If you do not eat at least 1200 net calories a day, your metabolism will shut down. I ran into that problem and once I stated eating more, the weight came off.

Well it depends on how much below the min you are on fats & protein.

You can increase your healthy fats by eating fish, avocados, natural peanut butter or other nut butters (my favorite is almond hazelnut -yum), unsalted nuts, cooking with olive oil.... don't be afraid to eat food with fat in it, as long as it's the healthy kind like the omegas and unsaturated fats you'll be fine. Watch for foods that have trans fats and saturated fats -these are bad for you.

To increase protein, choose lean cuts of protein like beef/pork tenderloin, chicken breasts... other forms of protein are unsalted nuts, soybeans/edamame, egg whites, egg substitutes, cottage cheese, fat free milk, legumes/beans, and whey protein shakes. Also try the grain quinoa, it is high in protein, there are also some breads out there that are high in protein as well -i like the silver hills brand.

i do good about hitting the calories but i am having definate trouble getting even to the baseline on fats and protein...any advice or is less than baseline ok???

Tonya, I agree, having a more substantial breakfast would really help. Cream of wheat is good, you can also try regular oatmeal with fruits -or even the new "weight control" quaker oats which aren't that bad for you since they are high in fibre. You can also try and egg-white omelett/ breakfast burrito with lots of veggies.

Going under you cal range will not help with weight loss, especially if you work out. If you lose weight being under cals, you will gain it back and more once you start eating regularly again!

I also have the same problem. I usually end up using 950 of the 1200 calories I am supposed to have, but I feel like I have had enough at the end of the day. Like for Example, I have 3/4 cup Multi-Grain cheerios with 1/2 cup milk and a banana for breakfast. A Turkey and cheese sandwich and a 100 calorie pack for lunch. For dinner I have a salad with dressing on side and 1/2 cup milk. I have at least 8 waters a day and not hungry/not bloated.

oh i love cream of wheat! Its so good. I might have to try this. My plan was only to stay on slim fast for 1 week to get my metabolism going i might have to rethink that and just keep the slimfast around for a back up meal.

My advice would be to eat more at breakfast and skip the slimfast shake. My interpretation of the Spark People heath plans are to learn healthy eating habits and maintain them. I think it will be difficult to drink slimfast for the rest of your life. And, since you need more calories anyway, why not try the cream of wheat, half banana, raisins, or one of the other suggested items on the meal plan instead.

Believe it or not, I just had cream of wheat for the first time in my life this morning. It was really yummy! I was shocked at all the good nutrients in it. I had to ask myself why I never knew about it before!!

I have eaten my lunch for today and about to have a snack. After I eat my snack I will only have consumed 560 calories! That can't be good right?

Breakfast: Slim fast 140 cal
Glass of sweet tea 80 cal
Lunch: Soup 200 cal
Snack: protein bar 140 cal

so thats 560 and all I have left to eat is a snack or 2 and dinner.

I guess I am stuck and need some advise on this. This is only my first day. I am going to do 30 minutes of cardio today also.

Any tips? Advise? Anything would be helpful :) thanks!!
