emoticon Gang!

Stefi - I can definitely relate to the GS cookie dilema! We have them in the house, but I hid them from the kids and Hubby, and I keep forgetting they are there! Of course, everyone else has found them, but they are going MUCH slower than last year! I have had a grand total of 3 Thin Mints and 2 of the peanut butter sandwich ones. I'm pretty happy with that, because like you, the "old" me would have devoured a whole box!

Keep up the emoticon work everyone!

Stefipop, I can definately relate with you on the Girl Scout cookies! So far there haven't been any girl scouts around to sell their cookies to me (think I scared them off last year!!) -It's really a good thing for me though, don't know if I could have the strength to do what you did. Only Two? Way to Go!!!! -My best to all! -Tammy (oh, and my little brag was a walk for 30 minutes...know it's lame, and I'm a little behind all the big walkers out there, but for me, it was a pretty big step, one in the right direction!

Today, I only had 2 girl scout cookies. That may sound silly, but the old me would've eaten the whole box and then hidden the box in the bottom of the trash can. That's me no more!

Well, while I don't practice lent, this year I thought I would really challenge myself to give up something for 6 weeks ending at my daughters 1st birthday (Good Friday) so I have given up my one can of soda a day. This is huge for me since I am a Dr. Pepper junkie! Its been challenging since I really could use a caffeine boost since my kids have been keeping me up at night. But I am still going strong and I am almost half way done!

I have two brags today:

- I am currently wearing a pair of jeans that has not fit in two years. They're still a size 12/13, but that's a whole lot better than a 14/15.

- I babysat tonight for a little girl from my church, and not only was I better able to keep up with her (she's almost 2), I also resisted snacking at her house like I usually do. AND, when her parents came home, her mom told me that she and her husband had noticed I'd lost weight since the last time I'd kept the little girl.

So even though the babysitting completely messed up my schedule--I drank microscopic amounts of water today, and didn't get to eat dinner until after 9--today has been fantastic!

I have been trying not to weigh myself, because at times it is easy to get frustrated when you do not see a difference on the scale. I love this topic because it made me realize that I am seeing more definition in my arm muscles, and I feel great after working out. I think that I may be gaining some muscle! This is a great accomplishment for me! :-)

If you fall down...get right back up and keep trying. Do NOT lose sight of those goals!!!

I love this idea! -Everyone's input is so on-target as to how I feel, I just couldn't put it to words. I've been less winded lately, when doing my very low-impact aerobics...a little more energy, but there are times I swear I've lost at least five pounds, but the scale has not budged. So discouraging, but as someone said (and thanks for saying it!) -it shows that this truly is a lifestyle change and not just a simple lose weight program. I feel much better now.

Roxy - I highly agree with you! I think the non-scale victories are WAY more important than some silly number on a machine.

Congrats on the hiking!

For the last two weeks, I have avoided eating junk food when visiting with the child that I mentor (which is tough when we are going to places like the bowling alley which cater to junk food!).

I went on a hike with my husband last week and he was impressed with how much fitter I was than the last time we hiked the same trail. I was much less winded and more fun to hike with.

These non-scale victories are more important than the scale sometimes. It means that I am changing my lifestyle, not just trying to lose weight.

When on the treadmill:
when I first started working out it took just a few minutes and my heart rate was 150 plus now I have to jog some (not much yet) to get it to 150

The waist of my skirt that I got for Christmas is getting loose. I only lost 2 lbs. last week , but I can see little difference in my body. I am getting a little muscle in my arms from working out. My arms have been flabby for years. I am proud of that accomplishment.

EXCELLENT idea! You are very correct, that it is important to focus on ALL our little victories. That silly scale isn't always going to move the way we want, but if you are making better choices and following your plan, you WILL see small changes: inches lost, clothes fitting better, compliments from friends and just FEELING better!

Here's mine for this past weekend - I refuse to go out and spend a bunch of money on new clothes until I hit my goal weight. My son took one look at me yesterday and said, "Mom, you have GOT to get rid of those jeans. They are WAY to baggy and they look terrible."

HA! Those were my old "skinny" jeans that I haven't worn in YEARS.

I'll take THAT over some silly number on the scale any day!

I like this idea!! I can get real discouraged w/ my scale 1. because of me and 2. it is a dysfunctional scale. So....today I accomplished not buying a soda at a convenience store when I was thirsty. I bought a bottle of water!! It's the little things.

This may sound shallow but one of the things that keeps me going is when someone notices some of my healthy habits and says how hard it would be for them to do that. Like drinking my 8 glasses of water, or eating a healthy lunch.

I've lost a decent number of pounds but at this weight I don't notice any physical changes yet which is slightly annoying. which is why these little motivations help.

Hey this is a great idea.. I even get discouraged when it's as little as 2lbs... because the first time I was losing weight I was losing 10lbs the first week.. and about 3lbs every 2 days.. clearly it wasn't good for my body or else I would have kept it off and not gained it back.. but still it's a little disheartening to go a whole week and only lose 2lbs even though it's healthy.

Anyways I will post again later in the day but it's great still!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. As we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

So how many of us get discouraged when we don't see the numbers moving on the scale and then give up? I thought this would be a good place to post our progress when we need that mental boost to show our accomplishments when the scale is not one of them.
so did you ..
Drink all your water today?
Loose inches on your waist?
Put on clothes that haven't fit before?
Exercise longer this week?
Resist a temptation?

Let us know and be proud of the little stuff.
Remember weight loss is more like a marathon than a sprint.
