I have a warmblood mare that I purchased when she was 2 months old and still on her mother's side. She will be turning 17 years old next month!!! My 6 year old daughter has a 20 year old (acts like she is 10 years old) Arabian mare. You can see pics of both of them on my sparkpage!

I have an appendix QH and Dh has a paint mare. The QH gets ridden as often as time/weather allows. The mare gets to eat, sleep and poop. Which she thinks is just fine!

Hi all,
We have two horses an Egyptian Arabian, Zahra, who is 17yrs old and a Camargue pony, Kya, who is 12yrs old.

I ride Zahra and my daughter Emilie rides Kya.

Bitsy-
You said you raised Arabian for a number of years. Would a Aussie saddle work well on an Arabian or would you be sitting to far back and on their kidneys? I was told that Arabians kidneys are farther forward than most horses because of the one less vertebra.
I had tried an Aussie saddle on Zahra and she reared up on me, which isn't like her at all, usually she is pretty laid back.
Any thoughts on that. You can email me if you prefer.
Thanks

Margaret

Nope - won't laugh about the mini! From what I can see of the picture he is a cute little bugger!!

Julie - what color is your Rocky? My friend has three Rockies and one Kentucky Mtn horse. I ride the Kentucky horse whenever I go down to stay with her and last weekend she even had me ride her "green" Rocky. That was a blast. Her three Rockies are all chocolates but in different variations of darkness and all three have flaxen manes and tails. Just beautiful. Her Kentucky is a beautiful chestnut. I might be taking her yearling Rocky in for a month to work on her ground manners and desensitizing. Then again, she might have me take the 2 year old for desensitizing... Either way, I love working with the youngsters.

Ok nobody laugh, but I own a 32" mini Shetland pony called Kempton Hot Lava Java, or Teddy Boy to his friends. I did have another mini called Danny Boy but he was a nasty peice of work and could not be trusted with my children, so he whent to my mum's boss who owns showjumping stallions. I have owned Teddy since he was 2 years old and he cost me 70 as a stallion. I competed him in in hand showing where he never got placed below 3rd place. He's just a very laid back chap who loves kids and dogs! My son rides him and my daughter will start very soon.

My horse, Chester, is a 12 year old Belgian-Thoroughbred cross. He's done a little bit of everything--foxhunting, small hunter shows, trail riding, and now working at second level dressage. A good boy!

My mare, Midnight Rose, is a 10-year-old Rocky Mountain horse. My mom's Rocky, Beau, also stays with us. In the past, I've always had quarter horses and the like, so this breed is quite a change. They are delightful! And their gait -- to die for!

I have a QH/draft cross named Tucker, who is my baby...lol Ive had him since he was 6thms and he's now 6yrs. My other guy is a yearling QH/Warmblood/TB Cross named Caesar and we really don't have a clue what he is. He was an auction rescue and his background is a mystery, from his looks it could be a cross of any of the above three.

At this time I have my little appaloosa mare who I have borrow my screen name from - Bitsy. My boyfriend has a 3 year old Belgium/QH cross that is our "baby" Cruiser. I keep telling my BF that he is going to have to find another horse because Cruiser is going to be MY ride. I love that horse - very smart and level headed and just a wonderful ride so far. I need to take off more weight though because getting up on him is quite the feat for me. He's 16.3 hands, and I am only 5'3". LOL

Before Bitsy I raised and trained Arabians for many years and I started riding when I was 6 years old. I'm going on 40 years of having horses in my life and wouldn't have it any other way. emoticon

Hey there! My husband & I own 5 horses at the moment. I can totally relate to the 'collecting horses' post! lol. We had 8 at one time. We are trying to sell one more to get us down to 4. The one for sale is a coming on 16 year old arabian mare (JudyAnn). Cute as can be. Great trail horse w/ lots of personality. Oh, wait... they all have lots of personality with the exception of our old Tennessee Walker mare (Button - big & black). She's an 'anyone can ride' horse. She's coming on 19 this year, we've had her for almost 2 years, and think she was really ridden hard before we bought her. The poor girl didn't look too good. Now she's a much happier horse. We're keeping her as a semi-retired trail horse. My husband's regular ride is a 6 year old paint gelding (Tucson). Nice boy to ride on a trail. Not a real good arena horse (very little experience yet). My regular ride is an 11 year old half arabian named Apache (my ID is named after him). We are taking jump lessons together and are having lots of fun w/ that. He's also a great trail and parade horse. The 5th horse is Roo. She's a 9 month filly. We rescued her mother and decided to keep the foal. We're not sure what her breeding is, but we think there's arabian, quarter horse, and something else (that would give her the long legs).
Happy Trails All!
Rachel

I have a 32 year old zebra dunn mustang that I adopted when he was a 4 year old in Montana. He was the best trail horse I ever owned. Now, he's semi retired and teaching riding lessons to small children. I also have a Peruvian Paso Fino. She is my new trail horse and has a ride smooth as silk.
Like the rest of you, I need to take off a few pounds.

i have actually never owned a horse or even leased one in my whole life, but I have been riding for about 20 years now. I am a trainer at a show barn. We compete in hunters, jumpers and equitation. Most of the horses I work with are imported warmbloods from Germany and the Netherlands. We do however have a few other odds and ends around the barn, quarter horses, thoroughbreds and tons of ponies.

I have 2 Morgans: one is 9. I've had him 7 years. He's trained dressage although when competed he pooped in the middle of the test EVERY TIME. At one show the judge got disgusted after the third time and told DD (who was riding him) that she should work on that at home. Well, hello???!!!! He doesn't do THAT at home.

He's semi-retired now. I got a 6 y/o Western Pleasure Morgan at the end of March. He's a real pocket pony. I'm a terrible western rider and need a lot of lessons. I've ridden 'with contact' for so long, I'm having trouble riding on a western loose rein. Also neck reining takes some getting used to.

The third horse in the barn belongs to DD. He's also a Morgan, 3/4 brother to my dressage horse. He's currently at the trainer's have a show season. He's coming home at the end of September.

I have 2 Tennessee Walkers, one that I've known since she was a baby, 1 Andalusian, and most recently 1 Appy mix. Quite overwhelming to have so many, especially when I'm the only rider in the family for the most part, but when you have your own horse property collecting horses is just something that happens for one reason or another. Its crazy, but they all have their own place, like my walker mare is a go anywhere do anything type of horse, she's fun to mess around on (like riding backwards or my half attempts at vaulting :P). The other walker is a bit nervous and needs to go with another horse, but he's got a V8 engine and smooth as glass. My andalusian is a very flashy show horse, great mover and jumper, and the appy is a sweet slow patient guy, great for kids and easy to jump. So yeah, got quite the herd in my backyard but they all have such unique rides.

My horse is a thoroughbred. I got him when he was six years old after his career as a racehorse was over (he was far too slow, his trainer said). He went on to be a top show horse for me, but now we just trail ride and take it easy. I can hardly believe I've had him for almost seventeen years already!

I don't own a horse but at school we're assigned one to three horses that we take over full care of and ride every day. My favorite horse I've had so far was a big ol' warmblood who had a heart of gold. At home I mainly ride Thoroughbreds but lately have been working with a sweet little Paint mare who's about five or so.

I'm new to SparkPeople and I love horses so I'm reading all the threads, new and old regarding horses. I click on your pages and see beautiful horses but often can't find what breed they are. If you don't mind sharing, I'd love to know what kind of horse you own! Thanks so much!
