Mississippi weather sounds lovely! It sounds a lot like Florida weather. We lived in central Florida for over 20 years, The winters were mild and I did like that but the summers were just too danged hot for me. I missed Pennsylvania so much--even the winters! I finally talked DH into moving back to Pa about 10 years ago--and we've been here ever since. We still have family in Florida--but while I'll go visit from time to time--I don't think I'll ever move back there.

Now, about that nighttime eating...are you doing a bit of comfort eating too (like I was) or are you just genuinely hungry? Do you track calories everyday? I know lots of time the Nutrition Tracker has stopped me from eating something--just because I didn't want to have to add that (whatever naughty morsel was tempting me to shove in my mouth) to my tracker and show everyone how much over my calories I've eaten-(my tracker is public)-so it makes me think twice about eating it.

Anyway, don't worry too much about it Lisa, you've got a lot on your mind right now--with your daughter leaving soon and all. I know how upsetting that is. It's so hard when our fledglings leave the nest! I cried for days when my baby girl married and moved out. Heck, it's been 10 years and I still miss her not living at home--although I'm very lucky as she lives only 3 miles from me and I see her most everyday.

Georgia, I don't use a pedometer. I had one for a while, but it was a cheap one and it just couldn't be relied on to count correctly. I use the map route thing on the spark fitness page and count mileage like that.

Our winters here in Mississippi are very mild, and actually quite pleasant. 40's for us is cold, and we rarely get snow and ice. When we do, it is an Event, and the whole city shuts down! LOL So this is the time of year I really enjoy walking. Come about May or June, I hibernate with the air conditioner. emoticon

I'm having a bit of problem with my eating this week. Last night I had pizza, cheese its, and got in to my nutella again. emoticon But I just felt so hungry! Try, try again!

You are doing very well also! Together, we can conquer this! emoticon

Thank YOu Lisa! You always say the most encouraging things, and I'm tickled pink that I was lucky enough to get you for a diet buddy! You are simply THE BEST!!!

I didn't realise you were walking everyday. That's really an accomplishment to be proud of! Do you use a pedometer or anything of that sort to track your steps? I'd like to buy one, but am unsure of what kind to buy. Any suggestions?

What will you do in the winter months as far as walking? Does it get snowy and icy in Mississippi? I really don't know. (shows you how ignorant I am) emoticon

keep up the really excellent work, my dear spark friend :)

Georgia, thank you for the encouragement. We are so much alike! I'm very glad you are my SparkBuddy! emoticon

I have such a sweet tooth, and I love all that junk food too. I am proud of how I have been walking every day, except for one here and there. So I am going to focus my attention on that accomplishment, and just keep trying with the eating like you said. And 28 pounds since mid-September is wonderful! Congratulations on that!

Thank you, my friend!

Good morning team! It's raining here in western Pennsylvania too, but at least the temps are (unseasonably) high. It's supposed to reach 76 degrees today! I love it!!

The excavators are supposed to come and dig the new footer for our bedroom addition, but still haven't made it. They've been promising to come since last Friday. Ah well, patience is a virtue, but I'm afraid I'm not feeling very virtuous about it. Only frustrated and worried we won't be able to move into the house before winter. They did say they will absolutely make it tomorrow, but since we're in for a huge thunderstorm with high winds tonight--i'm just going to cross my fingers but not get my hopes too high.

Ah Lisa, don't feel too badly about eating one off-plan meal. It's not really those few extra calories that do the damage, but it's the way they set you up for the guilt that causes the most hurt. I'm battling that "all or nothing" mentality too. But it really does us no good to think along those lines. You donít have to be perfect, you just have to stick with it. Remember that it's what you do consistently that shows real results. We'll get there, Lisa!
I'm not making the best food choices either, but am honestly trying to stay below my calorie limit--and it's working so far. I figure I'm just going to tackle one bad habit at a time instead of trying to go from eating total junk 24 hours a day to being a health nut all in one fell swoop. Those kind of extremes never work for me. Oh they sound lovely in theory, but in practical application, at least for me, they just don't work. Sure, I'd love to be eating really healthy, but the truth is, I like all of those "bad" foods, and pretending I don't and forcing myself to eat all the foods that are good for me just leaves me feeling deprived. And once I start feeling deprived, then BANG!---off my diet I go! I don't want to do that anymore. So, I'm starting small, still eating the foods I like, but am sneaking in healthier foods here and there too. I'm not eating anything with sugar in it, am trying to limit my carbs, and am aiming for staying below 1500 calories a day. I've lost 28 pounds since I started in mid September, and I'm overall very happy with those results. I do plan on changing things for the better as I continue. But slowly.

Wow. sorry for the long explanation. lol
but just wanted to let you know how things are for me, and am trying to be honest and fess up to my less-than-perfect dieting attempts...which is always hard for me to do! At least it was in the past. More of that All or Nothing mindset I guess.

Anyway, just want you to know that you're not alone in struggling--nothing feels worse than trying to go it alone.

hugs--
Georgia

emoticon emoticon emoticon Good morning! It is cloudy this morning, and I am doing a rain dance. We need some rain so bad!

Last night was a big FAIL! My husband made this really good pasta and veggie dish. He made it with whole wheat pasta and yummy mushrooms, carrots, squash and zuchinni. And then he poured...sigh...velveeta and rotel tomatoes on it...and...sigh...topped it with shredded cheese. It was sooooooooo good! So I caved in to temptation and made croissant rolls to go with it. I limited myself to one at dinner...but then later....sigh....I went back and got another one....sigh.....and topped it with nutella. OMG it was soooooooo good! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

The good thing about yesterday is my exercise. I walked 25 minutes during my break, then when I came home I took my dogs for a 25 minute walk. emoticon

So today I'm back on my eating plan. (hopefully emoticon )

I hope you all have a great day!

Good morning everyone! Can you believe this is the last day of October?? Then just two more months in 2010. Ack!

I had a good weekend, although I didn't get everything done that I needed to. I did get my walk in each day, and that was important to me. I also got some stitching and knitting in, and that was important too. emoticon

Have a good on-plan Monday!

It sounds like you have had a wonderful time with your grandson! Please don't stress or worry about listening to the podcast. Just enjoy your time with him. And then listen to it when you can work it comfortably in your schedule. I really think we should approach the podcasts as something to take our time with, so they can sink into our minds and help us make the changes we need to. emoticon

I must make a cookie confession...I worked one into my plan yesterday. But at least I planned for it and it wasn't a binge thing! emoticon LOL

Today was a very nice day. I went for a walk and enjoyed the wonderful weather. I'm going to stitch for a while tonight, but I'm by my computer so I will watch for you if you check in tonight.

Lisa, I'm so proud of you for not giving in to those chocolate chunk cookies. Sometimes the siren call is so hypnotic it's hard to refuse. I don't know if I would've had the strength to do it. But YOU DID!! Woooooo Hoooooooo that's so great!! That's exactly how you break away from old habits and make new, healthier ones. Plus, you actually thought about it, took the the time to think about it--instead of just mindlessly eating. I think that is absolutely wonderful. You are making progress girl!!!
emoticon emoticon

My weekend has been busier than usual. We had my 5 year old grandson all day yesterday, last night and today. His sister (10 years old) was away at a girl scout sleepover so he decided to come and stay with us. We get such a kick out of them when they stay. Usually we have them both at the same time and like most kids they squabble a lot. But with just one grandkid at a time it was more relaxed and fun. I'm sorry to say I didn't get a chance to listen to episode one of our IOWL yet, and I hope I haven't held you up in discussing it, but I promise to listen to it either tonight or first thing in the morning. My grandson will be going home soon--so I'll have a chance to listen without interruption.

I'm off to make supper now and will get back online in a few hours to catch up a little more.

hugs

Georgia

emoticon Good morning everyone! Just wanted to check in today.

I did really good last night. I was craving a chocolate chunk cookie, and I have frozen cookie dough in my freezer. But instead of sticking a couple of them in the oven, I came here to spark people and looked at my nutrition tracker, and decided I would rather stay within my calories than have a cookie. So I went and brushed my teeth instead.

Morning folks.

Lisa--great job on the walking! They say that's the very best exercise in the world. I know when I used to walk in the mornings it was the best part of my day. I really look forward to being able to do that again as it's what I miss the most. Right now my weight won't permit that, but hope to be able to get enough off to manage walking for exercise again by Spring.

I'm even prouder of you for not indulging in emotional or stress eating. That's a HUGE accomplishment and one to be so proud of! That's a milestone, my girl!

Maybe cultivating this new outlook by listening to the IOWL messages is really helping! Whatever it is, I'm very happy for you and am hoping it wil rub off on me too.

I have another busy day ahead of me. DH already went over to the other house and I'm off to meet him there soon. I'm trying to finish up a curtain I made for the back door in the kitchen of the new house. I couldn't find any that matched the red curtains I have up on the windows so I just decided to go ahead and make one. My sewing machine is over there so off I go!

will check in later and drop off my thoughts of episode one on ther thread. I don't want to get behind in listening to these episodes. I do have my laptop over at the new house so I'll listen to to episode one again as I sew.

hope your day is going to be as nice as you are!

hugs

Georgia

I am feeling better today, not so cranky. I have made it to hump day finally! emoticon

I am happy with myself that I haven't indulged in emotional or stress eating. That is a step in the right direction. And I've been walking every day for almost two weeks now. Progress feels so good!

I hope we all have a wonderful day!

Oh Lisa, I wish I could hug you.

Empty Nest Syndrome is such a hard time to go through. It's so difficult to deal with all those emotions that we feel when our babies leave home.

You try to hide the sadness from everyone else because after all--when a kid strikes out on his/her own it's supposed to be a happy occasion. And while we really are happy for our kids, we also feel a deep, deep sense of loss. Just try to remember Lisa, that these feelings are normal. And honestly all that will really help ease the pain is Time.

I'm so sorry hon.

On a brighter side, it's also the time to take out those dreams that you put on the back burner, and for all those times you said to yourself, "Maybe when the kids are grown?" Now is the time to bring those dreams out and brush them off. Maybe now would be a good time to think about a way to have your own business--Like owning your own Stitching Store. I know you'd like to do that.

And I do know from my own experience when my only daughter married and moved out, it really does get better with Time. We human beings are resilient creatures. It just takes a period of adjustment---and while that's happening, take a step back, look at your child and congratulate yourself on a job well done!

Good morning everyone! Well, I'm feeling a bit better than yesterday, but I still feel yuck. My friend at work says I have the Ick. And that just really describes how I'm feeling right now. I think it probably has something to do with the fact that my baby (who is 23) is getting ready to move to Kentucky. emoticon Hopefully I will get over it at some point.

I hope everyone has a good day!

I know exactly what you mean about blechy, blah, blue Mondays. I felt that way all day today too---sorry to know you did too, but glad to know I wasn't all alone in that.

We had our home heat/energy inspection today. I set it up with a conservation/energy group to help us see where we're losing heat in our home. Our heating bills in the winter are always monstrous and I thought perhaps this might help. It actually surprised me to find out that we're already pretty much doing everything we're supposed to be doing to make our home more weatherproof. The only place they found heat might be escaping was around our back door, so we'll replace that and see if it helps.

I was so busy today that I didn't get a chance to listen to the prologue, but will do that first thing in the morning. I'll post when I wake up in the morning. I'm looking forward to sitting down with a hot cup of tea and hearing it. I'm also looking forward to your response and views too and see what you got out of it.

I better go track my food for the day before I fall asleep.

hugs to all

Georgia

emoticon Good Blecky Monday Morning. I am just a little ray of sunshine today. Sigh.

I had a good weekend. My daughter and I went to the Natural Science Museum on Saturday, which was a lot of fun. Plus had the added benefit of some trail walking. Yesterday was mostly devoted to trying to get ready for the week. So here I am, blue Monday. I just don't want to be here at work. Oh well, I will get over it.

I did listen to the prologue. I will try to listen to episode 1 today. I'm going to open threads for them, and post my notes on the prologue this evening.

I hope you all had a good weekend!

Hi :)

Lisa, it's so nice that your day off was spent in such a happy way. I'm glad you were able to enjoy not only the lovely weather, but got some stitching in too. I always stitch more when the weather gets cooler. This is my favorite time of the year anyway :)

Don't worry about indulging in the rotel dip (which sounds yummy by the way) as far as I see it, if you've limited your portion it falls under staying "legal". If we had to deny ourselves of every good thing to eat, dieting would soon become such a dreaded chore that we wouldn't be able to last very long and would soon give up in defeat. That's one of the things I'm trying to re-educate myself on, that's it's ok to eat anything--as long as I control my portions. That's how skinny people eat, and it works for them! :)

No, I didn't find the other team yet for IOWL, but I will. I've been so busy all day today that this is the first time I've managed to get online. I usually like to log in and get my posting done in the mornings--but today was incredibly chaotic. I cleaned, did laundry, paid bills, and am STILL trying to get my spare bedroom/exercise/junk room in some kind of order for my home energy inspection that's coming up in a few days. In fact, I haven't even tracked my food for the day yet, but will do that as soon as I finish up here.

I love the Deep Blue Sea too and never miss Shark Week! lol

About the IOWL I'll listen to the prologue and episode one in the morning and will post on the thread you're going to open. Thanks for doing that. I'm looking forward to hearing what she has to say and also hoping that it helps me re-think a lot of things!

hugs to all---and have a great Sunday!

Hey everyone! I have had a wonderful day today. It was my Friday off (I work a flex schedule with every other Friday off), and it was perfect! The weather was gorgeous and I have enjoyed my stitching. As a consequence, I haven't been on the computer much.
emoticon

I did good with my eating too, up until my husband made rotel cheese dip. Sigh. Heaven on a chip. Irresistable. Yep, I gave in to the siren call of velveeta cheese, tomatoes, and tostitos. Oh well. It sure was good! I did limit my portion though. And I will log it in my nutrition tracker.

I'm watching Deep Blue Sea tonight, for about the 100th time. I love that movie! I also love Jaws 1 and 2. I have a thing for sharks.

Gerogia, did you find the other team? I'm sorry the link didn't work. I will open us a thread for discussion. I'm planning on listening to the prologue tonight, and then the first episode probably tomorrow.

Did you have a good time playing with your grandchildren? emoticon

I hope you have a wonderful night!

I'm having trouble getting that link to work, Lisa.

I'll try looking up the team myself. I think it would be a great idea to join it. I really do hope some of our other team members will want to hop on the bandwagon with us as well. Starting this weekend is ok with me. I'm looking forward to it!

Will you open a thread so that we can discuss the weekly episodes?

Your books both sound interesting. I think I remember a team for "Shape Shifters" on here--but I don't know if it's still active or not. Something to possibly check out.
Healing ourselves from the inside out is something we all have to do along with eating right, of course. Like you, I've thought for a long, long time that I should somehow address why I need to eat so much, or else there would be little hope for any permanent weight loss. I just didn't know where to start. Maybe these episodes will do the job!

hugs--

Georgia

I think it would be great to join the spark team. It has lots of good comments on it that we could read and learn from too. Here is a link to it for you all:
www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/groups_i
nd
ividual.asp

But I would still like to do our discussions here, and hopefully other team members will join in. Would you like to start with it this weekend? Maybe we could listen to the prologue and Episode 1? And then one episode a week?

I think the diet industry doesn't encourage healing our issues from the inside out because they can't capitalize on that. Plus, once you have healed your issues, and given yourself healthy tools to use, there will be no more yo-yo dieting. I have known for a long time that the only way for me to get off this diet merry-go-round was to figure out the source of my emotional eating, and then deal with it, but I never had the tools to do that. So I just concentrated on my fat suit, and hating my body, and all kinds of ingenious ways of torturing and tormenting my poor body came my way. And each failure made me hate my body even more. Now that I have made up my mind to get healthy inside rather than worry about my outside, the tools are coming to me. Instead of diet programs and new diet pills and such, I am discovering things like Inside Out Weight Loss and the book Shape Shifting. That doesn't mean I'm not following the SP program, because I know that my physical health depends on my changing my eating and exercising habits. But I want to change the way I look at that too. Whew, this turned in to quite a rant, didn't it?
emoticon

I'm so glad to have you as my spark buddy to help me work through this process! It is so encouraging to have someone to listen and discuss things with. And anyone else who wants to join us, PLEASE DO!

I think that's a great idea Lisa. Is it on weekly? What a concept. Healing ourselves from the inside instead of just addressing the outward symptoms! It makes you wonder why we haven't tried to do that before. I think this will be good for us all. We can listen, discuss and apply the concepts on a new thread as you suggested.

You are a GREAT Co-leader with such fantastic, fresh ideas and I'm so happy that you're on my team---AND my sparkbuddy!

Are you going to join the sparkgroup for IOWL as well? Let me know and I will too. Can't hurt to try it, eh?

Georgia, and anyone else interested, I discovered these podcasts called Inside Out Weight Loss. I have been intending to listen to them, but I haven't gotten around to starting them yet. Maybe we could listen and work through them together?

There is also a team here on spark people for the podcasts.

What do you think?

Your double-wide sounds like a wonderful, comfy nest. It would be hard for me to move into something new, but then I really hate moving. LOL Living in Mississippi, I can't imagine having to shovel snow off my roof!

I enjoyed seeing your photo! I promise I will get off my butt and get some photos posted. I finished the needlepoint piece I was working on last night, then pulled out the needlecase. It felt really good to actually finish something! LOL

I'm glad you like the challenge. emoticon I thought it would be fun, and I need fun to keep me motivated. Instead of thinking, yuck I have to go walk, I think I have to go walk to move us closer to Kurenai-kai! I'm such a dork. LOL

I wanted to include some photos in my challenge post, but evidently you can't do that, or I couldn't figure out how to do it. So I may have to post the photos on our group page and maybe link to it.

I hope we all have a wonderful, on-plan day!

Morning folks! Hope your Wednesday is off to a great start!

The weather here is gorgeous. Crisp, cold nights with the temp going up to about 70 degrees in the daytime. Sunny, beautiful days with the truly lovely fall foliage that Pennsylvania is noted for. I adore Autumn.

I'm watching my grandkids today, or I will when I pick them up from their bus stop at 12:30. They only have half a day today and then are off Thursday and Friday as well. Something about a Teacher's conference. We'll probably take them over to the new house and let them romp there. We have a couple of their bikes over there and since the driveway s so long and flat they'll be able to drive them over there. Our doublewide here has a long, steep driveway and no place at all for them to ride there.

DH has plans to make some woodwork to go around the windows in the mudroom and when he's done with them, that means MORE curtains to iron and put up. 6 of them! *sigh* I must've been nuts!

I've found some old embroidery books that belonged to my Aunt. They're from the 40's thru the 70's. How simple and pretty they are. I loved Old Stuff anyway so these are right up my alley! Perhaps I'll work on a design from one of the older books as my next project.

Any luck on getting your unfinished embroidery projects collected, sorted and listed? I haven't yet. But I plan to. We're having a home energy inspection next week here in our doublewide to help us see how we can save on heating bills and one of the things they'll want to see is the hot water heater that just happens to be located in my "sewing/spare-bedroom/exercise room" (Read: junk room!) and that HAS to be cleaned up or the poor guys won't be able to get into it. My unfinished sewing projects are in there too--so maybe I'll finally get them sorted!

What's on the agenda for you today? Whatever it is, hope you have a wonderful time doing it!

hugs--

Georgia emoticon

Hello again :)

I never watched Thintervention, but I think I haven't for the same reasons that you didn't care for it. I know I myself don't respond very well to threats or yelling, and I know I would find it extremely uncomfortable to watch someone being treated that way. Especially in the name of "good health". My guess is they probably get paid big bucks to appear on those shows, and yes, perhaps desperation drives them too. Ah well. We Americans will watch anything.

I don't know for sure if we'll be moving into the house or not. We live in a doublewide trailer now on an acre of land. The land itself used to belong to my grandparents and I have so many fond memories of being here when I was a child.

Jesse has re-done the entire doublewide inside and out over the ten years we've been here. He added 10 more feet to make our living room wider, he added 15 feet to two of the bedrooms to make them longer and added 3 porches---1 of which is 30 feet long, laid down wide plank flooring in every room, put in a big wood-burner with a beautiful stonework wall behind it too. I guess what I'm saying is this is the first time I ever had a place that was kind of custom-built exactly the way I want it to be--and I'd hate to give that up.

The new house is very nice too, but the kitchen is small. The one I have here in the trailer is 14x30 and I have lots of room for everything.
Going back to a smaller kitchen will be hard to get used to again.

Still, the doublewide is more work to take care of than a regular house with a regular roof that you don't have to get up on and shovel the snow off of. Plus, the new house is heated with natural gas, as opposed to the propane we use here which is more expensive in our area, and last, but not least, it's way more insulated than a mobile home.

So, I don't know yet. I gotta decide before winter sets in...providing the new room is even ready for us to move into by then. How spoiled I am!

emoticon

How's your dieting efforts going? I hope good. Mine is ok, but I need to start making better food choices. I'm staying in my calorie range but the carbs are a little higher than I'd like them to be. I blame that on my eating on the run most days. I'll be glad when things settle back down to normal again.

I really can't tell you how much this new challenge means to me. It's just that added OOMPH I needed to get me kicked into high gear again. Thanks so much for dreaming it up!!

hugs---

Georgia

Ironing curtains? Ack! You know, I don't think I have ever ironed curtains in my life! emoticon Right now in my house all I have are blinds and no curtains.

So will you guys be moving in to this house? It sounds really beautiful!

I watched a little bit of Thintervention last night. It made me feel uncomfortable the way the trainer yelled at them and told them to push through the pain and tears. I just don't see how that can be good for your body. Discomfort, yes, pain? No. Pain is a signal that something is wrong. I don't want to tear my body down, I want to build it up. And she wanted them to lose 15 pounds in two weeks! emoticon I don't know why anyone would agree to go on a show like that, except desparation.

We are hoping to get a little rain today! emoticon We need it so bad! Come on little rain clouds!

Hope we all have great Tuesdays! Treat yourself to a little stitching time!

I'm really excited about the challenge! It sure seems like a fun way to get more active in not only our embroider/needlework habits--but in our physical endeavors as well!

I was so busy at the new house yesterday that I didn't get a chance to check in here. The Sears guy came and fixed my washer and dryer, another guy came and delivered a washer that I bought off of Craig's List (That washer is going to my brother's apartment which is over our garage), and our contractor came and staked out the new layout for the bedroom addition we're building. While all of that was going on I ironed and hung more curtains in the new place. I've ironed and hung 10 sets of curtains and still have 6 more sets to go! Whew! I dislike ironing in the first place, and in the second place, why didn't I just buy window toppers that you don't have to iron? lol
Anyway, we hung more pictures and unpacked a few more boxes and slowly, room by room, the new house is coming together. It's pretty satisfying to see each room when it's done and looks so nice. But it sure takes a long time--or seems to anyway. We didn't get back home here until 10:00 PM and I fell right into bed.
I'm doing good on my meal plan and hope next time I step on the scale that it registers a loss. I'm trying to make myself wait until Sunday to weigh in again.

Hope your Tuesday is going to be a great one!

I haven't and don't always eat very healthily. I have always gravitated towards carbs. My main food groups are carbs, fats and sugars, in any combination. LOL My favorite food is cheese pizza - bread, cheese and tomato sauce. Yum! LOL And I have a terrible sweet tooth.

I have never liked meat, and have never eaten much meat, but would eat it if it was wrapped in bread, covered with cheese, some kind of sauce or mayo, and I couldn't taste it. If I ate a hamburger, I would pull out 3/4 of the meat patty because what I really wanted was the cheese, lettuce & tomato & pickles, and mayo. At my favorite Mexican restaurant I would order a chimichanga, rake 99.99% of the meat out, and cover it with cheese sauce and sour cream. When I cooked hamburger helper, I would eat around the meat. So I finally decided what was the point of pretending to eat it? I have been strictly vegetarian for a little over a year now. Meat just holds no appeal to me at all.

And preparing it? Forget it! It grosses me out. When I made spaghetti, I would make the meatballs with two spoons and never touch the meat. LOL

As far as veggies and fruits go, I have yet to meet one I don't like. Except beets, but that may be because I have only ever tasted canned beets. I might like them fresh.

I'm so happy! I weighed in this morning and I lost 2.4 pounds this week! Woo hoo! I'm all pumped now! emoticon

We can share meal plans if you want to. It would probably be a good way to share our food knowledge and learn about new foods. emoticon When I'm eating right, I eat lots of beans, whole grains such as brown rice and wheat bread and noodles, and all kinds of other vegetables. I also eat lots of fruit. You will be able to see on my meal plan. emoticon

I'm excited about our challenge. I think the way you outlined the points is great. I have lots of ideas rolling around in my head. I will get my thoughts together and do a post tomorrow. I hope everyone joins us too!

Lisa, I'm thrilled to be diet buddies with you too! Just let me know how much--or how little--you want me to check in with you about how you're doing on whatever exercise you choose to do(if you do want to exercise, that is--some folk don't, and that's ok) or whether or not you want to share your meal plans with me or not. Sometimes I've found it helps to talk about that--helps keep you on track a little bit more if you know someone else is actually going to read about what you ate...)makes you think twice! I could even post it as a new thread here if you like. Call it "What's Cookin' Good Lookin'?" if that sounds ok?

I also really, really love your idea about a virtual tour challenge! All the great ideas on ways to earn miles sounds like a really cool way to keep ourselves motivated as not only individuals--but as a team!

Since it was your idea, how about you picking the destination? Then once you pick the place we can use your suggested mile system.

Something like this:

1 minute of embroidery or other needlework = 1 mile.

1 minute of exercise = 2 miles.

1 8 oz. glass of water = 3 miles

Using the Nutrition Tracker for an entire day = 15 miles.

Blogging at least once a week = 20 miles

Sharing daily on the "What's Cookin' Good Lookin'?" thread = 2 miles

How's that for a start? If any of you have any ideas on other things to help us add miles--please, do let me know. This is going to be FUN!!

Oh I do so hope that Kip, Connie, Sherry and some of the others decide they want to join us too!

I think it's sweet that your hubby cooks to please you. Not many men are that thoughtful! What are the staples of your vegetarian diet if I may ask?

hugs---

Georgia, I would love to be diet buddies! emoticon I need all the help I can get! LOL

Here is the author's website for the book I was talking about: http://www.shapeshiftingonline.com/ It is really interesting, and she has some very cool insights.

I know exactly what you mean about unhealthy cheap food. And all that junk just tastes good too because of all the fat and salt, or fat and sugar, in it.

My husband is home on disability now, because of his arthritis, so he cooks supper for us. And it is so funny, but he rarely cooks meat for himself now that he is cooking. He knows I won't eat it, so he just cooks what I will eat. I tell him all the time that I have converted him to vegetarianism! LOL He loves it when we have company and he has someone to share meat with. When he does cook meat, that is all he eats until it is gone. He is such a funny man.

I am trying to be good about using the nutrition tracker. I'm like you, I need it to keep me honest. LOL

I have been mulling over what we could do for a challenge. What if we set up a virtual tour of cool embroidery places? Like the Japanese Embroidery school Kurenai-kai in Japan, the Royal School of Needlework in London, to wherever the Bayeaux Tapestry is, things like that? One minute of exercise = 1 mile travelled, 8 ounces of water = 1 mile travelled, stuff like that, and we could all add our miles together to get from one place to the next as a group. We could take turns picking destinations if we want to, find photos or other information, stuff like that. And we could even get mileage for time spent embroidering. I think we could have fun with this! What do you all think?

Morning Lisa! Good to see you here! I don't usually post this late in the morning---either I'm really early, around 5:00 AM, or else I post sometime after midnight. I keep really odd hours now that I don't work anymore. I drive my older brother crazy as he tries to call me everyday (he's in Washington state) but he never knows my "schedule" (as he calls it). He was a career navy man and so is very regulated (read: anal) and he complains almost everyday about how abnormal I am. LOL. Heck, it's worth being that way just to drive him nuts. emoticon

I remember from before your telling me how much you love animals...plus I can tell from the photos that you do. Love your fur babies!! We have two dogs and a cat. I hope someday you can get a place out in the country so you can have as many critters as you want! I also remember you saying you're a vegetarian. is that hard to do since your hubby likes meat? Or do you do like I do and cook several different type of meals a day? I do that because my DH likes hot, spicy food (well, he IS Mexican...lol) and I don't. My two sons (who are still at home) don't care too much for really hot food either so I sometimes wind up making three types of meals. One low carb/low cal version for me, one hot spicy version for DH, and one comfort-fattening-type version that my sons' like. Sheesh! no wonder I'm fat with all that food floating around! I've tried many, many times to get my sons to eat what I make for low cal/low carb but most of the time they aren't interested. I take full blame for them having such bad eating patterns. I was never consistently vigilant about dieting when they were young and we ate whatever was cheapest and most filling back then when money was more of an issue. Trouble was that cheap and filling usually meant really high carb stuff--not so much on the healthier fruits, veggies and protein. *sigh* ah well, maybe if I can stick to my meal plan this time, and they see some good results, it may inspire them to eat healthier too. both of my sons could stand to lose a few pounds. My daughter too is overweight. I'd love for her to join SP. She keeps talking about it. I do know she feeds her kids way healthier than I did them when they were growing up. I'm grateful for that.

I think I've heard about that hospital diet you're talking about. It's more like a medical fast isn't it? Just liquids and low cal soups, etc. I suppose it would work to take the pounds off fast--but then what happens when you go back to eating more normally? Does the weight triple itself when it comes flying back on? I'd be worried about that part. Still, it's tempting as I know it would sure make the pounds drop quickly, and sometimes that alone is enough to spur you on to keep losing. Nothing succeeds like success!

When I'm eating optimally, I try to watch both the calories and the carbs. I try to stay under 1600 calories a day and I would love my carbs to be around 30 to 50 a day. I can't always meet that goal, but that's what I aim for. Do you use the Nutrition Tracker? I swear by it. It's kept me "honest" many a day. I'm just no good at "eyeballing" food.

The book you're reading sounds interesting. I like those type of books too. I think I'll check it out on Amazon and see if I can get a copy. I love reading diet books as they always fill me with a renewed enthusiasm for losing weight.

I would love to be diet buddies with you! I really do think there is strength in numbers, two heads are better than one sort of thing! Do you have any ideas to keep us fired up? How about mini challenges? I think we did that here earlier. Are you interested in that or does that leave you cold? let me know what type of things you like and maybe we can try them and help each other stay on track.

Any of you Lurkers out there--I'd love for you to do that too! The more the merrier!

many hugs--and have a great day!

Georgia

I love animals, and would totally surround myself with them if I could. I really want some cashmere goats. They are small and so silky. I remember my grandmother had chickens, all kinds. And there are some really weird looking chickens out there! One of the roosters was very vicious. He chased me a lot. LOL But some were very docile and would let you pet and hold them. I would have some pigs, cows, horses, chickens, goats, and rabbits. But no one would be allowed to eat any of my animals, which makes my meat-loving husband roll his eyes. I also don't think any of them stink. We had horses a long time ago, and I would just lay on them and smell them. I don't think my dogs stink either. Weird, I know, my husband tells me all the time.
emoticon

For now I'm going to track my food and stay within SP's recommended calorie range. I am going to concentrate on making better food choices, and cut out the junk. I'm also getting back to exercising. I have threatened myself with a hospital diet program in January if I don't get back on track...you know, one of those extremely low calorie, doctor supervised things. emoticon Several people have been on one in my office, and they are losing a lot of weight. But I've seen the misery they are going through also. What kind of diet program are you following?

I am with you on the starting over thing. I just don't understand why I can't get over this junk food obsession I labor under. So I am reading a couple of different kind of diet books, that will hopefully help me get at the root of my problem with food. The one I'm reading now is called Shape Shifting, and it is about changing the way you see yourself with a metaphysical slant. I like that kind of stuff. emoticon

Maybe if we stick together we can lick this thing! emoticon

I'd probably get some farm animals if I wasn't so darned scared of them. When I was younger I used to visit a friend f mine who kept chickens. I remember them being mean as fire and always trying to attack whoever had the unlucky job of trying to collect the eggs. I grew up in the city and while I love living in the country now---I'm not very adept at it. lol

DH, on the other hand, grew up in a small rural village in Mexico and knows all about living the rugged, back-to-basics, earthy type of life. I would like to go more "green" and every year we do have a pretty big garden--but as far as getting a cow or something, I just don't think it's going to happen. And Goats stink. Or so they say.

So what kind of diet plan do you try to follow? Low carb, low calorie, WW,--or a combination--or something else entirely? I know that any diet will generally work as long as we work it. I regained 9 pounds since March while I was away from SparkPeople. It's so disheartening to start over. Sometimes I just want to kick myself in the butt! I know what to do to lose weight...just have trouble making myself do it.

I'm looking forward to seeing your list of projects--and your photos. It's always so inspiring to see what someone else is working on. I run out of ideas fast.

hugs--

Georgia

Your new farmhouse sounds like it is going to be wonderful! I love living out in the country. I don't right now, but my goal is to get back out in the woods. I would love to have lots of animals - some goats and rabbits for fiber, chickens for eggs, and a cow to pet. My family says I get too attached to have farm animals though. LOL I would love to see pics of your new place!

I will prioritize and make a list of my next few projects. I think it would be good to post them and keep up with our progress. I will also take pictures of my two projects currently in progress. The coaster is just a geometric piece that I am stitching for a friend who is writing a needlepoint book.

And congratulations on losing a pound! I need to get myself back under control. sigh...I am now at my highest weight ever. grrrrrrrrrrrr

I really am happy you are back and posting on Sparkpeople! I missed you! emoticon

Lisa! Oh it's so good to talk to you again. emoticon

I absolutely hated being away from home without access to a PC. I never dreamed we'd be away so long. Yes, I really am glad we've sold the house down there. Traveling back and forth from NC to PA is a long 9 hour trip each way, and it got to be just too dang much for us. We sold that and bought a foreclosure right here near our home. In fact it's only about a quarter mile away from our house. It's a big old 3 bedroom farmhouse with over an acre of land. It also has a garage with an apartment over it. The apartment was liveable--rather nice actually--but the house. OH BROTHER! It needs everything. Or rather needed, as my DH and sons have improved it a lot already. The previous owners practically gutted it. They took every light fixture, all the woodwork, and even the kitchen sink. lol. It needed a new sewer line, all new plumbing, new wiring, and all new flooring. Sheesh. What were we thinking? emoticon

Still, it will be fun to fix it up--and DH loves to do that kind of stuff. He's worked like a demon and it's really shaping up nice. And--we got it really cheap. 4 years ago it sold for $104,000.00 and we got it for $56,000.00. The only thing that really needs done is adding a ground floor bedroom because I just don't do steps anymore. We have that in the works now. We hope to get it ready by Thanksgiving.

I like your idea of going through your projects and organizing them. I have some like that too. Maybe I'll find a lot more of them in the move. Maybe we should both post our list like you suggested and see if we can make any headway on them---maybe we can shame ourselves into it...lol

I'd love to see some pictures of your needlepoint. I remember last year you sent me a link to some of the stuff you were working on. They were all beautiful. Do you still have photos there? If so, I'd love to see them again.

Also your Echoes of Elizabeth needlecase sounds so pretty---I have images of tudor roses and pearls...love to see those too. The coaster you're working on--is it your own design? Tell me about it :)

Ok Lisa, guess I better go get the supper dishes done.

Many hugs to you!

Georgia

Hi Georgia Kay! I'm glad you are back, and that you were able to sell your vacation home. I'll bet it's a relief to have that off your back! emoticon

I just went through and organized all my projects and kits, both those that have been started and those that haven't. LOL I have so many. Sigh. So I picked out several that I want to finish over the next few months, and we shall see how I do. Perhaps I should post my list here and track my progess.

Currently, I'm working on a needlepoint coaster that I am stitching as a model for a friend and an online class called Echoes of Elizabeth, which is a needlecase. emoticon

How about ya'll? Does anyone else have some projects lined up?

Was hoping that now that the weather is cooling down that some of us will be starting winter projects. Anyone have any good ideas?

Wow, it seems like AGES since I've been online here. Sorry folks, that I wasn't able to be here. I was away in another state without internet access since March. I've missed Sp and my friends here. Hope to be able to catch up with you as fast as possible!

Anybody working on any special projects?

hugs---Georgia

Didn't do too much today. Went to the laundromat on Sunday and to Peshtigo on Monday. Wednesday we are probably going to be on the motorcycle most of the day.

I haven't invested in any work out machines. Cool you got a deal at Kmart. I am afraid if I bought a machine I would feel guilty not to use it. I hope you love it. I don't have room for 1 either. Even with this big house. withthe renovations we are moving junk from 1 room to another. I am having a garage sale the 3rd weekend in April. Hopefully I can get rid of some stuff.
I usually use all 6 threads. I love the thickness of the embroidery. It is a great insulator. It seemslike I do such bold designs. May times I will mix 3 strands of 2 different colors.
I hope everyone is well Sherry

I almost purchased my AbCirclePro by calling the number on TV. Glad I didn't. K-Mart had them on sale this past week for less money and no s/h to deal with. Even with the tax added, it was cheaper than online or by the TV infomercial. I put it on layaway cuz I don't get my check until this coming Thursday. Can't wait for Thursday!!!

I am having a lot of computer problems too. I can get on but not all the time. It's very sporadic so when it does manage to connect, I take advantage of it until it stops connecting again.

Can't wait to get the motorcycle out. We're having the tour pack repaired and repainted so even though we have had some 'rideable' days, we weren't able to ride.

Anyone have any thoughts on the advertised Ab Pro Circle?? I'm thinking about buying one.

Hello Friends of Georgia... I got a call from Georgia in NC. She wanted me to come by and let you know her internet connection is not available for a short while. It sounds like she is doing well otherwise and misses everyone. She wants to let you know she's thinking of you and is sorry she isn't here to offer support.
Have a great day!

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you in the next 3 weeks Georgia. That will burn some fat off for sure. You lucky dog!! LOL

I usually work with 2 threads but if I'm doing, for example, the satin stitch, then I'll work with 3 threads. When I am embroidering, I usually do all of one color and then move onto the next color so it wouldn't pay for me to have numerous needles full of the same color.

Good job on the weight loss.

Sherry, I've been reading about your home improvement projects in your blogs and letters, and holy smokes you guys are doing a LOT!! I'll bet your house is going to be beautiful when all is said and done.

We'll be leaving PA for North Carolina tomorrow to go down and work on the house we bought there last summer.

We have a LOT of work to do. The house itself was left in a big mess by the former owner we did manage to clean the mess up and it looks more presentable now, but we have to sand all the floors, plaster the living room walls, paint, fix the gutters, radiator and a host of other projects to do. We'll be there for three weeks. The good news is, I will have internet there too. I'd hate to be offline for three weeks!

I really like the idea of embroidered hot pads. Thanks so much for the idea! Yes, i do prepare threads ahead of time. I have six needles and i always load them all up and have them sticking in my tomato pin-cushion. It makes it so much easier to do! Do you work with 6 thread embroidery floss and do you separate the floss into less threads to use? if so, do you prefer using two threads to a needle or three--or all six? I usually use three, but think two would be finer and prettier. I guess it really does depend on the project though.

hugs----Georgia

P.S. my Biggest Loser Challenge is going along fine. I lost three pounds last week and 2.2 this week. i hope I can keep losing at this rate. I already feel better in so many ways!

Georgia, regarding my frustration. I had a week from hell last week. Refrigerator froze up and we had to put all of our food in coolers out on our little deck upstairs here in our apt. Then it snowed 3.5 inches and we couldn't get the door open to get at the food. Had delivery for a couple of days. LOL We also had to throw out about $75 worth of food which really sucked cuz we had just been to the store the day before and stocked up on meat.

Then my computer was acting up and I needed to get my Avon order submitted for my customers by 11 a.m. last Friday. I just made it. If you don't submit it by the deadline, they charge you $7.00.

Then we thought we had a carbon monoxide leak so we called the fire dept. to come and check it out. Well, they come with the FIRE TRUCK, for cryin' out loud. Our landlords who live downstairs (awesome people) are in AZ for a couple of months. One of the neighbors called them and told them the fire truck was here. So then I get an email wondering what is going on. Nosy neighbors. AARGH. My landlady said that while they are gone, the neighbor is watching the house 24/7. I'm thinking 'oh great, we can't fart over here without the neighbor knowing and calling AZ'.

I needed to get to the laundromat cuz I hadn't done any laundry for over a week because we were dealing with the fridge. So that was 3 solid hours of standing and my back couldn't handle it. Was barely walking for 3 days afterwards.

Other than the above, it's been a fun life!!!

Sherry: I don't prep my thread. I'd never have room to have it all out until I finished a project.

Georgia, congrats on your weight loss. I am not doing well. Gained 3 pounds this week. Am at my highest weight ever in my life right now. Can't fit in any of my clothes anymore, even my 'fat' clothes are tight. AARGH!
