I am doing better today. Out running round today and trying to get things done that I haven't been able to. Thank you everyone again for the get well wishes.

Our weather here has cooled down to the low 60's for our high this week. We are getting our rain.

Pat - sorry that your trip is not not going so well. Wish DH a HB.

Hope that everyone has a wonderful day. emoticon

Sandy glad you continue to rest and let your body heal. Nice to have a chance to sit and read on a cool rainy day. Reminds me of cold winter days snuggling before my fireplace with a good book. Looking forward to some of those days. We don't get them every winter but maybe we will this year! ;-) Hope you feel much better tomorrow!

Gail hope your packing and remodeling is going well.

Hugs and blessings to all!!

I am feeling a little better today but, still taking it easy. The weather here has changed once again and it has started to rain. This time it is cold. I am enjoying it as it feels like Fall. I am finishing up on the books today and going to try to do some baking.

Hope that everyone has a great day. Thank you for all your warm wishes too. emoticon

Happy Sunday Friends. It is over cast and looks like we might get some rain. We have have few sprinkles on the car windshield coming home from church. But no real rain yet. Hoping for a real gully washer! ;-)

Pat thank you for your encouragement and comments. Gail I think you are right. I so dislike computers because when I was first learning I was asked in a harsh tone "what button did you push?" I didn't know. The keyboard was so easily activated. I love that the control or command button pushed with the z button will undo things now. I wish it had been that way in the beginning!! I wouldn't be so intimidated! So we keep plugging on!!

Gail I did the same with my children. I thought the boys should know how to cook and clean. Thankfully DD knows how to check the tire pressure and the oil levels. Thankfully my sons are willing to help with things I need at the house but it is waiting for their schedules to be free. I also hate them to have a to do list when they come to see me. Thankfully they don't seem to mind! ;-)

Sandy so sorry you are not feeling well. That is the sad thing about being sick. When Mom gets well then she has a mess to clean up! I have been there. Hope you feel better soon!

Hope everyone has had a good weekend!

Just popping in. I am in bed sick. I slept most of the day yesterday off and on. Did make the guys pasta sauce so that they could make there own dinner. That didn't happen as the noodle weren't made. HA! Told them they are on there own today. My son was going make the noodle but, his father didn't let him. That is a long story. DH rather eat out than fix dinner as he doesn't like to clean up the mess. He doesn't clean up the mess I and our son do.

Hope that everyone is having a good weekend.

Good Morning:

Pat and DG, your discussion is important. I believe we should learn to do as much as possible for ourselves so that when the need arises we are prepared. Some things we learn when we're young and sometimes we are so intimidated by the messages of others that we never acquire certain skills.

Vic used to insist on doing everything and I often thought he equated love with dependency. How sad. I would ask him over and over again to teach me some of the great skills he had. Do you know it wasn't until he had leukemia that I learned to open the garage door? I never learned to use the mower or the snow blower or to drive a standard shift, and to this day struggle to get the gumption to learn something new on the computer or attempt something mechanical.

I always taught my children what I thought they needed to know to be independent and live a good life, and encouraged them to try things they initially shied away from. They both learned to cook, have a sober disposition about money, strive for a good work ethic, have a sense of charity towards their fellow man, and the value of an education, a friendship and love. One has been married for 30 years and the other for 20 years, both have good friendships and both are successful in their professions. Life has had trials and tribulations for both, but the have managed to weather the storms pretty well.

Hello Again!
I am not sure if I mentioned it here or not but DD's computer's hard drive died last Saturday. Thankfully she had Apple Care insurance on it because Apple replaced the hard drive and the bracket and paid for the repair since it was just over a yr so the warranty was out. She got it back today, so I have my computer again! ;-)

SRivers glad you got rain and had a relaxing day!

Pat thanks for enjoying my story about learning to pump gas! It is so nice to know I am not the only one! I have a younger brother who is a yr younger and a sister that is 5 yr older. All the cousins my age were boys too. So I was a rough and tumble girl, but my preference was to be a girl!! I loved being frilly and when DH an only child wanted to pamper and dote on me, I was thrilled! Now I kind of regret it. Thankfully I did learn to mow the yard when the children were young and DH had to work so much over time. I preferred to have his time and attention when he was off on the weekend instead of him doing chores. So I do know how to do that much. Although I did have to learn to use a weed eater and am still not good at that. It is heavy. ;-)

Hope I don't bore everyone with my "saga". I do so appreciate you all letting me share my struggles and happy times too.

Hope you all have a great weekend!!

Gail Bill is hanging in there. We are cutting his medicine back to wean him off of this per the gastro doc's instructions. So far they have not called us about what we will do once that is done. He still has almost 4 weeks so I will wait till we get down to 2 weeks and call. No sense in stressing out at this point as I know he has to be weaned off of this. The Humira or it's equivalent is scaring me anyhow. His oncologist told us he should try it and see if it works but....I am still uneasy. Reading all the side effects is a testament to trying to figure out something else! He does have good and bad days but more good than bad so...guess it is just something we both need to learn to live with as it is not going away.

Sandy glad you are getting some rest and rain. Hopefully nothing too drastic. We have had rain the past 2 days. 1.5 inches yesterday and it is still drizzling so haven't looked today.

DG I had to smile about you saying that about pumping gas. First time Lyle was hospitalized and I was low on gas I had to take my sons (who weren't that old maybe 8 and 10) to help me pump it but I learned. About 4 or 5 years ago a friend was staying with me while her DH was hospitalized after he had heart valve replacement surgery and she didn't know how to pump gas so I taught her. Of course, I was driving her everyday to Orlando to the hospital as she was terrified of driving there!!! I have always had the motto that if a guy can do it, so can I. (I had 3 brothers so wasn't going to let them best me!!!)

It was a busy day till about 3 when I decided I needed to relax. I walked my 5 mi, washed the car, cleaned the inside, gave Abbie a bath and later brushed her and got her all prettied up, went to the mall for a couple of things, took DH to get his Krystal burgers he was craving, got the packing done, did the ironing, charged the tablet and my phone, and packed Miss Abbie. She will be going to her Aunt Barb about 7.

Looks like it is going to be a rainy trip but guess we will deal and hopefully we can manage to get some beach time. Last week would have been perfect but who knew when we made these reservations about 4 weeks ago that it would turn out like this! Tomorrow we plan to go to Myakka River State Park - they have a treetop walk and an eco cruise so plan to do that. Looking forward to it if we don't get rained out!!!

I plan to take my tablet but not sure about the internet so if you don't hear from me for a few days, you know why.

Pat

Well, it is a beautiful day today. The sun is out but, it is cool only in the high 60's. We hadn't had rain like we did in a while. Our season for rain has just start. We are do for more come Tuesday.

Just relaxing and working on the books this weekend. I am nursing a cold this morning. It started yesterday or the day before. Started coughing last night but, have been feeling out of sorts all week. Been really tired. DH has been on me to do stuff and haven't had the energy to do anything. So, think I will just do books this weekend and sleep.

Have a great weekend!

Hello Dear Friends.
Am making progress on the baby quilt hand stitching. Not such a good week for exercise but will keep trying. Weather is nice and so lovely for a walk. There is yard work to do as well so that will burn some calories! ;-)

Nan hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

Pat so sorry you were ill but glad it passed so quickly! Glad you could rest!
Thanks for the confirmation that it isn't unusual for the grief to still hit hard some days. I am a bit concerned holding my first grandchild (this side of Heaven - DS #1 and Ddil#1 have lost their only 2 babies) is going to be very difficult. Grandparenting is *meant* to be done as couples, isn' it? ;-) So I try to focus on that little one and how much he/she will be loved. It is definitely nice to have new life to celebrate.

Gail so sorry so much is hitting all at once. Yes it is those unexacted things that send me over the edge. So sorry you are having to deal with insurance issues. I am doing a bit of that too and have never had to do it before. There is so much to do and learn. I remember sitting by my unconscious DH those last few hours and wishing I could have all the information tucked in his head and how would I manage without it. I am finding the Lord Jesus is faithful and I am *never* alone but walking the road meant for 2 - alone is not easy. DH cherished me and spoiled DD & me in many ways, I guess. Some of the things we can chuckle at like having to have one of the boys teach us how to pump our own gas for the car! We just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep moving along!
So sorry the remodeling is taking longer than you want. You home will be wonderful for Thanksgiving!! Do you plan to have family come to you or will you spend it at someone else's home? I am glad you are going to have some R&R! I have long hair and love it. It is so much easier for me to care for. It holds curl well and that helps.

Hope Everyone has a great weekend! Looks like we are going to have some more cool but dry weather this weekend! Hugs to All!

Good Morning:

Have so much to take care of before I leave and every little task seems like a mountain. So much stress; I can't wait to get some R&R.

I have my insurance through my DH's former employer, the UW-State of Wisconsin. They have open enrollment every Oct. If you do nothing the insurance you chose the year before rolls over. My health insurance includes prescription and preventive dental. For years we also got supplemental dental for root canals, dentures, periodontal work, etc. I have the premiums taken from my pension. Well, come to find out Friday that my supplemental dental lapsed in 2012 a few month's after Vic died! Nobody mentioned that I had to take care of that directly with the insurance company. Long story short, after numerous phone calls to the state, university and the insurance company I was able to get the insurance reinstated. I had to pay the premiums that were missed between Dec. 2012 and Sept. 2014. It is now arranged to have the premium taken from my bank account so I don't have to think of it. The back premiums were a sudden expense that I wasn't counting on but it had to be done.

Today I'm have a hair appointment and I'm thinking of letting my hair grow. We'll see what the stylist says. At noon hour I have a baby shower luncheon that I have to go to. I want to go, but the timing is bad. I got the gift, a stroller/car seat set, a month ago and it is so large I cannot wrap the box. I'll just see if I can find some ribbon and tape it to the box along with a card. Not a great presentation, but it's all I can do. The box was so heavy I had to have someone put it in my trunk.

As far as my project is going, it will be pushed back about 4 weeks. It will probably be the first or second week of November before all is done. Patience, Patience, Patience.

Wishing you all beautiful weather and a happy weekend.

Gail

DG: I know how hard it can be after you lose your DH. Vic died in Aug. 2012 and I think of him every day. Some days I still tear up. Hang in there. It gets better with time, though the sadness remains.

Sandy: Hope this weekend is an opportunity for you to rest.

Pat: How is Bill doing?

Val: How's your finger coming along?

Sheryl: How are you doing? Getting better with each day?

Nan: Hope you continue to have beautiful weather. Are the leaves turning in your area?

DG sorry you and DD had such a tough day. I think they will continue to come and go and the strangest things will set you off. It has been 25 yrs since I lost my DH and there are still times that really bother me. I wish you better and more peaceful days ahead.

Sandy hope you are getting the books done and enjoying the rain. Were you really dry and need it?

Gail I hope you still have an awesome trip in spite of the challenges with the weather.

Nan-enjoy your great weather.

I had a cool morning for my walk and Vickie & I did a run to W-Mart to get the sale items with a stop at CVS and the bank. I was back home just before noon but got very ill for a brief time. Had to take it easy afterwards but then felt fine. Not sure what hit me as I had only eaten yogurt for breakfast!
We played cards with Vickie & Sonny about 2:30 this afternoon. The ladies were victorious!!
We have had rain finally. Not sure how much as at last look it was still drizzling so I have not checked the gauge.

Hello Friends! Mercy there are so many things to do. Lots of things to learn to cover that 2 of us used to do. Grief hit DD very hard today so hugging her and helping her work through it. Hard to be young and not married and to lose Dad too. So we keep taking one step and another and sometimes have to stop and retrace steps already take and keep on moving along. So it is a day we fell like we are walking through ankle deep mud. Lots of work but gotta keep going.

Pat sorry you aren't getting rain again! We still desperately need it too! Cooler and it is so nice. Hoping to get into a routine of walking next week. Having little friends visit this week has made it more difficult but has made the week fun!
Can't wait to have a little one to hug and hold!

Srivers - I am excited for the little one to get here. Ddil and DS have asked DD and I to come to the family waiting area at the birthing center. We are excited and will go as soon as we find out. All seems well and just waiting for the due date! ;-) I am sure it will get more intense as the time gets closer! ;-) I have things to do while we sit and wait! ;-)
Sure wish we could have your rain!!

Gail have a great time!! Will be thinking of you!!

Hope Everyone has a good Friday!

Well, we have rain. It really started coming down last night and hasn't stopped. DH is soaked he said. We did have a break late in the day yesterday but, about 9pm it started to come down.
Not planning on doing anything today just working on the books.

Hope that everyone has a great day and a wonderful weekend.

Val - I can remember having a cast on leg ad how I hated that. Luckily it wasn't on my driving foot but, still was a pain in the you know what. I feel for you. emoticon

Gail - Sorry to hear about the dry wall guy. Hopefully you can get it taken care of by the time you get back from your trip. Glad to hear that you are taking a Cruise this time. Cabo got hit pretty bad. Heard a lot horrid stories come out of there. emoticon

DG - You must be excite about the little one coming The HOA problem has to do with the business and dealing with the Real Estate Agents not finding out what the laws are. Which makes it hard on my guys when they go install post. Some only allow Signs in windows and others have special hanging places for the signs. so, these are the things the Agents have to find out and most of the time they don't. Then we hear about it and get yelled at. emoticon

Pat - Glad you were able to get the park all fixed up for Halloween. I'm sorry that you are not getting the help you need. That is not fair.

Nan - Always good to hear from you.

Sheryl - glad that you are getting out and about.

We have rain again today which I am for. Working on the books today. DH didn't go out today as we only had 3 removal so will do those tomorrow with whatever we get in today. It has been a slow week which is not a surprise as the Holidays are coming. I am taking it easy today again. DH sleep from 8 pm last night to 9 am this morning which he never does. He has been really tired lately and I have tired to get him to take naps but, he won't do it. Thank goodness we only had 3 today so he slept in.

Hope that everyone has a great day.

Another gorgeous day. Rain is missing us again but we are still cooler which is a plus. Actually had fog when I was walking at 6:15. It was so eerie looking over the lake with the fog hanging out.
I pruned 4 of the smaller trees in our entry island. They look much better and the old blooms are now off and hopefully we still have time to get a few more blooms before cold weather sets in.
The maintenance men are working on removing more shrubs and roses and after we return from our trip next week we will work on getting new ones planted. While we are gone they will be painting the front of the manager's house and redoing the bed for us.
Gail so sorry to hear you can't get the damaged area repaired sooner but hope other parts of the remodel can continue on and it will just be the bath you need to finish.
Sandy hope the realtors realize you don't make the rules for these places. I know we do not allow realtors to put signs out in here-they can do a very small one inside the home and that is it. One has to abide by the community's rules.
DG I hope you are getting the sewing done. Won't be long till you get to spoil that little one.

Oh My!! I see I have been away too long again and have quite a bit to catch up on!! Have been sewing for a friend and working on new grandchild's baby quilt. Need to be checking in more often I see! ;-)

Pat glad you can walk early and miss Chatty Cathy! ;-) Hope that insurance figure is firm. Still no word on DD's computer! Hope it is fixed soon. So sorry you have had to deal with inconsiderate neighbors at your community. That is a shame. You can ask them to give their time if they don't want to give the money! ;-) I am sure that would go over like a lead balloon!! ;-)

Nan glad you stopped by!!

Vali sorry the cast is such a bother but glad it is healing well!

Srivers so sorry you had trouble over the HOA rules. That is not fun, nor is it your fault. Contracts are meant to be read!
Trying to get a lot of loose ends tied up before the baby comes. Due date is 7 weeks now. ;-) Can't wait to hold that little one!

Gail so sorry you are having troubles with the dry wall being done. Wish we lived closer. All 3 of my sons know how to do dry wall. Now to get them to make time in their schedule ... that is how it goes, isn't it!! ;-) Glad you watched some tv and relaxed. Glad you are going away and can relax and not stress over it while you are gone! Nice to have such good neighbors to leave keys with!! Oh my, those are sad weather events in the areas where you are going. Thankfully the ship in itself is great entertainment. Hope you do relax. Anyone going with you that you know on the cruise? My siblings both enjoy cruises. I just enjoy staying on the beach!

Hugs to all and hope everyone has a good day!! It is a day of dishes, laundry and baby quilt for me! ;-)

Nan: I'm flying into CA...you know, the state that is beset with forest fires. From there I'm taking a cruise ship to the Mexican Riviera..you know, the area that has very recently suffered greatly from the ravages of hurricanes. Boy, did I know how to pick this or what? One of the intended ports was Cabo San Lucas. With all the damage there it may be a few years before they clean up and recover. Doubtlessly, Princess will go to safe ports, but they may not be very interesting. A year ago I took a cruise that was supposed to go to Belfast, Northern Ireland, Iceland and Greenland. We never got to any because of the weather. The ports selected were nothing much at all. I would have liked to see Cabo, but safety first. Hey, right now as long as the weather is very good I'm a happy camper. All I want to do is relax.

Good Morning:

I've been stressed lately with all that is going on with the renovations. I made out a list of the names, phone numbers and specialty of each of the workman so that they can call each other if they need to coordinate. I also made arrangements to have the house keys with my neighbor. Even with things were going well, I guess it's the price I'm paying for living with things in the middle of rooms and for moving stuff off closet floors, into the basement and into the garage, etc.

Yesterday I hit a snag and I'm not shocked. My daughter warned me this could easily happen. I had a leak in my bathroom and need to have a drywall expert take care of cutting out the bad section and patching it up. Yesterday I learned it will be 3-4 weeks before he can come. This will probably set back the overall schedule several weeks. Today I'll see what can be done during my absence. I'm so glad I'm going away next week. I really need to chill out.

My food has been awful and I know it. I was trying things on yesterday deciding what to pack. Things still fit but I look terrible, and I'm very flabby around the middle. Got to get past this. Thankfully, I managed to pack one bag yesterday. I'll try to do my other one today. Tomorrow I'll get my travel documents and money organized and will pack a few paperbacks. I had a pain in my neck most of the day yesterday after I found out that the drywall won't be done till the middle of Oct.; it's tension, for sure. I watched several episodes of Diagnosis Murder last night and managed to relax.

Can you believe it has been a record month for rain over on the coast-about 45 mi east of us and we aren't getting anything this week! Those poor people are flooding! We would gladly take some of it for them. You are right Val-seems it is feast or famine on the rain. Glad you are getting some decent rainfall as I know the west really, really needs it, just not all at once.
We finished the fall/Halloween decorating after we got back from breakfast this morning. There were only 6 of us there today. We told them we would not be coming next week since we will be coming home from our mini-vacation. The other couple decided to not go by themselves and seems we can't count on others who say they will be there!!!
This afternoon I finished up deadheading the roses so hopefully that will slow down a bit.
I was a bit upset yesterday after the meeting I attended. Two of the men were concerned about putting out so much money for what Vickie & I do. They best watch out or it will be a lot more because we will both quit and they can pay to get it all done! I am still seething about their comments. I do not waste money and figure the value of my volunteer work over the past 7 years is well over $10,000! We are tired and want some help and to be able to enjoy our retirement too! The park looks the best it ever has and properties are selling because of that but I don't feel it should all be on our shoulders. It benefits everyone and we either want more volunteer labor or they pay to help us! One suggested the maintenance men could do it. Well, they haven't to date because they are always busy so why would they suddenly have time??? GRRR I will get off my rant.
Pat

Just popping in. Getting close to the end of month and I have the books to do. It was a busy day yesterday with one of my clients in an uproar. Long story short they didn't fined out all the the right information on the property as it under HOA and they have guide lines. Some allow Post some don't. This property didn't. So, they kept taking down the post. The agent got mad at us. I explained to him that we are more than happy to go back out ad re-install it but, it will be a cost. He got upset and started yelling at me. I offered to install it for only $ 3.00 which is just for the gas and he said no ad that he was leaving. I said fine. Then he threaten me. That I didn't like and called his manager and reported it.

Val - Glad to hear from you ad know what is going on.

Gail - Are you still going down to Mexico? As I heard from a friend that was down in Baja and it is a mess down. If you do go down be careful.

DG - you are busy. glad that you are taking your time with the de-cluttering.

Pat & Sheryl - good to hear that you both are thinking of cutting back on your volunteering.

We have our rain back ad it has been raining all night. Loving it!

Have a good day!

gail, the cast is making me insane emoticon there are so dang many things that I could get done...if I could move my hand around with this ratzafratzin cast on it!!

ah well, I remind myself many timed a day that breaking my pinky saved me from breaking the bone (the orbitofacial?) just below my left eye. I've still got a healing gouge that the sidewalk put there, too, but overall i'm ok.

my car is another matter. I didn't drive on my days off at all, wish I had now. I really need to start paying more attention to my driving at night, especially when i'm tired. I've hit a couple of curbs recently and today my left rear tire was flat! emoticon I pulled into an oil change parking lot and waited for AAA to change it for me. if I had two hands I coulda changed it myself, consarn it!!!

ok, i'm done for now. the day was ok at work, guess. tomorrow i'm goig to get up an hour early to either have my tire replaced under warranty or buy another one. . (we'll just skip the rest of the cursing, shan't we?)

gail, it really seems like things are coming along nicely with your house. pretty soon you're going to need to post housewarming shots. emoticon

pat, I think it's so funny that we're always in opposite straits from each other. usually yo want to send your rain to me, but this time you might need some of mine...but you can't have it! emoticon we've had a decent summer rain-wise, but we never get to the point where we can give any of it away. sorry emoticon

sandy, sounds like business is booming and things are great for you with your son there. I hope that things keep going well for him.

I had thought of something else I wanted to say...but it's late it slipped out my other ear...i'll chat vwith all of you again soon. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

What did you have to do, regarding the trip you cancelled?

Or did I miss the outcome?

So happy for you, that your home

Good Evening Dear Friends:

It seems that so many of us are on the go, go, go. What a day I had! I've been on the run since about 8am and it's past 7:30pm. Early this morning I went with the plumber to finalize my choices. I'm so glad I went. First, I was going to get a soaking tub 18" deep, but wanted to be sure it would work for me since I am so short. Well, it was really too deep. I wound up with 16". The plumber showed me a vanity sink that he liked and I liked it better than the one I selected originally. Come to find out it cost significantly less. Also saw that this outfit sold grab bars for the tub, and they were $39 each. The place where I got the other hardware wanted $139 each for a grab bar so it was a clear cut decision.

Before returning home from the plumbing showroom I went grocery shopping. When I got home I couldn't find my IPad. Truly, I panicked. Finally, I found it on the floor of my car. The problem was the case for the IPad is the same color as the carpet on the floor of the car so they blended together. What a stressful time I had till I found it.

Early this afternoon the student from the UW came and boxed up the archival materials. He and the professor will come within a week to take them over to Fed Express. Then the window shade man came with the honeycomb blinds. He did such a good job and was so nice. After the blinds were up I wanted to cry. It looked so beautiful. When the blinds are down light still filters through but you cannot see in or out of the house. Things are coming together.

My internet wasn't coming through and I called my provider and ordered a router. I also needed someone to come to put my cable for the TV on a different wall. The guy they sent was a prince. He moved my TV, installed the cable, and set up my DVD player and my TIVO. He simplified things and put everything in one spot with minimal wires floating around and I'm in heaven. He also tacked my internet and phone in one area and I don't need a router after all with the equipment he gave me. EVERYTHING WORKS!

I'm deader than a doornail right now and will hop into the shower and crawl into bed. What a day!

G.

Sandy: It's wonderful that your son is adjusting so well and it's good that your business is getting so many calls. You must be in heaven.

Pat: Well, dear, I'm going round and round at a fast pace just like you. It's exhausting, isn't it?

Nan: So glad you are home safe and sound. I love the autumn colors, but they aren't changing yet where I live.

DG: Glad your daughter had a warranty. She must be so relieved.

Val: How are you doing? How is your finger? Is it giving you trouble?

Sheryl: How are you coming along? Are you recuperating nicely? I your husband helping out a lot?

Dusty: We haven't heard from you in a while and I'm wondering how you are doing. Miss you.

We went to bed quite early last night so we could watch the Cards/Cubs game so we were in bed a little after 8. I got pretty sleepy about 9:30 so I set the timer for 90 min and I was soon having sweet dreams! emoticon However, Bill had napped during the day so he stayed awake and was watching the game when at the bottom of the 9th, 1 out and 2 strikes on the batter the timer turned off the tv!!! He was a little miffed he missed the last little bit of the game but it was 8-0 in favor of the Cards so hopefully they didn't blow it. emoticon

I woke up before 6 since I went to sleep early and I was out to walk by 6:15. Chatty Cathy was no where to be seen- emoticon . I met up with Vickie up front as she had walked even earlier than I did! She was watering the birds of paradise we had planted as the rain keeps missing us. We decided to work of our decorating this morning since it was overcast and not terribly hot-just humid. We headed home to eat and then met up about 8. We got it about half done as I had to go to a meeting at 10 (I was late as Bill's clock in the golf cart had lost time!). An insurance rep had come to give us a quote for our park insurance and since I am on the finance committee wanted to see what he had to say. If it is a firm number, it looks like we can save several thousand dollars by changing which would be good for the bottom line. By the time I got home from that it was 11:30.

While all that was going on, Bill & Sonny (Sonny drove) took our car up to Toyota for it's 5,000 mile checkup. We get 2 years of free maintenance. One of our back tires has been losing air so they checked it out and could not find anything wrong so hope they are right.

After lunch and watching the noon news, I gave Abbie a haircut. Bill holds her up on the kitchen table while I use the clippers. She will be staying with Barb while we are gone so I wanted it to be short to be easier for her. I think I do as good a job as the groomer and this way it is exactly how I want it!

I got my ironing caught up after that and then got cleaned up as we went to Oakwood tonight with Vickie & Sonny. They had a special all month of a full rack of ribs for $11.99 so thought we had best get there before we missed out!!! We invited new residents to go along and got to know them a little better. They live in KY. They just bought in July and have been down several times since then. They come and do work on the place and then go back. He has put in laminate in the bedrooms, replaced faucets, and installed a laundry sink so far and they have been working on the yard and shrubs. They are heading back to KY in the morning and won't be back till after Christmas or that is the current plan. We didn't get back from that till after 7. Had a nice time visiting though.

Guess I will see what I can get accomplished tomorrow. Hopefully we can finish our decorating.

Rain is still missing us. Our high today was 82 and it was 71 when we got up this morning. Just wish the humidity would drop some.

DG glad your DD purchased the extended warranty and hopefully she will have her computer back soon. Sounds like you had a nice time shopping.

Sandy glad business is not drying up and that it is remaining fairly steady for you. Happy to hear that DS is adjusting well.

Nan even down here we are just starting to see a change in the plant life and our temperatures are coming down slowly. Now to get the humidity to follow.

Nan totally agree with you about what is coming and I don't live in cold country. ;-) Do you scrapbook in the cold months? The winter my family spent in northern IL with my DFIL, DD and I did a lot of scrapbooking. It kept us pleasantly occupied and got a lot of work done! Not good for the weight loss program though! ;-)

Srivers so glad DS is happy and feels so much better! Glad business isn't always slow. So many are going under these days. It is sad. So thankful this is not the case for you! Nice for DH
to be able to get out and relax some. I am guessing golf is relaxing! LOL

DD's computer hard drive crashed over the weekend? Did I tell you all this? Sorry if I am repeating. She was able to get it into the shop yesterday and in 3 - 5 days the hard drive will be replaced. We are so thankful she purchased the extended warranty on it as it is just a bit over the 1 yr warranty. We had fun while taking it to the shop. It was in a Mall where we don't normally shop. It is on a busy freeway and decided to wait til after rush hour to return home. We had a good time shopping. I purchased some Christmas gifts. Nice to get that started.

Hugs to all and hope you have a nice day!

DH is out playing golf today. Business has slowed down some to the point that we just need one truck to go out some days. But, as things go one day we are slow ad the next we are very busy. As now I am getting calls for installs left and right. So, you just never know.

I too am enjoying the changing colors of the leaves. Our son is too. He is really enjoying himself here more and more. He notices the differences in how much better he can breathe up here than down in Calif. I am just happy that he likes living here.

Hope everyone is enjoying their day.

Another busy Monday-up and out to walk by 6:30 BUT I got slowed down by a new resident. They bought a home one block down from us and he seems to sit out on his back step smoking every morning and today he was a chatty Cathy! I didn't think I was ever going to get away from him. I didn't get home till almost 8:30!!!! Sure messed up my plans for the morning but I managed to get most everything done.
After my yogurt, I headed up front and got two area of roses deadheaded and then caught Dan and he finally got the maint. men to move the stoves so Vicky & I can get to our fall/Halloween decorations. Now we have to figure out when it works in our schedule to put them out. Usually takes us several days as we try to work early in the am so it isn't so hot! She worked on some of the beds by the pool while I was upfront. Then it was home to work on my own yard. My sweet potato plant seems to always need pruned and the elephant ear would take over if I would let it but I keep it contained to just one huge plant and pull out any of the babies that pop up.
It was 11:30 by the time I got done outside which is later than I like-it wasn't hot-only about 85, but very humid. After a shower, I fixed us both a sandwich and then cut out my coupons from Sunday's paper while we watched the noon news.
I put in a load of laundry and finally took time to finish up my e-book! I even read a magazine. By then it was time to start dinner and while it was baking, I worked on my ironing. I didn't get it done, but made a nice dent in it. I am setting things aside for our trip so I won't have much to do on Sat when I pack.
I made dressing and after browning my pork chops, I put them on top of the dressing and baked them for about an hour. Had that with mashed potatoes, corn and beets for dinner tonight. Not exactly diet food but finding things DH will eat and agree with his tummy isn't easy!
I had hoped to get a short nap but that didn't happen so thinking we will go to bed early, let our shows record and watch the Cards play the Cubs. Then if I fall asleep I will already be in bed!!
Sheryl rain was predicted here also but even though it got very dark and there was lots of thunder, we didn't get any. Getting very discouraged about the rain always missing us.
Pat

Hi Gail!!
Sorry you have no internet at home. That makes it inconvenient! Hope you can get it fixed soon. DD and I are off to the Apple Store this afternoon. Her hard drive died over the weekend. She spent a lot of Saturday trying to find the problem with technical support. It is just over a yr old. Thankfully she has Apple Care on it and they will replace the hard drive this afternoon free of charge. Tech support manage said this is most unusual for a Mac Book Pro or he wouldn't have paid all the money to get one himself! I hope he is right. I just bought one in July after waiting almost a yr since my computer was lost when our home was struck by lightening!

Hope Everyone has a great day!

Good Afternoon:

I'm at the library now because my router isn't working. No internet at home. Have to get on that.

Sheryl: I've been watching that PBS special as well and it's so interesting. I watch a lot of PBS; they have very good programming.

Happy First Day of Autumn Everyone!! emoticon Had a good walk today. Am increasing my distance and am feeling so much better. I am taking control of my life and choosing better eating and to exercise each day. I hope this means the worst of the grief is behind me now.

Sheryl glad you have other areas to volunteer and hope someone will take over your neighborhood position that does a good job so the quality of your neighborhood doesn't decline. It is aggravating when others complain and make it difficult to do a good job when one is paid but when it is a volunteer position that is just plain rude!!
Is the PBS special about both Roosevelt Presidents? Hope you got your errands run before the rain came!

Srivers and Frosty glad you had a good Sunday! I had a good one too! Am loving the cooler weather here! Walked farther today and am hoping I will soon be back to my 2 - 3 miles a day and the scales will start being kinder!! ;-)

More rain promised today. I do have some errands to run so I will probably get out and do them early. Yesterday I watched the first two segments on Roosevelt from PBS, What a story and what a family. If you get a chance to watch them do, very interesting.

Pat you are right, it is a thankless job being on the board of a community association. I have served for 4 years and enough is enough. Most people don't appreciate what is done and do nothing but complain. I love my work with Slow Food and have been appointed to a statewide conservation committee, I am involved with several community gardens, our Main Street, art association and so many other things that I actually feel are doing good that I do not choose to live with the negativity here.
They are calling for rain for the week here, of course that changes daily, I wouldn't mind though as this past month or so it has been pretty dry.

Happy Lord's Day Everyone! Looks like we will have a lovely day here.

Srivers glad you had a restful day!

Pat glad you had rain, if you needed it. We have been so dry for so long. Have I mentioned we have lake bottoms so dry you can walk from onside to the other without getting muddy feet? Prairie grass is growing so tall in the dry lake bottoms cattle could graze there!
Congrats on the possible wedding help!

The weather is cooler here and the dogs are sure enjoying the time outside. Our state fair starts next weekend and lasts for 3 weeks. We plan on going just not sure when, yet!

Hugs to all!

Gail glad that the leak was easily found and now all will be fixed. When Vickie & Sonny did their bathroom they had a leak and it wasn't easily found but eventually it was tracked down.
By the time you get back, your home should almost be done right? Then it is just putting it all away! Did you find out what they plan on the cruise with all the destruction on the west coast?

Sandy glad to hear you are taking a break. We all need them.

We had rain thru the night and so no early morning walk. However by 8 am it had stopped so we went to a couple of yard sales and then stopped at W-Mart and Aldi for a few groceries.

This afternoon Vickie and I did a little gardening since it was overcast and cooler. I think I may have convinced the finance of the need to hire someone to help Vickie and I with the weeding. emoticon If the rest agree, then that will make our life a little easier. I will still have work, but not nearly as much!!!

Pat

Happy Saturday!!
Pat sorry you lost your beloved dog so soon after your DH#1 and oldest DS going off to college!! Wow!! So many changes all at once! Thankfully our dog is very protective and would come to DD and I and let us hug her and dote on her in our grief. She missed DH but was there for us too. She had 2 litters as a younger dog and has loved having the puppy now. Although the puppy is bigger than she is at this point. ;-) She still plays and can put him in line when needed. The vet said her heart is very strong even though she has outlived her life expectancy for her breed. We know at 16.5 she won't be with us too many more years and that was why we got the puppy now, so he would be an adult dog and protection when she is gone. I hope he adjusts well when we lose her.
Glad your meeting went so well! That is good news!! Obviously you have a good reputation among your neighbors and do a great job with your figures to show them the changes that need to be made.

Gail so glad for you that things are moving along with the remodeling. How way Abner when his family came home? Were you there when they came in? I hope he is a much happier puppy today!
Glad the plumber found that leak! Always nice to have a working complete bathroom again. We have issues with our main bathroom tub and shower. The pressure is too low. It is a long time issue from when DFil was with us and broke the shower control. It probably means tearing out a wall for the repair. But I keep telling my DS that I want it fixed, as it will have to fix it for the house to sell (eventually) so I'd like it to be fixed so I can enjoy it too. ;-) He agrees it is just finding the time.

Sheryl you are right if there is a leak it saves a lot. We are not only charged for the water but based on water consumption we are also charged for sewer.

Hugs to all and hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Gail, it will be a much lower expense to do it now while the tub is out! This way you don't have to pay twice. Think of the money you will save on your water or electric bill, probably pay for itself in a month or two.

Good Morning:

Many of my kitchen drawers and cupboards are empty, so I'm primarily using the microwave to nuke previously prepared food that I froze. I'll have to go on this way till I get things back to normal. I'm leaving in 10 days, so there's just 10 more days of this. Last night I boxed up kitchen things that were in grocery bags that I had set in the living room. This weekend I need to get things off the floor in the 1st floor closets so they can lay the flooring when I'm gone.

I picked out hardware yesterday and that was a pretty painless experience. As it turned out virtually everything I got was on sale or clearance. Also, even with that I'm getting the decorator's discount.

The plumber came and removed the tub, two sinks and two toilets. He'll work on the master bathroom when I'm gone. We haven't used the tub or shower in the hall bathroom in several years because there was a leak that went down to the kitchen ceiling. Yesterday the plumber found the culprit: it was a copper pipe with a slow leak. There was a section that was still damp, so I'll have that fixed, hopefully next week when the painter returns to finish the family room. The will be an unanticipated expense, but I don't want any half baked solution. This is nothing to mess with.

I've still not packed for my trip and I really need to do that well in advance so that I don't freak out just before I leave. Less is better, right?

Sending you all hugs,

Gail

DG-when DH #1 passed away, my German shepherd went downhill quickly. He passed away in June and we had to put her down in Sept. Was so hard but she got so she could not walk and vet was talking thousands for surgery and with 2 boys still at home, I just could not afford to even attempt to do surgery when they were not even sure it would help her. When I had to go in for gallbladder surgery it was forced on me-I could not lift her and one son had gone to AZ to school in Aug and the other was in high school and working and I was home alone so....sad day.
Val so sorry it took so long for you to get in. I am surprised they did not try to fit you in sooner but anymore these docs seem to not do that as they did in years past. How exciting - a bright orange cast. Are you able to work with it?
Sandy sounds like you are as busy as ever. Sure makes time fly doesn't it.
Sheryl sounds like you are coming to the same conclusion as I am. Volunteering and working on things for your association is nice but boy will they take advantage of you too. I made everyone aware that they best be getting ready to hire someone or find more help going forward!!
I took DH to the oncologist today and blood work looked good. He is going to request the records from his gastro doc and will go over things. He is such a sweet heart of a doc. Always gives me a hug when we leave and makes us feel like family. Very interested in what is happening in our lives. I hope he doesn't retire any time soon! I am very confident that he will make good decisions concerning DH's care.
We got home with about 30 min to spare before my finance meeting. I think I almost conducted the meeting. I had 4 pages of items I was concerned with on the budget and we ended up making a number of changes to the proposed budget because of me! However I feel we are more in line with what will likely be required in the coming year. We started at 10 am and it was after 1 when I walked out of there!! I also take the notes so will have to get them typed up and distributed by early next week.
We have been overcast all day and a high of 81 which is very unusual for Sept. but I am very happy about it. We have had a drizzle off and on but no great rain totals.
Pat

Hello Team! Went shopping with DD and a dear friend yesterday. Got a few new outfits! took a walk today with my dog. I am making progress again.

Gail I hope you find a good solution. Pets are wonderful companions. Yes my dogs get up during the night and change sleeping spots and check on us to make sure we are ok. ;-) They are both family protective. I don't remember our Lasa/Schitzu doing that but my children were young and the dog slept closer to them than DH and I, so maybe he did. Even our cat walks around some at night.

Pat how sweet of you and Vickie to donate so much time and effort to the gardens. Great idea to estimate time and prepare someone to take over in the future. You must enjoy it and what a sweet gift to your neighbors and friends!
Your account of Abbie acting like it is your fault when DH is in the hospital reminded me of when my DH passed. It was a long time before our sheltie would quit looking for him. I was glad when she finally adjusted to him not being here.

Sheryl that is a good idea to spend time with the dog. He might be worried that Gail is going to leave too.
Looking forward to cooler temps myself! ;-) Our area has gotten humid since so many land made lakes were made.

Nan love your new purse profile pic! Cute!!!

Srivers hope you got your errands done and didn't get too wet. We had rain yesterday too. I wore my sandals but took my closed toed shoes in case and was glad I did! ;-)

Vali doesn't it get you when a Dr says if you saw me earlier as if it was our choice to wait! Glad it only takes a cast to make it right. Hope you heal well!

Hope everyone has a great day and a wonderful weekend!

Val - I hope you get better soon. Sorry you couldn't get in sooner to see the doctor. But, glad that you were able to pick out a Happy color for your cast.

I just have a minute as I am meeting a client at the warehouse with New signs. Just doing a few things today and then home. It is raining again today so not doing any yard work.

Hope everyone has a good day and a great weekend.

Yes global warming is world wide
I am speaking of one of the many problems that face or Ida specifically. Our state'so economy is based on the building industry for the most part. As long as this money runs our state our environment will continue to fail. We have in the past been a state based on tourism. No one wants heavy industry. In my opinion this is the direction Florida should be heading.
Pat, I am with you, I am also not running for reelection for my condo board. I will continue with my environmental activists boards and of course Slow Food.

Good Morning:

Just got off the phone with Allstate to renew my motor club membership. I happened to ask if they offered a discount to senior citizens and they gave me a 25% discount. Wonder why I haven't thought to do that in the past. I'm learning to always ask.

Val: Hope you heal quickly. Bright orange, eh? You're really making a statement!

Sheryl: Indeed we do have global warming. Even the glaciers are melting at an astonishing rate. How are you doing? Getting stronger and better every day?

Pat: I think it's good for you to give the community committee a heads up on your "retiring" from your volunteer work. Maybe even put it in writing, so they don't pressure you to stay on or come at you later with a guilt trip.

G.

Pat, it got warmer in the afternoon and we closed up again, the open windows are a blessing. I never lived in a house with a/c until after I married. I don't recall ever needing it. I think with all the building and tree removal in the name of progress our climate has gotten hotter.
The only time I remember getting hot was on the Gulf side of FL, there is no ocean breeze or in the middle of the state.

just popping in before I go to bed to tell you guys that when I saw the hand doctor today she told me that if i'd seen her right away she would have put a pin in to keep the broken bone from shifting while it healed. but since I didn't get to see her for until 6 days after I broke my finger, I had to get a cast put on. emoticon oh well. I definitely want it to heal right...

I got to pick the color I wanted and I went with bright orange instead of my favorite color, which is purple. decided to mix things up a bit and surprise the people who know me well. emoticon so anyway, happy colored left hand for 3 1/2 weeks, and now it's time for me to go to bed. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend. emoticon

Sheryl you are cooler than we are-it is 6:30 and we are 89! A/C still on here. Hopefully in another couple of weeks we will be able to turn it off and open the windows. I am looking forward t that.
Gail I do bet Abner is missing his family. Abbie does fine for several days and then our friends say she gets despondent. She doesn't wander but just mopes around. Dogs do think they are family and love everyone close to them. When Bill is in the hospital she is mad at me like it is my fault he is missing!
Walked early but didn't get much else done today-body said it needed rest and I even fell asleep watching the news at noon. I try to listen to my body as I am still having issues with the polymyalgia rheumatica and I do not want to make it any worse.
Did a bit more work this morning on the budget stuff and think I am ready for the meeting tomorrow. Had to get it all organized as Bill has an 8:30 dr appt. and my meeting is at 10.
