I didn't have alot of time to talk to Holly but she said she was "shaken not stirred "(yes we share the same droll sense of humour) She said as soon as she has more news she will get back to me. I couldn't resist this joke I figured we could all use a little levity .Miracle Dog

A mechanic who worked out of his home had a dog named Mace. Mace had a bad habit of eating all the grass on the mechanic's lawn, so the mechanic had to keep Mace inside. The grass eventually became overgrown.

One day the mechanic was working on a car in the backyard and dropped his wrench, losing it in the tall grass. He couldn't find it for the life of him, so he decided to call it a day.

That night, Mace escaped from the house and ate all the grass in the backyard. The next morning the mechanic went outside and saw his wrench glinting in the sunlight. Realizing what had happened he looked toward the heavens and proclaimed,

"A grazing Mace, how sweet the hound, that saved a wrench for me!

Hello everyone!

Cheri, I sure hope your friend is all right! I understand at least one of the nuclear power plants has leaked some radiation into the air.

Kim, glad to hear the michievous pups were rounded back up. Katie has pulled the stunt on me about getting out the front door. Once out the front without a leash it is fun and games till she gets tired of playing.

Everyone have a good weekend.

Kim that sounds a LOT more like it . I thought an 8 ft shift on the axis was a little much.I even mentioned that to DH .

My eating plan calls for 8 ounces of protein daily and the bean soup is counted as one starch and half of a protein so I usually dump in a couple ounces of tuna in a serving to make up a whole protein . I was surprised the first time I did it was actually GOOD !

Hmmm... I heard it was Japan itself that moved 8 feet to the east and the axis of the earth changed a minimal amount. Isn't it amazing what an earthquake can do to the planet itself, but it sure can devastate countries and lives.

I would love to get my body back in alignment. I think I would feel a lot better if I did. I just feel my overall body is just out of balance. I read a book called, Suicide by Sugar, and it tells what sugar does to a body. I know I eat alot of it and should cut back. I think that is why I feel the way I do.

Bean soup does sound good. I was checking out recipes online at tunathewonderfish.com. Some of them sound pretty good. I can eat tuna and that is only because I've eaten with mayo, celery, onion, etc. I am not a big fish eater, but need to try something new that is healthy. Two of the recipes were Tuna and White Bean Salad and a Mediterranean Salad, both sounded good!

Wow that damage is extensive in Japan ! I saw on the news theearth tilted another 8 feet on it's axis because of the quake . Who knows what we'll get for weather this year .
I hope you can make soem contact with your friend in the extreme chaos Cheri .

Kelly how nice to get a break from work .I'm sure you are ready for one and I hope the weather is much nicer when your friend comes to visit .

My laser and acupuncture treatments have gone better than I expected but I haven't done much in the way of exercise to really test it out .Now I have a huge muscle knot in my shoulder most likely from being back in alignment .Makes it hard to turn my head and dangerous to drive .Looks like I'll be cooped up here for most of the weekend emoticon
I'll likely make a pot of bean soup as I haven't stuck to healthy eating the last couple of days .I know for me all that fiber makes the numbers on the scale drop !!LOL!

Hope she is ok!
I live in Ohio and don't get earthquakes too often here and if we do they aren't that strong. I've only felt one once that was centered in Indiana. It woke me up. My bed was shaking and the picture on the wall was knocking against the wall. It only lasted a few seconds. At first I didn't realize what it was....thinking maybe I had a spirit in my room shaking my bed... LOL!!

We are pretty much separated except for the phone. That is all we have at this point. I know he is going to be heading for training starting on Monday which will last a couple of weeks. Then he will be off on a fishing boat for days at a time. The longest we haven't spoken to each other was about 1 1/2 months.

Murphy and Sophie were bad puppies today. They got out of the yard. I opened my gate to shovel some snow and zoom, they were off! I got Sophie in the next yard and back in mine, but Murphy was across the street, then down about 5 houses. He turned around when I saw my neighbor driving down the road. He knew what I was up to when he saw me wave him down to slow him down. Finally, Murphy went straight to the gate and waited for me to open it up further to get him in. Stinkers!!

hello everyone! No rest fpr for the wicked. I must be very wicked.lol I have spent most of the day with the kids again. They should be moved in to there new apartment at least half by now. My niece asked if she could use my kitchen to fix dinner and of course I said yes. I told Ray that tomorrow I get to sleep in.

Cheri, sorry to hear you over did i yesterday. Take care of yourself hopefully it will straighten out soon.

Kelley, I have never used a chiro. I am probably the only person in my family who never has seen one.

Kim, I wish things were going better between you and the ex bf. Maybe it is time to consider cutting off communications with him. If the two of you decided to call it quits for maybe 6 months to a year. If there is really something there on both sides it will with stand the seperation.

HUGS

I talked to the ex last night....not really sure what to call him at this point... I guess "friend". I told him that I hadn't heard from his brother yet about putting in the light. His comment was, "he runs away from work because he doesn't want to work". I really had to agree with him. I think he is lazy. He'd rather play than work, but wouldn't we all!! He told me he has applied for 100 jobs, but he hasn't taken any because they pay less than what he made over a year ago. Uh....well, I think you need to take what you can get. It is hard, but you have to learn to live within your means....like quit buying the toys!!! I took a big pay cut right after buying my house and that has been nearly 8 yrs ago and I am still adjusting because everything keeps going up in price.

Anyway, my friend did saying he got going on a project and didn't want to stop to call. I can understand that, but I really needed to get some things off my chest. I had it all worked up in my mind as to what I wanted to say to him the other night and last night I didn't say everything. I told him pretty much one thing I did want to tell him as to where I stand or what I want, which he pretty much already knew. I felt a little better. He just kept telling to relax. We are taking this slow. Don't have a choice in that, but maybe it is a good thing. All we can do is see what will happen.

Can you believe the earthquake that hit Japan and then the sunami! Just awful. The sunami is headed to our west coast and my friend will be heading to Newport for his training for the new job. I think by the time it reaches the US coast it will be a lot smaller, but they were saying it may be bigger waves the more north you go (from SoCal).

I heard the weatherman say it is suppose to snow tonight, possibly 1-3 inches. Are you kidding me!!!

Still waiting to hear from my friend to see when he can install my new light fixture in my living room. I left him a message yesterday, he can't be that busy...he isn't working. Also waiting for his brother, my ex-bf, to call me. We need to talk about things and he agreed, but I know he is busy getting packed up to move and to start his training for his new job. Otherwise, I don't know when we will have time to talk after he goes.

Kelley, fire your forecasters if they call snowing and blowing NICE.lol

Cheri, Kim, and Jeanne hope all of you had a good day.

Had a long day dealing with 5 kids, two of which were a 4yr old and a 2yr old. I was watching my nieces kids today plus my neighbors son. My husband thought I was insane before the day was over I could almost agree with him.

I get acupuncture and I love it but the doctors have forbidden me going anywhere near a chiro ,they say I would be one of the cases that came out dead because of my spinal injuries and they really don't know why I am not paralyzed.I don't like those odds so I am obeying !

Puh leese Kelly keep your snow and blowing snow !We are having a beautiful day here today.Idon't get to spend much time outside since I had my accupuncture treatment and have to take it easy for a few days .What an educational experience that was !
The first thing the doctor asked was how my lungs were . What?!... Lungs?!.. I went for my back !
I told her I was just getting over a cold and she told me she could feel crap circulating through my organs . Gross !Then she took my pulse on my left side the bad side and told me I didn't have much circulation going through on that side.Heck I knew that ! After my treatment she massaged the sacroiliac area and discovered a lot of scar tissue which she believes is the reason my back won't stay in alignment. So tomorrow I get a laser treatment to break the tissue down. She tells me all this will make me feel much better and last longer in alignment than the Chiro treatments. I hope she's right .
I must say I'm feeling pretty good at the moment .

It has been raining here all day. With all the snow melt, thaw and rain, I have water in my basement. ....just a small river going to the sump pump.

I got a book out the library that I thought sounded interesting. It is called Cleopatra and it is about her life....different that what other people had written about her. I've never read anything about her and the review I heard sounded like it would be good, I got it the other day and have only read about 30 pages. I really think I need a dictionary and an interpreter to understand the book. I can't get through as I feel like everything is running together. I think I will just take it back to the library and stick with fun books!! Oh well!!

I'm glad that we don't have to deal with coyotes like that! How frustrating to lose a calf like that.

Mother Nature is quite obviously still upset with us Albertans. The forecasters had been saying it was supposed to get nice, but today it's snowing and blowing. UGH!

It sounds like either they have abundance of food to keep the numbers up. Food supply is lacking and that is why they are going after domestic animals. Coyotes are a nusiance. I have never heard of them hunting in packs mainly 2 or 3 at the most here in Oklahoma, an a lot of loners.

The bounty was for the whole province but there are pockets where the problem is much worse than others. We are in the southwest where they are out of control. I don't think it's as much of a problem in the north.

A friend of mine told me last summer they had the Gov't trappers out to set snares around her property and she has a guardian dog with the sheep at all times even her own presence wasn't enough to stop a pack of coyotes from taking lambs.Once they get away with it they are almost impossible to deter .

A couple of years ago we had a heifer( a first time mom )in the corral as we thought she may have twins and trouble calving . Dh checked the nite before and all was well .At that time the aussie dog stayed outside during the night. We did hear him barking early in the morning .Dh checked on the cow and said she had calved but there was no calf to be seen . I tracked a small blood trail under the corral gate to the cattle shed where the snow was packed down and all of the calf I could find were bone chips as big as my baby fingernail .

Last year the Gov't came up with a compensation program for producers .The only problem is you have to show them a carcass. When a pack is involved there is no calf or lamb carcass left.

Is that just your region of Saskatchewan, or are they a problem all over the province? I hadn't heard this before - and I can imagine what kind of havoc they can wreak. Coyotes can be VERY vicious. Not a fun issue to deal with.

Yes Debbie GP are very popular around here with sheep owners unfortunately the coyotes are so overpopulated the dogs can't cover enough ground fast enough to keep them out of the pastures .I mean you have no idea how thick they are. Last year our province had a bounty of $20 dollars per head. 8,000 coyotes were turned in within in 6 months and still they are overpopulated. We keep waiting for a coyote disease to go through them and thin them out but it's not happening . Usually mange thins them out yet they seem to be adapting to that too.

Abby, have you ever heard of the Great Pyrenese dog. They are the coyotes worst nightmare. Here in Oklahoma they are used for guarding sheep and goats from coyotes and wolves. They have a natural instinct for it. They are a true working dog. I have a friend who has the milk goats and when he bought his small herd. He got a 6 month GP along with them. He didn't train the dog he was told to put the dog in the same pen with the goats, The dog doesn't let anyone but the owner and workers on his place mess with those goats.

Kim, we can find coyotes all over Oklahoma even in the big city. We have some large parks that are wooded that have deer and other wild life in it like coyotes. I have a friend who lives on a quarter section of land. She has had coyotes, bob cats, wild boar, quail, turkeys, and roadrunners on her property. She doesn't allow hunting on her property and when hunting season comes around they seem to migrate to her place. She did have to have the boar hunted down an shot it was being more than a nuisance. It was dangerous kept showing up in her front yard. There was even puma tracks found about 2 miles south of her quarter section at the river.

I haven't heard from the kids today so I am assuming they got the apt today.

I am tired I worked out on the treadmill for 45 minutes today. I was recharging my wii board. So I went down to the apt complex gym and used the treadmill. At least I am getting better on the treadmill.

Catch you all tomorrow!

Debbie

Abby, I certainly can understand them hunting down calves. I don't think we have much cattle around here. According to the lecture, they mostly eat voles, mice, fruit, some deer which is usually road kill. It was still interesting to listen to. She played some of their calls. I haven't seen one in year and it wasn't around here, it was out west somewhere. Also I guess they can be hunted year round, not that I would be doing that.

I could be icing my tailbone, but I think it would be awkward at work LOL It's very slowly starting to feel better . . . still sore, but not as sore as it was early last week. Hopefully by Friday I feel more human and able to roller skate.

I had a very low key weekend because sitting is so uncomfortable still. I did as much relaxing as possible. It was kind of nice to NOT be swamped for a change, although there's plenty I could have done, had I had the motivation.

Cheri, how is True doing? I was thinking of her this morning, since it was so bloody cold AGAIN. Farley wasn't happy about the weather at all. Neither was I.

Check out my SparkPage - I'll be adding new pictures today!

We are nice and sunshiney today but it's cold AGAIN !There weather man is danging the carrot of temps above freezing for midweek .Sure hope he is right .
I'm going to the track for my walk today and then I'm checking out accupunture to see if it will help my back pain . Even a week or two pain free would be welcome .Jeepers getting older really sucks !!

Kim I wish I could hear that lecture. Around here the word coyote does not conjure up warm cuddly feelings . There are overpopulated and harrass the cattle and sheep producers to no end . We can sit on the deck and see big packs coming down the fields looking for a weak or newborn calf to prey on . We've had momma cows break legs on their newborn calves from stepping on them while trying to protect them from a packof coyotes. Needless to say a gun is never far from DH's hand in calving season .

The rain turned to snow last evening. They said we would get about an inch. Try about 3 inches!! It is a light fluffy snow, but it is wet. Ice underneath it too since it didn't stop raining when it started snowing. I can't believe we got more!!

Today I am hoping to go to the park for a lecture on Coyotes. I talked my mom and sisters into going as "having somthing to do on Sunday afternoon".

Murphy's tummy isn't feeling good today, but otherwise he seems ok.

Cheri, glad to hear True is doing better.

Kelly, if it was anything but your tailbone. I would tell you to try alternating ice and hot packs. Ice packs really only work if it is swollen.

Sorry I have been missing the day or two. I have had my adopted niece, her hubby and 3 kids show up a little unexperctedly on my front door step on Wednesday. I knew they were moving back this week. The apt they arranged for fell through because it wasn't ready yet. Everything should be back to normal by Monday.

Doesn't sound like a fun job to me either!!

It has been raining all day, but I we aren't getting the heavy rains they expected. That is good for us, because the several counties to the south of me have already had floods. Even the one town made the national news the other day because of the flooding. I feel bad for these people as they have had about 4 major floods in the last couple of years.

Sophie is sitting out on the deck under some cover, but she still is getting wet. She doesn't care, she rather be outside. Murphy is staying in with me and staying warm.

I went shopping for a new light fixture to put in my living room before they work on the ceiling. I have found a couple I like, but they range anywhere between $50 and $150. A couple are on the Tiffany style glass shades. The cheapest isn't like that, but it is more Victorian in style and would go well in my house. I may go with that just for the cost. I called my friend who is a licensed electrician to see if he could come and do the work for me. That will depend on what needs to be done. He has a bum knee and isn't sure if he would be able to get up and down on a ladder much. I have to call him back tomorrow so he can come over.

I went to a light fixture store and the ones they had were over $200!! Ouch!! I did find a really cheap fixture there in the clearance room that I think would go in my bathroom, but I need to measure. It was only $30. It was also a brass finish, which is out of date, but that is what is in my bathroom now.

Nothing like looking at things I can't really afford right now, but need to get them done! I want to paint my bedroom and bath too!

A little nicer day here still cool though.I may have to put my coveralls on and walk Raven .She seems to be going through the terrible 2's chewing anything she can sink those teeth into .Clothes toys toilet paper you name it it's in her mouth!! I 'm thinking she is a bit bored.

Okay I just let her out and I've changed my mind about the walk. Too breezy to be out in the open .

Got my call to go back to the garden center in late March so I have some major cooking and cleaning to do starting with the oven .UGHHH! that's a two day job by the time I soak the racks and spray the oven.I guess that's what I get for not buying a self cleaning one. I just know too many people who've had problems with them not opening after the cleaning cycle .
I best get at it or I'll be putting it off for another day !

Happy belated b-days to Murphy and Misty! We celebrate b-days for pups around here as well! For the pups first b-day they got party hats (promptly chewed) cake, and steak! Or beef ribs. They love the bones! Have I mentioned that for about 1 year my dogs ate healthier than I did?

Glad everyone on here is crazy about pups too (in a good way!) They are such joys to own!

The power to change, the courage to do, the will and drive to be exceptional lies within me, and by leaving my fears, my doubts, and my excuses behind, I embrace all that lies within me.

Happy birthday Misty!

Cheri, I'm not laughing . . . my tailbone is still pretty sore today, which means it's going to be a LONG day at work. Yuck! But I'm looking forward to this weekend - just taking it easy and not doing too much that requires sitting. I want to watch a movie or two, some dogs need grooming, and I have a list of computer things that need doing.

Wishing everybody a happy weekend!

LOL, today is our Misty's 11th birthday - I didn't think many people remembered the actual birth day of their pets, or maybe they don't often know. Anyway, I feel among friends!

One time, when our kids were little, we had a neighborhood birthday party for all the neighborhood dogs. It was great fun - the dogs weren't quite sure what all the fuss was about, but the kids had a great time!

Happy Birthday Murphy !How can ANYONE not spoil those litle faces .I'm trying so hard not to give Raven little bites of this or that but retraining me is soo tough !

Oooh Kelly that sounds nasty and a tail bone bruise or fracture can take months or more to feel better . Unfortunately there's not much a person can do for it except ice it.

Happy birthday Murphy! It sounsd like you had a great day! And Kim, spoiled? My mom makes my dogs special cakes, cookies and meals for their birthdays. Just a wee bit over the top, I'd say! But they deserve it.

So my tailbone is still really sore . . . I checked the area this morning after getting out of the shower and it's VERY bruised. Dark blue and purple. I guess close to 200 pounds landing on that one area isn't a good thing. It felt better this morning, after a good night's sleep (and no pressure on it), but it's sure again already. Sheesh!

Hello everyone! Running very late tonight. I have had unexpected visitors this afternoon. My adopted niece, her husband and 3 kids showed up on my doorstep. We knew they were headed for the City. They are moving from Indiana back to Oklahoma. Unfortunately their apt won't be ready untill Friday. Since we don't have room for 5 more people. They are down the street in a Motel 6 for two nights.

Those rice packs sound good. I wonder if my cold natured kitty would sleep on one. She crawls underneath the covers when she gets cold. At 14 yrs old the cold gets to her pretty easily.

Happy Birthday Murphy! True is home from the vet she has had a fortune worth of bloodwork done. She goes back next Wednesday ,the vet says she looks to be in excellent shape for her age. They just want to check and make sure her liver function is good before they put her on metacam .She was busy charming people and dogs today and her only problem is her arthritis so they sent me home with some steroids till next Wednesdday and some liquid glucosamine as well as her food.I warm up her bed with a lavender hotpack but thanks for the thought Barb ! I am so glad she seems to be fine and it is just the arthritis but hopefully it can be managed.

I thought about the orthopedic beds for dogs. Has anyone tried those?

By the way, today is Murphy's birthday. He turned 9. He got Happy Birthday sung to him. He got a plain hamburger from McDonalds - so did Sophie and I had a coupon for a Pepperidge Farm 3 layer cake - I really got this for myself, but shared just a bite of vanilla cake with the dogs. it even had confetti sprinkles on it for decoration.

Silly isn't....they are soooo spoiled!!!

I quilt, so I always use 100% cotton - easy to wash if need be. And I use regular grain rice. Holds the heat for about 20-30 minutes!

That's a great idea about using a rice pack to warm up the dog beds! I have one of those Wheat bags that used to be so popular . . . maybe I can use that to keep my Old Dog's bed warm. I'm sure he'd appreciate that.

In those rice bags you make, what kind of fabric do you use? Something fairly durable, I'd think. Maybe a poly-cotton? And just normal rice? My mom sews, she could whip some of those up in NO time.
