SISTERS!!! We are seriously slacking on our posts. I'm definitely speaking to myself first on this one. What is the deal? I know for me, it's the change in weather and a hectic schedule. I had a goal in mind for May 28th and I'm not anywhere closer to it. ARGH!!! What is it about this weight loss thing that some people get started and are able to stay on task and others, like me, bounce up and down between the first five pounds for months.

Hunger pangs are the worst!! You could try eating a small snack in between meals--one diet I was on had me eating 4 meals a day about 400 calories each so that I didnt go more than 4 hours without eating. If you get too hungry, you are more likely to splurge (believe me, I know!) plus your body may go into starvation mode and actually hold on to calories, so you could munch on baby carrots or eat an apple (they are great--sweet and crunchy and take a long time to eat). A glass of skim milk is also pretty satisfying and full of protein and calcium.

Hi girls , hope you are doing well. Quick question
: how do you deal with hunger pangs? Does your stomach get smaller as you lose weight or do you still have a big appetite?

Asalaamu alaikum,
Wow sis. I take it that someone has been backbiting you. I know it may be aggravating, but if she is your Muslim sister, do you really want to be a reason that her good deeds are taken away on that horrific day. If you wronged someone, wouldn't you want them to forgive you. Sometimes we wrong others in ways that we are not aware of. Be careful about not forgiving others it can seriously backfire. We all want Allah to forgive us for our sins. So why not do for someone that which you want done for you. I know for a fact that a particular sister talks bad about me whenever she gets a chance. I even know that she has lied to others about me. Yes, it does make me angry and actually hurts more than angers me. However, I still love her for the pleasure of Allah and therefore must forgive her. No matter what she says or does to me, I would never want to see her or any other Muslim burning in hellfire because of me. Even though she hasn't asked for my forgiveness, I forgive her. We should always make dua for the ummah. I've even read that if you ask Allah to forgive all the believing men and women for their sins, Allah will forgive an equal amount of your sins proportionate to the amount of believing men and women. We all have our faults, and one of mine is that I can be long winded, so I appologize for the long response, but I love you and wish the best for you.

Ok,lets change the subject!
What do you do if someone talked bad about you behind your back?
Personally I never forgive,I don't get angry because I know Allah will give me some of her hasanat at judgment day.

I always felt that the most accurate weight would be in the morning after you use the bathroom, stark naked and before you eat or drink anything. Or you could just weigh yourself at the same time with the same amount of clothes on each time, since the number itself isnt so important, just if you are gaining or losing. just for fun, sometimes I've weighed before and after using the bathroom, and even though it should, it doesnt seem to make much difference. think about it: one 8 ounce glass of water, by definition, should weigh half a pound.

Okay, I know this may sound gross, but I was just wondering. Does anyone else wait until they hadle their "bathroom business" before they weigh themselves? I'm not trying to be gross, I just want to know if it makes a difference or not.

Asalaamu alaikum,
My mom did Walk Away The Pounds for 1 month and lost 6 pounds. She's in her mid 50's and has always been a healthy eater. I'm so proud of her accomplishments and really hope to be able to follow her example and get busy getting healthy.

Assalamu Alaikum Sisters

It has been a very difficult few months for me. Back at the end of June I took a tumble down some stairs and broke my left shinbone. I am slowly recovering and am ready to get back on track with my weight loss. I have began exercising again, alhamdulillah.

I didn't do so well on the workout minutes. School and Ole Betsy (my car) seem to have other plans for me. Oh well, insha Allah, there's always this new week to get it in gear. I haven only lost any 1 pound since Ramadhan, but my pants are falling off. Yesterday was the only time that I felt sagging was cool. It was a bit embarrassing though: my pants were so loose that the legs were bunched up around my akles. Alhumdulillah for jilbabs.

Asalaamu alaikum sisters,

I know that a lot of us are focused on Ramadhan right now. I just want to check in and let everyone know that I'm thinking of you all and hoping that all is well. Insha Allah, enjoy your Ramadhan and dig deep into this treasure box that Allah za wajal has gifted to us. Be well.

Even though I am not new to Spark People since I have tried to lose weight before with the help of Spark People but just couldn't do it. I re-joined last night and trying to stay motivated this time. I am so glad that I found this Team. I am hoping to get healthy and lose this weight with all of your support. Inshallah.

Subhanallah! We have reached 99% of our water goal already. I didn't tell you all, but I plan to award the top three guzzlers (LOL) with a sparkgoodie. I also plan to post a new forum for our team goals. We have thus far nearly completed the workout minutes challenge. I would like to compile a team workout minutes goal. This will begin at the end of Ramadhan insha Allah, as it requires team members to log in their minutes and I know that during Ramadhan most of us try to keep busy with things other than this computer. So, look forward to an email from me with an explaination a week after Eid insha Allah.

Asalaamu alaikum sisters,
We have seven days and a little over 200 cups of water left to make our water goal. Insha Allah, we can get 30 cups of water in if at least 4 of us drinks eight cups a day during the next seven days. We have never reached our goal for any month thus far. Let's really push it this time sisters. We can do this, it's only water. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sparkpeople provides that information in your nutrition plan. If you look at the bottom portion of the page you log your food intake, there is a section that calculates the fat. It will provide you with the range that is best for your goals.

Salaam sisters! i didn't know we're doing challenge....

anyhow, I am looking forward to Ramadan and eating healthy foods while fasting, inshallah. I usually exercise either in early morning before my morning meal, or before maghrib so I can break fast right after. the latter is a little hard to get used to but supposed to be very good for fat loss. by the end of the month i don't have much energy, mostly focused on spiritual concerns so I usually just walk and try to get centered in nature.

Once you get started, it's not that hard. I get my cooking done before Asr (when I'm paying attention to the time). Maybe start out doing the 10 minute spark exercises and increase it as you get used to it. And remember. Water, water, water. It's the key. Insha Allah, this will work.

Glad to hear it's a lot better now, Cindy.. may Allah reward you for your sabr.

I didn't manage to do any exercise before iftar today, was busy cooking. I did manage to do a bit before coming on here so I can say that I did do something.. am just very tired at the end of fasting that cooking is about all I can manage. I do wonder how you do it, Tsmatuladil..

Actually, my shoulder is a lot better, thanks to the PT. I dont have as much range of motion in the left as I do in the right, but not enough difference to be bothersome. it does get a bit stiff at times, but nothing as bad as it was.

Sorry to hear about your injuries, I hope you are a lot better now. Khair, insha Allah. My hubby had to do physiotherapy too after his back surgery, but alhamdulillah is a lot better now. Is it still painful for you at times? It is for my hubby.

My only experience with trainers is what I watch on The Biggest Loser. I like Jillian a lot. I hear they are going to film The Biggest Loser Asia in this part of the world.

Umm.... about the skating. As you may remember, I started back in spring of 2008. In September, I fell and hurt my shoulder. Later, i fell and hit my head, so started wearing a helmet. Then, about the same time that I fell and hurt my leg this spring, I found out that back when i fell on my shoulder I partly tore my rotator cuff and had to do physical therapy and get a cortisome shot. After that, my husband banned me from skating and said it was not worth the danger, which i tend to agree, although I do miss it (not all the bruises, however). I joined a gym instead, thinking that water aerobics would be much safer. I really dont like the water aerobics, though, and tend to just do the treadmill, elliptical (when available) and the bike, then the machines. The trainer is tough as well as expensive, but pushes me beyond what I would ever do on my own.

Cindy: Huggles.. I started 2 part-time jobs then, so time became a premium. I also had problems logging into SP for a couple of months, which also helped kill any enthusiasm for exercise... not that it needed much killing anyway. Anyway.. I'm starting slowly this time.. it is a bit like tawbah, isn't it? How is your ice skating going on and what are your sessions with the trainer like?

UmFiona: Thanks.. that thread is really helpful indeedy! Insha Allah will try to implement some of the great advice there...

It may seem that I am online all the time.. but actually I am trying to multitask.. not good at it though!

Salams Sisters,

Masha Allah it is great to see the sisters all going strong. Keep up the good work, all of you are an inspiration to me.

I have slipped off the exercise bandwagon.. oh no... there are many reasons (READ: EXCUSES) for this but still, where there is a will there is a way!

Insha Allah I will slowly start again.. small habits make for great progress I believe, instead of trying to do it all at once.

Would appreciate any tips on exercising in Ramadan.. when do you exercise? For how long?

Take care, and keep me in your duas..

love and salams,

Pongkey

Asalaamu alaikum,
Don't forget that going under your calorie range is still rewarded 100 if you are fasting. Just thought I would remind everyone because of tomorrow being the 15th of Sha'ban.

Asalaamu alaikum sisters,
I just wanted to mention two things.
1. Creativehobby won't be able to participate in the workout challenge because of an ankle injury. Insha Allah let's keep making dua for her complete recovery.

2. I'm only seeing two of us post to the challenges. That could either be because others are planning to post at the end of the week instead of everyday, or emoticon we're all alone. Either way, I'm here for anyone that wants to participate.

BTW: We have two Calorie Challenge topics. One titled New Calorie Challenge and then the original one. I've seen that most of us posted our formats in the New Calorie Challenge, so I will transfer mine to that topic and make sure its visible as a sticky topic.

Wow, that sounds like me. When my hubby's around I eat more because he does. Well, he doesn't eat a lot, he's just a big snack/junk food eater. When he eats ice cream and cookies, I can't help but to join in. He makes it look so good. Sometimes I can control it and I just have tea or fruit. But when I give in, I REALLY give in. It's a good way to train yourself to have more self control. We are always going to be tempted when we are around others. If you don't keep your eyes on the prize, they will be on the fries.

Try to figure out why you eat more when he's home. Does he eat a lot? Is it because you cook more when he's around? Do you go out on the weekends to eat? do you visit people a lot? (That's my downfall, the nuts and sweets) If you slack off on working out when he's home, that's understandable, cause you want to pay attention to him. I've tried asking for my husband's help in keeping my weight down by not taking me out for ice cream, Starbuck's, Tim Horton's, etc, although he still asks. I'm more likely to be a "bad" girl when I'm alone cause there's no one to see me. I'm a closet eater.

Its okay so long as you don't let it derail you. Make up for it by working extra hard this week! Or not, if this really was a blow to your motivation, then just try to stay on track! This is such a little thing so long as you don't let it get you down and make you fall off the wagon for the next two weeks! Hang in there, girl!

I ate so much over the weekend. My problem is when my husband is around i eat a lot. I don't know why. He usually works late during the weekdays so i don't see him at all. So when I'm home alone i behave and workout. Weekends...? ....forget it.
Now I feel so bad. I was doing so well last week. :( I don't know what to do.

I hope that goes well for you! Sometimes it really helps to have someone tell you exactly what you need to do! It takes the little devil on your shoulder out of commission so he cant say, "well, I think you've done enough..." emoticon

went to the gym today and got suckered into signing up for a personal trainer for ten sessions. Supposedly "twice the results in half the time". We'll see...

LOL!Cindy that's a good idea. Oddly enough, the only time that I can keep a schedule is during Ramadhan. Because I workout between Asr and Maghrib, the kids stay away from me because they know I'll make them join. The phone thing is so true. My kids either come with a pressing "where are the cookies" issue or try to figure out who I'm talking to so that they can talk too.

is that the same rule that says that "thou shalt not have an uninterrupted phone call"? do you notice that everything has to happen when you are on the phone and it can never wait? I keep a pretty loose schedule and try to get my workout done by noon. If I wait too long, I know I wont do it, cause i want to take a shower before too late in the day. maybe if you achedule it for one or two more times a week than you actually need to, you may get the right amount in. Kinda like I try to drink 10 glasses of water a day to make sure I get at least eight.

I am in the same boat! I LOVE schedules, they look so nice and neat. I print them off on the computer, repeatedly, in pretty formats with pretty fonts. I make schedules for everything! You'd think I would have given up by now because we experience the same phenomenon at our house! Yes I think there must be some cosmic rule like gravity that states "Thou Shalt NOT Have a Schedule." emoticon

Do any of you ever make a schedule for your workouts and everything gets in the way? Whenever I make a schedule, it usually includes a 10am workout. For some reason it is at that exact moment that someone somewhere needs me for something. I've been interrupted with last minute guests, emergencies (which are undestandable), "I can't find my kufi", "Mom do you know where my new niqab is?", and so on. It's like whenever I want to start a consistent schedule, there's some golden rule that states "Thou shalt not have a schedule" and everyone knows about it except me. emoticon

Alright I'm done being a big baby. I'll just have to stick to my "which ever way the wind blows" schedule ntil I can get something else established.
