Hello Everyone!

Well so happy yesterday that I got out and got me a new phone! It is a Android and has so many things I can do on it! So Cool! It cost $80 but they had a $50 rebate on it to mail in so it only really cost me $30! So happy! Then I went on to Wal Mart and picked up a few groceries and got a roll of quarters to I could wash some clothes today. Got up early this morning and ate breakfast and waited for my friend to pick me up for Weight Watchers. They changed Weight Watchers a lot over the years. I have been on it several times. I love it just need to stick with it. I know I can do it. I like my leader! She is real positive and she even sends out a email each week for us to read that is real positive. plus it always helps to hear others talk. I had lost a lot of weight before my son's wedding 3 years ago I just ended up gaining it all back so it was time to rejoin. I am going to stick with it because now that I have this phone too I can download the app and track on my phone! So there are lots of new tools that really help.

Pat there is a van like that but I have to apply for services and my doctor has to fill out part of it and I just got the application in the mail. I see my doctor in 2 weeks and I will have it done so she can fill out the rest and send it in for me. I do have a van service thru my insurance that gives me rides to and from Doctor appointments so I use them all the time. I really don't ride the bus that much and my church is on the bus route and it is only about 15 min to get there and then I usually find someone to give me a ride home. So I don't have to use the bus much.

I am happy to be up early in the day so I have all day to get some things done and just relax too. Like I said I am so busy during the week that the weekends are nice to just rest!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Darla

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

This is weird. When I look at "recent posts" I see Sheryl was the last to post. But when I come to the messages it is not there. I logged out and then logged back in again, but that didn't do anything. Maybe when I post this her message will come up.

Gail, you are a traveling lady, is this for work or fun? Enjoy your trip and your porch. Nothing like sitting out on the porch and letting the world go by.

Hi again:

Well, I'm really tired and know much of it is stress. I'm going to Iceland in June and the time is creeping up. Today I ordered some Icelandic currency through my bank. Everything is paid for but tips for the director and driver, and the lunches. Breakfast and dinner are provided. As for the other sources of stress, well, they are the flooring for my home and my indecision as to whether or not to get out of my home and move to an apartment. I keep going round and round.

This week's auction went well and I'll have enough for yet another trip. Also, I sold the last of Vic's gun collection and picked up a check for that today. The professor will come the end of June...I hope... and will send the archival materials to the institute in NYC. God...I can't wait to be done will all of this. I was given a spa certificate for my birthday and I think I'll use it it the next few days. I'm really bummed out.

All that being said, I did push myself onto the screened porch this afternoon and enjoyed a few hours reading. It was so good out there...like a private park..quiet and lovely to look at with the landscape that my neighbors did.

Wishing you all sweet dreams,

Gail

Darla are there any options to the bus-we have a senior bus available to seniors and disabled where you call ahead of time and they will pick you up and bring you back and I think the cost is $2 each way. Does you church offer rides? I know most of the churches around here have volunteers who pick up folks who don't have a ride. Even in our park we have what we call Helping Hands and volunteers take folks who need rides to dr's appointments, shopping, pick up medicine, etc.
We had a full day-walked early and then took DH to the oncologist at 9. His labs are improving but his hemoglobin is still quite low so instead of his usual 2 mo. follow-up, it will just be a month this time. If he continues to improve then he can go back to his regular schedule.
I finished my cleaning when we got home and then took about a 30 min break before heading to the office where I worked for 45 min. We had company coming at 1 and this afternoon we played cards with friends.
We have gotten rain the past 2 days-3/4 inch yesterday evening and 1.5 inches today. That makes me happy as the grass has really been turning brown.
Hope all of you have a great weekend.
Pat

Gail, I usually go to the beach and parks just to wander, we have a beautiful botanical garden that I visit, when you live in paradise, there is always much to do and all at no charge.
Darla, I tried weight watchers many years ago, I did not do well with them, there was a complete concentration on food, how to cheat and many other things that I was not happy with, I imagine it was the leader, but I for one cannot think of food all day and not eat it. No mention of exercise. It was mainly about how to get your sugar or save your points for an indulgence. Not for me.

Hello Everyone!

Hope everyone is having a great Friday! I am always when Friday finally gets here but the weekend is the best! Mon - Friday is when all my caseworkers and doctors all the people I have appointments with each week are working and I Have to meet with them. This is every week! Saturday is I am good I get up and go to Weight Watchers. I had a new friend who was starting to give me a ride there and back and she told me Sat was her last day. She lost her job and has not been able to find another one and can't afford Weight Watchers anymore. I am not doing good on it and starting to feel like I am wasting my money again too. I love the meetings but it does add up at $43 a month. And now I will have to take the bus there and back which takes a long time because the bus only runs every hour on Saturday and Sundays. then Sunday I try to get up and go to Sunday School and church go to any women's activies we have and this time I will be doing the Women's Bible Study again which is on Wedl. nights but if they have a day one I might do it this time. The night one is hard because it goes over 9 pm, and the last bus runs around then and I hate always asking someone to take me home even though I only live about 15 min from the church. I had been missing a lot of church and have missed the last 2 weeks but Sunday I am determined to go back. It just makes me feel so good to go back. I love both of our preachers and I have a lot of new friends there and friends outside there and way way too much family! It is hard to keep up with everyone sometimes! I was so happy when facebook came out and I could put all my friends and famly in one place to communicate! pretty smart kid who figured it out! Lots of funny things on there too that make me laugh every day!

Well I have a pretty busy day. have to go check on a new phone to see how much it will cost since mine is really messed up and I have had 3 blackberrys and no more! I am ready for something a lot better! Then I have to go to the bank and then to Wal mart but the bank is across the street from Wal mart and both are just about 15 min down the road from me so that is nice!

Hope everyone has a great day today ! Stay warm and do something fun today! Get outside if you can! Have a awesome day!

Darla

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

We were up for an early walk (me 6:30 and Bill 7) and it was already muggy but at least a breeze. After a bite to eat I headed up front to finally plant the 3 rose bushes I have had sitting in the carport for a week. The maintenance man had to use the mule to pull the old ones out-they had some roots that looked like tree roots! I still had to cut some more roots out when I was planting. They are in now and I was hoping for some rain but so far all we hear is thunder. We just can't seem to get any it has been going all around us. I did run the sprinklers after I planted them so they at least got watered today.

Once that was done, I came home and called the dr's office and was so thankful to hear they had found the check I couldn't find yesterday. Evidently I dropped it or it blew out of the car. Before I went to pick it up, I stopped by the office and got my paycheck for the hours I worked in training so I put both in the bank. Wasn't planning on that trip but it was necessary.

I stopped by Publix on my way home and picked up what I needed to make chicken and dumplings. I needed more frozen dumplings and broth. I had used part of the package of dumpling I had and didn't think it would be enough. By the time I got out of there I had $40 in the cart! I used the chicken breasts I had brought home from the Memorial Day dinner as my meat. I put them on to cook when I got home from the store and let them simmer all afternoon. They were so good. Nice and thick broth. We shared them with Bruce and Carol, our retired minister who is having major health issues. They are normally in NJ by now but they aren't sure when they will get to leave. They were to see another dr today. He can barely walk-we gave him Bill's walker some time ago and he uses it daily. I don't think they get much pension so try to help what we can.

I worked with Sharon for an hour and a half this afternoon and she leaves in the morning so I am on my own for the next month! Hoping nothing major comes up.

Bill did the sheets for me today and we worked on cleaning the house. He ran the vacuum and I dusted. I still need to mop so will have to do that tomorrow. Don & Lin are to come in the afternoon to play cards.

The inspector came about 12:30 and was here for 5 min and said all is good and he signed off on inspection certificate so glad that is done. I pulled off all the stickers on the windows and it looks a lot better without them on there!

Bill is missing his birds-the babies didn't come back last night so guess they are gone for good now.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Pat

Good afternoon Everyone!

Hope everyone is doing well today and feeling good and having some sunshine where you live! It is sunny and warm today and no rain! I think tomorrow and Sat we are suppose to have some more rain but the rest of the week is sunny and warm.

I went to bed real early this morning then got woke up at 9 am by my dr office to remind me of my appointment tomorrow but had to reschedule as I have to go get my blood work done again and ti takes about week for them to get the results. So I scheduled it two weeks from now so I have time to get it done next week along with everything else I have to do next week.

Called my other caseworker who was working on getting my apt cleaned by someone today and she said he fax had been messing up so she had not gotten the fax from the cleaning lady but he fax had been messing up so she was going to call her and have her fax it to her supervisor who is the one who has to approve it. Government things take so long. The other caseworker was my housing caseworker who I see all the time and she is new so I have only seen her once and she is only going to come every two weeks so I am happy. I complained about my other caseworker to his boss . He was stressing me out all the time telling me I was going to lose my housing and how I couldn't go back to the homeless shelter and they wouldn't help me for 5 years and enen told my I needed to live in an assisted living center! So I complained and his boss came out and I ask for a woman caseworker so she is much nicer and so far easy to deal with. But she is coming next Friday again. Ihave several caseworkers working with me right now and so it gets confusing sometimes even for me!

hope everyone has a great day!

Darla

I am dying getting up so early-another morning I was up before 6! However, I am enjoying walking early and watching the sun come up. I am amazed at how the fish are flopping in the lake going after the bugs. Today I only saw one large gator floating by the docks. Maybe they slept in this morning!

Bill & Sonny walked before 7 and after getting showers, we were all off to breakfast. We had 7 show up today. Our waitress told us she is leaving (today was her last day) but she will be back in Sept. She & her husband travel in a 5th wheel in the summer. We could all relate as she was talking to a group of former rv'ers.

We got back home a little after 9 and I had just enough time to get Abbie bathed and gather the clothes for Bill to put in the laundry before I had to head to a finance meeting. Our insurance for the community took a big increase so we had to figure out how to pay for it! We do our annual budget back in Sept-Oct so we had budgeted in an increase, but not nearly as much as this. We have it covered for this year, but will have to rob from Peter to pay Paul to cover it next year! Our income is pretty well fixed unless we raise our fees so something else is going to get less to cover this cost next year. We have been looking for a new golf cart for the park and one of the board members is moving and willing to sell his cart at a very reasonable price so we will be purchasing it. Luckily his price is going to be less than we had budgeted so we will have that $$ to help cover something else. Our mule is having issues so trying to decide whether to purchase another one or to replace it with a golf cart. We have a truck that the park owns so we can use it also so will be trying to resolve all these issues and if we can find a suitable replacement other than the mule which is very expensive, the old one can be sold to help make up some of the cost. Always financial issues to try to juggle!

I didn't get home from the meeting till 11:30. Bill had to go to the gastro doc at 1:15. Well, that is what I had written down but they say his appointment was yesterday at 3! I could understand if I had gotten the day wrong but not the day and time!!! What a big mixup! Anyhow they worked him in but it was 3 before we got in a room and 3:30 before we saw the dr and he didn't spend even 5 min with Bill. Pushed on his tummy and said he needs to swallow the pill camera so he can check the area he can't see from the scope at either end so that is scheduled for 2nd wk in June.

By the time we finally got out of there it was 3:45! A long time sitting in the waiting room as we arrived about 1! Somewhere I managed to lose a check I was taking to the bank to cash. Luckily it was not signed-I never do that till I get to the bank-so now I have to call to have Window World stop payment on it and reissue it! I did have a call from the dr's office when we got home - missed them by about 10 min but the gal who called could not be located so I think she must have gone home for the day. I will call tomorrow morning and check to see if she found the check and if not I will call to put things in motion. Since she called for me and not Bill, I am praying she did find it! Sure would save a lot of headache for me and WW.

I stopped at Dollar General to pick up a couple of cards for birthdays and anniversaries and that was when I realized I didn't have the check as the bank was my next stop and I was going to get it ready. Since I didn't go to the bank (I actually thought I probably left the check at home) I stopped at Walgreens to pick up some medicine to help with Bill's gas issue that the dr said for him to take. Last stop was at Publix for milk and by the time we got home it was 4:40! What an afternoon.

We had leftover roast for our supper. I was glad I didn't have to cook after all of this.

Sandy glad to hear the a/c is in and hopefully all is working great. That is going to be the last big ticket item we need to replace, but my son who is in heating and cooling said to run this one till it dies as the new ones are more efficient but don't last nearly as long!

Gail what a scare. So glad you didn't have any issues.

Darla hope you get to see the case-worker soon so you can get some extra help So good that you are getting some of that back child support to help you out.

Pat

Happy Hump Day Everyone!

Well just found out last night I got another child support check in the child support office and it should be on my child support card tomorrow or Friday! So happy it came in sooner than I thought as I was very low on money and food. Then the 3rd I get my social security check but since I forgot to renew my Medicaid and they were paying for my Medicare premium my check will be $200 short. So thankful my ex husband is working and paying the back child support now. I would be in big trouble to pay my bills if he were not. He has never been reliable with paying it or helping me with money at all . I have paid for everything for my kids. Glad I have some extra money coming in.

Well put on my chicken along with a can of chicken broth, two cans of cream of chicken soup, 1 can of cream of mushroom soup which I added to the recipe and cooking it for 5 to 6 hours in the crockpot then the last 30 minutes cut up a can of grand biscuits and roll them in flour and drop them in the last 30 min for the dumplings. I have not made chicken and dumplings in many many years and saw this recipe on facebook then added the chicken broth because of pat's recipe and I had the cream of mushroom that I love with the cream of chicken in recipes and I think it will turn out really good! I can't wait to try it! I have a friend that eats chicken and dumplings all the time and she just got me hungry for them!

well my caseworker called and couldn't come today and changed it to next week so I was happy for that since I had just got up and around. Cleaned on my apt some and will keep working on it today as I can.

hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Well, we got the A/C in but, it was an all day job. Which means I got nothing else done. They arrived at 10am and left at about 5pm. What a day. I did do some cleaning and organizing but, the guys were in and out of the house. At least it didn't rain yesterday.

Today I am able to get to the store. Then DH has a doctor appt. So, we'll get a bite to eat afterwards.

We are support to get T-storms today but, so far it is partly sunny.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

Good Morning:

Well, I got some samples of flooring yesterday. Actually, they're not all that different in color and only a little different in texture. Need to show it to my daughter. I'm going to get tiles (not ceramic) for the kitchen, mud room and downstairs powder room. The color of the sample I brought back is not quite right so I need to get something else. I warned the salesman that I will probably be back for something different. Come to think of it, my daughter said to look at Berber, but I didn't bring back any. This whole thing is very stressful. In the past few days, I've been eating too much in fear and anticipation. Yesterday I was eating non stop. Thankfully, it was good stuff: fruit, a homemade salmon loaf, (But I ate the whole loaf!) and salad. I had one slice of gluten free bread and finished off the average size portion of home-made black bean dip. Got to get a grip.

We had a flash flood warning last night and there was bad flooding in different spots around town. I am at the top of a hill, and I have a basement. None-the-less, I need to be mindful of water entering the basement because there is a downward slope in my backyard. When we bought the house the landscaper contoured the backyard to prevent water from entering the basement. About 10 years ago we had dirt in the backyard added around the house in the back, and planted around the entire rear periphery of the house. They put down some dirt, plastic sheeting, dirt, plantings and rocks over the soil around the plants. It was quite a production.

Hope you all enjoy the day.

Gail

Dusty: Take care, dear friend. You sound really wiped out. I'll be keeping you in my prayers and hope the tests were favorable.

Hello Everyone!

Gail - I am sure you will do fine with the floor samples! That is a lot of hard work if you are doing it yourself! I would have to get someone to help me because I know nothing about it!

Pat- I like that idea of using frozen dumplings too and the chicken broth. I had just seen this recipe on facebook that a friend of mine had posted and it sounded so much more simply than doing it from scratch like I always have! I had a real southern cooking mother and make a lot of southern dishes like she did! hard to change that! But I love chicken and dumplings! I got up too late to make them today so I will try tomorrow to make them. Thanks for the extra things to add. !

Sandy- Glad your BIL is coming soon to help you guys again. That is really nice of him to do. Hope you can get some rest today!

I didn't have anything to do today so I stayed up later last night watching 48 hours on OWN and then finally went to bed but had trouble sleeping so I finally went to sleep this morning late and got up just now. I am going to make some supper and pick up the living room. My caseworker is coming at 1 pm tomorrow. I have only met with her once but she seems nice.

Well hope everyone has a great evening!

Darla

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

Good Afternoon:

Gee, I don't eat like you guys at all. I only use fresh fruits and veggies, dry beans, spices, and fresh meat. The only canned stuff I get is tuna or salmon, though on occasion I have used canned beans. There are a lot of chemicals in the canned, packaged and frozen prepared foods and I'm better off without them if I don't want my arthritis to act up.

Went and picked up some floor samples. Gosh, I'm scared. I have no talent in this.

G.

Darla I use chicken broth and add celery and carrots (if I have them on hand) and always some onion finely chopped. After the veggies cook, I add the chicken meat (this time I will use the meat I brought home from the dinner) and if I don't have any frozen, I will use the canned chicken and it tastes good too. I used to make the dumplings from scratch but then I found frozen dumplings. A gift from the Gods! for sure. I love them. I only use a half pkg at a time so the $2.98 cost isn't bad and DH likes them so makes life simpler that me mixing up the dough, rolling it out, letting it dry after I cut them up and then cleaning up this big flour mess all over my kitchen! emoticon Semi-homemade is my favorite way to cook!!!

I walked at 6 am so that I could make it to work by 8 am. I was 5 min late so guess next week I will walk at 5 am to be sure I am on time!!!! I put in 4 hours this morning. That was the longest time I spent there. I have to go back Thur afternoon for last minute instructions and to get the keys and come Mon morning, I am on my own for the month!!!

We are taking Vicky & Sonny out to eat this afternoon for their anniversary-45 years today. Looking forward to it as we are going to a new restaurant. Hoping they enjoy it.

Sandy it sounds like you are having a busy day. Glad BIL will arrive soon and hopefully give you a little extra help.

Pat

Pat I was surprised the dentist worked today too but several employees left after I was seen. I think I was their only patient today! But it does feel good to have my teeth clean the top ones. Have to go back later in june to do the bottem ones.

Your dinner sounds good! I saw a recipe on facebook a friend of mine posted for Chicken and Dumplings in the crockpot I am going to try. Just put several pieces of breast in crockpot with two T of butter , onlion and two cans of cream of chicken soup and the last 30 min cut up however many grand biscuits you want in it for the dumplings. You cook the chicken and mixture for 5 to 6 hours. Sounds easy and good! I am going to try it tomorrow if I get up in time!

Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day!

Darla I am surprised that the dentist worked today. Glad you got the cleaning behind you but sorry you didn't sleep before going.
We had a nice time at the community dinner and they had broasted chicken which was nice. I even brought home 2 breast that I plan to use to make some chicken and dumplings for DH. He loves it and if I make a big batch I can freeze some for later. I will even share with our friends who aren't doing so well.
Off to work in the morning. Not sure if this will be my last training session or not. Sharon leaves on the 1st so I will be a busy gal in June.

Hello Everyone!

Hope everyone is having a nice Memorial Day and yes we do need to remember all the military that gave their lives for our freedom.

Well all last night and all day today it has been raining and rained so much that there is flooding in some places. My flower bed is full of water and they made drainage ditch between my apt and the next on to the left of me and it is full of rain! We sure needed it! But don't think anyone was expecting it to flood and we are expecting rain all week.

I didn't sleep last night because the van was coming to get me at 930 this morning to take me to my dentist appointment at 10. I got my top teeth cleaned and they are really sore but feel great! I laid down and slept for several hours when I came home. Now I just have to make some supper and think I will make some spaghetti and meat sauce. I think it will be soft enough for me to eat. Still can only eat soft foods but he did say my site where my teeth were pulled looked great!

Well hope everyone has a great day and evening!

emoticon Blessings on this Memorial Day to those who died to give us the freedoms we have today. May we never forget them and their ultimate sacrifice for the rest of us.

We will go to a community dinner this evening in honor of this day. We display flags all thru the community for the weekend as a tribute to those who gave all.

I got up and walked quite early today as it has been very hot the past week and I knew I wanted to get several things done outside. I pruned some of the roses in the park (a never ending task) and then came home and got the last section of concrete edging sealed. I am so glad to have that job done till next year. Sad thing is I do not have enough sealer left to do it and will hate to buy another gallon when the time comes.
I made my salad to take to the dinner this evening and had marshmallows left over so made rice krispie treats to take and share.

Happy Memorial Day to all of you.

Good Morning:

Getting rid of 4 TVs today, 3 consoles from the 1950s, 1970s and 1980s, and a smaller 1990s Mitsubishi. This afternoon I'm getting my hair cut and will make a trip over to Savers. They are having a 50% off sale. I don't really need anything but I'll just look around.

What are you all doing today?

Gail

If you can Darla, there are trolleys that run all over major tourist sites, this will get you out to see the area and learn more about the history and the now. I know it is hard without a car. Another shame that we have become so chained to this method that the cities do not even provide for pedestrians or bike riders anymore.

Gail- That is so sad about losing someone on this site! It is hard for people to stay on top of thieir health if they don't have insurance. I am thankful I do have Medicare and Medicaid and I see my doctor often to get my blood work done and stay on top of my health. Both of my parents were very sick when they died and I try to stay on top of my health. I have a lot of the same things they had. That is so sad!

Sheryl- my brother's girlfriend has talked about big market here and I think I heard one other person talk about it. Not sure where it is as I have only lived here for almost 4 years but since I don't have a car not sure where to go on the bus unless I have a address but I will look it up online and see if I can find a address. I think it is a flea market and it might have a farmers market with it. Thanks!

Well Spurs lost the game by quite a lot But we are still ahead 2 games to 1 so we will see what happens in this series. Both teams are really good and it is fun to watch!

Hope everyone has a good night and a good day tomorrow!

Congratulations on your weight loss Gail. I too am saddened by the loss of your friend. I do not understand how this can be happening in a civilized country that a person has to forgo health care.
Darla, I have never been to San Antonio, but I seem to remember hearing about the beautiful market that is there. Maybe you can look it up on line.

Good Evening:

Travis invited me to his family's cookout today and it was lovely. His wife and child, his sister and her husband, and his parents were there. Very nice people. I stopped at a bakery and brought bars for dessert. They were very attractive, but happily, they didn't tempt me. As I've said so often before, I'm not into sweets.

Last night I had a phone call from a Sparker's husband. He called to tell me she died on May 16 and the poor man was in tears. I notified our team and we were all greatly saddened. Such a loss. They didn't have insurance, so this woman never went for annual checkups because of the expense. It cost her her life. I'm so saddened. It's a great reminder that every day is a gift; that's why we call a gift a present.

Sweet dreams and hugs for all,

Gail

Darla: Here's an interesting thing: I am losing fat, but not weight. My weight has been the same for weeks now. Losing fat, especially the "hard fat" is critical for good health, because it's that fat that is around our organs. I'm still doing the spices and tea. No big deal and as long as it works I'm fine. The tea is a very strong antioxidant, so it serves two purposes.

Hello Everyone!

Sheryl- Farmers markets are great! I had one in Norman okla before I moved to San Antonio but don't have a car now so not sure if there is one here in San Antonio or not.

Pat- Glad Bill is doing a little better! I know he will feel better once he gets the blood built back up in his system. Good you will be working and getting some extra money in June!

Gail- Congrats on your weight loss! That is an inspiration! Way to go!

I didn't do anything today. I was going to go to Sunday School and church but it was raining and I didn't want to walk to the bus stop in the rain. The field I have to walk thru to get there is muddy when it rains and I Have slipped before on it and almost fell so I decided not to go today. I am watching the Spurs and thunder play their 3rd game in the series of basketball! So exciting to watch! I have seen the Thunder play in person in Oklahoma City and just cheer for the Spurs here in San Antonio! not sure who is going to win! Fun to watch!

I have to get up early in the morning to go to the dentist at 10 am to get my teeth cleaned. I can't get fitted for my dentures because I don't have my Medicaid back yet and can't afford the cash price so it will be a while. But I have learned to eat without them pretty good. Still just eat soft foods and that works pretty well. the score is 29 to 28 end of 1st quarter with the spurs leading ! This is an exciting game!

Hope everyone has a good night and day tomorrow!

I am looking forward to the blackberries which will be coming in sometime in June. I went picking twice last year. They have the vines on long wire so they are all up high and easy to pick. It doesn't take long to fill a bucket and that makes a couple of pies or cobblers.

We got a little shower late afternoon. The thunder was worse than anything as that upset Abbie. I was making a roast so Bill had to add the veggies as she didn't want me to get up and leave her!

Sandy Bill is doing so much better. His hemoglobin is still low but it is going to take a little time to build that back up after all the blood he lost. He has more dr visits this week. We are trying to get everything in before I start work the following week. I will only work 3-4 days a week and likely only 4 hrs a day. I may have to work more early in the month to keep up since I am not familiar with everything but it will ease up by the middle of the month. I am looking forward to the challenge.

Hope all of you are having an awesome weekend.

Yes Sandy, I keep my farmers on speed dial. It is almost the end of season here, we will pick up some vendors from N. Florida, we will get beans and okra throughout the summer locally, that is about it. Florida is unique that we have a fall winter spring growing season below the central part of the state, then pretty much a season that coincides with the other states the rest of the year although some of the seasons overlap. Starting to get melons in from N. Florida right now and they are delightful, blueberries soon, although I already have some from the central state area and the southern part has been over for a while. Got to love the variety.

Gail - That is wonderful. You are an inspiration to all of us. That is such a wonderful story.

Pat - I think you ask if I use real Lemons in one my recipe in the My Secrets and the answer is yes. How is Bill doing?

Copperpenny - I am glad that you are able to stay off the meds and that you are doing better.

Darla - Sounds like you are doing really good.

Sheryl - Farmers Markets are always fun. But, it is even better when you have a nice re-pore with the vender. Hope you had a good time.

Nan - Always nice to have you Pop in.

Val - Hope you are able to get some rest. I know you have been really working hard.

Have a great rest of the weekend everyone!

Gail you are inspiring us to be more conscious of what we are eating and doing. I got fresh lemons at the market this morning and DH & I are going to start drinking the tea tomorrow.

Copperpenny I do hope things go well and you are able to stay off the meds. It is always great to get away from as many meds as we can. It sounds like you are busy getting your garden going and that you have made a lot of progress cleaning out the house. I have been taking out lots of books that I was hanging onto. It is so nice to have the extra space.

Sandy so happy that you have found that sign and won't have to spend $$ to replace it. I know that has to be a relief. Enjoy the 3 day weekend.

We walked before 7 this morning and by 8:30 we were on our way to the market. It was nice that part of it was in an air conditioned building so we varied our browsing by doing some outside in the heat and then cooling down inside and that seemed to work for us.

Nothing big planned for the weekend except the community dinner Mon eve at 5,

Take a moment this weekend and give thanks for all those who served and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice. We need to always remember what this holiday is for and not just think that it is a 3 day weekend.

Gail, the quote really said something to me too, many of us are allowing the past to dictate how we feel and act today, it can't be changed we need to move on one way or the other.

Today is market day, I just love going to market and seeing all my friends there. Funny enough I have established a relationship with the farmers more so than other patrons. I know who grows what and how they grow it. It makes me feel good to know that much about the food I eat.

Well, we are finally getting 3 days off. The other good news is that we thought we were going to have to pay for a lost sign that the driver that took the bush out miss placed. That would of coat us $1035.00. But, DH found it in our storage unit filed away. I had looked for it and couldn't find it as the kid that helps us had filed it where it shouldn't been filed. Any ways we found it and now the Agent is happy and we are very happy. Now, we just have the the home owner to deal with which is the ex-husband. The wife is really nice and she is fine with the replacement of the plant.

I am happy that the guys get 3 days off as they have worked really hard the last few weeks.

I hope that everyone has a great 3 day weekend.

Bless those that serve and protect us. May God Protect and look after them. emoticon

Good Morning Sparkers:

emoticon After my shower I looked at myself in the mirror and you know what I saw? I saw a lady with an hourglass figure...a big hour glass figure to be sure, but a body with a waist. I haven't had a waist in decades. When I dressed this morning I put on a new pair of summer slacks that I got a couple of weeks ago. Well, the waist was loose enough that I felt better with a belt. Now, please understand, I haven't worn a belt in decades. Well, I found one and had to put it on the third hole. Boy, I've really come a long way. Still have belly fat to lose, but it's going away and it's making me very happy. I'm still eating a lot, but I'm eating the right stuff and keeping clear of sugar and gluten. I do have some dairy, but not much and not often.

Wishing you all a happy day,

Gail

Mary: It's so good to see you posting again. I know what you mean about getting off meds; I'd love to. Let us know when you are going in for surgery. I'll be praying for you.

Sheryl: Boy, your latest quote really spoke to me.

"Do not let the future be held hostage by the past." Neal A. Maxwell

I've been living with a lot of anger and sadness. Last weekend my daughter told me the past is hurting nobody but myself; it cannot be changed. She's right, and so is Neal Maxwell. I'm doing much better this week and have actually felt pleasure with little things like the weather and sitting outside on my screened porch reading a book. Thanks for posting words of wisdom.

They keep saying that we'll get some storms but they go around us. I got the orchard & half the yard mowed yesterday & will finish the other half this morning. Bill has to replant some Roma tomatoes & will pick the strawberrys Since they cut my meds in half I have some more energy but still get tired easly & so sleepy! the heart dr called, Thursday, and they want to do another heart test & then do the heart surgery. I'm really hoping that thye cut out the rest of the meds. Have managed to get most of the house sorted & just have Bill's den & a bit of the library to finish. A friend came by & took all the stuff I wanted out of the house. she's really into yard sales! And her taking the stuff really helps me.

Time to go . Hope everyone has a good & safe week end!

Sounds like everyone is going to have a busy weekend. I remember how we always got the flowers ready and took them to the cemetery on Memorial Day and they had a service in town to honor the military. Some of the old ways were not so bad. It kept history alive and the kids grew up knowing the meaning of the holiday. I think kids today just think of it as that, a holiday, not a day of remembrance
I took the car in to get the tint on the windows this morning. Glad that is done. I hated not having it on there as it really does help down here. As Sheryl said, it is hot in FL! We are to hit 95 today and 97 tomorrow. Then hopefully the cool front will cool us back down by Sun eve.
This afternoon I took DH to see his primary physician and his labs are improving. He isn't up to "snuff" yet but as the dr said, it is going to take time. He says unless there is a problem he won't see him again until Aug. He normally goes 6 mo between visits but with all that has happened he wanted to just go 3 months this time.
We hope to go early tomorrow to a flea market as there are a couple of items we want to look for and then maybe hit another nursery to look for plants for the front of the clubhouse. I do want to get those planted soon!
No big plans for Sun but Monday we have a community picnic at 5. I wish they had it earlier but guess we will deal with the time. The social club furnishes the chicken and we all bring either a salad, dessert or main dish to share so believe me no one goes away hungry.
I need to go to W-Mart to pick up a script for DH but think I may wait till tomorrow (probably a bad idea with the holiday weekend) but just not in the mood to go now.
Pat.

Hello everyone!

I am just waiting for a cleaning lady to come to do a estimate on my apt as to do the things I can't do any more. Then another organization will pay for it and I will work out a day next week she can come and do it . That will be great! She sounds like a nice lady!

We are expecting rain every day until tues! Not sure how much but it is sunny right now so maybe later before the rain hits. I am planning on just getting some reading done this week and doing what I can do on my apt so she doesn't have as much to do. Not going anywhere this weekend and hopefully will get to Weight Watchers tomorrow if Erin K is going . I have not called her yet to see. Then Sunday I hope to make it to Sunday School and Church. Monday I have another dentist appointment to get my teeth cleaned so that should be a lot of fun! lol I hate dental work!

Well hope everyone has a good weekend! And yes we do need to remember those who served for our country and still are serving. My Dad was one of them! He served in the Korean War but got out and then married my mom . They were married 23 and half years when he died. Then she remarried 4 years later and was married to my step Dad over 30 years when she died 3 years ago! long marriages!

Hope everyone has a great weekend! :)

Darla

Taking every day as a gift from God and being so thankful for my kids and my very funny granddaughter! Each day is a new day and I am thankful for it.

Things are going good even though it is raining. Talked to BIL last night not too sure to when he is coming into town as he said he didn't make plane reservation yet. So, I don't know what is going on. Hopefully he will come up soon to get the truck so we can park the two truck we do us on the driveway. This way we won't have any more problems with the HOA.

Any way, what kind of plans do you have for Memorial day? Lets not forget those who serviced and protect us. emoticon

Yes, our issues were more of determining if we really wanted to step into a lawsuit with the Federal government, what other agencies would be willing to join us and how to pay for the atty's fees without breaking the banks. Job done, lawsuit filed and I hope this is most of what we have to do.
I am planning to have a slow summer and will be able to at least stop by once a day. Hugs to all.

Good Morning:

Well, ladies, things are really moving along. Yesterday the cable guy came because I wasn't getting one of my channels...TCM. I love the old movies from the late 1920s through the mid 1940s and it was breaking up. He got the downstairs to work, but not the upstairs. The only way to fix the upstairs was to run the cable from the outside into the upstairs room. I was going to have that done anyway because I absolutely hated what Vic did. He ran a long, long cable wire from a splitter in the family room through the foyer, up the stairs, through the upstairs hall and all the way through the bedroom. No more cable running through the house. Additionally, the prop man from the American Players theater came and picked up the big steamer trunk, so now that's gone too. Travis is coming later and will take a small load for auctioning: a large box of records (33 1/3) and a metal storage rack. There is also some smaller things. Then, this afternoon the professor will go through a trunk load and several boxes of archival materials. WOO HOO!

Wishing you all a great Memorial Day weekend. My friend is taking me to lunch tomorrow and I'm looking forward to that. I have no special plans but will have some brats, potato salad and sour kraut ( that's traditional here ), and will reflect on Monday the meaning of the Memorial Day and give thanks to those who gave so much. So often this weekend is just thought of as a holiday for fun and the commemoration to those who served gets forgotten.

Gail

Sheryl: Sounds exhausting. Work with committees can be quite trying. Were you working with a group who all saw eye to eye?

Sounds like everyone has been so busy, me too, sorry I have not been around the last few days. Of my many obligations, one was sitting on a board of an alliance that is filing a federal lawsuit. This has been exacting and nerve wracking. Over now, Now we wait.

We got half of the west side of the concrete edging sealed today. DH helped by cutting away the grass and I pulled it up and put it into a bucket to haul to the dump and then cleaned the edging off and got it sealed. I even got the ironing caught up and then it was off to see the vet. Abbie had her annual visit and all is well. Of course our wallet is quite a bit lighter but happy she is a healthy girl.
We stopped to see our friends, Don & Lin on the way home. He see the surgeon tomorrow and is hoping to get his aneurysm fixed soon. He is a ticking time bomb and they will be glad to have this one taken care of. He still has another one on his aorta.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
Pat
