Ha ha, I'm feeling the pains of everyone, lol! Since I've just quit breastfeeding, my body is still trying to regulate my periods. So for about the last 2 (yes TWO!!) weeks I've been pms-ing. I've been trying not to raid the pantry, keep my hormones in check, fight fatigue, deal with skin of a 14 year old, etc (makes me wonder why I quit bf-ing, LOL!). Well, I FINALLY got my TOM this morning. I felt like all I wanted to do was curl up into a little ball and hide from the intense pain. But instead I took 2 aleve and FORCED myself on the treadmill. And let me say, I'm SO glad I did. I feel SOOOO much better now!! I mean it was really REALLY hard to exersize, but once I started it wasn't too bad. I know they say that exersize makes the cramps go away, I just never really beleived it. I mean, who the heck wants to exersize when you're SOOO tired you feel like you're sleep walking. Well, I figured it couldn't hurt, and I love that rush of energy I get from cardio, so like I said....I FORCED myself. And I think thats what it comes down to sometimes....like Nike....just do it!

ugh, I just went through this last week. A few days before it starts I get grouchy, bad skin, ALWAYS tired, hungry, and gain about 1 to 4 pounds. Then of course during it all of the above continues to happen, but with cravings. I have considered getting on something, that first day I start my head is even cloudy feeling, like I can not focus. Haven't been on any kind of birth control in two years, my husband got snipped, and it keeps getting worse.
Of course exercise is pretty much out the door since you are so wore out. But, if you manage to handle the cravings as best you can you usually lose the extra weight a day or two after it is over.
I really like the idea of eating the chocolate one at a time slowly. the chocolate is my big problem.
During this time time, no scale and no measuring. Nice to hear I am not the only one.

Ugh...I hear you. I crave greasy, salty foods during and pre-TOM.

My lifesaver has been pumpkin seeds in the shell. You can't eat them fast...so I can crunch and munch for a long time without doing too much damange. And other than the sodium, they are a healthy snack with protein and fiber.

1/2 c. seeds in the shell only has about 150 cal.

I like the chocolate chips one at a time idea, too.

I got sooo discouraged last week. I'd gained back a pound and 1/2. I took it out on my family all weekend. I didn't realize it was that time because I'm starting through menopause and I was just getting hot flashes instead of bleeding. I am feeling so much better today and when I weighed in I lost the extra plus a pound.
My husband tried to console me by saying "at least your less than you were last month at this time" :)
At least he tried emoticon

Hey, I am glad to hear I am not the only one that could eat the fridge pre-TOM. I am due to start tomorrow, and this weekend has been rough. I bought some ff vanilla frozen yogurt and hershey's syrup. It's good for a choc fix with no fat. Also, the cramping, bloating, and moodiness seems to be held at bay by taking calcium/magnesium/zinc pills. My MIL told me about it (yes, I was really moody), and I don't know why, but it works for me.

I always gain water weight the week before my period. Today I had to take a nap, I am just feeling so run down. I just found out it is my period that is making me so tired. It always seems to mess me up.

I am with you girls I have super bad periods and it's soo hard not to indulge! I actually find that working out helps alleviate my cramps, but that's after I struggle to peel myself off the couch and get to the gym! I really need to stop myself from getting on the scale during TOM, too, because its just too much of a downer!

My DH and I have been trying to get preggers for a little over three years now so I don't take "the pill" I take fertility meds! I swear it's like the TOM on steroids. Not only do I have my own hormones rushing through my veins, I have an extra 150mg(currently) to keep them company! I don't like sweets but I binge of everything I can shove in my face! For me now that I have realized what I do during that TOM I just try and stop myself before I order dessert... "Do I really want that or is it hormones?" For me mind over matter works, but I like the Jello idea!

It's a toughie, huh, ladies? My dr. adjusted my pill in November and I've been struggling ever since. I start a new pill this week and hopefully things will stabilize. I've been up in weight from 2.5 - 10 lbs in the past 3 months... it fluctuates like crazy each day. I've been good about exercise and making wise choices when I eat... and those HUNGRY days? I just eat a little more -- more good protein, more good carbs and fortunately that gets me through. I am not too much of a sweets person... my downfall is the salty, fried goodies and usually, I just leave them at the grocery store.

Even with the big jumps in the scale in the past 3 months, but clothes are looser so I am trying to focus on that. Let's hang tough... we can do this!

Dory, glad you are feeling better today. A house full of kids AND T.O.M. is enough to send anyone to the pantry. Sorry, to hear you may have to have the surgery both Yasmin and YAZ slowed my cycles significantly (3-4 light days).

Can't thank you all enough! I am back on track today - I will definately try the mini chocolate treats, eaten slowly, to see if that will help. I think that it didn't help that we had some snow days mixed in and all of the kids and all of their friends were in the house making me insane :-)

I am taking Yasmin - which I think is close to the same thing as Yaz - but still getting bad periods - so I do plan on looking into the surgery - thanks for helping me in the mean time !

I manage my chocolate in the same way except it's 10 dark chocolate M&Ms eaten 1 at a time - it's amazing that that's all it takes to full satisfy the craving.
I thought it took the whole bag!!!!

I actually do pretty good eating wise, but I just have no energy to workout, so its typically the only couple days that slack off during the whole month. And I have figured out that my chocolate craving is fulfilled by a hand full of chocolate chips eaten one at a time, very slowly. So I get to eat chocolate for the better part of a half hour but its less then 100 calories.

Yes, I have the same problem and sometimes I can fight it by getting away from the house and food. A lot of times I've given in (especially for chocolate). I really crave chocolate milk heavily during that time.

Teresa, bcps seem to affect different women in different ways. I've taken some that have caused big weight gains and had someone else taking the same one and didn't gain a pound. I am now taking YAZ wh/ has the water pill built in and I didn't gain any weight taking it...thank goodness.

hey ladies! I call it "my friend" because my boyfriend doesn't like when I talk about it!! But anyways, I have found that once you get it, just take your advil or whatever you use in the morning, and take it every 4-6 hours, so your cramps never get too unbearable. Also, drink a lot of water, drink tea, and eat sugar free jello. I know how you feel, all I want to do is EAT!! But if I drink a lot of calorie free beverages, and eat sugar free jello (only 10 cal or so), i feel full without packing on the pounds.

Also, don't weigh yourself during this time. You are going to have more water weight, and you are just going to get discouraged.

As for being on the pill making you gain weight, I don't think it really does. Maybe 3-5 lbs, but not much.

Just try and start your workout, and if you can't do the usual, just take it low impact or go for a walk!!

I am having my "friend" right now, so I feel your pain!! But you can do it!! I know it is hard, but just stick it out for the week and you will feel so much better when it is over!!

Good luck ladies!!

If you fall down...get right back up and keep trying. Do NOT lose sight of those goals!!!

I hear ya! That's funny, because i was just about to post a similar Q! I am also on a low dose pill, and I get super hungry for that week! I also get bad cramps and can't bring myself to get to the gym. I eat very healthy the other 3 weeks of the month, but when that week rolls around I too eat everything in sight almost! NOT GOOD ~ I mean talk about binging! I try so hard to just nibble here and there, I don't deprive myself of what I want, I just do it in moderation. One thing that I was curious about also was, does the pill REALLY make women gain that much weight?

I have placed my order with the universe today, and I am hungry for SUCCESS!

Wondering if anyone else is having trouble when their period rolls around. I seem to do great for three weeks and then PMS hits and I literally eat the whole pantry!! I can eat well - and exercise with little effort until that T.O.M. - I am even on a low dose pill to try to alleviate the symptoms and heavy period - but it does not help much. I am considering a new laser procedure- but until then was wondering how you all deal with this?
Thanks
