No, I wasn't referring only to freelancing but anyone who is earning money from anything related to writing. Wishing you continued success. Thanks for replying. -- Lou

I realize you're probably asking about freelance work, but I hated freelancing. I don't like scrounging for work, billing clients, marketing, etc.

I work through a contracting agency. I started with technical writing (or editing) jobs, and eventually moved into instructional design. I am very definitely WRITING all day, and I'm well paid for it. (I expect pay varies greatly from region to region BUT not all jobs require you to be local.)

I also happen to work from home, but that's not necessarily true for all contractors.

I started an editing business about a year ago, but aside from a few college students who wanted their work edited, the only offers I've gotten are from scam artists. I've tried sites like eLance, Guru, and such, but the jobs are either marked as "private," where you have to pay a monthly fee to see them, or the others trying to get the job live outside the US and can afford to work for pennies. I'm a good editor and a good writer, but I'm not that great at marketing myself, so right now, I'm at standstill.

How do you find work like that? I would love to do something like that becuase my husband travels and I have two school age boys, so it's really hard for me to work outside the home...

I used to write for a skin care company's web site, but they aren't do too well so they couldn't afford me anymore. That's what I've found lately, most people that used to hire writers to do professional stuff just can't afford it and are doing it themselves.

Are you earning money from writing related work? How?

I edit books for a publisher and authors and web sites, brochures and other written materials for individuals and businesses.
