According to research yo-yoing is worse for your health than just being fat, it puts a strain on the heart. I quit! No more bad health! I'm way too old to keep playing around! emoticon

How come I'm the only one who uses this posting place? Here's todays memo....I FELL OFF THE WAGON HARD! I gained back nearly all the weight I worked so hard to lose. BAH So, I am doing it all over again, behaving and doing all the good things cutting all the bad. My son is working with me on all this which helps. At least I kept my workout habit so I will be on track in nothing flat. Happy New Year everyone!

I have to vent so here it goes. I was on a weight machine at the gym and paused before doing my next set and this wart of a human took the pin out of my weight stack. I didn't see him do it so almost knocked myself out with the rower bar! I, passive aggressively slammed my weight down and got up to get another pin. GGGGGRRRRRRRRRR!

Kyrrdis, I am going to follow in your foot steps. I finally broke my plateau however I went up a lb instead of down. I have been working extra shifts and haven't been getting as much gym time so I will hit it hard sat. and sunday and after the first week in Oct be back to my "normal" schedule and work much less overtime. Good Job!!!

It looks like, after months of long plateaus, that my weight is finally going down again. Yippee!

I'm attributing it to ramping my strength training back up and cutting my caloric intake to under 1600 calories.

This has been a good week. 1st I took a day of vacation time from work so have off monday-friday. Then at my weigh in I was down 3 lbs instead of my usual .8 or there abouts. And I think that finally my body has discovered it's metabolism and therefore lost more weight. I have been doing alternating weeks of 1200 or 1500 calorie dieting. By Jove I've got it!

Well, so much for the cool weather, it snapped up here in Chicago, HOT AND HUMID. I have just re-evaluated my exercise minutes and decided that I am going for goal of 10,000 this year. Last year I had a goal of about 6500, exceeded that at about 7500, and already this year I have over 5000 so... made sense to me.

Can't really see myself giving up but I know what you mean. What's with May? I too felt all wonkie. I know this month will be perfect. I love June, the weather is usually perfect, loads to do outside and just the thrill of summer. This year I asked my boss to give me days off randomly, one a week 4 times, just to enjoy life in the city a bit. LOL, my son commented last weekend, that it felt like summer camp. We were heading out to a local lake with kayaks on the car.

With Memorial weekend ahead, I am trying to meet my goal of losing 12 lb. Thought I would make it but tonight I am going out to a club that has such great food....I think I am repenting beforehand! Anyway, I have in mind that I am not going to blow my intake out totally, trying to be of strong conviction here.

No, not slim shots.
There are several brands out there now...
I got the 5Hour Energy dietary supplement.
It has 4 cal, 40mg of B6, 400 mcg of folic acid, 500 mcg of B12.
It tastes good.
I like it!

Are talking about slim shots? If so, no cause they have a high cholesterol oil compound in them....I don't remember which oil off the top of my head, but I read an blurb in a fitness mag. that said it wasn't good for you.

Happy Monday ya'll. I read a blog from someone early this a.m., night shift you get opportunity like that. Anyway, she was having a Biggest Loser week. Charting a course and sticking too it like you'd win $250,000. So I decided to do it and thought I'd put it out there for you too. Plan meals, plan exercise and don't deviate, how hard can it be? OK, I know.... emoticon

Well, I received my first (painful) exercises from my new physical therapist. I'm sure it counts as some sort of exercise, since my butt hurts!

Most of my joint pain has been reduced by the weight loss, but I still have some problem areas. I decided it needed further treatment... possibly to my regret.

The whole veggies and fruits also helps with nutrition and needed vitamins.

My daily intake of a banana, apple, and orange is a must and then all additional fruits and veggies is where I count my 5 serving requirement.

It helps to fill up and keep out the "bad" foods...unless it's tom...I just od on chocolate. My weakness.

I'm not a big juicer fan. Too much hassle and cleaning.
I opt at eating the veg and fruits instead.
I go to the farm market and the grocery stores to get the variety of vegs and fruits.
I can't complain about the options.

I visited my sister who winters in Hawaii this year and lived healthfully. She bought a Lalani (sp)juicer, they are $80 at Costco and we had a great time making fresh juice with spinach, carrots and many fruits from the island. I wish northern climes could get that fresh stuff. Pineapple especially!

Wow, That is amazing. I try to keep my protein high too and the beautician noticed my hair grows faster and is really alot more healthy. Also my finger nails are stronger. I hope this November my cholesterol will be around 190, last nov. it edged to 224. Spring is coming and I eat way better when fresh foods start coming out of the garden and I just feel warmer through and through. Seasons really impact me.

Hi, everyone!

I eat either 4 or 5 egg whites only or a 3 egg white only omelete woith spinach, tomatoe, 0.25 cup of shreaded cheddar cheese.
And my calorie, fat, cholesterol, and protein intake is excellent due to this habit change.
I lowered mt cholestrol from 245 to 190 in a year before I started exercising.
And my LDL has decreased to a better level.
I don't eat any of the yolk at all - never.

feel free to check out my nutritional page
(except for last friday, I have been trying to keep my intake of protein high and card low)

Have a great weekend!

UUUUMMMMMMMMMMMM, love egg drop soup. I like eggs but limit the intake. We will see how it pans out in November when I hope to have lowered my cholesterol a bit. I have good HDL's and LDL is nice and low, just the total is a tad high. RATS. Exercise definitly made mine better, be thinking of you Kyrrdis!

I rarely eat eggs, but when I do I always go over my SP-recommended levels of cholesterol. Honestly, I don't particularly like them, except in egg drop soup, fried rice, and avgolemono!

I see the doc for a followup in about 10 days, so I'm going to have to get that blood drawn. I'm really hoping my HDL will be up from all this exercise.

I try to put my day off bread with an egg a day.
They are way more filling, and nutritious.
He had a check up last week and his cholesterol is 3.5. Apparently there is a chemical in the egg which binds the cholesterol. The really problem is saturated fat.

I recently tried Quick Eggs, its a cholesterol free, fat free, 30 calorie product which was really good. I used it with 1 real egg in an omlet. I think I picked it up at Trader Joes. I think Sunday, omlet morning, I will just use the Quick Eggs and see how it is. It's from a company call Papetti Foods.

I love it when a dr. notices, they are hard to impress. New studies suggest eggs aren't as bad as they once were thought to be. Hoping for your good results, that is what I'm aiming for in November.

I saw the doc for my first physical in several years. They were all impressed with my weight loss, which was great!

Later this week, I will need to have my blood drawn for the usual tests. I am hoping that my lipid panel will show an improvement, but I have already had eggs and shrimp this week (bad! bad!).

Yesterday, we tried out the first 2 videos on our new SparkPeople Cardio Blast DVD. They worked us pretty hard!

The DVD offers options where you can string combinations of 10-minute segments between the warmup and cooldown sequences. We selected the 'low-impact' option, which was the first two videos.

If you've done Day 1 of the Swimsuit or New You Bootcamp videos, these are more of the same... but no squat-thrusts (yippee!). The first video, which is a 'walking' video, is higher-impact than the Leslie Sansone DVDs, but doesn't do as much with the upper body. The second video, which is an 80's retro bit, was more fun but does involve a little more impact, too.

It is possible to do ALL six selections as one long session, but it'll be a while before I'll be in that sort of shape. I do like the way the DVD lets you customize, though.

We could start a weekly thread on that Charie, and take turns at new recommendations. I'd say we all have good habits that could help each other.

Well done on cementing the lifestyle change SDtally!!! emoticon

I feel your pain with the dial up, I was off spark for a couple of months for the same reason. It is a full time occupation waiting for a page to load, nevermind attempt to track.

Hi guys - a little off of the current topic, but I just had to post -- I got on the scale today & I'm 118.8 !!!!!!

I can't believe that I've lost 30 pounds & managed to keep it off for almost 4 months now. Sooooo cool....

I don't get to this site so much for the winter months. My husband and I come down to Arizona for the winter & the internet here sucks. Dial-up is all that is available & I get bored waiting for the page to come up.

What if we find something other than stuff we already track on this site. Like trying something new each week. A food item, a new exercise, something that makes us step outside our "normal".

I was thinking that if we track the number of calories burned that may help motivate us and receive motivation to burn more since 3500 calories burned is a pound of fat loss ....

I guess each of us have different calorie burn goal so then...
How about Daily Calories burned? and then a check box to say yes or no... emoticon

My apologies.

I have no problems with clicking on boxes in 'Other Goals'. Pretty much the only goal I prefer not to join are ones that require I drink 8 glasses of water. If it didn't happen in Florida in August, it's not going to happen in Kentucky in January!

Anyone is welcome to start a challenge. However, original discussion/request was to set some team goals on the team home page. These would then be tracked under your "other goals".

Instead of tracking it for SparkPoints, why not try offering a SparkGoodie? Create a thread for the challenge, and let people report in. Winners get Goodies they can display on their page.

I can put in a fitness goal for minutes. However, you would need to click, wait for a box to come up, then enter a number every day. Also you can already do this by making a SparkAmerica fitness minutes commitment (which will show at the right side of every page you click on SparkPeople) and calories burned will show in your nutrition tracker.

Is that what you all want, filling in a number in another place each day and duplicating what you're already doing on other places on SparkPeople? Or do you want a goal more unique to our team?

Energy and persistence conquer all things.

The easiest goals to set up and to actually track and have people participate are the kind where you check the box (you either did it that day or you didn't).

Any ideas?

How about Calorie tracking?
Meeting the calorie range?
Or how about total number of fat intake for the day?

I am thinking this may help us compare ourselves to everyone and by seeing that each of us need to aim towards a healthier life...

This is not to put anyone on the spot. By no means. But an eye opener.

Maybe we should have a 'simple' goal for January, like staying in our calorie range. Or, perhaps, we should make that the February goal, since so many people drop their diets after January.

Good to hear your "voice" on the thread. Don't think you are too far away from our winter retreat in Polk County, southeast of Lakeland, near Frostproof, Sebring, etc. At least the weather here is conducive for walking. Good Luck as you travel home!

I haven't been posting much recently, since Gwen and I are still in Florida. Gwen developed a tooth problem over New Year's, and she is in the middle of having a root canal done. As it turns out, you can't fly with a tooth abscess unless you're cleared by the dentist (changing pressures in the plane can lead to a blown eardrum).

So, we're still at my parents' house. I am exercising, but dieting is hard when you're in the clutches of the OGM (Overfeeding Greek Mother).

We hope to be back on track soon!

The colonoscopy is a good kick start to return to better eating habits!! I had one this week, not such bad prep, no pain before or after.

I didn't have any pain, just slept a lot with the drugs wearing off. They stay in your system for 24 hours! I slept really well too, it was heaven! I love sleep, it could be like the best hobby ever! My dad instilled in me how much time we waste sleeping and that if we could just make sleep a hobby, that we would do on occasion, all would be good. I would probably never get to sleep cause thats what happens with my hobbies as it is now.

Gwen took the Osmo-prep, too. She took them with twice as much water as recommended, and thought that this was why she didn't get sick from it.

She did hurt after the procedure, though, and had to take off from the exercise for several days. I guess the insides don't like to be bounced around after an invasive procedure.

I prepped with some pills call Osmo-prep, easy, you take 4 pills every 15 min. x's 5, poo for about 2 hours the evening before, then you take another batch of pill in the a.m and poo a little more. It's a very efficient system, gets the colon really clean. Slept really good that night and the whole process was decent. I love the drugs, fentanyl and versed, just make you not care whats going on. I watched the whole thing and was totally entertained. Hint, take the pills with ginger ale or sprite, they go down better.

Love the aphorisms.

My spouse had her first colonoscopy this year. I am not worried as much about the actual scoping (since I will be heavily drugged) as I am about the prep. They have some alternative methods of handling the prep now, but I have heard that they all make people like me (with evil slow colons) sick. Couldn't they just knock me out and use a vacuum cleaner?

Love some of your aphorisms.....too true!

OK, you guys I am a new convert, advocate for the colonoscopy. I put it off for 9 years and now I am glad I did it. I had 4 polyps, not all polyps turn to cancer however they can and now mine are gone.

emoticon

My brother had his colonoscopy on his 50th birday and proceeded to encourage all his co-worker to do the same. One guy ranted and raved that he was never going to waste his time, money and get a camera up his.... Anyway, my bro had polyps removed and the guy is dead now, colon cancer. True story!

"Aphorisms"

APHORISM: A SHORT, POINTED SENTENCE
EXPRESSING A WISE OR CLEVER OBSERVATION
OR A GENERAL TRUTH.

1. The nicest thing about the future is that it always
starts tomorrow.

2. Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will
make him wag his tail.

3. If you don't have a sense of humor, you probably
don't have any sense at all.

4. Seat belts are not as confining as wheelchairs.

5. A good time to keep your mouth shut is when
you're in deep water.

6. How come it takes so little time for a child who is
afraid of the dark to become a teenager who wants
to stay out all night?

7. Business conventions are important because they
demonstrate how many people a company can
operate without.

8. Why is it that at class reunions you feel younger
than everyone else looks?

9. Scratch a cat and you will have a permanent job.

10. No one has more driving ambition than the boy
who wants to buy a car.

11. There are no new sins; the old ones just get
more publicity.

12. There are worse things than getting a call for a
wrong number at 4 AM. It could be a right number.

13. No one ever says 'It's only a game.' when their
team is winning.

14. I've reached the age where the happy hour is a
nap.

15. Be careful reading the fine print. There's no way
you're going to like it.

16. The trouble with bucket seats is that not
everybody has the same size bucket.

17. Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have
thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos?
(And rap music will be the Golden Oldies!)

18. Money can't buy happiness -- but somehow it's
more comfortable to cry in a Corvette than in a Yugo.

19. After 50, IF you don't wake up aching in every
joint, you are probably dead!!

20. Always be yourself because the people that
matter don't mind, and the ones who mind, don't
matter!

Good! I just read an article where they sent two people to the dr. to check lung age. One was a light smoker and young age, lung age was 51! Shock, guess I won't even cheat anymore. And the pepsi, just read about cortisol (I have issues with belly fat) o.k, I'm cured! Fitness magazine this month had a load of great info. They always do that when my subscription is about to end and I am fed up with the same old, same old....they load my last issue with great stuff and I start thinkin I will re-order. Since I'm breaking habits, theres another one to bite the dust! emoticon

Thanks. Wish I were not afraid to sneak a smoke or a pepsi(straight/none of that diet stuff for me) but I fear backsliding. I think I am going to take the money I saved on cigarettes and invest in green tea(I drink about 4-6 bottles a day).

Good job! I quit cigarettes but sneek them once in a while. Mostly when out with friends who offer me one. I don't miss the diet pepsi as much but then sneek one of them when night shift hits...it stimulates without the coffee nausea. Don't we all have our excuses?

Geez, the workout was hard but we were really in the zone. I haven't been taking Ibuprophen and hurt a lot. (I'm off it for a colonoscopy, miss it.) So I came to the conclusion it isn't worth the blow out. I have to lose the weight cause my body can't support an extra 50 lbs. New resolve I guess. Have a really great saturday. Today I am shampooing my living room rug....sounds like a good calorie burn! emoticon

You can't really do Thanksgiving without a blow out. The bread pudding sound yummy, mine was tira misu. I ate reasonably sanely but we are hitting the gym in about an hour. I have to get back on track for sure. I ordered the ball and band system offered by the sparkstore and planning an a.m. living room ritual on days I have to work. I have to get serious about this.

Thanksgiving: I had a planned blowout with the dinner, compensated by a lot of cardio this week, including today. I ate by preference of what I wanted the most, and stopped when I was full (at less food than I USED to stop with - stomach shrunk on me, I think).
emoticon
The shocker: vanilla soft-serve has a LOT more calories than I thought it would! Maybe I should have left it off of the bread pudding... nah, I should have just stopped at one cup.

How did everyone else's dinner go?

I hope everyone out there had a good day, and if you pulled a gut-buster like me, there's always tomorrow to start burning the calories off!
