm just too tired to handle much of it today. I'm thinking that I may take a nap and then fold the laundry. That sounds like a good days "work" for me right now. I hope that you've all been having a great weekend.

There was much rejoicing!

Happy Sunday Friends! What a lovely day it is here today. Church today was wonderful. We all had lunch together and that is always nice. Now we are home and I have gotten the back of my car emptied from the DS's move. It is nice to have it all unpacked in the house as well and all is put away or tossed.

Pat, I can't tell you how wonderful it is to be well again. Now there is so much I want to get done. I am making a list and checking it twice!! LOL Saw a fb post -- only 48 weeks until Christmas! ;-)

Val thanks for agreeing. I am sorry it is pushed like that. DH saw studies that folks that take the flu shot 5 consecutive years have a huge increase in chance of getting Alzheimers. That is scary when so many jobs and schools "require" it !!
So sorry you lost your DH too. Was it an accident? He was very young wasn't he? I thought mine was young at 60!!

Sandy thanks! Hope you are soon feeling wonderful too.

Gail glad you enjoyed the rice. Great idea to ask him for a recommendation. Jasmine and Mahatma are what I use and always get brown rice.
I had to laugh about reading 2 books at once. I think I'd have a hard time keeping the story lines straight. ;-)

Hope you all have a great evening!!

Good afternoon

A couple of weeks ago I went to a local supermarket where a lot of foreign students and professors shop. I needed some rice and noticed a man studying the selection. He was from Africa by his accent, and I know that rice is a staple in many African diets. He recommended Jasmine rice. Usually I buy the cheapest I can find, a store brand or, at best, Uncle Ben. Well I don't eat that much rice so I bought a small bag and thought I'd give it a try. It wasn't. Dry expensive. Long story shot, it is BY FAR the best rice I've ever had. I'm a convert!

Returned five books to the library yesterday and picked up four moe. Three are two week books from outer library loan. I had started a book earlier, but I thought I'd best read the two week books ASAP, so I'm now reading two books at once. I rarely do this.

It's a good day to sit back and relax, so that's what I'll do.

Wishing you all a restful Sunday.

Gail

Val - Our hospitals up here are completely full from the Canada board to the California board. They are using hall ways and some ORs rooms. So, it isn't a surprise that you guys are really busy. Not sure what is going on but, there are a lot of sick people.

DG - Glad that everyone is feeling better and back on the mend.

Pat - How is your diet going? How is DH doing?

Gail - Glad that you are done with your remodel. Now you can enjoy.

Penny - Hope you are feeling better.

Well, today I have a few things that I have get done. Then it is home to watch the All-Star NHL game and Football game.

Hope that everyone had wonderful weekend and are staying warm.

DG, I feel the same way about the flu shots and I could show you data showing that even in years where they don't totally miss the boat with the varieties of flu that it covers (like they did with this year's shot), it's really only about 2% effective at best. But I kind of have to get it because of working in a hospital. Some years I haven't gotten it, but this year I felt a LOT of pressure to get it (so I did) and I suspect that in the foreseeable future the hospital where I work will probably start requiring people to get it if they want to work there. emoticon

Gail, I would love to go to symphony concerts here in town but I just can't drive at night. The thing that was the hardest for me after my husband died was very strange. It was going to the grocery alone. Randy and I used to do it together and we always had a lot of fun doing it. I waited for as long as I could before going to the grocery after his death, and I ended up crying in the frozen food section of the store. It's been almost 15 years so that doesn't happen anymore, but I'll never forget how hopeless I felt crying in the frozen food aisle of the grocery. Hopefully one day you'll be able to really enjoy classical music on your own, but for now it's okay to have a hard time with whatever you have a hard time with. It happens.

I'm so glad that my work week is over. Today the emergency room was busier than I have ever seen it in the 14 years that I've worked at this hospital. emoticon And we were short a person because the gal who calls in "sick" at least two Saturdays a month did it again and our boss didn't try to get anyone to replace her. emoticon But we made it through and I survived...and tomorrow I an sleep as late as I want to. emoticon I hope that everyone is having a fabulous weekend.

There was much rejoicing!

Gail what a major milestone for you and glad to hear you enjoyed it and did well with the trip downtown. emoticon for you.

Sandy I can just imagine how the grocery shopping wore you out. It wears me out even when I am not ill!

DG how nice that everyone is on the mend in your family and DS is back to work.

Today was 61 when I woke and we did get to 66 but then it started falling and tonight we are to get down to 39! Quite a change. We cleaned house today and I did a bit of paperwork (paid bills, filed, etc). I have made a pot of chili (had to change it up so it would be compliant with my diet but it tasted good to me).

Hi! It has been a successful Saturday here. It is so good to feel good!!

Sandy glad you are feeling better too!! My DS is doing well. He went back to work this week and has done well. Going to the mountains sounds like a lot of fun! Hard to believe that Feb. is so close already!
Good for you for resting today!! Amazing how being sick can put us so far behind isn't it?

Penny sorry everyone has been so sick.

Pat I love gardens but you are right there is always something to do there and I don't spend my time there. I don't know how to compromise on the 2. Any ideas?

Gail so proud of you for going to the concert and doing so well.
No, I don't take a flu shot as I never see anyone get any benefit from it. It has 500,000 pbm compared to the FDA recommended 20,000 pbm limit of mercury in it. and that is just one reason. ;-)
So happy for you that you can hang pics now and make the new space really your home.

Hugs to all may you all have a great Sunday!

Good Morning:

The symphony was great and I really enjoyed it. I'm still not comfortable driving around downtown at night in winter, but hey, I got through it well. It was a big deal for me to go alone andI handled it without any emotion. Well, it's taken over two years but I got there. For a long time I'd weep bitterly wherever I was when I heard classical music, especially piano music.

The renovations are done and will now I'll focus on putting up pictures and getting some new furniture. My food has been terrible for the past few months and I'm so scared to get on the scale. Got to get with the program and also do PT and some cardio. I've just got to.

Gail

Penny, Sandy and DG: Glad you are all doing better. I guess one benefit to being a hermit in winter is that I haven't had to deal with catching stuff from others. Did you all get the flu shot? I get one every year.

Pat: You continue to inspire me with your food and exercise. You go girl!

Sandy glad you are finally feeling better. Sorry to hear no one went to get groceries while you were down and out. Don't tire yourself out too much-shopping is work.

Gail do you have a friend who would like to go to the concerts with you? Even before my 1st husband passed away, he wasn't able to go to a lot of things but I had a friend and she & I would both go to concerts or ballgames, etc together. After we were both widowed, we traveled some and continued that practice till I remarried and she retired and moved away.
Glad you have a nice neighbor who is such a help to you. Is the basement the last area you have to finish cleaning out?

Another warm day here. Took DH for his blood draw to check his PSA after my walk and we will get the results on the 2nd. Vickie and I rescued some baby agave plants today. Then we worked cleaning an area to plant them in! Always work in the gardens it seems.
She & I did some shopping this afternoon. Glad we got out there as it is raining now and will be raining thru tomorrow morning. Then cooler weather moves in for the next week.

A lot of people at church caught the bug & then got it again after they thought they were over it. One lady kept saying that she'd had the flu shot & didn't understand why she'd gotten it twice already. Just be glad when spring is here! Tired of being indoors!

Have gotten up to 230 steps on my ski machine. I hadn't thought I'd gotten so weak the last 3-4 years with so much surgery & hospital stays. i'm really hoping that this year is hospital clear!

Well, I am finally feeling better and now I am going to the store since no one went while I was sick. There is nothing in the cupboards. Will do a big shop today and then do a smaller one later as my BIL will be arriving on Feb. 4th. They will be all going to the mountains to ski from the 4th to the 6th. Then they will stay here with us till the 8th. So it is just a very short visit.

Dg - How are you doing? And how is your Daughter's husbands doing?

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Hi Friends!!
I am among the living once again. Going out to dinner with friends tonight. Have been house bound too long but am better and that is the main point!! ;-)

Gail so glad you are getting work done in the basement! You go Girl!! I am getting so ready to tackle some myself!
If the concerts are something you really enjoy is there a friend that lives close or would drive and see you inside safely that would go with you? I know these choices are hard. I hate making them but I am determined to keep living. Easier said than done so please don't feel like i am preaching at you, more to myself than anyone! ;-)

Pat congrats on the grocery shopping and preparing to eat well!! Way to Go!!!

Nan that is a good choice too!

Hugs to all and hope you have a great day and a wonderful weekend!

Gail,
We also have a good Com. theater here, which we enjoy.

However, we no longer get the season tickets, just go
during the other months (not winter) which works
great for us.

Enjoy your day, after having a busy day earlier, Nan

Good Morning:

Well, I'll get my butt out of the house tonight to a concert. I have season tickets (4), one a month for January, February, March and May. It's the Madison Chamber Orchestra and they always feature very well-known international artists. Vic and I used to go but when he got sick we stopped. This is the first time I'll be going by myself. The only drawback is that I really don't like going out in the winter at night, or during the day for that matter. This may be the last season I go.

My neighbor and I worked on the basement for several hours yesterday and did a lot, but there's still a lot to go. I was so tired you could have pushed me over with a feather. Going to kick back today and take it easy.

Hope you all have a good day.

Gail

A beautiful day down south-we got up to 76! However it isn't going to last-the cold from up north will move in late tomorrow and looks like we will be in the 60's and possibly the 50's for the next week or so. Guess this is going to be one roller coaster of a winter for all of us.
Had a good day walking-over 12K. Vickie and I did our grocery shopping and lots of good things to eat. I froze berries (straw, black, and raspberries) and will use them in smoothies. I make them with kefir and the fruit with a bit of plain yogurt.

Good Morning:

Going to be working on the basement this morning with my neighbor's help. Last week we got a lot done and filled almost three large garbage bags with stuff to be thrown out. We also organized a lot of stuff. This all takes time, but slowly and surely I'm getting there.

Started a new book last night, THE BAT, by Jo Nesbo. Liked the first few chapters a lot.

All have a good day,

Gail

I agree Gail-we have to have a reward occasionally. Life always needs a reward from time to time. I am on this 17 day diet and now into the 2nd phase of it but in 2 weeks, I am going to have a strawberry shortcake. Friends want us to take their daughter to Plant City where the Strawberry Festival is held, We haven't been there in 4 yrs so I know I am going to indulge and planning for it now!!!!

Happy Hump Day!! This week has moved along quickly! I finally had a good solid night's sleep last night. Amazing what a good night's sleep will do. ;-)

Pat think you are right, there are good home remedies that work for us. So thankful for that! I use apple cider vinegar too. Glad you were able to get so much work done in the garden again!

Gail Spark People says give in to them. Just in moderation. Then you don't feel deprived, can move on and go back to healthy eating. I find that liberating! Just have to keep it in control and not let it be often. ;-)
Glad you are enjoying the books!

Hoping to get some things done today but moderation is a good word for me to remember! ;-)

Good Morning:

Well, I finished Redemption yesterday and will start today on Kaminsky's third book in the Lewis Fonesca series, MIDNIGHT PASS. I'm really into this Fonesca character.

I usually don't have a sweet tooth, but every now and again.... Well, yesterday was an "again" and I went out for a turtle sundae. Mea Culpa. I postponed it all day but around 7pm I just took off. We have a local custard shop and that's where I went. It's a few miles from my home, so thankfully, it takes a real urge for me to get up and go. I have this anywhere from 1-3 times a year. Some years I don't go at all. How do you cope with your food urges?

Be safe and stay warm everyone.

Gail

Val anytime I feel like my throat is getting sore, I drink warm water with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and it seems to kick it. I understand that the vinegar can even help with strep throat. I know some people detest the taste but it doesn't bother me. If I am coughing, I drink hot tea with honey and the apple cider vinegar. I guess we all have home rememdies that works for us.
Sandy nice to hear from you. Hope you are feeling better and praying business is improving which will help your finances.
We started out cool this morning (54) but warmed up to 71 this afternoon. I had to wear my earmuffs when I walked. Vickie & I worked for about 90 min in the garden and got our 160 ft bed cleaned out again. It was looking pretty bad. We just keep plugging away.
I had to quit before noon as we had company coming at 12:30 so needed time to clean up. Friends came after dropping their furbaby at the groomer and we had lunch at Cracker Barrel and then played cards. The ladies were victorious.

Gargling salt water is good because the salt breaks up the mucus in your throat, and bacteria love living in mucus. I like to do it with warm water just for the comfort factor, but cold will help, too.

I have to get ready to go to work. I'll talk to all of you later.

There was much rejoicing!

Morning Friends,
Each day I am a bit better than the day before. One of these days I am going to wake up and this chest cold will be a thing of the past!! Yippee!!

Lynne glad you made it to exercise class!! I was ready to start my day with exercise and read here I shouldn't til I am well. So am waiting. I have kept of the weight I lost while sick!!

Pat that is amazing but I find weeds grow here most of the winter too. Our crepe myrtles are some of the last blooming spring flowering trees. Pansies will grow all winters most years. I need to get some they are so pretty at the front door but it is almost too late. Our hyacinths and daffodils have sprouted. Noticed them last week. Neighbors across the street that face south will have them blooming soon. Our side faces north so it is usually a month later before ours bloom.

Val hope you feel better quickly. I also take St John's Wort, Echinacea and a zinc lozenge. Forgot about the salt gargle. Mom had us do that so much as children. Also saw the recipe for home made cough medicine which is an (a purple but any color will do) onion cut and laid in rings in a bowl drizzled with sugar or honey. Let it sit over night and use the syrup it makes by the tsp full when needed. Mom made that for us too. It worked and really didn't taste that bad! ;-)

Gail did you see the quote below in my post yesterday? It is so true!

Sandy hope you are feeling better very soon!

Hope you all have a great day!

Well today I got out to pick up my new glasses and then went to Walgreen's to buy vitamin C and EmergenC because my ex DH seems to have taken all of it with him after we divorced. emoticon I feel a lot better today but my throat is starting to feel scratchy again so I think it's time to gargle some salt water, take some EmergenC and get to bed early. What a thrilling life I live these days. emoticon

Gail, I have always appreciated some opera...a little bit...just not the operas that I had to play in. I like Mozart operas and Puccini, but I still absolutely detest Wagner operas. Maybe one day I'll come to enjoy those, too, but for me they are just too heavy and dark. (Hitler loved Wagner so that's another reason to not like his operas, but basically I just don't like any of his music.) Music has always been a huge part of my life and I have very eclectic tastes. But what I love he most is music that features strings, especially violins. I guess that probably has to do with the fact that I'm a violinist and so I'm biased. emoticon

Well my throat really is starting to hurt again so it's definitely time to do something about it and then go to bed early. I hope that all of you are feeling quite well and that the new week has started out well for you.

There was much rejoicing!

Good evening, nice to see more of you posting. Welcome to our chat.

It was another full day for me, up to walk, then off to the Monday market to get some fresh fruit and vegetables, when we got back home, I gave Abbie a bath and then headed off to do some weeding in the park. Trying to start getting the gardens ready for spring but no pruning yet-too early as we could have some cold weather thru Feb. I filled a 7 gal bucket with weeds! Too bad they don't take a break in the winter! Can you believe one of my crepe myrtle trees is blooming now!

Sandy hope you get to feeling better soon.

DG sounds like you are recovering quickly. Hope you continue to get better every day.

Good Morning team! I woke late this morning and had `5 minutes to get to exercise class - but I made it!! I looked so sleepy when I walked it I got teased by group fitness friends! After the first few minutes of actually moving I was awake! Wonderful how exercise can make you feel!

Today is sunny and gorgeous so I am going to finish up catching up on my emails and small tasks and then outside for a walk - thats the plan!

Lynne
