Hey Mythos - I totally understand. I've actually gained weight since joining sparkpeople (I blame the flu). You might want to quit watching the scale for a while. Try using SP's healthy life scale, or a body fat analyzer instead. That way you will see your hard work paying off a bit more.

I definitely agree about getting your thyroid checked. I have hypothyroidism, and so my metabolism is like molasses. I have to work twice as hard as anyone else to see results. If you have other symptoms, like fatigue, dry skin, puffy eyes, tough nails, brittle hair, etc. then definitely go see a doctor and get a blood test.

And celebrate the victories! Reward yourself for your "monthaversary" for joining curves and sticking with it. Buy yourself a present when you go a week staying within your recommended calorie range. Focus on who you are and what you are doing rather than what the scale says.

Remember, you're not alone!

Having lost weight before, and always given up at the point when the scales stopped moving, I feel your pain. I think there are periods when it just doesn't move and you can try different methods to get it going again, but I also think sometimes you just have to be patient. I would try a bunch of different methods, different exercise, calorie cycling, etc, but don't lose patience either and that is the hardest part!

I can definitely empathize with you Mythos...my scale continues to move (I know I should be grateful for that!) but I'm not seeing much of a change in the tape measure. I'd love to know a cure for that!

Thanks all! Sorry for my delayed response.

I've been monitoring my diet very closely. I've actually been a bit generous because of the fact that I'm breastfeeding a couple of times a day still.

However, in a lot of ways I'm feeling like I'm eating A LOT just to keep up with my calorie recommendations. I never really used to eat all that much and I only had a couple of meals a day at best, so perhaps that's where I'm going wrong. Maybe if I err on the lighter side of my calorie allowance I'll notice a difference, although I'm DEFINITELY keeping up with the three meals a day plus snacks vs. a couple of big meals. My water intake is wonderful, but I never really drank that much either so maybe that's contributing to this.

I'm definitely noticing more tone, but I have not lost an INCH anywhere. It's just frustrating! I'm working so hard and doing everything "right".

If you've hit a plateau try calorie cycling to break through it. There is some great info in the Calorie Cycling teams page.

You've already made so much progress; don't let this get you down. Just remember, you didn't put on a pound a day (thank God) and sometimes perhaps you even held steady at the same weight for a while. If you're anything like me, you didn't have the heart to use the scale as you were on the way up, but you knew from the fit of your clothes that there were times when you were in the same size for several months at a time and then would suddenly "balloon" again. You will go down the same way. Give your body time to adjust to the "new" things you are doing to it. This is a healing process for us, both in body and mind (at least for me). Just relax, enjoy the new things you are doing and let it happen. Don't stress; "this, too, shall pass."

Keep up the good work. emoticon And remember, we are all in this together!

The others had great suggestions.

The only other thought I had is have you had your thyroid checked. For years I couldn't loose weight and come to find out I have PCOS and a thyroid issue. It didn't matter what I did I continued to gain weight and couldn't loose a thing. Anyway, just a thought for you. I just now started to loose weight.

Hang in there and don't too discouraged. It will come!

Your calorie intake my be in check, but check the pie chart at the bottom of your planner...Your fat, protein, and carb.intake may need adjusting. Also, if you eat those pre-packaged meals like nutri-system, or all the others, they usually contain high levels of sodium, thus Water Retention may be the result, so all the extra water you drink may end up on the scales..stick to fresh veggies, high fiber whole grains, limit fruit juices, they are high in sugar.use egg beaters, and promise margarine has a product that has only 5 calories, per. tbls., and no carbs.,and tastes great....do not give up....Skip the red meat...use hotel style turkey breast, lean pork loin, and skinless chicken, white meats mostly...no white rice,or breads. Keep up the exercise....remember the only thing in life keeping you from success in any aspect, is YOU !!!!!

the cities have turned into jungles,and corruption is strangling the land,the police force is watching the people,but the people just can't understand.we don't know how to mind our own business,and the whole world wants to be just like us,now we are fighting the war over there,no matter who's the winner we can't pay the cost,theirs a monster on the loose,it's got our heads into a noose,and it just sits there,watching....{John Kay,Steppenwolf }

Maybe you need to eat more food. I know that sounds crazy, but sometimes your body thinks it's going to starve so it saves it. I agree with the others, if you're losing inches the weight will go soon. Good Luck!

I'd have to agree with the other two answers. How long has it been since you've seen a change in the scale? Also, since you're exercising so much, if your body's not used to that, it might be in shock and your weight will suddenly go down.

Are you drinking enough water while exercising? I know that if you're exercising regularly, you should drink while you exercise, otherwise your body gets dehydrated and weight loss takes longer.

Keep us informed and don't give up. You'll start seeing results soon.

Hi MYTHOS,

Have you noticed any body parts feeling or looking thinner?

I swear my feet feel smaller in my shoes and I can see my lower legs looking thinner. One hip is slimmer then the other and definitely one side of my chest is smaller then the other. I have a theory
that the fat from our extremities marches closer to our core for elimation. And when we eat all those oats, they suck up all the water we drink and weigh us down. I know changes are happening even though the scale doesn't show it. I have a cheap scale so it's not going to move unless there is a dramatic change. I notice that when I exercise my joints move so much smoother too. I have a lot to be grateful for. I have more energy and totally feel healthier. I'm keeping to my calorie levels and drink water like a fish. I am having trouble with not getting enough Vit E so I'm still adjusting.
How about you?

Well, you're not alone. Hope this makes you feel
better. emoticon

In harmony, Bev.

I know its easier said then done but don't get discouraged. Look at your food intake to see if you can improve on anything. Be sure that you are drinking enough water. Are you eating with in your calorie range? Try changing you exercises a little to trick you body into loosing. I hope this helps Hang in there and keep up the great work.

Hi all!

After buying myself a snazzy new scale and comparing the results at home with the results I got at the gym(Curves) I've come to the realization that I've not lost ANY weight so far.

I've been doing the SP program religiously (Honestly truly.)and I joined curves as well (So far going 6 times a week with two 45 minute circuit days instead of the usual 30.) but I'm still not seeing any results.

I would be happy with even an honest pound.

I know that muscle weighs more than fat and I LOOK more toned, but my weight hasn't changed and neither have my measurements.

I'm getting a bit discouraged.
