My workouts consist of M-W-Sat 60 minutes strength training usually with a Jari Loved Ripped DVD and then a 5 mile easy run on Tues, either a 6 mile speed run or a tempo run on Thurs. and then a long run usually in double digits on Sun. Friday is my day off.

The strength training has really improved my form and endurance for running, not to mention some really sculpted shoulders. Can't wait to have more than a 2 pack of abs!

2 Days to go until the beginning of our Spark Anniversary week!!! I'm almost giddy with excitement...but, then I can be a little odd at times. Shhhhh, don't let everyone know that about me since I don't want to scare anyone off. :-)

The #2 reminds me of 2 main types of exercise: cardio and strength. Through the first 8 months or so of my Spark life, I primarily focused on cardio exercises. Oh, I threw in the occasional strength exercise and even do a couple small ones very regularly (like the almost daily standing abductions while brushing my teeth).

In more recent months, I am concentrating on incorporating more strength training on a consistent basis. I bought the SP Fitness Starter Kit (contains exercise ball, band, pedometer) because I did not have any of these tools. My good hubby bought me a set of dumbbells (3, 5 & 8 lbs.). I am much better now at using these items regularly. I really enjoy the ball & especially those exercises that use the ball in combination with weights.

So for my Year #2 that is about to start on SP, I vow to continue to focus on both these areas: Strength training while also keeping up with the cardio sessions. What specifically do I do?
-- I try to change it up periodically, but at the center of my program is always a Wii Fit workout (I LOVE it and truly credit it with getting me off the couch last year)
-- I add in other cardio in forms of elliptical, treadmill or outdoors walking.
-- We have a large yard so in good weather I am doing more & more yardwork and gardening instead of leaving that to my hubby as I did in the past.
-- For strength I use SP videos and demos to select from and try to get a variety for whole body workout.
-- I did the New You Bootcamp in Jan. & will periodically redo exercise videos from that session.

Whatever the right mix is for you, I hope that you also will have a balanced exercise program now and throughout your future. If you have a routine that you want to share with the team, please do never know when you might inspire and motivate someone. If you need ideas on a good exercise program, check out the tools that SP provides to help you. Maybe start doing their Exercise of the Day to give you a variety, or do one of the SP Bootcamps.
