I just changed my fitness minutes, and it totally gave me tons more calories to work with during the day! My former high is almost my new low range! Yay for more food!

If you are not eating enough, your body can go into "starvation mode" and retain the calories that you ARE eating, thinking that you will need them in the future.

Thanks for the reminder to change my workout goals!!

I had an issue like this to. I dropped my calories down to below 1400, it was only 100 calories less but, after a week I stopped losing weight. I bumped it back up to under 1500 and immediatly went back to my average of losing 3 pounds a week. You gotta find what's best for you.

I really want to avoid a plateu. I usually try to stay towards the bottom end of my range thinking I could lose faster, but I realized when I have a couple of high days in the week, I lose more. Thanks for the aha moment!

That happened to me after about 4 months on SP. Once adjusted my program to reflect the average amount of calories I was burning, the scale started moving again.

There is a really good series of articles about plateaus that can be found here: www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness

Thanks for the input, think I'll try that one day high, one day low idea & see what it does.

I agree, first of all muscles weigh heavier that is why measuring is important, sometimes inches go when the scale doesn't move and

secondly a dietician told me it is a good idea to alternate calorie input. She suggested low one day, higher the next and low again, which fools your body into thinking that there is plenty of food and does not go into starvation mode.

From what i have read, that could certainly be it. Your body can be use to your routine and you ight need to change it up a bit, or could have gone into what some people call starvation mode, and is making you retain body fat. If the increased calories seems like a lot, you can also try a couple of the higher calorie days a week and the rest at the lower end.

3 lbs per week...

So, as I've posted many times over the last few weeks, I've been on the hugest plateau in the history of plateaus.

When I started spark I got NO EXERCISE WHATSOEVER for the first week or two and lost 15 lb by just staying in my nutrition ranges.

When I started swimming 4 days a week (which burns A LOT of calories: 1056 for each hour) I didn't think to change my fitness goals for about a month, then realized maybe I wasn't eating enough, so put in the amount of time I spend doing cardio, which bumped my nutrition ranges way up.

So I've been staying in the new nutrition ranges, and still no change in weight and only a 1.5 inch loss.

Today I noticed that the calories spark suggests I burn in a week based on my 4 days of cardio are less than I burn in two swim classes, so I went in and figured out how to change it to the appropriate number of calories....

My minimum calories are now what my maximum calories were yesterday.

Do you think this big slump is the result of unintentionally undereating? My range is now all the way up to 1570-1920, and for most of these plateau weeks i was eating around 1400... I'VE GOT MY FINGERS CROSSED FOR NEXT WEEK'S WEIGH IN!!

I'll be so happy if this is my problem... faster weight loss AND more food? I'm all for that!

I thought I'd post in case anyone else is on a plateau and didn't think to look closely at those things either!

If there were no rain, there could be no rainbows!

I'd like to be thin... but I like food better!
