The only place to get the real true skinny on licensure to teach is the Department of Education Web site in your state. It varies from state to state and even a lot of colleges and universities will accidentally misinform you. What a college or university requires for a degree is not always the same thing the State requires for teaching certifications. Go to the horse...is my advice. Old Teacher.

I graduated undergrad in May of this year. I am getting an M.A. in English Literature because I want to have the option to teach college, high school, and get a PhD (which you can't with an M.S. or at least not get a PhD in literature).
I graduate from my M.A. in May 2014 but then I have a year of licensure and student teaching before we move to Arizona! I want to teach upper level high school and/or community college English Literature. When we have kids in five or so years I want to take time off work to be a mom and also to get my PhD to teach university and get a cushy tenure job!

I will graduate in December of this year. I will actually be finished with school in October but I won't officially graduate until December of 2012.

I just finished the certification class through ACT San Antonio. I'm on a probationary license until I teach for a year. So many interviews. . . No call backs.

Hopefully, I'll graduate in Spring 2014. I want to get a dual license in ENL; I need to take night classes while I student teach, though, in order to graduate on time.

May 2012 and it can't come soon enough. I can see the light.

A teacher told me this semester "Sometimes, you walk out of the tunnel after seeing the light of graduation and you walk into a beautiful green pasture, most of the time, however, you walk out into the middle of a raging hurricane." An inspiring message that all of us can take to heart.
