What we use on the dogs is vinegar, baking soda, and soap. This combination has been working wonders. The most important thing is to catch it early. Sadly my mom has the art perfect because we have a lot of skunks around and my dogs finds them entertaining to kill.

Crazy people don't really loose their mind, it just becomes something more entertaining!

Truth is a mass appeal to something.

OMG!!! Here is a recipe that we have used on the dogs and it seems to be very effective.

Skunk Cleaner
1 pint Hydrogen Peroxide
2/3 cup Soda
1 Tbsp Dish Soap

Mix it together and bathe the stinky one with it. My personal disclaimer--Don't know if it will work on horses. Good luck That must be horrible for the horses and for you.
