First I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. If you are out and about, be safe-I always worry about the other driver-I don't know if they will be sober. Have seen some awful accidents over the years on New Year's Eve. A horrible way to end the year.
We are going to an early (4:30) dinner with our friends Vickie & Sonny and will spend a quiet evening playing cards. Our community has a dinner and dance but Bill can't stand to sit in the chairs in our community building for an extended period so we never attend that. I used to host an open house but haven't the past couple of years. I just don't seem to have it in me for all the entertaining these days.
We have another cool (65) degree day with rain and a bit windy. I know compared to what a lot of you are enduring this must sound balmy but to us it is COLD!!! emoticon
emoticon emoticon emoticon
Here is to a great start to each of you for 2015.
emoticon This will be the 1st day of the best year that you can make it. Let's all get healthy together and make wise choices for ourselves.

Good Morning:

Well, we are in a cold spell (-1 F) but it's all right; we've had much worse. No snow and I'm glad for that.

We hit a snafu yesterday. When the carpenter came to put the wood baseboard down in the master bathroom he discovered that the baseboard was lower than the finished wall where the tiles had been. The painter will take care of that next week and then the carpenter will be able to finish that off and the plumber will be able to install the toilet and shower head. So what's another couple of weeks? The glass guy came to take measurements for the glass door on the shower and that will take 2-3 weeks, so it will be that long before I will have full use of the master bathroom. Not so terrible.

Last night my daughter called to let me know Hannah, my granddaughter was taken on as a permanent employee yesterday. Hannah graduated from college this past summer and took an internship in Chicago. I'm so proud of her. She is very responsible and quite a polished girl. During her internship she has also been doing volunteer work for the local animal shelter. It's great that the internship turned into a permanent job with decent pay. It's really great because it's in her field, Public Relations and Marketing.

I've been reading more mysteries and started another Carolyn Hart series involving a sleuth who is a ghost. Haven't really gotten into it.

Sending you all hugs and wishing you all a wonderful 2015.

Sandy glad you are taking time to relax. We all need to recharge our batteries every so often.

Gail how wonderful that you remodeling is almost at an end. We just redid things in our family room and that was exhausting! I can't imagine doing the whole house. You have come so far this past year. You should be so proud of yourself.

I had big plans for today but Mother Nature had other plans. I woke to drizzle and overcast and that pretty much describes my day. No outside work as planned. I don't know if I will be able to get more of the Christmas decorations down tomorrow or not. I won't take them down if it is damp as I don't want to deal with mildew later on.
We doggy sat for friends and then went to a few thrift stores between their dr appointments.
Guess we will have a quiet day tomorrow-breakfast with our group and thinking just the 2 of us will do an early New Year's Eve dinner to avoid the crowds and then home and stay in and away from the crazies.

Well, Gail I won't complain about 28 degrees this morning here with your 4. BRRRRR! that is cold. I was going to go to the store today but, DH said No. So, I will go tomorrow when we both can go. Today is trash day and I can't move the truck to the cud-de-sac as the trash guy gets up-set as he can't turn around even though he has a lot of room. It is just one guy. The other two guys don't have a problem.

So, today I am not doing anything but, relaxing for once. Yes! The books are only going to take me a couple of minutes to do as we didn't do much. So, I am going to relax.

Hope everyone is having a good week. emoticon

Good morning: It's 4 F right now but may warm to the double digits. We had some sun yesterday and that was great. Very fortunate for us there has been no snow. We may get some this weekend.

Well, things are really closing out the year with a flurry of activity. Yesterday Dirty Ducts came and cleaned the duct work throughout the house. Today the carpenter is coming to put finishing touches in the master bath. Also, the glass guy is coming to measure the door that's needed for my walk-in shower. Tomorrow the electrician will be here to put in some outlets and take care of all the new lighting. I went to pick up the new light fixtures yesterday and the entire back of my SUV is filled with boxes. I don't want to drive until all of that is unloaded.

Next week the painter will come to do some touch-ups and the plumber will install the shower head and toilet in the master bathroom. Then it's a matter of hanging the pictures and getting some new furniture. First I'll be focusing on the living room. I've only one chair there. LOL

Sending you all a big hug and hope things go so well for you all as we close in on the end of the year.

Gail

Sandy you make me cold just reading that temp. We are back to 81 today. It is just great to be wearing shorts the end of December. We are sleeping with the windows open. Went to the flea market today and got some fresh veggies and oranges. We also picked up a neat cast iron bird bath for the park garden.

Well, I'm coming into the home stretch. Dirty Ducts is here now cleaning the ducts in my home. I've been living here over 37 years and I've never had it done. I'm told I'll see a big difference with my allergies. Some local shoppers flyer had a $50 off coupon that I'll be using.

It's sunny here today and that always cheers me.

Hope you all have a good week. Anyone have New Years plans?

Gail you are so funny! I am not a shopper-I usually go to get just what I want but I do like girl's time out by ourselves so.....I go along. As I said, I didn't buy a thing!!! I do have $10 to spend between the 1st and 3rd so will go find something to use it on-it is like free money. I likely will get Bill a shirt as I found one for $14.99 so would only cost me about $5!
We had another awesome 81 degree day. Will have another tomorrow and then it will go into the mid 70's till the weekend and then back to the low 80's. Wish I could send all of you some of our wonderful weather.

We had a really nice brunch yesterday. Our son paid for the whole thing. It was really nice of him to do so. We came home and played a couple of board games and then watched TV. DS went to bed early as he had to go to work this morning. DH is all ready for Monday but, they are calling for furriers for Monday. Thank goodness DH doesn't have any installs it's just removals for Monday.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Good Morning:

Going to Penney's to get my hair done today. I go once a month and they give me some points which can be used as cash. If I have points to use today I'll get some colorful towels.

I read THE WHOLE LIE, by Ulfelder yesterday. It is part of a series in which Conway Sax, a mechanic and ex con, is the hero. Fast moving and a good insight into the human psyche. Today I'll start Ulfelder's SHOTGUN LULLABY. I've already ordered some library books by new authors. Hopefully, at least some will come in tomorrow or Tuesday.

Gail

DG: Two of the top reasons I haven't gotten a dog is that I don't relish the idea of walking the dog a few times a day when the weather is HORRIBLE, and having to make arrangements for dog care if I go out of town. So good that things worked out well.

Pat: You are like my sister. She too loves to go shopping. Me, it takes a lot to get me to the stores. I'm at the point where I don't even like going to the supermarket any more.

Sandy: Hope you had a great brunch.

Sheryl and Val: Miss hearing from you. Hope all is well.

Oh my I hate to tell you but it was 80 here today-sunny and just an awesome day. Almost too hot for this time of the year but I certainly am not complaining as I know it won't last. I think we get to enjoy a couple more days before the next cold front moves thru and then it will cool us down into the 70's which is normal. The families with company down for the holidays are loving the weather as they get to enjoy the pool.
I went shopping with 2 friends this morning but I didn't buy a thing!
Gail hope you enjoyed your book. I have been trying to catch up on my magazines and then I plan to check out a book from the library and read that next week.
DG I am glad you will have someone to watch the dogs while you help DS move.
Sandy hope you didn't get too wet and enjoyed your brunch.

We are all going to brunch today. It is going to rain pretty good today so planning on getting out early and get home. Next week it is going to be in the low 30's for the high and low 20's for the low. It will be interesting. They are talking snow so we will see.

Glad that everyone had a really nice Christmas. Have a great weekend everyone!

It's a dreary and wet day here today. The dogs have more energy than they know what to do with. They are outside but will come in muddy and I have to wash the dog rags before they can come it. Well they are washed they just need to be dried. ;-) Looks like it is going to be a crazy day. But thankfully I have a handle on it at the moment! lol

DS is moving this next week. We will be helping him and Thankfully another DS and Ddil can stay at the house with the dogs while we are gone. That makes it a lot easier and less planning and worrying.

Hope all is well with everyone!

Gail have fun reading! It would be a good day to read here and curl up in front of the fireplace.

Good morning:

I hope you all had a good time over Christmas. Was Santa good to you? I bet nobody got coal in her stocking.

I spent Christmas Eve at my daughter's with the family. My granddaughter prepared the dinner and it was fantastic. She made a leg of lamb and seasoned it with rosemary and lemons. After dinner we played games. Very traditional.

Yesterday I was supposed to go to two Christmas day dinners. The first was to be at 2pm. At 1pm I got a call from my sil's mother saying it was off. She had developed a bad cold overnight and was miserable and too ill to do anything. Just as well, I wasn't thrilled about going to two Christmas dinners in one day. I went to my friend's house in the evening and it was a delightful dinner. There were five of us, two of whom I hadn't seen in ages. It's always good to rekindle old friendships.

Sending you all a big hug and good wishes for the rest of the season. I expect many of you will be seeing family and friends through New Years.

Happy Wednesday (Christmas Eve) to Everyone! It is a beautiful here. Sun shining but nippy cold outside. ;-) Lots to be done inside and church tonight. 4 of my 6 children will be with me and of course that precious DGS!! ;-)

Gail thank you for your sweet words. I have been accused of being Pollyanna, but life is too short to not be happy and there is so much to be thankful for!
Do you celebrate Hannukah and Christmas? I think that is wonderful. We have several friends that celebrate Jewish and Christian Holy Days.

Pat thank you!! I love having all my children home. It is fun just to sit and listen to them share about their lives and thoughts. I really learn a lot that way! LOL Yes, when DS moves he is taking his dog. He couldn't have him while he was in training but to be given a German Shepherd puppy with the papers was quite a gift he didn't want to pass up so I volunteered to keep her while he finished his academy. The 2 large puppies will really miss one another but hopefully they will do ok and will be a bit calmer for all of us! They sure remind me of my sons when they were teens and strong and had too much energy and would rough house indoors! I had to shoo them outside! LOL
Congrats on walking!! DD and I are exercising again too. Makes me feel so much better.

Sandy, snow on Christmas Day!! That is a dream come true for my part of the world. LOL It never lasts more than 36 hrs here so that makes a big difference. One winter we stay with my DFIL in northern IL and winter came at Thanksgiving and stayed until the 2nd week of May. That wasn't so much fun. Snow piles in parking lots last until June! They get so tall you can't see over them. No ... that wasn't so fun. ;-)
Your Christmas dinner sounds wonderful!

Nan Merry Christmas to you too! Is your DGS sill with you?

Well, it looks like we may get snow tomorrow. DS is working at 5am to 12 pm tomorrow. I am glad too that I was able to get everything done that I was able to do. I even got some more cookies baked today. I will make the pumpkin pie and green bean casserole tomorrow. DS will make the salad on Christmas and I will make the Ham. My Aunt is bringing the yams and mash potatoes. The only thing I wasn't able to do was to get my hair cut. Just ran out of time.

DG so glad you will get all of you children home for Christmas. I am sure with the new DGS it will be extra special for all of you. Will you son be taking his dog when he moves? If so your furbaby will be lonely for sure.
Sandy glad you have gotten caught up on everything. Hope you weather improves.
I finally got back into my routine and walked this morning my full hour. I could really tell I have neglected it the past couple of weeks so no more excuses! I had to pick up an angel statue I had dropped off before Thanksgiving. The angel turned out beautiful. This evening we went to a 60th wedding anniversary open house. Not many people reach that milestone anymore so it was nice to celebrate with our friends.
Rain predicted for tomorrow-hoping it isn't a downpour but if it Is, we will deal as we always need rain.

Hello Dear Friends!! Wow!! I was gone a long time! Went to the State Capital for DS's graduation! It was wonderful and he will start his new job in the middle of January. He is in his new home area house hunting. Not much there so we are praying he will find something. We will have Christmas together. Then DD and I will go help him pack and clean his present home and move to the new area! Sounds like we will be good and busy for the rest of the year! ;-)
DDil and DD are shopping today so Grandma gets to stay at home with the baby!! A good day for him to be in as it is raining! So messy with the 2 large dogs and the Sheltie but we so badly need the rain, I am not complaining! ;-)
I will wrap Christmas gifts and do as much as I can do to prepare for Christmas today. With the dogs we just have a little tree so I will hide the gifts in a spare room and then put them under the tree Christmas morning. All my children will be with me Christmas Day!! What a delight!! That is a rare occurrence now that they are all grown and several are public servants and have to work most holidays. We have a smaller traditional "thanksgiving" meal. We all do parts of it so no one has to do it all!

Sandy your baking sounds wonderful! Hope you got your cookies done. I would love to have your spiced nut recipe! I have a friend that makes her own vanilla extract. It is so much better than store bought. Thanks for the pat on the back for all we have accomplished and worked through this year! I do feel like I have made progress and great adjustments!
Have you gotten the snow yet?
Hope your internet problem gets solved!

Gail so glad you are able to get things dusted and items put away. How nice to find all those new things. You have plenty for yourself for the future and for the homeless too. What a kind gift to those in need. Our baking is almost gone. It was given as gifts and we have just enough to make our Christmas special. Then it will be gone! ;-)
Wow you have done a lot of volunteering! I would like to volunteer to do the toddlers story hour at our local library. Will have to look into that. ;-) As if keeping DGS isn't going to keep me busy enough! ;-)
Gail the gifts we make are cookies and candy. Oh I do crochet slipper socks but they are long finished!!
Did the tiller get done! you must feel like you have a new house!!
Sorry Hanukkah has been hard. I am babysitting today and tears just flowed!!! So wish my parents and Dh and his Dd could see this little guy! We all waited so long for a new generation. I am the only one to care for him!
How old is your DGD? Hope she had a nice birthday!! My birthday is in the spring. I always feel sorry for the ones that have their birthday so close to Christmas. My little DGS does too.

Pat how nice to get new furniture and to get things cleaned up. Hope you find those new chairs. Our new chairs are wonderful and we hope to get the new futon cover on today. Not sure a muddy day is a good day to do it but the dogs don't get on the sofa. They just jump on the chairs where DD and I sit! ;-)
I know what you mean about the holidays being so busy but, no I won't be glad when they are over. I won't seem some of my children for quite awhile again.
Glad you had a good lunch with you BRO and SIL.

Nana that is a nice surprise!! Hug that DGS!!

Hugs to you all!

Sandy: Will you be preparing things today for tomorrow?

Val: You going to your folks for the holiday?

Nan: Everyone is coming to your place, right? Will you do all the cooking or will it be a pot luck?

Sheryl: Will you be having a community Christmas like Pat?

Pat: Gee, you don't slow down. Is that because you fear if you do, you won't be able to regain your momentum? LOL

Have a good day all,

We got about 2 inches of rain by morning but today has been quite nice and we were able to go see the Christmas lights this evening. I did some last minute shopping this morning and had company in the early afternoon so it was a totally full day.

Good Morning:

It's gray and gloomy here, but there has been no precipitation so the roads are good. I hope this it the case for the rest of the week, especially Christmas eve.

Dear friends, don't get stressed out. Just try to live in the moment and enjoy the holiday. Be happy, well, and make merry.

It is raining here too Sandy. It wasn't supposed to start till later this evening so we had planned to go with friends to see the Christmas light displays so now we are hoping it is nice out tomorrow night so we can go. Not fun to try to see the lights thru the swish of windshield wipers!

Well, they couldn't find what is going on with the lines as usually. He did switch the lines and did one thing on my computer to hopefully fix the problem. The Cable guy seem to think that it could be that fact that our neighbors have the same service and are so close that both our systems are over lapping. We will see what happens.

Tomorrow it will be off to the store for Christmas dinner . I just have laundry, books and a couple of other thing to do tomorrow. It is raining here and a little chilly. No snow.

I hope that everyone has had a wonderful weekend. emoticon

Sandy hope they can get your internet issues fixed. I am lucky to have only had a couple of issues in the almost 9 yrs we have had our service. Once time it was the DSL box went out and another time it was a switch in their box.
Gail-you had asked what other do for Christmas and we have our community dinner. It is always a nice meal and as you say-nice for those of us with no family here.
I did another load of laundry today and finished most of my garden work. We expect rain late tomorrow thru Wed afternoon. Not sure how much but thought I should get this out of the way. Hopefully it will hold off till late tomorrow as we want to take our friends to see the Christmas lights.

Well, I have typed a message but, since I am having problems with my internet connect again. I lost the information again. I have the cable people coming out again to figure out what is going on. We keep having problems and no one knows why. This has been going on for about a year now and no one will listen to us. We really think it is the lines that are out in the box. This past couple of weeks we have lost internet connection more than I can count. yesterday I lost it 4 times in a matter of 30 mins. And now today I have lost it 10 times in a matter of 20 mins. It is getting worst. I just hope they fix it this time. They are crediting us $ 35 on our bill for the next year.

hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

A busy full day-did about 90 min in the gardens after breakfast and then got the candy I made yesterday bagged and most of it distributed. We met up with some of our camping friends and had a nice visit and a late lunch and invited out for dessert this evening.
We will have dinner with about 150 others at our clubhouse. Our social club puts on the dinner and it is always great. We contribute by bringing the appetizers, salads or pies. The main course is provided. Makes it great since we have no family here. For those unable to get out, meals are taken to them.

Good Morning:

I was up all night with chills and I think I had some mild intestinal thing going. I'm mostly better now but do need to get a good nap in today.

I'm wondering how much company you all are having on Christmas Day. Also, do you have traditional dishes that you prepare? As I mentioned, I've two Christmas Day dinners. The first will feature Italian food; the second, traditional American food. What do you do after dinner? Do you play games or just sit and visit?

My daughter always has a Christmas Eve supper, a seafood soup. Do any of you do something like that?

I've been lighting candles each night in celebration of Hanukkah, but it's been harder for me this year than ever before. Not much to a celebration of one. The first two days I was weepy, but since I've been OK.

Sending you all a hug,

Gail

Good Morning:

Had dinner with my daughter last night; very nice. She works such long hours, it's not often that we get together, though she calls me about once a week.

My son and his family are going to Iceland for a week over the Christmas break. The girls will have finished their finals and they are just going to veg and possibly get in some winter sports.

The tiler is here here now and he's doing the master bathroom (floor and shower). After that it's just some touch ups and the lighting.

Sending you all a big hug and hoping that you are not stressing out.

Had 18 attend our Wed. breakfast today-was pleased as we changed restaurants and it is further away so was afraid some would not attend but they all came!
My brother and his wife arrived a little after 10 and we had a nice visit. We only live about 2 hrs apart but hadn't seen each other since Mar. He travels a lot so hard to get our schedule coordinated, It was nice to catch up and exchange gifts. I cooked our lunch and my brother went back for 2nds so guess it was ok!
Hope all had a nice day..

Did some baking yesterday. But I thought I had everything to bake but, found that I didn't. So, today I am going to run to the store and pick up just a couple of things. Did get a lot done yesterday. DH is off today as we didn't have a lot for today. So, he will go out tomorrow. Our rain is back and it looks like it is here for a while. They are talking about the possibility of snow toward Christmas. We will see. My son will be happy.

Hope everyone's week is going well and that all of you have a great day! emoticon

Gail I used to bake cookies for friends in our community but it got too much-a friend and I would work for 2 straight days! A couple years ago, I collected jars and I mixed up a dry soup mix and typed cute recipe cards and tied them on and all they had to do was add liquid to make the soup and folks seemed to enjoy that. Last year I baked bread-another labor intensive job so this year I want to make bark. Hoping to do that Thur/Fri.
All of Bill's tests and dr appointments the past week and a half have really taken up a huge chunk of time. Have to remember next year to not schedule appointments except in early Dec!
I was a bit disappointed in the lunched today. We went to a very ritzy resort and I thought the food was very bland and not a lot of choice for the price we had to pay but it was nice to be with the group and had an enjoyable time visiting with everyone.
My brother and his wife are coming to visit tomorrow so I got things ready for our lunch. We usually take them out but then do not have much time to visit so will serve them here and we won't waste time driving someplace. I realized I didn't have a couple of things so had to make a quick run to the grocery store.
Nan how nice that you have a surprise visit from GS.
Sandy glad you got everything done. Always great when things fall into place.

Well, I got everything done yesterday except for my baking. I will do that today. I make bake goods for a couple of people in the neighbor and then for my Aunt and Uncle.

Nan - That was a wonderful surprise. Enjoy your time with your grandson.

Gail - That is really nice of you to do. I sure that your friends are going to enjoy the gift baskets.

Pat - I hope that all of Bill's test come back with the answers that you two need.

Sheryl - It is always good to hear from you. You sound busy.

DG - How are you doing?

Hope everyone is have a great day! emoticon

Good Morning:

Yesterday I took care of all but one holiday gift. For family I wrote checks. I give four friends gifts and took care of three. Each of the four will get holiday baskets and two will get small gifts. I actually used to put the goodies in baskets, but they take up a lot of room and can get costly. A couple of years ago I started to use holiday gift bags. What I do is I go to the supermarket and get things like cheese, crackers, snacks, etc. This year I got fancy olive oil, balsamic vinegar, olives, wine, crackers, and cheese. One of the friends who was so good to me and Vic all throughout his illness is very fond of a very expensive cheese, and I usually get him some for Christmas. This year I'll also get him some snacks and dried fruit or fresh fruit for his basket.

Do any of you make gifts for Christmas? My Christmas baskets used to be filled exclusively with home-made things: pate, cheese spreads, truffles, sundae sauce, soups, etc. but I haven't been doing that for the past 6 years. Now I just go down the aisle and buy things. I don't have the energy or inclination any more. Since Vic died I have found I mess up recipes...don't know what that is.

Wishing you all good cheer as you prepare for Christmas.

Gail

It's sad that so many people find the holidays so stressful. It kinda takes the joy from it.

I was up early and got my ironing done before it was time to take Bill to see the nephrologist. Great report there - glad something is doing good. Won't have to see that doc for another 6 mo. He was very pleased with all Bill's labs. This afternoon he had the sonogram to check his carotid arteries and the gal doing the test said things look good to her so thinking we don't have to worry on that front.
I had bought batteries for Bill's hearing aides at the same time I bought the toys to donate to Toys for Tots and somehow they didn't get out of the bag when I dropped off the toys. I gave it a shot and stopped by the place where I donated and luckily I got there before they were picked up and was able to retrieve the batteries (those things are not cheap)! They told me later in the morning and it would have been too late.
I thought that the Christmas ladies luncheon was Thursday but it is tomorrow so now Sonny is going to take Bill for his test at the hospital so that I can go to the luncheon. Just too much happening to keep up with it all.
I am not sure about all of you, but I for one will be glad for the holidays to be done.

It's another cold morning here. We have frost on the ground. DH's back is hurting him today. Hoping it last this week or we don't have a busy week. We finally heard from our daughter and got her New address. I got her gifts wrapped and will mail them this morning as soon as the post office opens. Then it is off to the bank and to Marshall and Michael's to pick up a couple of things. Then home to finish the laundry, the baking and the books.

Hope that everyone has a wonderful week. emoticon

As soon as everything is finished with my home I'll probably go back to doing some volunteer work. In the past I was an advocate/first friend for a lady in a nursing home, an interpreter, a pledge taker for our community radio station and for NPR and PBS, a driver for Road to Recovery (took cancer patients to and from their treatments), etc. I think I just might volunteer for the Hospice thrift shop next.

Thank you Sandy for always being there and encouraging us. Hope you got everything done you wanted to today.
I did a couple loads of laundry and got a few more things straightened up before heading off to church. We went out for lunch afterwards and then played cards with our friends and their daughter & her DH.
More dr. appts this week and 2 more tests for DH. Hopefully that will be it for this year. He is tired of being a pincushion.

Woke up to frost on the ground this morning. It is really cold this morning. Finally heard from our daughter this morning and got her new address. So, now I will be able to ship her Christmas gift off to her on Monday. It will probably be late but, hopefully not. The sun is out right now but, we are expecting another round of rain starting Monday. I have wash to do today and baking.

Sounds like everyone is busy. Can't believe that this year is almost over and that Christmas is only a week away. I Just like to say how proud I am of all you this year and all that you have done in your goals. I know there has been a lot of challenges in each of your life's this year that each of you have over come. And you have come through with so much stronger because of them. Each of you deserver a emoticon . So, Be proud and pat yourself on the back as you deserver it. Happy Holidays!

Hope everyone has wonderful day. emoticon

I am whipped tonight! Gail you asked if Bill did the putting together-not happening! His sight is not good enough to see to read the directions or to do the assembly so he is a pair of hands to help me! I am not the most mechanically inclined or whatever you call people who assemble things but I eventually get it done. We didn't get an early start-decided to sleep in this morning so didn't get up till after 8 and then had breakfast before getting busy. We took as much furniture out of the family room as we could and stashed it in the living room before I got busy and washed the windows and swept the floor and used the steamer on it as the sofa had been where we were going to put the tv and fireplace/stand. I don't pull it all out all that often so......had to give it a good cleaning first. Then we got busy putting the thing together. The instructions said it would take about 60 min! What a big joke. We worked from about 10:15 till 11:30 when reinforcements arrived-Vickie & Sonny came over to help us and the 4 of us worked till 2:30!!! They should have sent me 4 little Chinese to put this thing together!!!!! However it is now assembled, the fireplace works and I like it even better than the one we have and now need to sell. Getting the tv hooked up to satellite wasn't too bad. Sonny put the stand together and we got the tv mounted on it and it was only 1 line to attach the DVR to the tv and plug it in. It took me about 30 min to figure out what I had to se the tv on to get it working and then probably another hour to program the remote to work both the DVR and the tv but now it is all working and we are able to watch tv. The family room doesn't look too bac BUT the living room and dining room are a mess yet.
We stopped about 3 and got cleaned up and went to a late lunch or early dinner at 3:30 with V&S and our MO friends who are renting down here for the winter.
After church tomorrow I hope to get the fireplace, old tv and sofa listed on Craig's List and hopefully they will sell quickly as they are cluttering things up. Of course, one purchase means you buy several more items and thinking we will now have to buy 2 chairs for the family room as we are losing our 2nd sofa!
My mind is so boggled down I remember very little of what all of you wrote but hope all of you have had a good day.

Pat

Good Afternoon:

I don't ever recall doing what I did last night. I watched about 6-7 episodes of Blue Bloods until 2:30am. Today I slept till noon. Goodness me....

I vacuumed and dusted the first floor today. Ladies, I'm so happy with those floors, you've no idea. What a breeze to care for. I'm still putting things away, now in the powder room and main bathroom. You know, I've so much of so many things. There are about a dozen purse size Kleenex packets, a couple of dozen nail and cuticle clippers still in bubble wrap, four or five new thermometers, gobs and gobs of bandaids, bandages, tapes, etc., a couple of dozen new razors, a few dozen new tooth brushes, etc. I'm sorting things now and will be packaging things for homeless and pantries later because there are more in the boxes in the basement. There is enough to open a store...all of it new.

Hoping you are all safe and sound.

Gail
Sandy and DG: Wow! You guys are baking up a storm. Sounds like you're having fun.

Pat: I bet your fireplace and TV credenza look terrific. Did you have much trouble putting it together?

Nan, Val and Sheryl: Would love to hear from you.

I was able to get a lot done yesterday. I got my package off to my BIL and his girlfriend, returned my Aunts pans to her from Thanksgivings and spend some time with them. Then picked up my meds, went to the bank and to the store. Came home cooked dinner. Today I am doing some more baking. Make Northwest glaze spice nuts this time of year and they don't last very long in this house. It is easy to make but, you really have to watch them when you make them so they don't burn. I also make vanilla bean Lavern cookies. I make the Vanilla Bean liqueur myself . It is very easy to make but, it take a month to cure. Let me know if anyone want s the recipes and I will post them. I make Frangelico snick doodles and Grand Marne sugar cookies. Yes, I bake with liquor at Christmas. I have friends that ask me for my liqueur as it is good in coffee, on ice cream, I have even used in making whip cream and as a after dinner drink also. It's not too sweet or really powerful. So, that is what I make during the holidays.

So, I better get started. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. emoticon

Morning All,
Lots to do today but is that any surprise? LOL

Gail,My children grew up far from both sets of Grandparents. We were most thankful the kids got to spend more time with them as teens and adults as we cared for them. They really got quality and quantity of time then. It was a wonderful time for us all. At one point all the grandparents lived with us for 4 mths. They had never spent much time together as they lived far apart as well. But it was a wonderful time and as one remembered something from their childhood or young adulthood it would spark memories for others. We all heard things we had never known before.
DD and I made peanut brittle, pecan brittle, chocolate covered pretzels, and fudge. Our friend made a pecan pie and 3 doz thumb print cookies. Don't know if we will do more baking or not. We hope to make more pumpkin pies but have a pecan pie in freezer.
Helping DS to move 9 hrs west we are not sure what will really happen. ;-)

Pat hoping DH's issues can be figured out and solutions found for them.

Good Evening:

I'm so tired I'm about ready to fall over. I wrote Christmas cards last night and this morning and am DONE. Today my neighbor came and helped me put back things in the kitchen. The plumber was here and he removed the toilet and shower from the master bathroom. In the early evening I went to the supermarket and got some things for me and some for a friend for a Christmas basket. This year I'll stock it with cheese, summer sausage, wine and crackers. I'll also give her a gift card to her favorite supermarket.

The house needs to be vacuumed and dusted but that will wait for tomorrow. UGH. Not my favorite thing.

Stay warm, safe, and well,

Gail

Sheryl: Such good advice about wiping the shopping carts. I do it all year. They say there are more germs on the shopping cart hand bar than there are on a toilet seat!

Sandy: What did you bake? Do you make Christmas baskets with home-made goodies. I used to do that for a few special friends and neighbors, but when Vic got sick I just bought everything.

DG: The opportunities for closeness with grandchildren who live far away are nothing like what they are when you live nearby. I love my granddaughters in NC, but it's not possible to be close with me in WI. I get to see them once or twice every two years. The ones who grew up in WI are still very close even though they moved away. Wish they were all around. What Christmas baking do you do? Am certain your visit with a dear old friend next week will be great.

Pat: How exciting that you're getting a fireplace and TV credenza. I wouldn't be able to put it all together. Do you do it or does Bill? Good that your friends called before dropping in. That's the way it's done in Wisconsin where I live. But when I lived in NYC, hey, people dropped in all the time with no advance notice, and nobody seemed to mind. My mom always made enough dinner so that if someone stopped close to the dinner hour she had plenty to feed them. Vic used to tease me all the time telling me I made enough to feed an army.

Nan: Will you be having family over for the holidays? What traditions do you follow? Nan, I love the pictures in your gallery, but I'm very partial to the ROAD TO CHRISTMAS, which you also use as a background. I'm a sucker for any pictures and crafts that are reminiscent of an old time Christmas.

Val: Where are you? How are things going? We miss you.

Sandy so glad that you are feeling better. Hope you were able to get your errands done today and it wasn't pouring on you.
DG sounds like you are quite busy also. So much to do at this time of year. I want to make some bark for Christmas gifts so planning to do that next week. Then I will "gift" it and get it out of the house! I picked up a couple of gifts when I went to W-Mart today to get my RX.
Sheryl I too wipe down those carts. I agree if one does it, it certainly helps to keep the germs at bay. I won't even touch a magazine or chair arm in the dr's office. Take my own reading material and touch nothing is my motto!
DH had an early appt. at the oncologist-8:30 so we were up early today. They got him in early as he was the 1st appt. and we were actually walking out of there by 8:40! His platelet count was good which I knew already because we had gotten results yesterday at our primary dr. However, they also look at other things in the blood here so.....it is no wonder DH is anemic-they take so much blood out of him!!! We picked up my RX about 9:30 so hopefully I will be in good shape by Christmas.
We had friends stop by at 1-they had called-so we went to lunch with them Then earlier we had gotten a call that our new fireplace, tv credenza was in so we got Sonny to pick it up at Lowes. I could not find any in stock so had to order it and to save shipping had it shipped to the store. Tomorrow we will put it all together-fun, fun!

Hello Friends! Can't believe it is Friday already!!
It is going to be another busy day. Organizing, decorating, every day chores and making Christmas candy and baking cookies. ;-)

Sandy sorry you had a sinus migraine! They sure happen when it is windy and all the dust and pollen and molds are flying.
Hope you are feeling better now and you get your shopping done.

Gail glad your last night at the Resort was so special! How thoughtful of them all to spoil you in such special ways.
Sorry your paint color wasn't what you wanted. Hope you like the new color better. Glad so much was done and you have things to you can do to put your home back in order now. That makes it so nice.
Yes, I am taking care of me too. Thanks for the reminder. Looking forward to time with a dear long time friend next week before my DS's graduation. We had children the same ages and spend time together a lot when the kids weren't teens yet. Then they had to move. ;-(
Sorry I don't know how to find your recipes! Hope someone else can!

Nan glad to see you post!!

Pat am going to miss my little guy. His Dad is going to take them out of town for the weekend so he can photograph a wedding and Aunt Izzy and baby can visit with friends. They will have a good time and am glad they are both so well they can go.
You are always so busy! ;-) Glad you had fun at the flea market and got some things that were needed and wanted.

Sheryl glad to hear their is someone else that wipes their carts down. I keep a container of Clorox wipes in my car and carry one in to each store where I will use a shopping cart! Has kept me well when almost everyone else I know is getting sick. I started doing that 11 yrs ago when my DS married a few days after Christmas and I wanted to be sure and be well for the wedding.

Off to get some things off my to do list and to exercise with DD!

Hugs to you all!

Thank you everyone. I am feeling better. I was able to get some baking done yesterday. But, wasn't able to make to the store as the rain to coming down pretty good. Even DH told me not to go out as it was bad out. The wind picked up later and I was glad I didn't go. But , I have to go today as a I have a Rx to pick up and we are low on food. Today is suppose to be a better day. Last night we had winds at 65 MPH plus heavy rain.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful day and a great weekend. emoticon

Sandy do hope you get to feeling better soon. It seems that the "bug" going around down here really takes one down-Sonny had it over Thanksgiving and still not up to "snuff". Did the bad storm do much damage by you. Sure has looked nasty on the news.

Sandy so sorry that the paint didn't work out as planned but glad that it is an easy fix. I finished my cards today and the last will go in the mail tomorrow. What a relief. Now to finish the gifts for close friends-trying to make things so best get busy!!!

I finished dusting my bedroom this morning and was working on ironing when Vickie called and we decided to head to the flea market but waited till 10. We started at 43 this morning and then got to 61 this afternoon. Not our usual temps for this early in Dec but at least it was sunny. I picked up a lighted frog as a present for Vickie today. She admired it but decided not to purchase it so I went back and got it for her. I also got Bill a new wallet as his is absolutely shot. Since he needed it yesterday I didn't make him wait till Christmas to give it to him.
We didn't get home till 2 so I worked on my cards and then we left for our dr appt. at 4. We didn't get back home till 6. All is well. Bill has to have a check of his carotid arteries-he has some blockage and it has been 18 mo. so dr wants to recheck to see if anything has changed. Will be so glad to get done with all his year end appointments.
Pat

Sandy: Sorry you're still not 100%. Take good care of yourself, dear friend.

As far as the paint job, I take responsibility. I told the painter, not the decorator. He asked if I wanted to wait till I got home to go over the color with the decorator and I said no, that I trusted her judgement. My bad....

Well, It started raining so hard yesterday that I didn't make it to the store as some of the street were closed due to flooding. So, I am going to go this morning. I am hoping to get a few thing done today but, have been tired. No word from our daughter still so, her gifts will be late.

Gail - glad you made it home safe. Sorry about the your paint job. At least it is only paint and it is a easy fix. Maybe you should talk to your decorator about a little reimbursement or something since it was her mistake. She should of check with you since you told her a what color you wanted and she went with a different shade. Just something to think about.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.
