Heavy cleaning, we're getting ready to paint the bedroom soon so we're down sizing. I will be giving things to the Lupus foundation.

Hi everyone. I haven't been around much for a number of reasons. I've been very busy with everything from car problems to painting my house and getting ready for an open house to show off the work that was done to our bathroom. Well, its all behind me. And now we are entering the football season. In the midst of it all I have been having trouble with both diet and exercise. And my weight keeps going up. Its all so very frustrating! But, I've been thinking and reading and I think I have a plan to deal with the issues I've been struggling with. We'll see if it works. A quick summery follows.

1. Drink V8 juice to get some extra vegetable servings and fiber.
2. Exercise 3-4 times a week or more as my schedule allows. Try for 1 hour sessions.
3. Keep my calories down and track.
4. Use the Weight Watchers trick of seeing many low calorie vegetables and fruits as 0 point and not necessarily count them. But, keep track of fruit vegetable servings on my quick tracker.

I'm into C25K now. The walk/run maintenance for the 5K. I'm doing it, but it's harder now the running is longer. But I'm doing it so far. I jog, not run

Good Morning Ladies, I am so sorry that I have been MIA for so long..I have been working out and have lost back down to 133.6 so I am trying..My DH got Wii fit for my birthday and I love it..I work out at least an hour a day on it and then get 2 hours of walking in...Have not been so great with my free weights but Wii Fit has some strength exercises that are really good..anyway.hugs to all of you I have noticed you are all doing great..Hugs again Jeanine

Two weeks ago I joined a gym and hired a personal trainer whom I work out with twice a week, and then I lift weights one day on my own. i try to get in 30 minutes of interval cardio work on the other 4 days, and at least 20 minutes of cardio on the days I strength train. I've been doing this for the last 2 weeks. I am tired, but I feel fantastic even if I am sore. Today was strength training day and I worked out hard!

Hi Cindi, Wow, you have a very busy schedule. But it shows me that it is not impossible to make room for exercise. I am going to try to exercise more on my 3 day weekends and not stress about my busy work days. I just have to take advantage of my 2 slower work days and not get lazy about getting some form of exercise in.

Hello!
Exercise has been very hard for me since I started my current job which is 3 hours from home. I stay halfway during the week and still travel 1 hour. My days are long 10 to 12 and sometimes 14 hour days. One day I get back to where I stay at 11:00 and I get up every morning at 5:00-5:30 to get ready and leave for work. Not much time to exercise! Because of this schedule I work 4 days and have a 3 day weekend. When I was losing weight before getting this job I was unemployed and was exercising 2+ hours a day between all my walks. My work is such that I sit with clients all day with little walking and I work on paperwork during my lunch.

What I've done is on my two long days I just don't plan on much exercise. If I have time and can I will walk around Walmart before I go to where I stay. On my one short day I walk after work at a park near where I stay. That will work until winter. My other plan in going to the mall and walking but I tend to also want to check out sales and that isn't very good exercise. The 4th day I am driving home and sometimes get home early enough to do a quick walk. Then on my weekends, I walk all I can! I park as far as the mall as I can, anything to get more steps in along with my walks!

Overall I've had to accept that I can't walk as much as I did when I wasn't working. I am now working on adding in some other exercises before I go to bed at night. I got the Biggest Loser 30 Day Jump Start mostly for the exercise plan to help me. I've noticed reading different success stories in magazines like Prevention that many of these stories are about people like us who are busy and can't always do a lot of exercise everyday. Many times they are told to do 3-4 days of cardio and do strength or toning on other days, so that's what I'm trying to do.

Thank you so much for replying. I don't work on Fridays so I got up and exercised today. Exercise always makes me feel better.

I was doing just fine a couple years ago when I was getting up early and exercising before work. The second I heard the "sleep is as important" report I seriously ditched my exercise plan! I used it as a total excuse to not get up early. I am the queen of excuses!
I am going to take your advice and aim for 15 minute workouts. That would be a start. Maybe shorter workouts when I work and longer ones on my 3 day weekends.
I know the studies that were done on meds and exercise for depression and exercise can be equally effective. I know that is true for me. It really "ups" my moods.

I'm not working now for 4 yrs, but when I was, with my job as a Dental Tech, I was on my feet anywhere from 10 to 12 hrs a day, 2X a week & the rest of the week 9 hours, & I worked on Sat. I was in my 50's. I was dead at the end of the day. So i woke up 30 minutes early most days & did some exercises. Ride my stationary bike or lift weights or did step. I figured waking up 30 min. earlier is not much & I felt great. It gave me energy to cope /w/ the day. I had this job for 15 yrs. so for that time I did execise. Plus my job was not far from where I lived so everyday I walked to work & back.
I know sleep is important, but actually all you need is to exercise 15 minutes every morning at least & it will make a difference. I worked all my life until 4 yrs. ago & always tried to exercise.
I gained weight because I have a underactive thyroid & my metabolism is low. My meds help me, but it's hard for me to lose, so I have to keep active, otherwise I gain weight.
But if I were U, I'd try to get up 20 min early, & warm up 5 min. & do some exercises for 15 min.
I bet U will feel more energy, once U start.
Something is better than doing nothing at all.

You can do this. Give it a go, help yourself out & no excuses, just do it. You'll be glad U did.

I am struggling with exercising. I start off with good intentions but I can't seem to follow through. After work I am too tired and before work I need the sleep. I use to exercise pretty regular in the morning until the study came out that sleep is just as important. Since then I have struggled with sticking to a routine. I know weightloss and maintenance is not possible without exercising.
Anyone else have similar issues and you were able to overcome it?

Hi everyone else. I've been doing rather badly when it comes to steps. Trying to get control and having to change some of my expectations of myself. We are also trying to get our house ready to have an open house for church members to see the work that has been done last winter. Which means we are trying to paint and reorganize our house in short order. Pretty stressful when I'm trying to work away from home at the same time! So, on weekends I'm usually stressing about getting things done.

Okay this wasn't suppose to turn into a whine, but it did.

Thank-you Dee, I finally know why my scale is not working with all my exercise....I have been blind to my portion control and splurged on the new McDonald's Mushroom & Swiss Angus burger...I had no idea it could have so many calories...I guess I am just lucky the scale was not going up...LOL Ok from now on I am back to measuring...at least until this scale starts moving down again...hugs,Jeanine

Hi. I have to get to bed, but wanted to check in. I had Relay for Life last night. Stayed up all night walking. I got about 30,000 steps in between last night and today. Got some great walks in while visiting family over the 4th. I learned that maybe when I get frustrated I just need to go out for a walk instead of feeling more and more frustrated.

I've been really working hard with these Biggest Loser DVD's; especially the Bootcamp one. It's a great circuit training work-out. It must be working, though, because I saw 147 on the scale today, and I haven't seen that in about 10 years! Yeah!!!!! emoticon Donna

Awesome Lee! I managed the 40 min Turbo Sculpt. Sometimes I don't exercise on Thurs. because it's family dinner night and I'm fixin' dinner for about 7-9 people, depending on who shows up. I'm slowly increasing my minutes of exercise. Today is more of an oink than quack. I ate too much. Yuk.

6 set s this 4th week now I had to take a rest after the 5th set & then continued the 6th

Continued to walk: 65 more min.

Hey Dee,

I know what you mean, I started to laugh when I read you'll be waddling. I'll have to start calling you duck. You really gave yourself a workout that & the treadmill. emoticon A few more times & you won't be sore anymore, until then, your nickname is duck, until you tell me, I'm not waddling anymore!

I had to do errands today & was walking all over, I kept at a good pace for 3 hours.
I park far away all the time so I walk, because I know when I get home, I'm to tired to do a workout.
This counts, I even held my stomach in, put my bag in the trunck, & money in my pockets, so I could move my arms.

Have a great weekend, tomorrow is Friday.

It is very effective. I did 10 of Turbo Sculpt yesterday after the treadmill and my muscles were aching all today. So today I did the whole 40 minute workout. I'll probably be waddling tomorrow. LOL!

I like Turbo jam , it's an intense workout & very effective. I did it the other day. I should do it more often. I always do kickboxing on my own from moves I learned from DVD & from SP

Hi everyone. This week I have a fun report.

Friday: Friday began our town's Berry Pepper Celebration. If you want to know what a Berry Pepper is go to www.creighton.org/berrypepper.cfm . On Friday we went a garage sale and got a bike for $10. I'd told my husband I wanted one and he found it for me. Said it was his Father's Day present to give it to me. lol.

Saturday: My son and I rode on the bike ride to a town about 8-10 miles from us. Then we rode back. I hadn't been on a bike for a few years and I was sure sore, but I made the entire 15-20 miles. I am pretty proud of myself. Essentially about 2 hours of biking. Then I did some walks during the day plus riding around town.

Sunday: Remains to be seen. My husband got his bike fixed yesterday and so he is riding everywhere around town he can. I didn't go to the chicken dinner at the Legion which is where he just rode his bike to. Later is a Rib Fest. Its and all you can eat rib cook-off. Then you judge the ribs to see which cook wins.

Not real happy with my weight right now. I'm trying to get focused starting today. Which is why I didn't go to the Chicken Dinner and I think I'm going to sit out the Rib Fest.

Hi,
Thanks Dee, I'm enjoying it. This was a bad week though, it's been raining everyday, I should say it's been pouring. This morning also, then the sun came out around 2:00 PM, & I was out doing my errands,
so I didn't get the chance today to run. Now the weekend here gain suppose to rain. I hate this. I want to keep my schedule. I have to see maybe later on this evening after I eat dinner. I might .

Did 60 minutes of a full body workout along with 30 minutes of cardio . Burned 1400 calories already and the day is not over. Wednesday is PX90 day. If you snooze you loose.. Everyone be sure to stretch at least 25-45 minutes after a good!!!!!!!!!!!!! workout. I am a life coach certified effective today. I want to help as many folks on the planet

I'm enjoying the "Running/Walking Zone Team". It's a 8 week program. I started this Monday & did for 2 days. Today was not nice weather, it has been raining hard all day, so I decided to go food shopping & get it over with, & other errands done also. I didn't even workout today, I might later, but I doubt it. I just walked Rocky, but not long, because of the rain.

Oh, back to the team: The challenge is 20 minutes, 3 X a week & I have to, warm up 5 minutes, then power walk for 4 minutes, then jog for 1 minute. This format is repeated 4 X, then slow down & stretch. So after I was completed, I kept walking only & did other exercises.
I believe each week the walking & jogging will increase. This is for the 1st week.
After the 8 weeks is over, there is a maintance C25K,
when I'm finished /w/ this 5K, walk/jog program.

The team leader is a trainer & she said to walk & jog the amount of time she stated,I will gradually be increased. By the end of the 8 weeks I should, I hope? Run for 4 minutes straight & walk 2 min,and will then join the maintance program.

Also i joined the "Quickfire Challenge" . This one is great. The CO-leader,posts, daily. 2 or 3 different exercise to do throughout the day & you post then in your fitness tracker.
I belong to many teams, I went over board. They all seemed like fun. But the 2 I just mentioned to you are becoming favorites. There're all different age groups doing these exercises.

If you want to check it out go on my page & click on the teams I mentioned & check them out.
You can even just do the walk/run on your own even.
if you don't have time to join another team.
I could let you know what to do. I wouldn't mind at all.

Hi everyone,
Hey Jeanine, I haven't been around lately also.
My computer was down & trying to catch up for the past couple of weeks. I had so much mail.

I joined a few new teams, but I am enjoying the one,
"Running/walking Zone" I joined the "8 week Spark
Your Way to a 5K". Tomorrow will be my 3rd day.
It's "Walking for 4 minutes, then jog for 1 minute
It's repeated for 20 minutes. As the weeks go on the time will be longer. After the 20 min. I just keep walking & do my regular routine of exercises.

After a long, cold winter, summer is finally here in Calgary. I have taken the opportunity to get out and about on my bike.

We have an excellent bike path set-up here in Calgary, and most days I head down to the river paths. It's about a 3 minute bike ride on a quiet city street, and then I'm down by the river, and it's hard to believe I'm in a big city.

I normally pedal for an hour or so, and although it's exercise, it doesn't feel like it. My kind of exercise!
