Hi all ~ Busy going through some old posts and getting some ideas about what we all like to discuss here. Pretty easy ~ travel! This topic was started quite some time ago, but was very popular with good reason. Not only are some fascinating places in the world mentioned, but why we loved these places. I really enjoyed reading many of these posts and would like to add more! I think many people will find the information interesting, possibly helpful, and it will help us find some common interests and maybe spark some new friendships.

One of the most interesting places I have visited is Vietnam. My husband and I traveled there in 2002. It was an incredible experience in many ways and especially moving due to the war.

What is one of the most interesting places you have been?

In all my travels around Europe and Asia, I've never felt the intense emotional connection that I feel in the historical sights I've visited in my own United States. I loved Jamestown, Virginia and Colonial Williamsburg. Then there are the Civil War battlefields that continue to move me everytime I'm able to visit one. I spent several solitary hours at the bridge at Bull Run just soaking in the feelings that came over me.

Egypt would be the most interesting place since it was so different from my world. Sort of scary but so much history.

I'd say the most interesting for me was Jerusalem

Been to many beautiful places, but my favourite is right here at home in Scotland - looking over to Isle of Arran from Ayr beach, the sunsets are wonderful.

In March I went on my first trip to the UK, in 6 weeks I visited London, the South of Ireland, Cornwall, Scotland, Liverpool & Paris.

I fell in love with Killarney in Ireland and I would love to go there again. Cornwall was great, I visited the towns that my ancestors were either born in, married in or died in. I also got to meet a 7th cousin and a 3rd cousin, who I only met via email this year.

I would like to have spent more time in Scotland too.

over the summer my husband and I did a cruise. One of our stops was to Turkey and we did an excursion to Mary's house as well as Ephesus. That was amazing.

I spent three weeks in Italy last summer and it was amazing. The people are amazingly friendly and welcoming and I had such a wonderful time. Florence was my favorite part. I hope to go back in a few years (once I've saved up enough money)

I would say Cambodia is the most interesting place I've visited. Mostly because it's surprised me with it's simplicity and it's lovely people. Also because I became so aware...and learned to much from the terrors it's people have been through.

A close second would be Bali, Indonesia. That place is just close to my heart...for so many reasons.

I'm not always most drawn to places that are the most "interesting". However, I do think Barcelona is both amazing and by-the-books "interesting". It's got great food, architecture, beaches, history, culture, entertainment, day trip options... basically it has everything you could want in an "interesting" vacation.

Stats: Female, 5'4", 28 years old.

I really loved Paris, which I recently visited. There is still many places I'd like to see but I guess personally the most interesting place was Sao Paulo, Brazil because I got to meet my cousins, aunt and uncle for the first time. I also got to see the old houses my father used to live in.

I've been a lot of places including Canada and Europe, but i gotta say Puerto Rico has been by far the best. Maybe it was because I was older and could appreciate it more than when I went to Europe but my experiences there were INCREDIBLE and unmatched. I cant wait to go back!

For me Mumbai was an amazing experience. The Elephanta caves were well worth the trek, and visiting the home where Gandhi lived was quite an experience. Certainly bad things to see, but made me appreciate what we have at home all that much more.

Very hard to pin down one place, but I think maybe Piriapolis, Uruguay qualifies as 'most interesting' for me -- though I'd read a mystery novel set there (one of my favorite pre-trip activities), everything about it was fascinating.

My favorite place that I've been is Cambodia. I studied abroad there the summer after my junior year for 2 months and took classes at a library inside of a monastery in Siem Reap. We were only a couple of miles from the Angkorean temples and it was so beautiful and awe-inspiring. Also, the people of Cambodia are amazing people despite all of the hardships they have faced.

The most interesting place for me was when I was back-packing through Europe. We stopped in Prague and aside from being a beautiful place, it has so much history and I was brought to tears with the stories about how the Jewish people were treated.

It was interesting, enlightening and heart-breaking all at the same time!

My favorite destination has been Koh Chang, Thailand. It's a small island off the Thai coast. The water was beautiful and the islanders were so kind! I stayed on this little beachfront property for $30/night! We rented mopeds and drove around the island, taking in the culture and scenery! Just gorgeous!! Want to go back SO bad! emoticon

I will always be in love with the cities in Basque Country (France and Spain, but I'll always love France more, since my family is from that area). Some of the cities I'd suggest there are San Sebastian (Donostia) in Spain and St. Jean de Luz in France.

I can't wait to get my butt over to Marrakech, Cairo and Istanbul, though!

Two places stand out as the most interesting. We stayed outside village in France on the estate of a castle--pretty much out in the middle of nowhere. The other was in Tuscany where we stayed in the manor house that was situated on a hilltop. In both places, my family was able to enjoy the culture of the region and wonderful dining experiences!

I'd say Borneo is the most interesting place I've been. It's got the largest flower in the world (the Rafflesia), ancient rain forests, steamy jungles, an astonishing variety of marine fish and other underwater critters, a really high mountain, lots of tiny islands, class 5 rapids (and easier ones for folks like me :-), unusual animals like orangutans and synchronized fireflies, fascinating cultures, friendly people, and cats with stubby tails.

I would have to say Assisi, Italy. It's a little town on the side of a mountian. On the top of the mountian is this old medival castle which you can walk through. I was so excited going through it I actually fell down some stairs and twisted my ankle. I had to have it wrapped for the rest of the trip. It is an amazing place and I can't wait to go back!

The flowers that are the background on my page were growing outside of the castle

I think my all time favorite would be Rome. I love that although it is a modern city the past still runs throughout the heart of the city with all of the amazing buildings and history. Also when I was there everything seemed to be at my fingertips whether it was shopping, eating or just wandering around it all seemed to be a short walk away. The people were so nice and the food was fresh and wonderful. I actually lost three pounds on that trip...maybe I should move there. haha

"And though I may not
know the answers
I can finally say I'm free.
And if the questions
lead me here,
Then
I am who I was born
to be."

I also loved Costa Rica, Rome, Ireland, Holland, and Spain. Every place I visit feels like my favorite while I am there. I worked in England. I did volunteer work in England, Scotland, Ireland. I took my children back to 9 countries in Europe in '85. We bought a camper and sold it when we were out of money and flew home. Traveling with an open ended plane ticket is very liberating and good for the soul. I loved the freedom of no time schedule. :-)

Lord, I love thee
For the music of the waters, For the wild wind's melody, For the arch of heaven's splendor, For the secrets of the sea. For the wonders of the night-time, For the glory of the day, For the blessed joy of living, Lord I love thee. For the pearly flush of rose leaves, For the flower scented air, For the trembling hush of dawning, For all the beauty of everywhere, For the joy of friendly faces, For the graces of each day, For the hope of winning heaven, Lord I love thee.
