Because the idea simply was to loot the United States for all it was worth, and to ensure that their big business interests were met. Trump was merely the vehicle to effectuate this. And all he had to say to his "base" was "I care about you" and "Let's make America great again." Once in, he could not care less about his "base". They were merely a means to an end.

And even now, after two years, they still don't see that. They were so used. They were merely the margin needed to pull this presidency across the finish line. Truly sad.

I think we all agree impeachment at this point would be bad. but i hope the house can keep him in check. or that the senate red side wakes up. and develops either a bigger love of country than this job or a conscience that says oops, fix some stuff. it will only take a dozen or so to do this. why cant we find a decent dozen good folk on that side? makes me sad/angry/etc

Impeachment, sadly, would create a serious cascade of problems even greater than simply getting rid of Trump, in my opinion.

went to Toronto to visit relatives and everyone up there said they didn't want him impeached -- as they wanted Republicans to say how awful a president he was once his term was done.

They also want to go after his taxes. And they will not need his consent.

I believe they have noted that their first priority is to grant federal workers a raise.

Num - I agree there are a lot of important things that have to be worked on. For me Healthcare is a #1 priority. This country's healthcare is a disagree.

Not gonna happen. If he dares invoke executive privilege to declare a "state of emergency", it first passes to the courts to test it.

The Dems at this time have no interest in impeaching him, and, not that it matters, I agree with them.

The first thing that has to happen, is Mueller finishes his report. Then Elijah Cummings will see what the actual offenses are and take action accordingly.

The Democrats have a much larger agenda besides Trump. And now that they are in control of the House, those items will take precedence for now.

With Trump saying he's prepared to invoke his powers of emergency at the end of three weeks to go ahead with wall-building, won't it be fun to see who he has given the contract(s) to?

I remember hearing a story -- that during the depression a local St. Paul grocery store was paid for food by a customer with 3M stock. can you imagine, if true, the value of that stock once the depresson was over? that would not happen today

I think the Dems won the opening battle. And while Trump will continue his bravado and bluster, he has very little force behind any action he might take. He'll huff and puff and blow himself out.

And now we have (or better put, the 800,000 furloughed government folks) a three-week reprieve. What exactly will that do? Did the Dems win the battle just to lose the war?

What now?

I dunno, but if I were a government worker, it might be time to consider employment elsewhere. Though "elsewhere" is no guarantee either.

phebess, to be honest, most of the country agrees with them. i worked for the gov't for 40 years. sure there were a few slough offs - arent there everywhere, but people think govt workers are over paid, have nothing to do and so forth. then they are told stories like the $1,000 coffee maker. and NOT told that it was going in to space so had to be able to make/keep/dispense coffee in no gravity and at any angle. if you dont know that, you think the govt is crazy. grrr. most that i found are good hard workers. ah well

These rich politicians are all acting like the government employees are little peasants and serfs, living in tiny villages where everyone knows everyone and people barter for goods rather than use money. They have absolutely no idea!

SAK05261,

I also thought is was hysterical when he said, Iím sure the grocery store will just give them what they want without paying at the time of purchase. Did you see how many chain grocery stores said, no problem. Not one that I am aware of. Maybe the gas stations will do the same.

drumpf thinks local grocery stores know everyone and will just let them take stuff home and pay later. really? in dc area (sadly) there are very few local stores where they know you sigh.

I heard that the TSA is thinking of totoally stopping work right before the super bowl -- that way no one can get there and see the game. can you imagine the anger of all those wanting to go to the super bowl?

Yes they are clueless. You mean you have a job and live paycheck to paycheck, how can that be? There has to be a way to have people in government who live more like many Americans. Not necessarily paycheck to paycheck but less than 700 million.

Aaaaah, but in some cases the loans are "interest-free".

Meanwhile, two more proposals and two more turn downs.

And the air travel union leaders worry about "unprecedented" risks if the shutdown continues. Can you imagine?

Ross has always been obtuse and egocentric. His wife is equally repugnant. The best I can say for them is that they are consistent: Sometimes no surprise is best.

In the article he also suggested they take out a loan. How absurd.

No one in that administration has any empathy.

Eric's wife said - I'm paraphrasing a bit - but the workers should suck it up because in the long run it will be good for the country.

I can't stand these people.

Trump's Commerce Secretary (personal worth: $700 MM) cannot understand why furloughed government workers need to use a food bank. Anyone want to sit him down and explain reality to him? Reminds me of when Bush Sr. went to a supermarket and was fascinated by the barcode scanners.

They really do live in another universe, and it is not parallel to ours.
