Congrats to both of you! Sometimes I think when we get into that deprivation mindset we simply go hogwild to protest. At least I know I do. However, if I allow myself a little wiggle room without feeling so deprived I tend to stick with the plan. Just a little mindset! Glad to hear there are no day after regrets! Makes the celebration even more so!

HypatiaX did really well yesterday. She didn't go over, even though we had (the forbidden) pizza! I went over by less than 100 calories, something I can probably make up for with a few adjustments for the rest of the week.

I am just giving myself a couple of days of having a few more calories than my plan calls for, not enough to gain weight, but room for a few birthday goodies. Tuesday I'll go back to my regular routine.

Allow yourself a few bites of the "forbidden foods." Making them forbidden only makes them more attractive.

HypatiaX and I are wandering into temptation again. Tomorrow is SOMEONE's birthday, and we are celebrating with a few forbidden items.

The party sounds like fun! And I can think of worse things than overdoing it on healthy foods!

I am not much of a party person either, at least not the type where there are lots of people I don't know. The resident graduation isn't like that. It is part of my job to help plan and organize the event. To be fair, a lot of the food was healthy stuff and there are always low fat options. I just overdid it.

Not attending is out of the question. I had to be there early to help set up. I would have gone anyway. Our department is a pretty close knit group, so the graduation party is kind of like a family gathering.

Since I am the coordinator for student education I sort of watch them grow up. After five years or more of working with our residents I hate to say good-bye. Some of the former residents come back for the party so I get to catch up and see how their kids have grown. My spouse probably hates it, but she gets dragged to it every year.

There's less at stake on an Internet message board; we usually have never met in person and our social/professional standing isn't affected if we make a whoopsie. Well, at least not on most message boards. There are probably some professional boards out there with many lurkers and few posters.

I am with you on the uncomfortable with making small talk with strangers. . . I usually avoid parties where I do not know anyone. I really think I was a hermit in a past life.

I eat too much at parties because 1)free range grazing is hard to track and easy to justify and 2) because I am often uncomfortable at functions--wandering around talking to near-strangers seems to freak me out.

That seems so odd because I am such a talkative sort most of the time--but I have always felt out of place at group functions.

This is the time we have quite a few end of the school year parties. I eat my healthy snacks before I go especially apples or carrots with lots of water. It helps me feel quite full and able to knosh through the treats.

I tried to behave tonight at the resident graduation party, but nibbling a little of this and a few bites of that got me. When I totaled it all up I was about 300 calories over my range. Anyone have suggestions on keeping those calories down at a party?
