One trick I use for measuring hips when I do custom sewing: Put your hands on your natural waist (Not where you wear your pants necessarily). Then keeping your hand on your waist, twist it so that you are pointing down your leg. Where your fingertips are is generally your hips. This will give you a more accurate read each time since you'll always be measuring the same distance from your waist. Hope that helps.

I measure myself once every month on the 5th. Have done so for the past 5 months or so and the results are so motivating emoticon

I measured myself for the first time today. We'll have to see what happens. I tried to use freckles to help me remember where I was measuring exactly. We'll see how that goes.

My hips though...that's a laugh. Seriously, I've been blessed/cursed with a big butt, (I could give JLo a run for her money.) so the measuring tape does not stay where it should.

Little story, when I was measure 4-5 years ago for my wedding dress, the woman at the bridal shop was so excited that I was "a perfect hourglass". I pointed out that I was a pretty big hourglass. And then realized that the only reason for the "hourglass" measurements was because I've got a big behind and a big top (to put it as nicely as I could).

I'm not on a diet. I'm changing my diet.

I've always been told to weight in once a week, but measurements are normally only once a month, maybe twice. That is what my old personal trainers use to say as well as a few other diet programs I have been on.

And I know all about confusion, I can never seem to find the same spot each time I do measure myself. Especially the hips and thighs as it really seems the fat just keeps shifting about the fattiest part is never where I expected it.

Ahhh! I haven't checked in my measurements yet. I was so flustered this past week. A week prior to starting SP I lost about 3lbs (woo!) and after concentrating on eating within calorie/nutrition range and exercising about the right about of days/time I did not loose anything.

THANKFULLY, I read the SP article about body composition and the weight loss versus fat loss. It was JUST what I needed. Basically they emphasized that your goal should be to loose fat not necessarily weight. Therefore, if your fat is turning into muscle and muscle weighs more than fat- wallah! I am going to do my measurements tomorrow AM so I can start tracking my progress there. My pants do seem to fit a lil better. wee haw!

Let me know if you find any cool tricks about measuring your hips- I am hourglass shaped...

I believe they tell you to only measure and weigh-in once a week. I would wait and see what happens in 4 more days.

Also make sure that you are measuring at the same spot every time for accurate measurements. This is the guide that I use for accurate measuring.

The hip measuring I find tricky. It's never in the same place. I read somewhere that it's suppose to be 7" below your waist???? I do the fattest part of my butt. At least your neck went down. I'm surprised mine doesn't go down I swallow so much water and talk so much. Good Luck!

Ok today is day 3 for me. On wednesday I took my measurements, my waist, hips and neck and logged them. I measured again today( friday) and my waist is the same (i expected it to all be the same) but my hips went up 5 inches, and my neck down 2 inches. How can my hips get bigger and nothing else? And how often should I be measuring?

THanks
Krista
