Wow! You all make me very glad I am here in Guam! Perhaps the dry season may have started for us. I hope so because I need the roof really dry so the cracks can be fixed.

We had beautiful blue skies, lots of sunshine with puffy clouds today.

I have been out and about so my Sparking is very limited.

Take care all.

Yep, the gloomy weather hit Ohio today but played cards and visited with neighbors all day ... sure did like that warmer weather though ... Spring will be here soon.

I started to write about the demonstrations but it upsets me so I will just talk about the weather. It is gloomy and rainy here but we are only supposed to have a blanket of snow Tuesday. Luckily it will be about 50* on Wednesday when I have to go to Columbus when I go to my specialist at Ohio State. Probably nothing new but I do have some questions. My son is taking me. It is about a 2 hour drive and lots of traffic. I used to do it but my reflexes have been cut down with my "condition" and it scares me. I hope nobody gets weather that is too bad. Mary, I am glad you made it home O.K. after church. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and have a good day tomorrow. Janice

My daughter took her three daughters age 20,17 & 13 to the capitol yesterday. She said they marched and they chanted and then she stopped them to be sure they understood what it was they were chanting about. Her 13 year old, in defense of her beloved teachers, actually said to her that "you make a lot of money Mom, and what do you do to make a difference". She explained to them the difference in what she pays for her benefits and what she gets in return such as higher copays etc. in exchange for the salary she gets, but did concede that she thought the teachers were much more important in the greater scheme of things. She said they politely listened to the speeches by the opposition, and there was no violence, but she said the tea party representatives called them who#$%s and other names that really had no place in peaceful rhetoric. I give her a lot of credit for giving her kids a chance to participate in making history and being sure that they understood what it was all about, not just getting into the fun of marching and chanting. She did say it was a sight that you could never imagine unless you were there, and that many of the signs people carried were truly creative.

That said, today we are having rain and sleet to be followed by snow and probability of very icy conditions so it may cut down the size of the crowd. I went back to church this morning to play in place of another organist who has the shingles on her face, and it was just starting to sprinkle when I went in, and by the time Mass actually started they said the parking lot was glare ice. The salt truck came during Mass and by the time we got out the parking lot was mostly slush and our cars were covered with slushy ice and it was raining pretty hard.

Hope you guys all have a good day. Keep your eyes on Wisconsin. My dd said that she doesnt' see either side giving in very soon so this may go on for a while.

Good morning - Mary, saw the demonstrations on the news and so glad that they are peaceful and hope they stay that way. They are suppose be doing that here in Texas this week also.
Maybe if the Governors and state senators would start by cutting their salaries and those of our senators and all the frivolous spending they do we would be okay.

Wishing all a good day and be blessed.

The rallies have been on radio national news so have heard some of it out here. At least we are showing the world how a peaceful demonstration can occur.

I hope everyone is enjoying this lovely Saturday. It is a little cooler than the last two days but I wouldn't complain. We have lovely sunshine.

It seems that thee is some sort of attack on public employees everywhere. Our governor called a police officer an "Idiot" while getting a ticker for not pulling over for an emergency vehicle. Nice example!!!

We also have people going to the State House to complain about the powers that be trying to take hard won rights away from the public employees. Where will it all end? I guess that is something I will have to pray about tomorrow.

Have a great day! Janice

Hello to all - Sharon, glad that you were able to spend some time with your GD. Now get some rest!

Not doing much today just going to Mass this evening and then back home for dinner.
Temps here are in the 80's - can you believe that. I am sure we will get some more cold weather as we still have March to deal with. Really looking forward to Spring, ladies.

Have a blessed evening and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Our teachers have not called in sick to go to the rally, but school was called off on Thursday because of dense fog until about noon. One of the women who sing with me at church is married to our band director, and they took their two boys to the capitol that day for much the same reason my daughter is going, to see democracy at work. She said that the peacefulness of the demonstration in light of the number of people was absolutely awesome and she felt it was a great learning experience for her kids. I just hope that it stays peaceful. Today the opposition is supposed to be organizing a counter-demonstration and I hope that doesn't cause rowdy conflict.

I too, worked at UW Hospital for many years, and was priveleged to know personally many state employees and the perception that they are lazy etc. is so wrong and while I agree that we all have to share the sacrifice, taking away the right to collective barganing does nothing to balance the budget. The two big unions have expressed their willingness to concede to the other provisions, so at this point I have to doubt the validity of the Governor's intentions with this bill. I also read in the paper about the other provisions that are buried in it that basically give the governor more and more power to change the way medicaid works, to appoint people to jobs without any opposition etc etc etc. It begins to smell of a power grab.
Frankly, I can't see the gov cleaning up after monkeys, or sick people or a lot of things that the employees of the state do.

So much for my political views, and I respect anyone's right to disagree with me. That's the democratic way. I am just glad that I am retired.

Mary, my daughter lives in Stoughton and works for the university. She said traffic is just awful and no parking anywhere. She works in the primate lab and said if Walker wants her job he can clean up the monkey poop and live in her house and sheíll live in the Governorís mansion. At least so far there are no unruly demonstrations that cause property damage and injuries.
I too love to read. I use to go to library and check out 12 books at a time. Then my Parkinson tremors got so bad I started getting the audio books as itís a bit hard to read a moving book. Then my legs got so bad I could hardly walk so I bought the Kindle. I love it. There are a lot of free books you can download and you can either read the books or listen to them.
Nola, I just read all the posts and I want to express my sympathy at the loss of your daughter.

I will be making lots of music this week-end. One of our organists has shingles on her face and her eyes are swollen shut and she can hardly see so I will be playing for her tomorrow morning in addition to accompanying the choir tonight. Usually when I end up doing two Masses at least it's the same music, but the choir has their own music so it's going to be two sets of music. Then I have a funeral to play for on Wednesday night at 6 PM which is different but OK, I can do it.

My dd and her three daughters are going to Madison today to take part in the big rally at the capitol for state workers union rights. The kids are very interested in how this affects their teachers and dd said it is turning into a historical event so she wants to give them the chance to witness a part of history. I give her a lot of credit as I wouldn't want to be in that huge crowd, but I guess that's my age. She is very good about discussing things like current events, elections, issues that have more than one side to the story , etc. in an effort to make them better and more involved citizens and I admire her a great deal for that.

Have a great week-end all.

I had a busy day today. I got up and did some yard work, cleaned up and went to count Read-A-Thon money for the International Reading Association this morning. I did not realize we were counting on Saturday until yesterday during the intake of money from the schools. I left just before 1:00 p.m. and had lunch with a friend and then headed up to the soccer field to watch a grand play soccer with her age group. After her game I came home for awhile and then went back to watch another game for an older girl. After the game I went to Cost-U-Less, which is equalivant to Cost Co, did some shopping had then a healthy dinner getting home after 7:00. It is about 9:30 now and I am ready for bed but wanted to say hello to everyone.

Have a great day all!

Sharon, good to see that you are feeling much better. Hope everyone else in your family is also doing well.

We had open house at our complex yesterday and I volunteered at the event to help out. Our local Fox channel wanted to interview a resident so they asked me if I would do an interview with one of their reporters. I did the interview and they showed it on all their time slots in the evening. My kids were so excited, especially Val, my GD. She thought her granni was so cute.(her words) We had a huge crowd with the mayor, city council and state reps here and a lot of community people here. It was really nice.

Wishing all a good evening and a very blessed weekend,

How funny! I am in the middle of "Plum Lucky" by Evanovich right now. It seems we have a lot of readers in out little group. I also read a lot of books about the Amish. I have been to Holmes County in Ohio many times and their way of life fascinates me.

Lupe, I see where you were computerless for a while also. It drove me nuts.

It is a lovely day here again today. We let the cats out on the porch but I don't think they remember going out after all the cold weather.

Hope everyone has a great day. Best wishes to all. Janice

Hello to all - Nola, I am sorry to hear of your daughter's passing. God bless you and you have my sincere condolences.

Not doing much today - did my walking as today it is 80 here in our area. Hard to believe this beautiful weather with all the snow/ice we had a couple of weeks ago.

Jane, glad to see you posting and all is well with you.

Wishing all a very blessed day.

HUGS to all.

I think at times my life sounds much busier and exciting than it actaully is. I do try to keep busy, but also have periods of burying my nose in a book and just vegging. I do read Evanovich. She is hilarious, and at one point when I knew I was going to be stuck in a face down position for a week after eye surgery I got several of her books on tape to help pass the time of day. They were even more hilarious when done with a real New Jersey accent. Sometimes just plain funny is good for the soul.

Not much on my agenda today for a change. I got my kids off to school this morning and will probably continue working on the mess on my desk and getting my paperwork in order for taxes. UGH!!!

Lupe, I'm so glad you are enjoying your new place. Everyone else have a wonderful day.

If I were subbing and taking care of an elderly mother I would not be doing many of the things I am doing now. I do spend long periods reading and by myself. I guess I usually put a positive spin on my days telling what is constructive and fun in my life even if it is only a few minutes of the day.

We did the intake of money from the Read-A-Thon for the International Reading Association today. We use to bring in a lot more money than we do now... The money pays for the hotels we hold our meetings in, books for children at the hospital, different shelters, etc., and for teachers to go to the international conventions. Our school system does not pay for this type of thing but will give the teachers time off, with pay, so they can attend. We have also been given free tickets by Continental. We also bring authors, poets and illustrators out here to encourage the students to read.

Next week we count the money that is in the bank vault right now.

Good morning all. Yes, I am a book nut. I can get lost in a good book and end up staying up half the night to finish it. I like mysteries, spy stories, government conspiracy stories and then all kind of things like "Water for Elephants" , The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society"--lots of things. I have quite a few friends and my 90 year old aunt that I exchange books with. I guess the one thing I do not read is sappy romance novels. I have read several Jody Picoult books which are about all manner of contemporary issues like school shootings, priest abuse, babies born as donors for siblings etc. I call mystelf a print junkie.

I took my elderly friends to coffee this morning and now am babysitting the 8 year old as school was called off today due to dense fog. There was a multiple vehicle accident just a few miles outside town yesterday in the fog that resulted in the highway being closed all day long. People tend to drive like idiots in the fog and endanger everyone. I'm glad I am no longer making that drive to work so I can just stay home when it gets like this.

Have a good day all. If anyone wants to recommend a good book or author I'm always open for suggestions.

Nola, I am so sorry to hear about your DD. I know only too well about losing one so young. My prayers wil be with you.

Mary, It sounds like you had a good report. I just knew that you liked bookstores What type of books do you like? I am an avid mystery reader but I throw some others in now and then.

Jane, I don't think I could keep up with your any Mary. Between my aunt, subbing, and church I don't have time for much else.

Sharon, It is so nice to see you back. Hope all is well with you.

I am going to enjoy this beautiful day even if I have to be inside with dear aunt. She has been pretty sick so I stay in calling range. Best wishes to all. Janice

Good morning to you all, Have had beautiful days here this week. Went out to dinner last night at a cousins that is only here for the winter. They are going to be leaving in another couple of weeks. Will miss them. We got reacquainted after years apart. It's been fun.

This afternoon I work at the accountants office for a few hrs. Decided to do it again part time. I enjoy the people so much that I work for. and it is only 2 months..

Off for a brisk walk and on with the day.

A great way to change your look is to wear a smile.

I wnet for my 6 mo check up at my retina specialist yesterday and all was well. Then I met my sister at Barnes and Noble for lunch and bookstore browsing. It's one of my favorite places. We are having beautiful warm sunny weather in SW WI this week and the snow is actually melting. I know it won't last but it's fun while it's here.

Today I have to clean up my desk and start organizing for taxes, then am meeting some of my HS classmates for a late lunch. After we met monthly to plan our reunion last year we decided to just keep on meeting and always enjoy the get together.

Hope you all have a good day too.

So sorry for your loss, Nola. It's hard to lose anyone, but to lose one so young is so sad. Your DD is only 3 years older than mine and I can't imagine losing her.

I have a very quiet Valentine's Day but have been really busy today. I read at the hospital, had lunch with some friends, walked up two flights of stairs that seem to help my hip and then went to help the Upi Go Green 4-H Club. Stopped on the way home for groceries and had a healthy supper. Going to get off the computer for awhile and then come back later.

Ok, didn't mean to be a 'downer' on Valentine's day.. What are you all doing special today? Are you doing something special just for you or your loved ones? I gave dh a massage last night and will go to the casino for a 'cheap' dinner tonight.. It will be fun. Would love to hear what you are doing emoticon

Nola, so sorry to hear about your dd. Will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Been AWOL.. Just returned from a trip to Tx. dd passed away on Feb 3rd. from complications with meds for pneumonia. don't know the details yet and guess it really doesn't matter. she is gone. She was 49. way to young. Leaves a 10 yr old boy, who is now with his dad and has an extended loving family so feel he will be taken care of well.

Ahhh the S word and she had the vaccine...

I HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF FRIENDS WHO HAVE SHINGLES AND IT IS NO FUN. GET THE SHOT. Some people have a case and that is it. Others get it and the it comes back and comes back and... GET THE SHOT, even if you have to pay $200+ for it.

I wish everyone a HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! It is nearly over here as it is almost 6:00 p.m.

Have a great day all!

Good morning all. I guess the answer to our problems is to know our limitations and to adjust and deal with them. Easier said than done sometimes, but necessary just the same. I have a lunch date today. My sister's MIL called and asked me to lunch as my sister and bil are going to be there and she knows I don't get to see them often. I was supposed to meet my sister at my elderly Aunt's house for lunch tomorrow, but aunt called and cancelled because she has the shingles. I feel so bad for her. She says she has had the vaccine so I am not sure why she would get them, but she is a little bitty 90 year old who is just the shapest lady ever and I so enjoy visiting with her. I hope things get better soon so we can reschedule.

Have a great Sunday all and God bless you.

Several years ago; I fell several times...I had to go to a physical therapist who retrained me to walk with a bit wider stance and to SLOW down...part of the time I was tripping over my own feet because of walking with my feet so close together...the other times it was more a matter of balance and tripping on things in my rush to get things done....LOL I hate to fall and have not for a couple of years....Watch your step, everyone. I agree, I will need to re program myself. I have always been a speedy mover. Yesterday I kept telling myself to slow down was very hard.
Will keep trying.
Have a Great Sunday everyone.

You are right, she may be right. I have a drop foot as a result of nerve damage during my last back surgery. I used to fall flat on my fact quite often because I would be trying to hurry and catch my toe in some little bump in the ground or floor. After getting banged up pretty bad a couple of time I have learned to just slow down and be more careful. It takes a fair amount of reprogramming though when you are used to dash method of getting around. Good luck.

I never did break a bone, but had a few stitched, nasty road rashes, and one beatiful black eye as a result.

It is strange, this year I got very good heavy boots thinking they would ground me. Did not work, my daughter told me I need to slow down and not dash around like the energizer bunny. She maybe right.
