Welcome Sally...Well, you have certainly proven that you can handle anything and everything! Even with all you have on your plate you have a "can do" attitude.....so this weight loss journey is going to just be another thing that you conquer; and you've even got one major weight loss behind you. You can do it!!!! Have an awesome week.

Hello a place to meet and chat.

well,

its my first day on 60+ and looking to lose 50+ im looking to lose , realistically, 80 to 100 .

and can't believe it. cant believe im 60 . i lost 80 when i was 54 . had a breakdown, got sick, lost my job, tried to get divorced, failed at that, had another breakdown, daughter totaled my car, got robbed , got sick again, lost my retirement money, have gained back all the weight, have a non functioning daughter over 30 living home, have a job 12 hours a week, bought a 20 yr old car for 400 dollars and am trying to get back on my feet. Also i take care of my dad who lives a couple houses away , he doesn't need much caretaking , i just cook for him, keep him company and do a little housekeeping about 20 hours a week, he's 85. so, that's my introduction. Also i have 2 other grown children with good jobs and they are married and have 5 little grandchildren one is 5 yrs old 3 are 3 yrs old and one is 1 yr old and they are delightful. I used to garden but have sun allergies and can't go out side now..........so dont' do much of that anymore. I go on the computer a lot. I babysit a lot. I used to cook a lot but don't really have a lot of money for groceries and my taste is gone from medications and trying to lose weight i am afraid to eat! This morning i finally decided on having an apple with peanut butter i thought that would be a good choice. I had 2 cups of tea and 2 big glasses of water too. Im really going to try to lose the weight because its so hard to move around between the fat and joint pain and i shouldn't say the age but i do feel a big difference at this age. does anyone else? my name is sally........im hoping to get well.

Hi, I am very new to the Spark website and I am trying to find my way around. My name is Chris. I am 64 and need to lose 50+. How do I go about entering into discussions with other Spark members in my same boat? I have been rather inactive this summer because I had beck surgery the end of June. But I am better now and trying to walk a little everyday. emoticon

How do I add my weight goal graph line?

Hi,, I'm still alive,, it's just been a very busy summer. it's getting much cooler up here in the mts. we can really feel fall in the air. Only another 3 wks and we will head back to Tucson. '

I really need the dicipline of the gym and a regular workout.. this summer has been brutal on my body. It seems several times a week we are eating out, or having a party of some sort..Sure has been fun though so guess I will just bite the bullit and get back in the groove when I get home.

will read the posts and catch up later.. just wanted to check in and let you all know I am still alive. Doing a lot of work up here too which is great. It just doesn't use many calories :-)

We in WI have had a very hot and humid summer this year, this morning is it cool and dry what a relief.
I love fall but do not like what comes behind the beautiful colors.

It is great to have a harvest to look forward to. In my part of the country (Southwest Missouri) our harvest is just about over. We usually don't get our fall weather until later October. Today is going to 98 degrees!! emoticon

I believe we have two threads going for this month, not sure how it happened. Anyway I'm just stopping by to say hi and wish all a good evening. We are having cooler mornings and nice sunny afternoons here in the pacific northwest. I love it. I know the fall weather will arrive here soon and I'm hoping my tomatoes have time to ripen before it happens.

I've been hoping to get some warmer weather here in the pacific northwest. It has arrived, the garden is growing. It has been in the 90's. I know it won't last long but I'll enjoy it while it's here.

Have a good day everyone.

Hope everyone had a good weekend
I see below a comment from me about the scorching weather in UK. (12 July)
Well that did not last and now we are moaning about grey skies and cool breezes.
Never happy some folks!!
Off for a swim now and then a 2 mile walk to town for toning tables appt.
Have changed my weigh in day to Wed as it fits in better with my weekly routine. I cannot always get online on Mondays.
I am pleased with progress so far- albeit slower than I could wish.
Good luck in the week ahead
Chris

So interesting hearing about the weather "over the pond."
Here in S.E. England it is scorching - but we have the luxury of knowing that it is unlikely to last more that a week or two. Not that that keeps us from moaning about being too hot. I expect a thunderstorm will lead to cooler weather and then we will be grumbling about having a bad summer and looking longingly at travel brochures, dreaming of relaxing in the sunshine. Never content with our lot are we?

Hi! I haven't been on in such a long time. I do read it and see that people are losing weight and enjoying life.
I really need to get back on and get a little moral support. I started to work hard about a month ago to lose weight for a class reunion. It is in two weeks and I haven't lost one pound. Well maybe I can lose at least five before then. They aren't going to recognize me. lol I'll try to get back with the program

Right now it is hotter in my house than outside!!! I woke up a few minutes ago from a nap dripping sweat. When I check the thermometer in my bedroom it was 92 degrees. No wonder I was dripping! My computer showed it was 86 degrees outside. Today I really wish I had an air conditioner. I don't feel that way very often because my body temperature is usually low because of my non functioning thyroid.

Hope everyone else is cooler.

I am right there with the weather conversation ~ I am exhausted from spending two days out doors working due to the beautiful weather we have had after all the many many days of rain. I don't intend to stay out so long but one weed seems to lead to another! emoticon I was out for over 6 hours total today (morning two hours then 4 more later in the afternoon)

Yesterday I cleaned out my carport to try and make room for the car before the summer heat hits. Did some yard work also. Pool closed tomorrow ~ I will be glad to get back in the water on Tuesday. I sure hope all the extra work helps with the weight loss. I know it curbs my appetite ~ too tired to over eat. It just takes me 4 times as long to do things from my power chair or a walker but the yard is looking better all the time.

Getting out in the world God created is just so energizing! emoticon

Jane I wish I could connect with you when you come but that is the other end of the state from me.

It is a beautiful day here. I got over 100 minutes of yard work in this morning without realizing it was happening. I will be joining some other retired teachers for lunch and then I am not sure what.

My travel plans are beginning to shape up. It looks like I will be leaving here around June 29th and returning around the end of July early August. I find being gone for more than six weeks leaves things up it the air with bills etc.

I am hoping to meet up with some other Sparkers in the Greater Portland area or down in Long Beach, which is on the Washington Coast. If you are in that area...

So weather is the topic of the day. Well, here in SW Wisconsin in a year's time we can go from 100 degrees in the summer to as low at -20 in the Winter. There is something for everyone. Most usually our summers are in the 70-85 degree range with a few 90+ degree days and our winters are quite snowy with temps usually in the teens but extreme's are possible in both seasons. Fall is my favorite time of year with the turning leaves and temps usually in the 60's and 70's. Right now we are experiencing an unusually warm spring with lots of 80's already in May so as I say, we have something for everyone. Our summers usually get quite humid also.

I volunteered for a couple of special days with my granddaughters pre-K class two years ago and I have the greatest respect for those of you who have the patience to teach little kids (or any kids for that matter). I dearly love them in small doses, but a whole class full every day and I would be a wreck. Hat's off to all teachers and on this week-end to all our military to whom we owe so much. Hope you are all having a wonderful holiday week-end. I am off to a 13 y.o. birthday party in about an hour. Last night she was honored at the Brewer's baseball game in Milwaukee with her name among the birthdays on the Jumbotron. Big stuff when you are 13

Mary emoticon

Thanks for the information, Jane. I understand what you mean about the 4-5 year olds. I taught Kdg. for 13 years before I retired. I actually spent all but 2 years in the Kdg., 1st and 2nd grades. I hope that some people in other areas post their weather. It is interesting. Janice

Guam's weather usually runs in the mid to high 80's during the day and sometimes goes into the low 90's. Our humidity can be in the high 80's to 90's on a regular basis also. Our hottest time of the year is debatable with some people say May/June is the hottest and others September/October. Before we had air conditioning I remember sweat dripping off my chin onto a students paper as I was trying to teach them to write their name. I was leaning over and gripping their hand and the pencil going over the strokes with them. I taught kindergarten and at that time some of them were only 4.5 when they entered and really struggled.

In January/February it has gotten down as low as 68 degrees in the morning just before dawn. (I am reaching for a cover if I have kicked them off earlier.)

Hope this answers you questions. When I am in Oregon and it is 98 degrees at night it is too hot. I realize the 98 is higher than it really is but it sure feels like it and my family always ask if I am warm enough.

Good afternoon everyone. It is hot here in SE Ohio. I didn't expect the 90's until July. I do not do well in the hot weather. If it's not air conditioned--I'm not there. (Except for DGS's graduation. At least it was quick.)

Mary, It is so exciting to hear about your house. My youngest sister lives in our home place, so when I say I am going home, I am going there. I will pray about your house sale.

Jane, Here's want of those inquisitive questions again. How hot does it get on Guam? Is there a lot of humidity? How cold does it get?

I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and stay safe. Janice

The house I am trying to buy is just two blocks from where I live now. For the past 42 years I have lived just two blocks from the house I grew up in. I like to joke that I haven't gotten very far in life, but I really like this neighborhood, plus, my youngest daughter just lives one block from me, close enough to be handy and far away enough for us both to have our privacy. The move would put us three blocks apart. My youngest son lives about halfway across this small town of about 5000 people and he is really hoping I get the house because it includes a little horsebarn that he is drooling over for a workshop.

Good morning - Mary, glad you got the price at the rate you wanted to buy it. Are you moving in the WI area or out of state? Good that DD's are coming to help you with getting the house ready for sale. Have a great weekend and don't over do it.

Went walking this morning - another hot/humid day here in Texas.

Hope all is well with everyong and have a great weekend.

The Holiday week-end is supposed to be super here in Wisconsin. We have had two days of absolutely gorgeous weather with temps in the low 80's, low humidity and a nice mild breeze. Can't ask for much more.

The sellers and I have agreed on a price for the house I want to buy. Now please all pray that I can sell my house, because I can only afford to own one at a time. My girls are coming tomorrow and Monday to help me do some cleaning and decluttering to get spiffed up for prospective buyers. I know that in this economy it's along shot, but I can't give up without trying.

Took time out on Thursday to go to the elementary school art show with my littlest GD. Those kids are pretty talented.

Have a great week-end everyone.

Good afternoon and hope everyone's day is going as planned.

Vicki, glad to see your post - how are you and rest of the family members doing?

Did not do too much - it is 95 here today. Did get to the beauty shop and got my hair permed. This is much easier for me as I can just moose my hair after a bath.

Have a great evening!!!!

I know I do not write that often but it is nice to know that you are there. I do read your posts often.
The weather here (Chicago area) is really beautiful today. I received my lavender plants that I ordered from QVC and planted them today in front of my house. They smell wonderful.
I did the fitness thing this morning. I did my usual 28 minutes on the elliptical. Hard to do but I feel so good afterward.
Well take care and have a great extended weekend. Janet

Hi everyone. Enjoyed reading the posts and catching up a little. On a little break from work (5 days in a row off. WOW) Hope to get fridge and deep freeze cleaned out and then go get some new choices. Saving room for some of the fresh choices from the garden. Had our first green beans and new potatoes for dinner last night. Better yet hubby cooked.
Everyone have a blessed day.

Slept better last night. Did not wake up gasping for air. Worked in the yard this morning and then took a bunch of trash that is not biodegradable to my son's so he can take it to the dump. I usually have one tall white trash bag a week. The rest of the stuff goes for collection.

Have a good day everyone.

I too try to take one day at a time ~ my "turtle" diet plan of the past year is bringing me better results than I have had in a very long time ~ It is a struggle to deal with success to go beyond the "idea" of losing weight and getting fit to the "reality" of it. to spend so many years dealing with how I am going to do it to actually living in the body where it is happening. I have in the past sabotaged myself at that point where I have never been before or at that plateau that grabs hold of us all. It is hard work and tedious but I like this "reality" vs the "idea" and Pray each day to stay in the "reality" and not revert to the "idea".

Sharon, I am where you are. I have not lost weight since January mainly because I am not eating right. emoticon Of course this is my own fault but I am still frustrated. I think your idea of re-reading "The Spark" might be a good idea. I need to remember, one day at a time.

I wish you well.

Thanks, Mary, if I can just continue to have days like today; I'll be fine. I've been active all day and ate the way I should. I'm planning to treat each day as if I'm just starting and do it one day at a time. I know I've been doing too much 'mindless' eating lately. I need to read 'The Spark' and get some fresh inspiration...after being here so long; I've become lax and sloppy about posting my food...that ends today! Good luck in your efforts...sounds like you are moving in the right direction. emoticon Sharon

I feel your pain Sharon. I have been having the same problem and then compounded it by traveling and eating wrong and gaining. I decided to start over with reading "The Spark" and doing the 28 day program. Also have been diligent about my exercise even when I really didn't want to and I have lost two pounds each of the last two weeks. Still up from my starting point but I feel like I'm making progress. Hang in there.

The thing I'm determined to do this week is lose a couple of pounds and get OFF this plateau...I guess it's a plateau when you go back and forth ..up and down, 1 or 2 pounds for weeks. I KNOW I can do this, and I am tired of not losing after I did so well the first year or two...I'm the only one keeping this from happening...enough already... I will be strong!!! emoticon emoticon Sharon

Good afternoon all. It is a very nice day here. The sun is shining and the temp is about 75*. I subbed this morning for 4th grade. I turned down a day Friday because it was their Fun Day and, of course, the principal moved it to today, so I still had to be out in the sun. I am not made for that anymore.

Lupe -- Your house sounds about like mine. Grandson and 2 friends had a big party together for family and friends at our Community Center and then they had graduation last night.(Sunday). DGS is going into the Air Force in the fall. That was the earliest they could take him. On Saturday they won the District championship in baseball and so now they go to the next level on Thursday. It is exciting.

Jane - I'll bet you miss going to school during the summer. I know you love reading.

Hello to everyone else. I hope your weather is clearing up and you can enjoy these last spring days. Janice

Good Morning all. It's hot and humid in Wisconsin today too. We are having an early spell of 90 degree temps and high humidity, July weather.

I got my exercises done but was really sweating by the time I got done. I have central air but it doesn't get the upstairs too good and that's where my exercise equipment is.

The RE agent is coming shortly to look at my house and advise me about how much I can resonably ask for it and to write the offer to purchase the one I want. Lots to think about and pray for.

Hope everyone has a good week. Lupe the graduation celebration sounds like fun. We had a big party for our Alex last year and it was a great time.

Good morning to all - it is a very hot/humid day in Texas today. Went walking aroun 6:00a.m and it was already hot. Worked up a sweat today.

Nola, Pat, Sharon and all those that we have not heard from, hope you are all doing well. You are all in my thoughts/prayers.

This week and next are going to be busy weeks as we are getting ready for Dani's graduation from Sachse High School. She will graduate June 4 and DD and SIL are throwing her a big party on Saturday. She has 2 friends graduating with her and they are combining the 3 parties-whole lot of people will be here for sure. It is always nice to see GD's and their friends graduate.

Just doing a few loads of laundry as the humidity really sapped my energy this morning. I think I am just getting older.smile.

Everyone have a great and blessed day. HUGS to all.

Mary Ann, welcome back and glad you had great time. Sorry that your ankle was giving you problems but spending time in spa/pool is not bad. It is always nice to come back home, no matter how nice a vacation we have. Welcome back, my friend.

Jane, glad you got some rain in Guam.

Everyone take care and have a very blessed night.

Missouri, sounds like you had a great trip! So, now it's back to work. Good for you.

Vijoy, your garden sounds delightful. I will be in Oregon around the end of June and plan to go to the Portland Rose Garden again to see and smell the roses.

Cut my yard work short today because it rained! It rained yesterday too and on the way to evening church there was the most beautiful rainbow. I could not have taken a picture of it because it was so huge! I am so glad for the rain because we have a lot of brown grass and other foliage. They are talking about a drought before this dry season is over. I do hope not.

Hello... Got back late last night from a 15 hr. road trip home from Florida. We had a great time. We stayed in a beautiful 3 bed.,3 bath condo right on the beach in Ft. Walton. On the fifth floor we could see the beach down below from three different rooms. Dolphins were out several times for us to watch. I had a very difficult time walking in the sand because my ankle was swollen & painful so I enjoyed the pool & spa most of the time. We met a lot of people from around the states & enjoyed talking to them as well as watching the little kids have fun. Vacations are nice & make me want to live on the beach, oh well, dreams are nice too.
Now back to getting some weight off this tired body, Mary Ann

I am so grateful that my husband still loves me after all my nonsense thru the past 50 years.

Thank you , John

Oh joy! this morning I finally broke through to loose another pound. this surely is a slow yet steady journey I am on.

We barely missed a frost last night with temperatures dropping and hail falling during the day yesterday. I have too many things planted that should be covered for me to go out in the cold in that power chair to cover them. The sun is shining through the clouds this morning and altho rain is predicted all week I have hopes the sun will break through each day so my summer plants may grow. I also want to plant my Dahlias in the new bed I have prepared for them. people here in Oregon say this has been a very unusual Spring~ cold and wet.

I am going to my cousins to celebrate her 59th birthday today ( just a kid LOL) My granddaughter, Rachel comes in just two more weeks! Life is good. Joyce

Good morning all. Jane, I hope you are right, just a cancellation. I am a happy camper today because I finally lost 2.4 pounds. I had gained a few with all my traveling and it was very upsetting to me, but now I feel like I'm heading in the right directions again.

Yesterday I went to look at a house that I am thinking of putting an offer on. It is three blocks up the street from where I live now, but considerably newer than my house, smaller, and all on one floor. It needs some updating, but seems to be in pretty good shape and has a beautiful lot. It's probably just a pipe dream because I would have to sell my house first and in this economy it's a long shot, but I guess nothing ventured, nothing gained. One of the granddaughters has already relieved me of one of my beds. She got tired of sharing with her sister and they had worked it out for space, but she needed a bed. Gramma was happy to be of assistance.

Have a wonderful Sunday all, and Jane, good luck at the dr.

Good evening everyone. I just got back from a cook out for my grandson's graduation. He graduates from high school Sunday. It is really exciting because their baseball team made it to the state finals and they play that tomorrow.

Jane, I am glad to hear you are on the mend and to hear about your book distribution. I never mind when there is nothing on TV because I have my books.

It seems like this has been a long day and I guess it has what with taking my aunt to get her hair done and then out to lunch and then the party. My DGD and her husband of one month came to visit along with my DD, so I think I am ready to crawl into my PJ's and a book.

Have a great day all. Janice

Lupe, yes, I am on medication for the thyroid. I am also a member of the "Thyroid Team" and have learned a lot about the thyroid through this group. One of the important things is most doctors do not know much about how the thyroid affects the rest of the body. You might want to join us.

I am going to the last board meeting and luncheon for the International Reading Association for this school year. I will be giving the books that have been collected to the shelter for abused women in the next few days.

Have a great day everyone.

Hello to all - Mary, enjoy your lunch with former co-worker. It is always nice to see friends and catch up on happenings in our lives.

Jane, hope all comes out good with your blood work. Do you take pills for your thyroid? I had to have thyroid surgery years ago and have to take a pill everyday as they removed most of my thyroid gland.

Everyone have a nice day and a very good weekend.

Take care and be safe.

Good morning all. It's cool and rainy in SW WI today, but the week-end and all next week are supposed to be really hot. We seem to be jumping right into summer all of a sudden.

I have a lunch date with a former co-worker today. I haven't seen her for over a year so I am looking forward to that. My son and GD were here for supper last night while Mommy golfed so we had a nice visit. The little one invited me to an art show at the elementary school next week. That should be interesting.

Off to the great upstairs to lift a few weights and walk on my treadmill now. Hope you all have a good day.

Janice, the last day for public school is May 27, this year. Most of the Christian Schools are already out.

Got blood work done today. No bruise, hurrah! This is for my thyroid but also checking to see if I have an infection as I am still coughing and have draining from the sinus.

Have a great day everyone.

Hello group. Thursday is my day to go to coffee with four ladies in their 80's in the am and then I usually take my friend who is battling cancer out for lunch because her husband does not come home for lunch on Thursday, so I've been on the go all morning. A beautiful day here in WI. It is supposed to cool off an rain tomorrow but then get sunny and hot for the week-end.

On the glasses discussion, I find that a little larger lense is good for the progressive bifocals. I had sunglasses that were smaller and don't like them at all.

Hope everyone is having a good day. Janice, I know what you mean about the oxygen. My friend with the cancer has a small portable concentrator that she wheels along behind her on a small luggage carrier and that seems to work pretty well. She had the small canisters at first but they had a very limited time. Unfortunately her insurance doesn't cover the oxygen and it was pretty expensive too. Her husband is a dentist so he purchased the small concentrator through a medical supply place an that seems to work well for them and is cheaper too.

Have a good rest of your day.

Good Afternoon all. I went to our Retired Teachers' Luncheon today. It was nice to see old faces again and tell stories of our days in the trenches. Auntie seema to be doing well on the oxygen but she is waiting for a small container so she can go out to eat or get her hair done. Those bigger canisters are OK but hard to handle.
Vijoy--I just traded my big lenses in for the smaller ones. Which do you like better?
Jane -- How much longer till school is out on Guam?
Lupe -- How ae things in Texas/ We are having a nice day before the rain comes back tomorrow.
Best wishes to all. Have a great day. Janice

I got my new glasses today ~ a much larger frame that seems to work better with my progressive lenses. I broke my other pair two weeks ago and it has been hard to get along without them ~ I had to buy a pair of reading glasses at Walmart so I could drive.

I have allowed improper eating to enter my daily routine this past week ~ something I need to nip in the bud. "just this one time" is the worse thought in the English language for me.

Good afternoon all. My aunt had a dr. appt. this morning so we were out early. She is going to have to be on oxygen from now on. For some reason she is either losing blood or she is not producing blood so she doesn't have the oxygen she needs to get around. I go next week to find out about surgery on my arm. Woopie!! It sounds like things are getting a litle better with you, Jane. Hope your progress continues.I hope everyone has a wonderful evening and a great tomorrow. Janice

Good morning gang. Went out with the girls last night instead of tonight because one friend is leaving tomorrow at 0 dark-thirty (her words) for a trip to see her nephew graduate from the AF academy and she needs to get to bed early tonight. Had a good evening out and was home by 8.

Today after school the littlest gd and I are going to have a car and truck cleaning party. Beautiful day to spread our work out on the driveway and try to recover my vehicles after a whole winter of driving kids to school. Nothing much else exciting going on but that's OK.

Jane, hope the meds kick in soon.
Everyone else have a great day.

When things were not going the way I wanted them to, my Mother used to always say "this too will pass" and she was always right. These excess pounds will pass too if we believe.
