That is my feeling exactly. With 20-some-odd candidates, I will wait to see how it shakes out.

I'm trying not to get emotionally attached to any of the current candidates yet. I know I'll vote for whomever the Dems put up - but after what happened last time around, I'm just waiting to see what happens in the next 12 months.

I totally followed you. No reason to apologize. You are absolutely correct in your reasoning. No matter how romantic-looking the third-party candidate might be, the way our government is structured, there is no chance in hell for a third-party candidate to win. It has never happened before, even with people with deep pockets.

So, go Candidate Smith! We all are rootin' for ya!

At this point who knows. but once its down to the orange and one other candidate, thats the one. the libertarian or the independent may be great but if you dont vote for the dem, with the dem win? will the 3rd party person win? probably not. so it just gives less votes to candidate D who needs all the votes they can get in the states. so the electoral college will have to go to dems. think about what happened this election. who won - "did not vote" won. in some states that swung the electoral college i think (not many and my memory may be off). so if its trump(r), smith(d), and third, vote for smith. but the next 18 months orwhatever will tell who's the best of the 24. i just hope some drop out and go to senate. but "did not vote" swung the last election. i wouldnt have a problem with a 3rd party but they need to get out there and be able to beat both trump and smith. if its clear they cant, vote for smith so smith gets the college! sorry to ramble, i'm sooo tired.

And to what candidate we should support: heaven only knows. After what happened the last time with the polls predicting a landslide for Hillary, they have clearly shown that the polls do not mean a thing. So even though it is clearly showing currently that Biden has a good chance to defeat Trump, I am not so sure anymore.

Phebe, I did start the process for the passport and even got the pictures. But then I just stopped. I really should do that again. No Jew should ever go without a passport.

dunno. thats my problem - i'm depressed bcause no one seems to know what to do. look how many people support drumpf and mcconnell..all we can do is push those who would vote for anyone but someone who really could win (unfortunately the reality is theres no famous third party candidate now making a name for themselves to beat a dem) to vote for someone that could win (a dem). a non vote for a vote that is not for the apparent winner is a vote for drumpf.

What would you suggest then, Sherri? As I have said before, since Watergate, I am not a true believer in the election process and only vote reluctantly. Look at the last couple of elections where both Gore and Hillary Clinton won the popular vote but lost in the Electoral College. (You can clearly see how disturbed Gore was afterwards. His weight ballooned dramatically.) The process, frankly, does not work. But I will vote anyway. In the small chance that maybe we can still do something.

And I just left two markets where the avocados were very, very slim pickings. And I am just wondering if that reflects what Trump is threatening to do about the Mexican tariffs.

The Democrats are sadly stymied.

I'm waiting for Jerry Nadler to produce irrefutable evidence of obstruction and criminality in general, to move the ship forward, so much so, that if the Republican Senate continues to ignore it, they do so at their political peril.

As I see it, there is no other way.

I agree wholeheartedly with SAK.
So many times I have heard about what happens in other countries and thought that could never happen here. Well, it has. It saddens me and scares me.

Because they are selfishly concerned about their own interests (read: Their own reelections).

And to think I used to be so worried about Bush, Jr. "Mission accomplished!" Indeed.

It doesnt bother me so much that they DID. wht annoys the s**t out of me is that even after seeing him commit obstruction, treason, lie, cheat etc that they still DO. i'm not sure how much i care that impeachment will divide the country. think i'm more concerned that we'll end up with pence. can we just turn over the senate, vote out the stupidity he's put in and just not elect him again (him = both drumpf and mcconnell)

What really bothers me the most is that the Republicans shamelessly foisted this on the American people.

Sigh. Wouldn't it be nice to have a president who doesn't act like a petulant child all the time?

Ellen Weintraub, the chairwoman of the Federal Election Commission, took on Trump, when he said he saw no reason to not accept "oppo" research from foreign governments:

Her wry comment on Twitter said it all: She did not think it was necessary to even explain this.

Now, how long before our "esteemed" president calls her a name? Shall we start a pool? I'm betting before 6 AM today.
