I appreciate all the different outlooks on taking "pills". Was curious. Great information.

I'm scared of pills, even prescription. I am always worried about the long term consequences. I take a vitamin and that's it.

Look at a day where you are extremely satisfied at the end. It is not a day when you lounge around doing nothing, it is when you have had everything to do and you have done it.

I've used Phentermine and it did work to curb my appetite so I ate less and didn't binge, but I didn't like the side effects, so after a month I ended up not using them anymore. I experienced bad dry mouth and insomnia. I tried breaking the tablet in two and taking half in the a.m. and the remainder of the pill before 3 p.m., but I still found myself bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 2 a.m.!

For some it's exactly what they need to help with suppressing their appetite and jump starting their metabolism, for others it isn't. Every person reacts differently to medication, so talk to your doctor and the pros and cons.

Good luck!!

Sagentus, I too took pills and was closely monitored by a DR. And That is the only way to take any of the weight loss pills. Yes it is a personal choice and it does help many but the big point is "under a DR.'s supervision"! This is like you said a "jump start" nothing more. If you did not change your eating habits you will gain every pound lost and more back. I know I did! That is why this time I choose to not take anything. But I do know the Dr is on board and watching my progress.

I took Phentermine back when I started this journey. It was by prescription, recommended by my Doctor and closely monitored. My Doc suggested that it would "jump-start" my metabolism (I was completely sedentary at the time) and it did. My prescription was for 3 months (that's all they recommend), but I only took it for 2.

I suffered no addiction. It is NOT covered by most insurances, so you'll want to shop around for the best price. I got mine at Costco for less than $20.

If you decide to take them, remember two very important things:

1 - Be SURE to get regularly monitored by your Doctor, especially in the beginning. He/she will want to monitor your blood pressure, among other things.

2 - It is NOT a magic pill. There is no such thing. You MUST make healthy lifestyle changes to lose the weight and keep it off.

Weight loss is a personal thing. You have to do what's right for YOU and be sure your Doctor is on board.

Others may look down on me for making the choice, but I really could care less. I did what my Doctor recommended, used it very carefully and it worked for me.

Good luck.

I have never taken them either, but if they really did work, don't you think everyone would take them. There is no magic pill. You have to watch what you eat and exercise. And what of the side effects. Just not worth it. So put your sneakers on and take a walk. It won't happen overnight but you can do it! emoticon

I have taken weight loss pills before and they did work but I was also under a DR.'s supervision. I was monitored very close and it was not cheap! That is why I am here and not still taking them. They are very addictive! When I quit taking the meds I put on all the weight that I had taken off plus some. So taking the pills is NOT the answer, it does not help your change the way you eat (life style change)just helps get rid of the pounds. Please unless you are under DR.'s care don't start taking them as they are only a temporary crutch to help you! And the ones tht are over the counter are nothing more then a mental crutch and are out to get your money out of your pocket and in to thiers!

I don't use diet pills either. There have been so many that have tooted success and then later being recalled or part of class action suits for causing harm to people. Not worth the risk to me. Besides if they really worked all that great, why are we all busting our butts to lose weight?

I don't use weight loss pills and wouldn't recommend them unless given on prescription and being monitored by a doctor. Phentermine has been shown to be effective as an appetite surpressant but is also addictive so caution is needed.
