That is unfortunate, Sunny. Here in NY my aunt's spiritual needs were always looked after. The synagogue would send over one of the rabbinical interns to read her the Purim megillah, for example. She made sure other people in the building who had similar issues were informed, and they would hear it together in her apartment.

As it should be.

Maybe you can call your synagogue and see if they could send someone over from time to time. Sometimes, perhaps, they just need to be more aware. Can't hurt to inquire.

This is the best I can do, I pulled the picture off of Google Maps. There used to just be a picture of the temple on the web page, now it focuses on people and events. I honestly feel completely disconnected from my congregation as I now no longer attend services due to health issues, and the Rabbi I presume will not be visiting me on Sundays this year as he has Bet Sefer students this year. I know he is there this weekend, but I haven't honestly had time to look at my email yet to see if he emailed me. Very busy day. It's Temple Beth Israel, Redding, CA. As soon as someone is ill and unable to attend they are forgotten about by the majority--as if I never made any contribution of my time as a volunteer editor of the newsletter. No one calls me or checks on me. I have to initiate contact.

We saw a lot of synagogues and a few cathedrals that had been turned into Mosques when we were in Jordan. Some of them they barely made any changes - just painted a crescent sloppily over a Star of David! The tour guide said hundreds of synagogues had been turned into mosques in the early days of King ....oh great, can't think of his name... King Abdullah II's father. King Hussein. That's his name. Or maybe it was King Hussein's father's time when all this happened? So sad.

She girds herself with strength, And strengthens her arms.

That is sad, Eco. Though I have seen it in reverse in Philly where a church became a synagogue. Though I think that is rare.

I went to Hebrew School at Kehillath Jacob. It's where my family went to services. The Jewish community left this Boston neighborhood of Mattapan in the 1960's. The building is now the State Temple Church of God in Christ.

Two in town. One had a community service today at 7 pm but I didn’t read the newspaper until 8 pm, after I got home from appointments. That one will host their annual Deli Day’s fundraiser dinner Sunday 11th... brisket or corn beef?? choices...

...or one that has special meaning to you.

We stand united.

Since I am working with the iPad, I cannot post an actual picture, but will provide the link. Orthodox shul. Was bat mitzvahed here in the mid-'60s. Who knew we were so far ahead of the times?
