I'm blessed with a very different THanksgiving this year--we'll be gong to visit my son and his new wife at the Research facility in the National Prairie--as he says, "the prairie chickens don't know it's a holiday", and the work has to go on. We'll travel with my daughter and her new husband, take special treats, and make our own new traditions. I will enjoy whatever strikes my fancy on that day.

If it was just one day--no problem!! But I find it's all the days before, and after, between now and New Year's, that put me at risk. It's the special dinners and office treats, the parties and 'drop-by' times with friends...that make the season so special--and so dangerous!!

And I don't have my strategy down yet...!

My husband and I approach the big dinners by choosing to only eat foods that we like and enjoy. That means my meal that day leans more toward pie, while his meal is more turkey and sweet potato casserole. emoticon It's still a challenge though - trying to find the balance between eating enough so that the cooks don't feel bad, yet not being so stuffed at the end of the day!

I have really come to hate the day. It just turns in to such a hassle. I would much rather go volunteer at a soup kitchen. But, there are family members involved that must be considered

This holiday has gone from what is was meant to be, a time to slow down and be greatful for what you have, to a frenzy of cooking and pigging out, to sleeping in front of a football game on tv and then pigging out some more.

We've been working here for almost 9 months. How do you plan to navigate this food-filled weekend?
