Wow, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one having trouble, but since my original post, I've gotten much better...

I feel kind of stupid, but I measured my glass, and I found that it was actually 24 oz, and I was counting it as an 8 oz glass. But the kind of glass, it has a thick bottom so I though it was just an illusion. I'm glad I measured it....LOL.... DUH!! emoticon

If you're having trouble with drinking lots of water avoid sipper bottles because with the narrow opening you don't get the water as fast and you feel full faster. It's the same as drinking through a straw. It's best to drink from a glass.

I keep a 710 ml powerade bottle full of water with me at all times and when it gets to a 1/4 left I go and refill it. I fill it first thing in morning and take a sip here and there and by lunch I am filling it again. and right before I head to the gym after my girls get home from school I fill it to full and drink it by the time I am done in the gym and then I fill it right before supper that gives me 10 to 12 glasses a day this way. And I have noticed that it is easier for me to drink warm water then cold water, cold water takes me longer to drink and then I don't get in as much as I should.

I went out and got a water bottle with a straw at target - http://www.trudeaucorp.com/us/products/hyd
ration/types/unbreakable/p--087222.html
I have found that I drink a lot more if i have a straw. I guess I am a habitual sipper. It works out well cause it is 24oz so then I just keep refilling it and get 3 cups a pop. I have found that I drink a lot more now. I do have to go potty a lot though and can't wait for that to stop!!!

I drink an 8 oz cup with every meal. Then I keep a water bottle filled at my desk and sip on it all day long--a minimum of 24oz. Then during/after my workout I make sure I drink at least 16 oz. I usually end up drinking more than required. After a while you become addicted to drinking water and it is no big deal. I also keep a water bottle with me in the car. It's hard to start, but once you get used to consuming water regularly it becomes easy.

I have been filling up my cup with water as soon as I finish one. Sometimes I don't even realize that I am thirsty, but before I know it the cup of water is gone. During the school day (I'm a teacher), I drink a bottle of water or so. I too am running into the bathroom issue though since I can't leave the classroom when I have a class in there.

My goal for the day was 48 oz, and so far I've had 60 oz so I'm pleased with today :-)

I find that when I'm really dedicated and drink 8-10 glasses a day, I don't even want anything else to drink! You get used to it and before you know it you won't even be craving sodas, tea, etc. I've done like alot of other people have done, I bought a water bottle (32 oz) and I drink the whole thing by lunch, and then I refill again so by the time I get home at five I've already done 64 oz - only 2 more cups to go! I also try to get them in before 9 b/c if I don't I'll be up all night in the bathroom. To give yourself a break from just plain water, you can try crystal light mixers (I think they're like 5-10 calories) you just add them to your water and shake! Or I've tried Kool-Aid's (more calories -25- but better tasting). Whatever works for you, but remember to keep it up emoticon

I really needed this thread. I'm having a hard time getting 8 glasses in...usually it's 4 or 5. I have big water bottles that I bring to work, now I just have to drink them up! It's hard being a teacher because I rarely can get out of the room for a bathroom break. and I'm one of those people with a small bladder that has to go "all the time"!!!! Today my goal is to drink 48 oz of water.

It sounds like you're well on your way. Up from 2 to 6 is nearly there. Not being able to keep a water bottle with you can make it tough, but if you can put it somewhere you know you'll be passing by often during the day it may help. Then it becomes an opportunity more than a chore. I've got it easy since I work at a desk. I refill my 32 oz. bottle three or four times a day now.

Good luck!

Mike

Is the glass half full/half empty? In my case, the bottle is always half empty...a little sense of accomplishment I'm guessing!

Water intake was int resting the first few days that I joined SP. I started off with a 16oz Arrowhead water bottle and attempted to refill it four times per day. I would forget how many I had, loose my bottle, leave it in the car, etc. This weekend, I went to the store and had to buy water for a short road trip. Instead of getting a little bottle again, I bought a 1 LITER bottle of water 33.2 oz I believe. So now, I drink one bottle throughout the morning/afternoon and refill it for the afternoon/evening.

This has helped me alot since it is so huge I don't misplace it and I don't loose track of how many times I have refilled it, etc. I also try not to drink it ice cold as it is seems to take me longer *idk why*.

I hope that helps!

I just drink all day long. I am NEVER without my water bottle! I start with 8 oz before breakfast and 8 oz with breakfast, try to get in 24 more by lunch, and 24 between lunch and dinner. That's 64 right there, and I always have 8 more in the evening. Many days I have a 3rd 24 oz bottle in the mix.

8 cups isn't too much, it's only 2 litres so ir you have a 400ml glass with breakfast lunch and dinner that's 1.2 litres and only leaves another 800ml in between meals.

I went to Walmart and got a cheap 2L jug and i fill that up and drink it by lunch time and then i refill it and make sure it's gone by bed time :) Once you start drinking more water - you'll WANT more!

At work it's easy because the water cooler is right there to keep filling my water bottle. At home I try to have 8oz first thing, then tea with breakfast, and fill a large bottle for the rest of the day to carry with me.

you can try going to the store and buying a Camelback hydration system they have them in multiple sizes i have 1,2,and 3 liter camelbacks just put them on like a back pack and it has a tube that you can position just about anywhere since you always have it on you it becomes second nature really fast to drink water. its what the army uses to get people to drink water to get ready for the sand box!! emoticon

dont worry they have them in multiple colors so you dont have to buy camo ones (unless you want to)

I try to drink all my water in the morning and early afternoon, that way I don't have to go to the bathroom when I'm in bed and try to sleep. I used to spread my water drinking during the day, but that kept me awake all night because I had to go to the toilet so much lol.

This may be somewhat time consuming, but it really helps. My mother in law adds fresh lemon or lime slices to ice cube trays. Or my personal favorite, lime and mint. Just make a tray a day and add a couple to each glass. A little flavor helps.

I also find the more I drink water, the more I crave it.

Try getting a 16 oz bottle that way you only have to drink 4 and it seems a lot less daunting at least to me than 8 8oz. But every little bit helps. Just try to increase it each day even if it's only 4 ounces at a time. You'll be up to 64oz in no time.

Lisa, Yes I do get thirst. LOL, My whole adult life, I have never drank water. It is ALWAYS coca cola. I don't drink coffee in the mornings, I just have a glass of ice cold coke. So I'm have lots of issues drinking the water, but I think I am going to gradually go up and have 1 more a day then the next.

Hello. I drink alot more than 8 - 8oz. glasses of water a day, but it's the only liquid I drink. Anyhoo, I workout in the morning and I have a 24oz. bottle of water that I drink throughout my workout and I make sure that I finish it before I'm done. Then, I have another 16oz. bottle with breakfast. Then, when I got to work, I have a 32oz. bottle that I fill and I make sure that I drink one before lunch and I fill it after lunch and make sure I drink that before I leave at 5pm. Then, I usually have 8 - 16oz. with dinner.

If you urinate all day because of only 2 cups of water, then maybe you have a small bladder or a weak bladder, or numerous other issues that you should discuss with your doctor. They also have that new medication Detrol LA that helps with frequent urination.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,
Anitra

I don't succeed everyday, but most days I do. What I have found works best for me is to drink 16 oz with breakfast, then 8 oz between breakfast and lunch, another 16 oz with lunch, then 8 oz between lunch and dinner, then I finish it up with 16 oz with dinner.

This allows me to break it up into small easy goals and it spaces it out throughout the day. If I'm thirsty after dinner and later in the evening I'll have another glass. I try not to drink a lot in the evening and right before bed. It took me about a week or two for my body to adjust but I've been fairly successful for about 3 months. Good luck and you can do it!

The easiest way for me is to use two 32 oz. bottles of spring water a day. Adding fresh lemon juice and splenda turns it into lemonade. Another way is to drink one cup before any meal or snack. It cuts down on the amount you'll eat and takes care of hydration. Most "hunder pangs" are actually your body calling for water. Lack of energy comes from poor hydration - so drink up for energy;) emoticon

Krista,
Good grief, girl what SIZE glass are you drinking from?? emoticon I've been drinking a lot of water most of my adulthood-- except when I was dealing with other beverage issues so I'm not sure how to START drinking lots of water. Some times I take Mikhail to McD's to play(remember I live in Olympia WA where it rains in ALL seasons!)Whether he gets a happy meal( he'll get chocolate milk because we pay for it anyway) or just a chicken sandwich, his beverage of choice is water. When he was a baby, I didn't give him juice because of all the sugar, we never had soda in the house(that was a bad habit I just picked up about a year ago & now,I haven't had ANY soda in the house for about a month!!) I realize none of this is helping to tell you HOW to drink more water...sorry I do tend to ramble(my typing is slow and laborious so you can imagine how I TALK!!!LOL) Anyway...back to you.. Do you drink anything during the day? If so, try replacing every 3rd-4th drink for a week ,then down to every other one until you get down to water throughout the WHOLE day. The recommendation (I believe) is 8 8oz in a 24 hr period--That's about the equivalent to a 2 liter bottle of soda! It's really not that much--if you put it in prospective. Mikhail, at 6 1/2, drinks that. I probably drink a gallon-1 1/2 gallons a day. Don't you get thirsty?? When I am thirsty(not just feel like sipping on something)nothing quenches my thirst like water. I can almost always tell days I haven't gotten enough water because by bedtime my lips are chapped. Buy yourself a really nice water bottle with measurements on side--spend money on a good one that you really like the color, design or shape of and when you get up in the morning fill it up--use it when you are done brushing your teeth, take medication or need a drink with a meal, etc & I honestly believe you will either be surprised at how much water you already drink OR how easy it is to drink 8 8oz glasses a day!! I remember picturing 8 8oz glasses filled up on the bar & having to sit and drink one right after the other & it made me feel queasy. We have 24 hrs to drink 64oz. of water?? It just doesn't seem like so much to me!I hope something in here helped---I'm sorry it was such a long way to go to get to an easy answer!!!It's time for me to go to bed--It's been an extra long day! emoticon I'm not a 2 kid kind of parent,so with my grandson here all week too.....well....Pray for us all!! emoticon

I used to go days without drinking water but now I am up to 12+ a day. The way I do it is, by drinking 1 8oz glass when I first get up in the morning. I drink another glass with breakfast. 1 20 oz bottle of water between breakfast and lunch. 1 glass at lunch. 1 20oz bottle between lunch and dinner. 1 Glass of water with dinner and 1 more before bed.
Total amount for the day 72 oz. Work your weight up to 8 glasses. Try to drink 1 more glass of water then you did the day before until you can reach 64oz of water. After your body gets used to drinking water you won't have to go as often.

The first 2-3 days of increasing your water intake will be pretty brutal. This is because your body is releasing the water it has been retaining when you weren't drinking enough. It goes away though. I drink 12 cups a day of water now and don't really have to "go" any more that I used to before.

Ok, even when I was pregnant I had the same problem. How do you honestly drink the 8 glasses of water in a day? I had 2 glasses today and I was literally in the bathroom all day peeing.

Any ideas or advice?
