This is me 'still'

I posted about this very same thing to this particular forum last year but what's new is I'm going to do a few races to get me motivated.

For now I Run and then I Walk Jog, Walk Jog, Walk some hills, do a bit more running.. this is getting easier. Do a little sprint here another walk.. struggling to save my knees for the long haul. I've gotten into hiking lately and my knees seem to be getting better. I took a really long hiatus for the past 2 and a half years being very sedentary as I was in school. I finally graduated this May.

My thing now is trying to protect my knees and get this weight off so that I can possibly run
again..

I hate this particular aspect of menopause.. Oh the belly roll !

Hello Going2bthin,

Good start! Just be careful to not push too hard too soon, or, you'll set yourself up for injury. So, how much further around the track can you go, now, without stopping?

I coach a walk/run method to develop new runners. It's very effective and helps prevent injury. My team also incorporates 4-6 weeks of track workouts for speed intervals every season.

Putting one foot in front of the other in relatively rapid cadence makes you a runner at any pace! Please let me know how I can help you progress and improve.

Hello, Fitwithin,

What does your training plan look like now for running a 5K? Let's see if we can help you both be able to make it straight through and improve your time. I need to know what your entire weekly plan looks like in order to help.

Before you run a half marathon, you need to be able to do a 10K. That might seem obvious, but, you'd be surprised how many people I get every year who want to do one without building a good base.

About your knees, there are strengthening exercises you can do to help. Plus, please check with your doctor to see if certain supplements may help with joint health.

Slow and steady does get it done; let's focus on quality workouts, too.

I still haven't been able to run an entire 5k without stopping. This is one goal and I want to improve on my time. I'm so slow, however little by little I'm shaving off time. I want to run a half marathon, but I need to lose so more weight. When I do go out for a run my knees just aches for a day in half afterwards. I look at it this way, slow and steady still gets it done.

Progress may be slow, but it happens!

I want to run a 5K on October 4th so on Jul 4th, after years of wanting to be a runner, I became a runner. I was walking at the HS track and decided to run one minute to see how that went. When I finished, I thought, "Well, that's not too bad. I can do more." So I ran one lap on the track which is 1/4 mile. Took 4 minutes. I decided that was enough to make me a runner. Gotta start somewhere, right?

I have my first half marathon in 18 days! And my stupid behind signed up for a TRAIL half marathon. What is this mess? Hahaha.

But I just completed a 10K which I ran the entire way (13:42/mile), including two monstrous hills! :)

Going for 8-10 miles tonight. We will see how this works out! :D Hahaha.

Yayyyyy fat runners! :P

Hi Everyone,
New to the team. I've been on SP for a while, using the trackers. Finally decided to just suck it up and post on a team board again. Hi!

This year's goal:
-Increase endurance using chi running techniques.
-Run most if not all of the 8K in April I just signed up for
-Enjoy the mud run in May as always; maybe run between more of the obstacles this year, finally.
-Remember on that the days I don't wanna, there are some who can't.

Here's to ya.

Hi, All! Yeesh, it has been a while since I've been here; much happened.

I wish I could just "like" everyone's posts on your 2014 goals. Please take this as a huge high five. :)

2013 was a very busy year for me, but, not one of my best running or triathlon seasons. All the same, I qualified for the USAT Age Group Olympic Distance National Championship, held in Milwaukee, and again for 2014. So, by sheer luck, something went right.

So far in 2014, I'm at the top of my age group for the local distance challenge, a series of 6 races ending with the Austin Marathon/Half Marathon. I'm doing the half track, so, ending with the HM...and, I've been slower than last year! I suppose the advantage of being in my age group is that there are fewer of us, LOL!

Besides the nationals, I've planned only 1 other Tri. My coach has other plans for me, as usual. I just need a break.

Reading all your fabulous posts gives encouragement to keep on going.

Popping back in here reminds me that I missed all of you and I need a life (been far too busy at work)!

Good job, everyone, and keep working toward your goals. You know

I am going to run more efficiently therefore have better times. I have already seen the difference. I thought I would hate the treadmill but it has taught me how I should feel running. My form has improved a lot!

I enjoy reading everyone's goals. One of my goals is to run an event/race every month in 2014. Tomorrow is the first, and it's a 5K. Another goal is to run/walk a half marathon this year...maybe as early as May. I'm currently reading Marathoning for Mortals, and I've already done the distance but not recently.

I wanna run a half marathon by next year. Aka by Fall of 2014. I'm giving myself a month or two to get back on track then I'm gonna train for it with a friend who has the same goal. Having the same goal as someone close to me always seems to help me, A LOT.

I'd like to do the RNR in Dublin, as well, as an international destination run.

It doesn't matter that you walked it, you finished. Just be consistent with your training, and make sure to allow for adequate rest and recovery. Rest is extremely important for endurance athletes.

Take your running progress in 5K chunks - when you can run a 5K all the way, shoot for 10K, etc. When you break the half marathon into small, 5K chunks, it's easier to tackle.

My long term goal is to run the Rock N Roll half marathon in Dublin in August 2014. I did it this year but walked most of it, now that I know I can handle the distance the goal is to build up the running so I run most - if not all - of it next year.

Short term I am trying to get to my 5k and find the courage to do a Parkrun.

I'm not running right now since I am in my third trimester. However, once the doctor clears me after delivery, I will start training for the St. Leo's race that I have done the last two years. It is in March, so I will most likely stick with the 5K.

St. Leo's 5k: 3/17/12 51:07
3/19/16 45:23
FCLEMF 5K: 4/28/12 50:45 (CORRECTING TYPO- HAD IT AS 40 INSTEAD OF 50!)
Race for the Cure 5k: 5/5/12 61:51
St. Leo's 10k: 3/16/13 1:34:44 PR for mile pace!
St. Leo's 10k: 3/21/15 1:42:57

Goal: Run 1 mile straight! 4/24/12
Goal: Run 1 mile in 15 minutes! 8/22/12

Consistently drink 8 cups of water per day.

120 minutes of exercise per week.

Hey, gang, those sound like AWESOME goals!

Stay39, T-day is what I call Turkey Day or Thanksgiving Day. Either way, that T fits and is just so much shorter to type. LOL

And since I'm counting down to my 10K Turkey Trot, it fits nicely into T-minus whatever today happens to be.

What is T- day? My goal this year was to run at least 2 5ks. So far I have already done that and am scheduled to run 2 more before the year is over. My goal for 2014 will be to be able to run (or at least run/walk) a 10k! emoticon
