I gained 5 pounds in the three days that I was on Paxil. I had headaches, which are the norm for me, but was afraid to take my medication for headaches until I checked with the pharmacist about any interactions. I ate constantly. If I was eating I wasn't going to bite my tongue I thought until I did. I went into the clinic it was prescribed in and the doctor was livid, the prescription orders he had left were for someone else. BUT I have one more thing I can add to vaccine for tetanus (which I kind of doubt to be honest) and there are a lot of drugs similar to paxil. I had one doctor tell me there was an ingredient commonly used as a filler in a lot of medications that he suspected I was allergic to. I should have demanded to know it at the time but there were three doctors in the room and I wasn't sure who had said that. A LOT of antidepressants make you eat incessantly. I'm thinking depakote...generic version, does because that's what they put me on yesterday. And that's what I'm doing!

I was on paxil after having my first child. I credit it with totally saving my marriage. I did gain weight, but I think it was more because I was all YAY I'M SOOO HAPPY and I just did what I wanted and didn't think about what I was eating or how I looked.

I'm on Lexapro now and I could be lax about my eating - ok I have been - but without it I'd be a monster so... lol. Just have to be conscious of my health.

NO FAILURES - SMALL SUCCESS!

I was prescriobed Paxil in the 90's. I had the reaction of trying to bite my tongue off from it. I only took it for a few days and wasn't paying attention to my weight at the doctor's requaest but the tongue biting was intense and scared me very badly. I have never heard of it being used as a diet drug.

Sorry....I'm just now reading your post. I don't mean that I want to take it TO lose weight. But one of the side effects of the drug is that it causes weight gain (+25lbs for me!), so I was wondering if anyone had this problem and if they were able to lost the weight without switching.

Sorry....I should have been clearer....

MY opinion on this is that any diet assisted with drugs are FAD.... i think that when you think you are done with the meds you have to work extra hard to still keep it off, any one fallback will have you 20lbs heavier than when you started, but thats from my experience.

I just saw your post. I have never taken Paxil, but I am on lexapro and thyroid medicine. I have been told that I won't be able to lose weight on them. But, with Spark, I can. I think it's the exercise that puts me over the top. I definitely don't seem to lose as much as other folks doing the exact same thing, but I am losing. Don't give up!
