I did get no or low sodium things on my last trip to the food store. I use lots of diced tomatoes and I found them without salt. Now I need to find more soups without salt.

I have to be diligent about caring for myself. 100 DAYS OF WEIGHT LOSS is a great way for me to keep focused. Day 1 is July 1, 2017. Build habits to produce success. Most of these habits I have at least tried before but did not sustain. First habit: delay eating by using a timer.

"Make sure you use fresh organic produce from scratch no can, boxed, packaged or processed foods. If you do of course read your labels." This is wonderful advice but I find it almost impossible to do.

I work full time and I am caregiver to a disabled husband. I have fibromyalgia . Almost 64 years old.


I have turned to canned soups for lunch--and often I add canned beans to them for fiber and other nutrients. I look for low or no salt but I can't always find the kinds I like to eat.

Even cottage cheese has lots of salt! Chris

I was shocked today. I added in nutritional values for a salad I made and the fresh items including broccoli, cucumbers, onion and garlic had some sodium in them naturally.

It is discouraging when salt is added to everything. It seems like the only way to get away from salt and sugar is to strart from scratch on everything. Like squeezing your own juice, using only fresh vegetables etc. emoticon

I do not add salt to anything, eat a well-balanced diet, take a diuretic daily, and still can't seem to keep my daily sodium under 1000 mg a day. Any suggestions out there as to what I am doing wrong? I log my food, drink lots of water, etc, but need some help! Thanks!

I have been advised by a specialist that I have to be on salt free diet. I have not used a salt shaker or added salt to my cooking for years so I have to read all labels. I am a bit confused bcos I read somewhere that everyone has to have at least 1500 of salt in their diet each day. I am in my 70's, can anyone help me. Thanks.

I rarely put salt on anything unless (rarely) i use it to season chicken (then it is a mixed seasoning rub). I am trying to watch the amount of sodium that are already in my foods though.

Trying to find low sodium foods are difficult. Need to find recipes that don't have it in them. I now look for low sodium or no salt added.

Do you count the sodium that occurs naturally in many foods and the sodium that is in things like bread, cereal, and other processed foods? I do and my sodium is usually about 700 mg per day.

I have been a member of this team for years, but have not ever posted or read anything. That is crazy! I should have been here a long time ago.
I am not currently on BP meds, but my MD would love the idea. I told her I would take care of it myself. Even after 23lbs lost, it is still high, even higher. After looking more closely, I noticed my sodium intake is off the hook! I struggle with it daily. So, I will start reporting. Thanks for the idea!

Thanx for the tips Carolle. My oldest daughter is helping me now I am taking care of my hubby at home and she cooks 3 or 4 times a week. She made a beef roast last nite and we used lemon pepper, pepper and garlic powder and with all the veggies it was very good cooked in the crockpot. We are slowly learning to watch more carefully. Hi. First of all, you can replace sodium chloride salt with potassium chloride. That will give you time to work on changing recipes. Potassium Chloride is sold as No Salt and other brands.

Then start experimenting by replacing, say a quarter of the salt with garlic powder (that won't be a 1:1 change though. Garlic powder is strong, so go easy!) or onion powder.

This is also a great time to start sneaking veggies into dishes. The existence of even one carrot in a casserole sweetens the entire dish, for example, makes the flavor more complex, and allows you to skimp a little more on the salt.

I've been able to slowly replace the salt in everything I cook, except bread because salt is needed for the leavening process. You can do it!!
