Thank you Laurie - I'll save this for later. Too many things going on right now to focus on it, but I'd like to give a listen.

The Marlene Meyerson JCC, our local JCC, began its three-part program, "The Price of Whiteness: Jews, Race and American Identity" two days ago. The link to the replay (alas, not split-screen as was the live presentation), "1619, 1654, 2021 Jews, Race, and US History" on Youtube is:

I was expecting a discussion of Jews as subjected to anti-Semitism and racism. The focus, however, surprised me although it really is no surprise in view of current race relations and racism in this country. This was a discussion worth hearing on a few levels.

The Youtube link came within the email, below, from Rabbi Shuli Parker of MMJCC. Her email address is included for those who wish to comment on the program. You'll also see the next two topics in the series as well as a list of resources: [nb: B'nai Jeshurun is a Conservative shul on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.]

"On behalf of the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan and B'nai Jeshurun, I want to thank you for joining us for yesterday's program with Dr. Marc Dollinger, 1619, 1654, 2021: Jews, Race, and US History. We hope that you found it compelling and timely. You can watch the recording of the program [here] and learn more about the topics we covered using the resources listed at the bottom of this email.

"We hope you will join us for the next program in our Jews and Racism series, The Price of Whiteness: Jews, Race, and American Identity. This program will feature a conversation between Professor Eric Goldstein of Emory University and Dove Kent, senior strategy officer at Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice, and will take place on Tue, May 4 at 7:30 pm. [nb: It will also be available at Youtube a day or so after.]

"And for those of you looking for more social justice educational opportunities, please consider joining us for one of the following upcoming programs:
Thu, Apr 15: Desegregating NYC's Public Schools
Tue, Apr 20: Jewish Coalition on Criminal Justice Reform DA Forum

"If you have feedback on the session or ideas for future programs, I invite you to send them to me at sparker@mmjccm.org.

"All the best,
Sheryl Parker

Consider donating blood. Covid-19 kept lots of donors from continuing and, now, July, 2021, many areas of the country are short of supplies. Contact the blood bank in your area or a nearby hospital/medical center. If you're in the NYC/NJ area, we have the long-established New York Blood Center, phone 800-688-0900.
