I also find it easier to eat healthy when alone--some people have the opposit, for me it's just easy when I'm alone. but I guess that's what we have to work on--making healthy coices in groups! The largr the group, the harder time I have! So now I'm working with my goal-setting to deal with that issue.

Luckily I'm not with big groups often!

Sometimes I feel like when my husband is home, all the bets are off and I have to really hold back (sometimes I cant). I love food, but it's so much easier to eat healthy when he's not around.

Hi Larry- I agree with you, being "alone" doesn't necessarily mean being "lonely". One of the best things a person can do for themselves, it to enjoy there own company!

I learned a long time ago that lonliless was a state of mind. I am my own best friend. But even at those times when my wife has been away for any extended period of time, I know where to go. Believe me, I have a support system that is believable. I thank you for your concern. Now go forth and enjoy your day.

Good morning all.

I'm not lonely. When my wife was in a Skilled Nursing Facility (she spent 6 months there in 2007) I grew tired of my own cooking real fast. Since she has been home, I do all the cooking, although for a change of pace, I go get take out once and a while when I have no idea what to fix or am to lazy to fix or want somebody else to cook.

My wife is bedridden and I do most of the house work. We have home health care in three days a week to assist. It is working out as it should, with no complaints.

Now enjoy the day.

Since I get tired of my own cooking real fast, when I am alone I try new things or go to a reastruant where I can have the semblance of having people around. I do not go hungry in any case.

Well I don't have a husband or anything like that (yet, haha), but when I am home alone, I cook whatever I want, I have a load of vegetables and other good healthy stuff, and I cook just for myself, when my parents are home, they're usually the ones that cook (I cook sometimes) and so I still eat the healthy part of the meal, but it's still kinda different.

I tend to grab something quick, like a bowl of cereal, a microwave omlette, or a sandwich. I'm not by myself for dinner that often so I really had to think about it!

It really depends if my kids are here or not. Actually I do eat different if DH isn't here no matter what. It's just different what I eat.

If the kids are here I make breakfast - pancakes & sausage, or I make fried rice and egg rolls. The one that don't like that get whatever they want.

If it is just me, I graze and have crazy combos also.
I really enjoy rice with butter and salt. However, if I am really being careful I have something from my diet book, like omelette or some type of eggs.

I eat differently when my husband isn't there to eat with me. Although he would have enjoyed everything you had for lunch today. (especially if I was just "cleaning out the leftovers". But normally I would prepare a full dinner for him- meat, potatoes and veggie. I don't always eat the same as him for dinner, and he's learned through the years that if I'm "dieting" I will sometimes make something different food for me then I do for him. As long as we "eat" together, It doesn't bother him, and I feel better for eating what I feel is better for me.

When I'm home eating alone, breakfast and or lunch, I always eat differently, such as just a salad, or just fruit for breakfast etc. which I could never get away with feeding him. It wouldn't be enough to get him through his day.

I think of it as if we were in a restaurant. He would never expect me to order the exact same foods as him and I would never expect that from him.

My husband is traveling, and I noticed that my eating habits change drastically when he's gone. For the better, actually--and certainly for the easier!!

Like today after church I had a totally weird lunch--but I loved it. Sautéed sugar-snap peas, cottage cheese, pinto beans, and half of a whole grain English muffin.

There's just no way he would like that, so I don't "cook" like that when my DH is home--but it's kinda fun to improvise when he's gone!!

Do any of you eat differently when your dear one is not there?
