Except for one thing, SAK: The public is more concerned about the economy and healthcare than any wrongdoing on the part of the president. Sad if that is true.

I read that calling for impeachment right before the election means all the misbehaviours will be out in public for all to see but mcconnell wont have time to stonewall it and while the folks wont be around to vote (tho maybe dems will rush back), it'll (the crimes and misdemeanors) be publicized. i dunno if that really would work or help. interesting idea tho.
man i hope mcconnell is voted out also

My major concern with a non-Trump win, echoing my very same concern when Nixon was in a similar position, back in 1974 (who says history does not repeat?), is how Trump will react to a resounding defeat. Rally the troops? Declare martial law? Barricade himself in the White House?

I shudder to think of the possibilities. And to think how I used to marvel that, for the most part, unlike many, many countries, we peaceably change governments with each election.

Pelosi is 100% correct: Impeaching Trump is futile with a divided Congress. To remove Trump from office, once the Articles of Impeachment are strong enough to move forward, say, on obstruction charges, the Senate needs 67 votes to get rid of him. No way are they inclined to do so, with so many worried about their own gravy train (read: Reelection).

The only hope is to clobber them in the 2020 elections. Trump wants the impeachment movement to move forward, because that would guarantee him a win at the 2020 polls, and "exoneration" imediately prior by the Republican-dominated Senate. Pelosi refuses to take his bait. And rightly so. The new Dems are just trying to make a name for themselves with their rash gestures and overtures. This way they can tell their constitutents that they, at least, "tried".

That's the way I see it. Now tell me that I'm wrong.

Resoundingly? Sadly, scaringly, ashamedly, not happening. Too many white men who want to keep women and minoritys in their place. Too many (kept dumb) women who agree. And unexplainably too many non white men (people who are not white and not men) who can't see just how harmful he is to them and this who country. And that scares the s**t out of me. How did we miss a good education for so many? (Back to the question of not teaching the right stuff in schools-how and why taxes and laws work. Economics. Etc. And how did people like me figure much out and so many don't. And why do so many, not just millennials, care only for themselves. I could Go on but won't)

I understand the Pelosi position. Trumpists will howl tricky lawyering, partisanship, coup, or worse if he is impeached no matter the rational basis. We'll be more, not less, divided. This benefits on one, other than (ugh - worse than Trump) President Pence.

If he is resoundingly defeated at the polls in 2020, well, the court of public opinion will have spoken conclusively and the legal chips then may fall where they may. Sadly, his shrewd advisors seem to have erected an effective barrier against congressional removal from office (no convction in the Senate seems at hand).

Vote, people. Early and often. Vote.

As long as he doesn’t get reelected… I also think that holding off means that if a Democrat is elected he can’t get pardoned Or won’t get pardoned. This whole administration makes me ill. I hope New York is still working hard on their case

Richard and I were talking about this at dinner. Can't indict a sitting president. COULD indict him once he's out of office, provided he isn't impeached - if he's impeached and the Senate votes to not do anything (which is what would be expected, given that they're a Republican majority and mostly following Turtle McConnell), then he cannot be indicted following an impeachment, however it turns out - because he would essentially be tried for the same crimes twice, which is double jeopardy.

I'm wondering if this is part of why Nancy Pelosi is saying not to impeach - if she's thinking he should just be tried in a federal court for crimes against the nation once he's out of office.

Ha!

Kinda reminds me of awhile back, when Russians invaded Georgia (their Georgia, not ours), but the folks in Alabama supposedly had a surge in ammunition sales... because they weren't gonna let the Russians invade their state??

I'm not sure that's back far enough. The red team controlled the house and stonewalled anything Obama wanted to do. We need to go back farther, maybe Clinton?

LOL! That's pretty funny!

You might not know, but there's a Japanese or Chinese dish (not usually in restaurants) called "The Mother and Child Reunion" - yes, same as the Paul Simon song. It's basically scrambled eggs with chicken, scallions, maybe mushrooms.

Yeah, it makes you stop and think when eating it.

And you thought of "egg." Not anymore, thanks to red-team politics run amok. If life begins at conception or a first heartbeat, being a chicken begins earlier than we might have thought?
