I agree, no better way to stay motivated than to sign up for a race!! My next goal is a 20k in June.

Great move. There is no better motivation than a race to get ready for. I was in much the same boat as you this time last year with only two 5K's under my belt and I ran a few more in 2010 but also added a 10K, a 10 miler and finally a Half Marathon in December. Just take it at your own pace and slowly increase your mileage and you'll do fine. Good luck!

I ran my first 5K in October 2010, and it went better than expected. My friend and I finished second and third in our age group, which was definitely a surprise. After our race, I stopped running altogether - I had completed my goal, so now what?

With the new year, I decided to set a goal for myself of running 4 races throughout the year, and I am determined to make at least one of those a 10K. The first one is March 5th, and 8-week training starts Monday. Hopefully the motivation doesn't run out! :)
