We ended up going to town today instead of yesterday. Just staying at DS's. DH went to get a hair cut. So far that is it.

Glenna,
It was called the No work gardening book. She used straw to put between rows, and around plants. She said it helped keep the weeds down, and kept the plants moister. I used it for a couple of years, then I quit gardening. It did work, and was much easier to keep garden work to a minimum.
didn't look so pretty as nicely cleaned rows and gardens.
Good job on all that juice.

Jan, never read that book.

Karen, supposed to be 83 and rainy and humid here today.

I have never been to a seminar like that. I know they are offered though, different ones too.

Nina, hope they find those fugitives. Did you find anything fun at town?

Hi ladies

Cloudy and sunny with high in the high 80's today.

So far the fugitives have not been caught.

We have to go to Show Low today. DS called and his jeep is in the shop and he only has his pick up to do things in. He asked if he could use our pick up so that the two of them can do what they have to in the business and pick up kids from school.

I will follow DH in the car. Thank goodness it has air conditioning. The smoke was bad here this morning as I could smell it in the laundry room. I for got and left the window open in there, so when I opened the door I knew immediately I could not open the house up. Sure be glad when this one burns out. If the wind comes up it blows it away from us.

Not sure what is for supper tonight.

Will check in later

Nina

Patty – a pillow would be really cute for fall decoration.

Karen – I like the Taste of Home Magazines. I got last years in the mail.

Glenna – wow you sure have been busy. You are so good to your mother.

Jan – enjoy those cookbooks

Glenna, Thanks for putting up a new question for us. You'll enjoy that tomato juice this winter - memories of the wonderful tomato crop. emoticon

Nina, Have you heard if those fugitives were captured?

Patty, What a cute pillow that will be!

Karen, I think a lot of us like cookbooks and cooking magazines and blogs. There's always yet another new recipe out there. I enjoy watching some sites where they demonstrate how to make something.

Have any of you read the Carla Emory book? I found it at our public library where we went a lot when my kids were toddlers and then learning to read and so on. There's a revised edition and I used to have it but I'll need to look. All kinds of things like how to make bread to how to butcher and garden I think.

I also have a hand written recipe book that was my aunt's or maybe her mother's too.

Good night all.

Jan

emoticon I put a new question up. Check it out!!!

Good evening ladies,

How did your day go? Mine was ok. I worked on mom's living room windows (washed) and put up different curtains. so they look nice.

I canned tomato juice this afternoon. I had 5 quarts and 1 pint. My tomatoes did exceptionally well this year.

Patty, I always enjoy your posts. I had one of Helen and Scott Nearing's books. they were unique people, but I admired them too. Was Ruth Stout's method what they call the lasagna method? Where you layer newspapers, manure, compost, and mulch? Or maybe just plant under lots of mulch. I remember reading about it, but I am not sure now. I love that fall pillow you are going to make! So cute!

Jan, How did your day go? I like the Betty Crocker cookbook too. I have spent hours looking at it.

Nina, It is getting pretty dry here. We need rain, too. They say we might get some on Thursday, but the percentage isn't very high. Funny how it has been so wet all summer and now it is just as dry.

karen, I always liked the Taste of Home magazines, too. I used to look and look at them!

Vicki, How are you doing?

Iris, We miss you, too.

Well goodnight everyone. "See" you tomorrow.

In the 60's, I had one cookbook. The Betty Crocker. I had a few recipe booklets. Then i purchased a few cookbooks from local groups. It is fun to look at them. Rolland's sister in law gifted me with Taste of Home Light magazine in the 90's. I loved it then & still do. We are warming up to the 90's. I imagine Patty will warm up, too. I went to a presentation at senior center. It was on legal forms such as wills. It was presented by LEGAL AID. Hope I am able to get my will & POA completed. Nina, did they get the guys yet?

Good morning Girls,
We went to town this morning for groceries. I found everything I wanted except for the self rising cornmeal. Couldn't find that at Aldi's.

Will have to check out local stores when I go visit the cousins this week.

We got cabbage and carrots, peaches and nectarines, so should be set for a few days, oh and corn on the cob. We eat a lot of that when it is in season. By the time we are sick of it, they don't sell it anymore...lol

steak, corn on the cob, grape tomatoes and baby cukes for supper

I had a grilled chicken sandwich at BK.

I probably got in 1/2 mile walking in the stores today.

Hubby and I are both pooped out.

It is 69 here, sunshine and a bit humid.

Jan, I love that truck...awesome picture.

Rain and more rain for you.
How is your hubby feeling?
I have some vintage smaller cookbooks put out by a friend of my Gramma's, from the Detroit free press.
Here are a couple of pics from online.

I have 5 or more of them. Gramma's friend, Myrtle Calkins, wrote a column for the paper, maybe a cooking column, thus the cookbooks. They are really cool. Smaller, like 5x7 cookbooks.

Glenna, I never made juice from the tomatoes. Thank you for the rooster. emoticon
One year I was given some grapes, and I used the idea from the Nearings, on juice. Put grapes in the bottom of the jar, top with boiling water, maybe sugar too, and seal. Let sit a while. They made the best juice. It was Scott and Helen Nearing from Maine. They had some strange ideas, but they sure did farm well. I had a few of their books when I was gardening.
I also had a book by Ruth Stout on No work garden method...it worked really well too.

Nina, I agree with your hubby, no staying home alone until they are caught. Have a fun day out.

OK Girls, I have chatted on here too long. Another storey instead of a little note.

Have a good day all.

Hi to Karen, Vicki and Iris.

Good Morning

It is cloudy here but they say no rain. The wind is stiring so that may be why. It will just blow out of here. High 80's today. At least that is not the 90's.

So far as I know we are going to Show Low. I was going to stay home but DH said not until he finds out if the fugitives are caught.

Jan – yes I have some old cook books. It is either Home and Gardens or Betty Crocker. I have a real old one that was my DMIL's. One of those fat ones with the index labels on the pages.

Good morning everyone,

Jan, I have a re-print of that old Betty Crocker cookbook. Mom got it for my birthday one year. I love it, too. I have always liked BC cookbooks. The Farm Journal ones are really good too.

The sun is shining here. It cools off at night so it is sure a lot better sleeping.

Just thought I'd pop in and say hello. Hope everyone has a good day. I will be heading to work and then I have some ripe tomatoes to can. I think I may make juice from those. I have several of the Roma tomatoes so it will make a nice thick juice.

Good Monday morning!

Wow, it's really pouring down rain here. It just stands in the yard because it's not soaking in fast enough. Everything is getting a good watering.

Monday house blessing here.

I was reading my old Betty Crocker cookbook last night and it is so interesting. How to set the table and how to relax and make a pleasant atmosphere. Do you have an old cookbook?

Have a super day.
