I totally agree with your philosophy on sweets, everything in moderation. I always say to people who look at me funny if I accept a piece of cake or a potato chip when they know I have been loosing weight - I am making lifestyle changes, I am NOT on a diet and I can eat whatever I want. ( obviously within limit, but people should be doing that anyway! )

I will caution you about slimfast. It's pretty high in carbs and I found when I used them that I actually gained weight even staying in their calorie limit. So just be really careful with Slimfast or any other such product.

I love eating sweets too, and almost always make room for them daily. I especially like chocolate and any kind of cake. Usually I have chocolate almost every day and cake on the weekends. Right now, I am currently into the chocolate easter eggs filled with marshmallow, caramel, and my personal favorite...buterfinger easter eggs.

Sweets everyday in moderation are perfectly acceptable and I think are good for me! At least, they definitely put me in a cheery mood. emoticon

I enjoy eating sweets. My favorite dessert is Pecan Pie. I like most kinds of sweet rolls, etc. I prefer to eat my sweets in the morning rather than later in the day. But if I do not have any sweets, it doesn't bother me. Although I do eat a lot of fruit during the day.

I keep fruit close by, usually grapes as they are in season and so sweet it kills the cravings straight away. I've also eliminated temptation from my home and office, so maybe you can ask your son to hide his candy so you can't help yourself.

Even if you do give in, it's not the end of the world, you just have to acknowledge it and move on.

You are doing great BTW, 18 lbs! emoticon

Drinking plenty of water helps to keep full and if you still have sugar cravings you could try something sweet but low calorie like Watermellon, jello or marshmellow. That way you get the sugar fix but not the calories.

These are all great suggestions. Just keep busy and keep your mind off the cravings. If you are a praying person, then saying prayers often helps, too. Let us know how it goes.

I historically had a very sweet tooth. I would eat a whole bag of Twizzlers on my drive home from drill with the National Guard. I would fill a bowl with ice cream and layer it with toppings. I would regularly get something from the snack bar once or twice a day and wash it down with a Mountain Dew. Once I decided that I was going to change my habits I had to fight all of these desires. My wife told me that often when you crave sweets your body is telling you it wants fruit. You might try keeping fruits handy so that you can grab one when you get these cravings and stay on the heathy track. Good luck, and keep us posted!

P.S. Since I have been eating healthier I have been soda-free for almost seven weeks and I now only have an occasional half-bowl of slow-churned ice cream. And no bags of Twizzlers. You can do it!!!

Our bodies go through all kinds of changes during the month. I believe alot of times when we have strong cravings it is our bodies way of telling you it needs something that you haven't been giving it.

First - make sure you are drinking all your water.

Second - if that doesn't take care of the craving try doing some sort of activity, be it reading, working out, listening to music, housework, whatever may distract you from the craving.

Third - make sure you stick to your eating and workout plan but leave yourself a little extra calorie room for the end of the day. If you have met all your goals, then make yourself a healthy treat like homemade apple crisp (the recipe is in recipes on this site - I made it and it is GREAT!)

Fourth - if you have tried or try all these and they don't work then repeat the last step but allow yourself a reward treat that you normally wouldn't have. I keep a bag of mini reese peanut butter cups in my fridge and when I have room I allow myself 1 or 2. When I hit a mini goal I work out my daily eating plan so that I can have 3 or 4. This stops me from getting the major sugar cravings.

Last - if you just can't stop the cravings and have a small snack that puts you over for 1 day don't beat yourself up for it. Remember these are guidelines for us to follow and we don't have to meet them perfectly everyday. We are only human and humans aren't perfect!

You are doing great so far so don't let a little slip get you down. Just make sure you don't let it turn into something that stops you and makes you stop moving forward with all the great work you have already done!

...If you went running when you first started thinking about it, you'd be back by now.

...focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.

I have been having a big issue this week with cravings. i want sugar. like lots of chocolate and candy andall kinds of stuff. and i dont understand it. i havent had this problem before. but them again with other diets i have been on i havent lasted this long. i usually go a month and then i am done. what am i supposed to do. The sugar is all over my house. and i cant ruin my diet this week too. i already ruined last week cause of easter. oh please i need some advice. ihow do i make it through this without makiong my son throw out all his candy that he just got.

and another thing i am really hungry all the time. no matter what i eat i cant fill up. and i dont want to mess up all the good work that i have done. it would make this past 6 weeks completely pointless.
