I know u posted this a while ago, but I just want to tell you don't give up. Forget the pounds, forget the weight...listen, it's all about our lifestyles. Honestly I feel like nothing is happening with my weightloss but I just think about the icecream which I didn't have, or the seconds I didn't eat and stuff like that. Also spark is great for motivation, we are all friends doing the same thing.

I wish u the best of luck!!!!

One of the things that I have realized about my life since starting with Spark is the now I NOTICE what I am or am not doing in terms of a healthy lifestyle (and I tend to beat myself up for all the wrong choices - I'm working on that). Someone commented about adding up all the little choices and that really is the key. So much better to celebrate the ten things you did right today, then dwell on the couple of things that still need improving. So hang in there!

Helen your learning. Just have to keep yourself motivated. There is great resources on spark people, through emails and articles. Even can do search's on questions.

I learned something just this week. I was stuck as it seemed. But I pushed my cardio up a little and added a couple of more strength exercise's. I did this two days in a row. Ate on the higher side of my calorie's. Stayed within the limits and I lost 1 pound. May not seem a big deal. But I lost not gained. Every pound counts!

I'm struggling myself! I've only lost 3 pounds since I started at the beginning of April - it's hard but I refuse to give up!

One thing I've learned is about sodium and other minerals. If you look at the full report each day on your tracker it tells you how much calcium, sodium, magnesium, etc you've had in your diet. I discovered I had far too much sodium and not nearly enough potassium - pretty short on calcium and magnesium too. I did some research and have started adding foods rich in those minerals. Although my weight is dropping v e r y s l o w l y - I feel better than I have in a long time.

Perseverance! I can and I will!

Great! If you go on the low end of your calories, whatever you do don't go under your recomended amount from spark. You will put yourself into a burnout. Your body needs those calories to function. Your on the right track. Keep it up!

Thanks for all of your responses and the support. I feel much better about myself today after receiving your support and reassessing things. I especially liked the advice from MRSWIGGLY6. I really liked the idea of staying at the lower end of calories on days I don't exercise and the higher end on days I do. In addition to doing that I have increased my water to 16 cups a day (1 gallon). That is actually half my body weight. Hopefully, I'll see some better results in the next few weeks.

You've got to say, I think that if I keep working at this and want it badly enough I can have it. It's called perseverance.

Hang in there Joan. Remember baby steps. You can't change your lifestyle all at once or overnight. That fact that you have changed some things is a step in the right direction. Don't stress over what you haven't done but be proud of what you have done. Every day is a new day to do something better. Keep up the good work and post for support whenever needed.

May your troubles be less, your blessings more, and nothing but happiness come through your door!

Never forget, what goes around, comes around.

Joan,

I would like to add some things to you that I have learned since joining spark people. This should be considered a lifestyle change. It will not take over night to change that lifestyle. Your eating habits, attitude, etc.

Start out small not full force. Gradually add things into your lifestyle a little at a time. First off water is a main ingredient in weight loss. Think of your body as a sponge, because our bodies are made out of mostly of water. If you fill that sponge up what will happen to all that water? The answer is OUT! Along with all that fluid going out your washing all the toxins, etc out with it. If you don't fill that sponge up then your body keeps it because it has to have it to survive. Then all the those things that your body doesn't really need sits on your hips, thigh, stomach. I think you get the picture. We should be drinking half our body weight in water in order to do that. You doing 12 is GREAT!

But here comes the fiber, sodium, fats, carbs and protein. Sodium makes you retain water. I know that the sodium isn't counted on your tracker but you can add it. You should be having at least 1000 grams to 2400 grams a day no more. Frozen dinners, processed meats, can food, sauce's, etc. Has high counts of sodium. When I first began I ate frozen stuffed peppers for lunch. I learned the sodium count was so high, I might as well have ate salt. As for a fiber goes we need to get ride of fats taken in. Fiber digest faster. But if you don't give yourself enough water to get rid of the fiber then you might find yourself miserable.

I am having problems getting enough protein right now. But I am adding more into my lifestyle to change that.

On days you do cardio go to the higher end of your calories and drink more water. ( More calories you burn the more water you need for your body.) The days you rest go to the lower end of your calories, but never under.

Try this, for a few days or even better a week. If your used to drinking 12 glass of water then this is ok. But eat at least one whole grain in. Like the fiber one bar, they are very good. At least one serving of fruit. At least one serving of veggies. Cardio 3 times a week and strength. At least for 25 Min's or more. Once you get used to it, then up your goals. Blog your goals, so later you can take a look back of what triggers you so that you can
watch out for.

We are all here for you and each other.

I've been trying to lose weight forever. But I've really been trying hard since Jan. when I weighed 258lbs. I only weight 245.5 now. I've only lost 4lbs since starting Spark.
Usually when you first start a new life style change you lose alot of water so it's not uncommon to not lose anything the next bit while your body adjusts to what you are doing.
Patience with a "P" is needed. Use Spark to log everything that you eat and any kind of exercise you do. I read every article they send me thru email. That's the only thing that has kept me going this time. The support on the website is something I have never seen anywhere else. I left Weight Watchers website for this one.
Don't beat yourself up, pick your self up, brush it off tomorrow is a new and different day. You've already made the change of not snacking after dinner. Awesome. You've been drinking you water(Mother's day was only 2days ago).
How many times have you heard this, "You didnt gain weight overnight so it won't come off overnight." I myself have heard too many times but it's true.

Hey..... I feel your pain! I lost 4 lbs the first week and nothing the next three. That's with doing everything right. Others say I may have hit a plateau, but after FOUR pounds!?!
There are lots of recipes to choose from that can satisfy all of your family. I cook for my family and they don't even know they're eating good stuff too. I keep frozen fish in the freezer in case I make something for them that I can't have.
After dnner I get on the computer and drink water all night. I haven't craved snacks and am too busy to think about it.
As far as keeping within limits, I pick my protein first, check calories, then add veggies, fruit and carbs.
If you need a snack, get some Fiber One bars. They'll satisfy your sweet tooth and give you fiber. Cals are low, too.
I know how frustrating it is. Today I just happen to be ok. So, don't beat yourself up over this. You'll do fine.

Hey fellow sparksters! I'm having a really tough time with the whole lifestyle change. It seems when I started out with the change I was all gung-ho for it....that was until I didn't see any change for 3 WEEKS after my first 5 pounds. It's so hard to not eat what I used to, especially when I get stressed or go without eating for long periods of time.

I feel like I'm failing at this. Up until Mother's Day I was drinking at least 12 cups of water everyday and exercising when I felt like it. I have a 15 minute DVD, I got from a McDonald's Healthy meal one time, that I do when I get the chance or energy. I've also found that I go over on my calories, fats and carbs a little bit...as well as not getting enough protein.

I'm frustrated with myself because I know I can do better than this. I need to go to bed earlier and wake up earlier. One thing that has changed for me has been that I don't snack after dinner as much. I find it difficult when it comes time to think about making dinner for my family because I have trouble trying to fix something that's going to taste good to my husband and little girls yet be healthy and not full of fats, carbs, and sodium.

I don't mean to be so negative. I just need some support. Please don't be too harsh with me. I really want to lose the weight and become healthier.

By the way, I've seen how some of the rest of us are doing and I'm proud of you...WAY TO GO!!!

You've got to say, I think that if I keep working at this and want it badly enough I can have it. It's called perseverance.
