I just read an article about regarding how much is too much. One would have to drink ALOT of water in a very short time for any harm to be done;we are talking major consumption. I generally get 32 oz in by the time I get to work in the mornings. I don't bring coffee for the drive, I bring my water. Then of course I drink coffee at work too and more water so... I am peeing all day long! But thats good!

My problem is at work. I do good and bring my water bottle full with ice and water but first I forget it in my bag and about 2 hours after getting to work I remember I should be drinking water but I usually can only get about 2 glasses in b/c I forget to drink. Which is stupid b/c I can get two glasses in before even going to work. I have to try and remember to take a breathier and drink. I might start setting up a reminder in my calender to drink just to get into the habit of it.

I usually carry a 1 Liter bottle around. I try to eat 3 meals, 1 snack a day. I try to have one Liter at each of the 4 times that I eat. I also have 1 Liter for my daily workout, that is a total of 5 Liters, which is about 160mL. Some people tell me a drink too much water, but it is just the right amount for me. Don't worry about drinking too much water in the day, because it is hard to mess up your electrolytes unless you are excessively exercising or starving yourself (or have a medical condition). Just listen to your body. It will tell you when to stop. For example, a headache may be your body telling you to stop. Maybe just trying to spread the water out, like 2 glasses per meal, and you will have your 8 glasses in no time! :-)

If you fall down...get right back up and keep trying. Do NOT lose sight of those goals!!!

I read somewhere that is is about 1/2 your body weight. I drink water all day/night along with some coffee sporadically. It totals to usually about 125oz a day and I feel great! emoticon
It really makes me think about how dehydrated my body probably was before starting spark!

Look at a day where you are extremely satisfied at the end. It is not a day when you lounge around doing nothing, it is when you have had everything to do and you have done it.

I also remember that article about the radio contest. If a person drinks more water than their body can handle it causes electrolyte levels to drop to a point that the brain can no longer send and receive messages properly and it causes the body to shut down. But like it was said earlier, this woman drank more than 2 gallons in a very short period of time.

I worry about it sometimes as I do "cram" my water in on occasion and a headache usually follows. At that point I just slow down and make sure to get some salt in. I have to work very hard to get full 8 glasses in, but I keep striving for it and hopefully I will be able to get more in at some point.

A goal is a dream with a deadline.

I drink anywhere from 150 to 200 oz. per day.... the variance depends on how hard my workout was in the AM... generally 25-50 oz. before/after my run.

Remainder is consumed throughout the day. I keep a 1.5 Liter (50.7 oz) water bottle on my desk at work and refill twice. I don't ususally drink anything but water so it's 2nd nature to me to sip all day.

My body tolerates 8-10 glasses of water a day in addition to 1 coffe, 1 tea, and 1 glass of red wine. I have tried drinking more but I start to retain fluid. Different if I am sweating alot and its hot.

I drink about 9 16oz water bottles a day! that's 144oz. But I drink it through out the day and nite. I have asked my doctor and he said it was fine unless I tried to power all back in a couple hours.

Thank you so much for all of your information. I have never had that type of ultrasound before but I remember my mom had once so I feel a lot less afraid that I am drinking to much. I got to 7 glasses today which is really good for me but I am not going to drink anymore or I will be waking up all night having to go to the bathroom and get no sleep but I will try even harder to get 8 tomorrow. Thanks again everyone.

there is truth to the fact that you can drink too much water though... it's called hyponatremia. it happens when a body takes in more water that it expels... anyhow... not really much of a concern, fairly rare for it to happen... we are much more likely to be dehydrated then overhydrated. for more information you can look up overhydration or hyponatrmia in the health section of spark (i think they're there) or google it.

I remember hearing about that!! "hold your wee to get a wii" i believe it was called. And as has been mentioned, a big part of it was not going to the restroom, and i think she drank several gallons in the matter of only an hour or two on a morning show!

If you drink too much water you will start to feel sick, water poisoning wont just sneak up and kill you! You'll get an extreme headhache, stomache cramps, and blurred vission... there are some other symptoms too, but i remember those from the news program talking about it.

"mom's right"...or should I say, MOMNMEL is right! That was a contest and like she said, she had to drink so much water in a short amount of time, her body never had time to adjust to it. And without being able to go to the bathroom. -I don't know if you have ever had an ultra sound or not, but I've had the kind that require a full bladder before the procedure, which meant drinking 32 ounces before the procedure. That's half the daily requirement in a short time, without going to the bathroom. It wasn't a contest it was for an ultra sound. -Keep on sipping your water, and if you are still finding yourself worried about it, then try to just drink a cup (8 ounces) every hour...set a timer to remind you, that way you know you're getting your 8 glasses in slowly and surely...just an idea...Good luck -Tammy

Meg, it would be very hard for you to die from water intake. I drink close to a gallon a day. That particular lady drank GALLONS of water in a short amount of time and couldn't go to the bathroom. It created many problems in her body wh/ caused the death.

I know it sounds like a stupid question but it actually something I fear. I read in the paper awhile ago a radio station had a drinking contest for water. And the girl died b/c of it since she drank to much water and it diluted her blood to much. Which is one of my fears when drinking water. I will be on role of drinking water and then I will all of a sudden stop thinking what if I am drinking to much in to short of a time.

So I was wondering if anyone knew so that maybe then I will be able to get my 8 glasses in again without the fear and maybe even more glasses.
