You are, indeed, correct. I just went to that thread. I just have so many spinning plates right now, I forgot. But listening to the Verdi performed within those same walls was very moving.

Schacter, the concentration camp conductor, survived three concentration camps, including Auschwitz, only to die on a death march one month before the liberation. He was 29 years old (at the time of the start of the documentary).

But I thought I was commenting in a different thread...

Yep....

It was under the topic "The Resilience And Ingenuity Of The Human Spirit", further down in the General Team Discussion Forum, which YOUUUUU originally posted the story about the Concentration Camp Choir.

The only thing I did was bumble around on the Internet looking for more info on the choir and discovering that they had their own foundation and movie and ongoing performances, the "Defiant Requiem". Which reminds me, while I am here at my mom's recuperating, I need to pry the computer open and fire up the movie inside Amazon Prime. I am sure it will be awesome to listen to. Probably make me bawl a lot...

First, thank you, Julia, for bringing this work to our attention. I just finished watching it,

It is amazing to me what the human spirit can endure and with a little encouragement even cause it to soar. Verdi's "Requiem" was taught to over 100 inmates at Theresienstadt, wherein they learned this most difficult piece, even under the best of circumstances, by rote. They practiced it after a long and arduous day working for the Nazis. It was performed 16 times in the concentration camp, and the last time, it served as a showcase for visiting German dignitaries, as well as the International Red Cross. It allowed the Jews, by means of this work, to tell the Nazis that one day they would be judged. Very powerful documentary. See it. I took it out of the local library.
